Paw is very handsome, @flivine - congrats on his arrival! Will you do his face-up yourself or send him out? Can't wait to see his finished look. I'm off to look at your box opening.

Souldoll didn't plan the two sizes very well, did they? You'd expect the guys to be taller than the girls, even when the girls are wearing heels.

They'll have to make boy heels now to make up for it-- I thought my Vito girl was small when I got her, now she's pretty tall haha.

I have never noticed how muscular are the tighs.

 

I went for Sandy brown with default make up for the Wolf head, but looking at the human head I'm wishing I had got that done too

I had paid my paw since a month ago,hoping he will be shipped this early april. but souldoll just replied 'hopefully to be shipped on the end month' not sure this month or next month *sob*, and I really expecting they shipped on early april for my combine order soulkids replacement hand ;_; since his birthday is this early April and he need his hand for me to take pic.
*sigh* I guess they have so many order now

 

Okay long shot but I don't suppose anyone happens to have an image of Cior without makeup or simply a side on profile of him? I can't seem to find any clear images of what the heck his nose actually looks like.
I've asked Souldoll themselves if they have any blank head pics. It's annoying that some of their dolls don't have those blank photos, like come on guys, get on that!

I recently bought an Azreal skull head from a DoA member and am anxiously awaiting CANPost to deliver it to me. It'll be a while before I can afford his body *sigh*, but I'm really glad I had the chance to purchase him. I plan on buying Eilam (Vito Rail) later this year as I've been waiting to buy him for 5 years (I needed his partner first) so yeah, he comes home first.

I do have a question/request though. I bought the Phiel gold Souloid and use the free head (Titika) I got instead of the Phiel head for my boy. The Phiel head is nice but currently sitting in bubble wrap in a box waiting for me to figure out who he is. With my incoming Azreal skull head (he's Ra-Sui, God of Decay & Guardian of Souls), the Phiel head on the Kid body could be his partner if he looks good proportion/height-wise next to Ra-Sui. Would somebody here be able to snap a pic of a Vito standing next to a Kid boy so I could have a better idea of how they'd look together?

One of my other vague possibilities, and I can't believe I'm even contemplating this as the DC aesthetic is NOT my thing, is the DC kid body K-12-1 (the boy body with wings). If anyone has one of those (or the K-12 body) and a Vito, I will be forever grateful to have a pic of them standing next to each other to see what they look like.

I have stood my ID51 next to my Souloid and they look good together, but my ID51 is 51cm and my Souloid is 49cm so the heights are a tad off to what a Vito/Kid would be (according to the measurements on the SD site) and I'm also not sure how the Vito and ID51 compare with regards to shoulder/chest width (I was surprised at how beefy the ID51 is) and if a Vito would look odd as a pairing to a Kid.

 

@Iron_Dog - Don't know if this will help, but I have a height comparison photo of Vito, Kid, and ID51.

@vermont chick : Thank you. I assume the ID51 is the middle dude? Are they in bare feet or are shoes lending a little extra height to anyone? I like the way the ID51 and the Kid look together but the height difference might be too much for my purposes between the Vito and Kid *frowns*. Hmmm, this will require some thought.

Fortunately, it's likely quite a bit away before I could get the pairing completed (unless I stumble upon a money tree), but I like to have things settled in my head, y'know. I also can't write anything of the pairing until I get their resin selves squared away *grumbles*.

 

@vermont chick - wow, the Soom Idealian is 51cm and Vito 52, but they look so different in height. the shoulder height is really far apart.
I had both and thought they were close in size. sold my Vito. Soom guy looks nice in height and proportion to the Kid.

Yes, the Idealian is the one in the middle. They are all wearing shoes, so no one is getting much extra height that way. See my comment to @petiteballerine below.

The Idealian should look a little taller. He's so tightly strung that I can't make him stand straight. You can't tell from the photo but his body curves a bit when he stands. I'm hoping he'll eventually loosen up by himself, because my hands aren't strong enough to restring him. I did measure both ID51 and Vito with both of them in shoes and wigs. ID51 is just about 52cm and Vito is nearly 55cm. Can't measure the Kid, unfortunately, because I sold him.

 

Thanks again. It's been my experience that when a company tells you the height of a doll, they usually over estimate it a little. Huh. Who knew they under estimated the height of these guys. I that's the case, perhaps the height SD lists for their new Kid body is slightly taller and he wouldn't look... off next to the Vito? This bears investigation...

 

company measurements are so unreliable. I remember a lot of us waaaay back measuring our Hounds and other Dollshe boys. none were 70cm. they were 68 or 69.
the only way to tell if dolls look right together is put them together. sometimes height doesn't matter at all, just like with people.
I thought Vito would go well with my doug james Saylor resin CED girl, but they were close in height, just not the right 'look."
she was on her stand when I put Soom guy next to her. she fell off her stand, literally into his arms and they've been together ever since.

 

I take company measurements with a grain of salt. WithDoll, for instance, gives the same head measurement for all its tinies but there are two distinct head sizes, unmistakable when you look at them. Dollmore's Zaoll waist measurement is way off. And that's just two examples.

 

I get annoyed when companies don't provide basic measurements of their dolls on their site. I'd be fine if it wasn't listed on every doll page as long as there was an easy to find page that listed all the measurements. Eye size bugs me a lot. Quite often they'll list one eye size for all sculpts in a particular size yet some have either very large or small eyes and they are not a one-size-fits-all situation.

I'm confident about the pairing of Rhas-Khan (ID51) with Eilam (Vito Rail) as I think they look good together. Ra-Sui (Vito Azreal skull) and his partner... that's going to be a bit of a challenge since the Vito size (or something close to it) for boys isn't terribly common with other companies. Fortunately, I'm not set on a particular sculpt yet so I have more leeway in options and realistically loads of time to find him. I'm just worried about getting attacked by a story idea and then having to shoe-horn something in to work. Another Vito to be Ra-Sui's partner is an option as well, but none of the sculpts are speaking to me for him.

Terry has the perfect nose, like... oh my... but i'm not convinced the rest of his face is "just right" for my oc. But goodness he's pretty.
I kinda like how all the boys look related, that's a cool touch and the girls, there's some really lovely girls. More vito girls are always welcome. I kinda... am sad they're limited, it feels like a waste of great head sculpts you know?

Oh Iron, I know what you mean about measurments. I'm shelling ocs and because of the size difference between the soulkid and vitos i'm working at a very unusual scale. it's about 1:3.5 but the only reason i'm doing this is because Soulkid Joelle and his sulkiness is perfect for my OC Kay, and Lester is perfect for his brother and the height difference in that strange half way scale is PERFECT. So this means i'm left with the difficulty of finding the perfect sculpt for the twins, and a body that's 54cm tall *headdesk*
I'm either gonna have to get a 52 body and give them shoe lifts, or do a little modding. I don't want to use a vito body though because they're supposed to be scrawny as heck alongside their much more well toned youngest brother (the Lester). So arghhh.
Right now i'm still looking for a head. He needs almond shaped eyes, preferably angled and slightly "catlike" in shape, a hooked, hawk-like nose and a slight overbite.
This seems to be a bit of a tall order at Vito scale. *sigh*
Which is why I stalk the vito heads hahaha.

 

Shelling OC's is the story of my dolling life. It's actually a personal rule of mine. Any doll that comes home, must be an already existing character. Buying the pretty because he's pretty is a no-no because I think I'd be buried in a mountain of dolls. Not like I don't already have a mountain of dolls so I'm not sure how well that rule is actually working for me....

Technically speaking, Rhas-Khan and Eilam don't "fit" with the other Divine Worship boys as far as height goes. I have stated in-story that Rhas-Khan is short compared to his brothers and Eilam is also short compared to the other husbands, but I also don't do photostories will all of them together as a group. Another pairing is even smaller than Rhas-Khan/Eilam being MSD boys but for me, it's more about the sculpt being right in features than the doll being the right height to blend in with others in the story line. Sometimes it works out that way but not always. My Divine Worship boys are 68cm (3 of them), 62cm (3 of them), 51cm (1 guy), 52 cm (2 of them), 44cm (1 guy), 40cm (1 guy) and 30cm (5 of them). And within that bunch, one of the pairings are two 68cm and a 30cm.

I'm still not sure about body yet for the new guy's (Ra-Sui) partner. It bugs me to have a head sitting unused and forgotten in a box but I'm not sure that the SD Kid body that would go with it is right for the character. The height difference is a bit more than I want for them, but I don't think it's a deal breaker. Then again, it'll be a while before I can get to the point of buying this other doll and companies are always coming out with new sculpts so it is possible that they'll offer something in the future that screams and waves his arms that here he is.

I really love the Vito size for boys and I wish there were more dolls produced like them. It's like a perfect middle ground between the smaller (and often less mature) MSD's and the bigger, often dead weight of the SD's (they are deadly for your arms to carry around for any length of time).

Souldoll does it again I was on their site last night looking at Paw and was relieved to see there were no new dolls out. I don't know what made me go back but there they were . Absolutely MUST have Terry. I'm a sucker for those lips! I ended up passing on the last vito head due to lack of funds, so I was relieved to see the order period goes through June 30. And I'm going for the kid head because he's similar looking enough to be my Paw's younger brother. I wasn't able to pay Paw off early as planned so one more payment to go. I can't wait to get my hands on him!

 

My Paws are in the nyc!! I haven't been checking the site because I thought I had another month, but I just got a shipping notice for a different doll I ordered a month after Paw, so checked this morning and they've already been shipped and cleared customs! Soon!!!

 

Well, *curse words*. There goes "no more heads!!" right out the window. I swear Souldoll heard the money about to hit my bank account. DX So, yeah...Terry's going to happen.

I have a no random heads rule, but maaaan, if they release one that's "perfect" and limited i'm gonna have to scrape funds to buy two to hide away.
Sadly Souldoll don't do a tan enough tan, so i'll have to dye them arghhh. Stressful. (How tan is their sandy? It looks pretty white person stood in the sun for a bit on my monitor and I need it a touch more coffee coloured. Less whitey white person, more actually dark skinned. Curse me and all my non white characters! *shakes fist* They make life difficult!)

But that helps in a way because it'll make hybriding better. Heh.

I love the vito scale because i'm a big msd fan, but mature msd and I like height variation. And I personally find the height difference between a vito and a kid or other msd to be more realistic when you're working with more mature msds. 46cm to 60cm is HUGE, and while that's about right if you've got say, a 12 yr old and an adult, if you're working with say a Iplehouse or a Soulkid or any of those who look more like 15+ then being like chest height just isn't right (my 10 year old is already taller than that on me! and we're BOTH short lol). So you need a shorter "adult" and 52 looks to be about right to me. a 47cm msd will stand about shoulder height to a 52cm.

In terms of accurate scale, if you assume a 1/3 60cm doll is about 6 foot, that means a standard MSD who's a kid alongside them is only 4'7! That's TINY! If you imagine a doll that looks about 15-16 standing alongside an SD doll, well a 16 year old is NOT under 5 foot tall usually. So the scale is totally off. An average 15 year old boy is apparently about 5'6-5'7" tall. That would equate to 56-57cm tall alongside a 60cm tall doll if you're working at 1/3 scale.
If you assume the 52cm vito is instead your adult height at 6 foot, then that brings all the heights down. 52 = 6foot and 47 of the kids = about 5'4-5'5 which works a bit better, or at least is more realistic.
Problem is, as msd have become more mature, their heights haven't increased to bring them into scale with the sd. So now mature minis are totally out of scale with the rest. Unless you're wanting super short but grown up looking boys (like halflings/hobbits) they just don't work standing next to sd. Vito and similar short sd/tall msd dolls bridge that gap, allowing for a doll that's either a teen or short adult to sd, or a regular adult to mature msd.
We need more dolls to bridge this gap I feel. Because as more companies meet the demand for mature msd but insist on them STILL looking teenaged, there becomes a need to have adults that are of the same dang scale. And the original convention of yosd = kid, msd = preteen sd= adult always left this gap in the middle for teenagers. Where are the teenager sized dolls? Unless you push "adult" up to the 65-70cm and then those dolls are just insanely massive and too huge for a great many people.

I wish more companies would make some nice 50-58cm dolls. It's a really nice manageable scale. You get the heft of an sd doll without the scary huge weight and massive tension and all that and a large range of msd options to go with em.

 

The sandy brown seems to vary a bit. I have a Sandy Brown Soulkid, and he has mellowed quite a bit (he started out as sunburnt red, poor guy), but he's not as dark as Iple's Real Skin or Volks Sunlight skin. I think Resinsoul/ Bobobie Coffee is darker too, though I don't have that right on hand to compare.

Here it is against Iple's Real Skin...my guy has mellowed a lot, and had a lot more red to his tan originally...

 

I'm not so much about everybody in scale with each other so long as they're in scale with their partner. Anything beyond that is gravy in my books. Which is how I can have Rhas-Khan and Eilam as (ID51/SD Vito), 5'-6"/5'-8" respectively in-story, Fei-Lau/Khale (68cm each) and Sleet (30cm) be 6'-2" and 3'-0" in-story, Saraf/Edenlei (62cm each) be 6'-0" each and Ammiel/Dashiell (40cm/44cm) 5'-10"/6'-0" respectively and not have the... "error" of their respective doll heights bother me. Sure, it would've been nice for it to all work out the way it should for how I wrote them, but it was the sculpts that spoke to me that dictated the look not the height of the doll. Eilam actually flat-out refused to be any other sculpt than the Rail and believe me, I tried to shell him in a taller doll to make my hunt for Rhas-Khan easier.

It would be wonderful for more companies to see the desire among collectors for a larger selection of these shorter SD/taller MSD's boys. In my highly biased opinion, they're a fantastic size and offer a lot of versatility for collectors to have them as either shorter mature adults or typical mid-teens in height.

And while I'm looking for Ra-Sui's partner, my wallet is very grateful that the newest heads on offer don't speak to me. Dodged a bullet to my wallet (again). However, they do say that three times is the charm, so now my wallet is ever so slightly nervous about future sculpts SD may release in the future.

 

Yeah I only DEMAND scale in my little groupings. With my D&D group it's not such a problem as I had no set heights for them lol. But for my "old ocs" group their heights to one another are very important because I will have them interacting in pictures and on the shelf. But it's only 4 of them, unless I decide to go insane and add a few others to the group but then there's the problem of where does it end. Keeping it just to the 4 brothers keeps things simple. Niiice and simple.

I say that... but I still need a 54cm body *headdesk*

I know what you mean about sculpts though. I would have loved to have been able to just say "okay, let's go sd and be done with it" but nooo, I had to find two sculpts that demanded they were the ONLY sculpts two of the brothers could have *headdesk* so that sort of... stuck me. As the last 2 are identical twins it means there's only one sculpt left to find, but theyre the hardest to get at that scale.

 

My Divine Worship guys all started when I won Khale (Leeke Limited Khal vampire fullset) at Doll North several years back.I entered the raffle on a whim and was going to keep him for a bit before selling him on to fund other doll purchases. However, within 3 days I knew his entire backstory. Within a week, I'd found him the discontinued DZ armour claw hands in the MP that he NEEDED to have. Two weeks later, I found his lover Fei-Lau (DZ Edward). I never thought I'd be able to find Sleet (Soom Auber Storm Sprite) but before I got Fei-Lau (DZ wait times were about 7-8 months then), I found Sleet in grey (which he needed to be) on the MP. It all just fell into place. I thought that would be it and they'd just be a one-off pairing but nooooo.

Saw a doll at Doll North 5 years ago that I was instantly smitten (are you sensing a theme?). Within days I knew he was Rhas-Khan, brother to Fei-Lau and God of the Abyss and started my search for Eilam. Found him within a month. Eilam has never wavered that he is the Rail sculpt so I know that's the one for him. I'm really happy that I have Rhas-Khan (he was being the difficult one to shell when the original sculpt fell through) as it means I can finally bring home Eilam. And I'm also excited to have Ra-Sui, even if it's only going to be his head for a while. All together, that'll make 5 SD boys in-house, which ties them with RS for numbers.

I kinda regret not having previous Vito limited head Dick before, but I guess I'm safe from current limited head. My other floating Vito head need body first.

And since Souldoll said they will having Summer event in July, I'm gonna wait for the event instead.

 

SD is having a summer event this July? *groans* My poor wallet. It'll never have the chance to recover at this rate.
