[Adopted] Soom Little Gem Monthly Mini Doll discussion (part 5)

I've written Haylie a message quoting Laetitia, asking why customers on the EU site are getting different answers than those on the regular English language site.

I'm not even sure what a good resolution would be, though. I know I definitely want to be able to get the pink face-up on my grey girl (I wouldn't have ordered her had I known I couldn't!), but obviously LadyBossy is in the exact same situation with the colours reversed. No matter what Soom does, they'll have at least one customer who ordered a doll they thought would be perfect based on information from Soom, who won't be.

Ideally, Soom would do the sensible thing like most companies who offer multiple face-ups, and allow the customer to choose. A 'face-up A (pink) | face-up B (blue)' selection would have solved all these problems, and there's really no reason the face-up artist can't do different face-ups on the same skin tone!

soom will put a color palette from one resin to another. So when I once ordered a faceup based on other resin color to a CW doll, I was like "blech gross" when it arrived to me after I spent $1000+. That one color palette did not transcibe well to the other skintone, and soom should have adjusted it IMO.

 

Call me crazy but half the fun for me is doing face up/blushing after they arrive. Sitting picking out a palette and removing seams lets me picture their character better. Of course getting it done can take a while (can't spray in the winter) and I screwed up a lot when I first started.

 

sharnofshade: I hope you get a reply soon. And if the final answer really is that it's by skin color, then I really hope they'll make an exception for everyone who ordered based on the wrong info

I've also been wondering...I want to buy a Nor/Goss or Goss/Goss in bronze during the FCE, and I know Soom always says that the artists might change the dolls' usual blushing color a bit if it wouldn't fit the new skin color. Reading your post kind of worries me, though. I really don't want a bronze body with that blue Goss blushingO_O
Actually, I was planning on asking them to make it golden, similar to Shale's blushing...but I know they usually don't take requests for these things. Guess I'll ask on the Q&A if it's possible anyway, or if they could at least tell me what color they would make it.

Also, they would be doing me a great favor if "sold out" would finally show up on Lux/Volo's page. I was so proud of myself for resisting, but if they're up any longer I'm afraid I might cave after allT_T

1. I was informed that if you choose violet skin color for the boy and for the girl the face-up and body blusing will be pink only.


2. And for the grey skin color, all face-up and body blushing will be in blue no matter if the doll is boy or girl.


3. For cream white color, only the blue face-up is possible for the boy and only the pink face-up is possible for the girl.



However no matter the color, the make-up drawing will be the same on the picture : the boy has his own makeup drawing and the girl as well.



I am sorry for the confusion I created and I hope you will forgive my mistake ><

Now I truly don't know...so anyone who ordered a purple doll will get lovely pink blushing, anyone who ordered a grey doll gets the blue blushing, and for WS, and only WS, it's decided by gender? I am rather miffed by this--I appreciate that the WS was a last-minute sort of thing, but now I'm sitting here thinking 'I would have liked the chance to choose'. And now, clearly, there's going to be some unhappy somewhere, because even if they now say 'let us know and we'll give you a choice', well, frankly, it's going to be months, and someone will get something wrong along the way.

I think I'll wait and see what responses people get this time and then I'll ask again. I'm not holding my breath, but on the other hand, they have some time to figure out what they're going to do as well. I think they'll be a lot more clear on some things in the future.

I'm not so sure they'll learn from this, actually. I mean, it seems to me like they thought they had made the whole blushing thing perfectly clear, with the "grey skin blushing" and "light violet skin blushing" pics. I wonder why didn't do it the same way they did with Koori/Yuki, though. For them, there was a note at the bottom of the page that clearly stated that the blushing is based on color, not gender.
Anyway, I'm curious to see how this turns out. They should give everyone who bought a doll based on wrong info the face-up/blushing they want, IMO, but I somehow doubt they will. I also really don't get why the CW dolls get the gender-based blushing and why it's not possible to at least give us a choice for the other skin colors.

BTW...I think they forgot the ordering period is already over...? Am I supposed to take this as a sign...?

LOL! Tell me about it, originally I'd been enormously tempted by a violet version of Lux originally, but WS suited my plans more precisely. I'm going to ECCC, I'm going to ECCC...

But it is baffling to me. I would just love them to post up the final decision--I also think it's sort of mildly unfair that it's resin-based color for grey and purple, and then gender-based for the WS--and then I'll do a follow-up ping. Categorically, ordering another doll is madness, but I can only imagine the temptiness! I have honestly in the past ordered dolls from them that were left on-sale past the 'end date' and never regretted it! But in this case, I think not knowing what you might be ordering is a serious issue.

I have so many Soomlings already, if I don't start being more selective about ordering, I'll end up drowning in them someday^^" And I do love those gargoyle bodies, but I can't buy every doll I love, unfortunately. I'm really looking forward to owner pics of these guys, though^_^
I hope they'll release some info on the FCE soon. Not really expecting anything to be different from their usual FCE pattern, but maybe they'll surprise us somehow and include more sculpts/colors or something. Actually, I wonder if they'll ever do an FCE with OE heads.

 

Sadly, I am drowning in Soom dolls. I keep thinking 'this is it' and it actually never is...ah, so awful. I'm afraid to both actually count, and to look at my order history.

I'm going to be so interested in the FCE as well, it gives a person so much to think about! But if I don't start being good soon, it'll be quite bad.

I know, right? I keep telling myself that "this'll be the last doll I buy this year" or something, but then Soom goes and releases something amazing and I just can't resist^^" I'm really excited for the FCE and will definitely be getting a bronze Nor/Goss.
Also, I'm hoping for them to someday re-release some of the dolls I missed out on the first time, like Trond/Kivi or Afi/Ai. I was so happy when they re-released Aloa and Sov. And I'm also hoping for more LG centaurs...8D

I'm getting really antsy about the FC event now... I check the Soom website daily now and I really can't wait until we know the actual date. I hope it is at the end of April rather than in the beginning, would give me much more breathing room finance-wise. I can't wait! Anyone have some North/Iceland or Marl/Borol spam for my nerves?

 

I can't wait either^^ Also, I'm still hoping they surprise us with more sculpts or colors than usual being available or something. And maybe there'll be new BC outfits available?8D
If the weather is good, I can take some pics of my Borols tomorrow, or maybe Saturday Borol is one of my favorite sculpts. I was so happy when I got him during the Post MD event^_^

I would also appreciate some more Goss/Thera and Nor/Dune spam
And for owners of Nor's romantic head: do 14mm eyes fit him? I just bought two pairs of Doll Bakery eyes (SO happy I finally managed to be fast enough; it's crazy how fast they sell outOo), and the 14mm one's color would be perfect for Nor. Though I fear they might turn out to be too high dome for romantic heads...:/

I'm super curious about the sculpts and dates. Man if they offered more fantasy colors that would be awesome!! I've recently become aware that I only like fantasy skinned dolls- I put CW in that category cuz no one is that white and so I've accrued a lot of white skin dolls. I need more variety! It'd be great if they released green or something-- anything!
Does soom ever offer fantasy colors in the fces?

 

The last two Super Gem FCE they've offered Grey (in addition to the usual CW, NS, and Bronze) but only after a couple days of people begging for it. They've never offered Tawny, Brown Tan, or any of the other fantasy colors in any FCE, to my knowledge. I own both a grey Breccia and a grey Benmore thanks to those FCEs though

I've been lurking, but every time I see an update to the thread, I have to hurry over to make sure it's not someone saying the FCE has started! Looks like I'm in the same boat as a lot of others, hoping they wait a little while, until finances improve. If they don't hit us too quickly, I'd love to snag a new CW Lig/Nodia so I could use the head for my Light Centaur body, and maybe a grey Thera. I'm so glad they started adding grey to the latest events, even if it is a bit pricey. I'd also love if they started offering more colour options, but I can see how that might get a bit chaotic for them.

 

I have to second the request of Goss/Thera spam.

I may have the chance to get one second hand with all his fantasy parts and would love to make him my colourful sheepy, the leader of my TG XD But there is the typical problem: I absolutely need this doll (well, in fact I do not) and can not afford it.

Yes, they seem to be very reluctant to offer more than the usual NS, CW and Bronze. They sometimes offer Grey if enough people ask for it, but they decided not to in the last TG FCE. The only FCE in which they offered a totally different fantasy color was the Feary Legend one, I think. I believe Light Green was available, and they also offered more sculpts than in other FCEs.

Ai Was One Of The Soom Adamilli Centaurs That The Torso Didn't Fit The Horse Body. He Was Flopped Sideways Cause Of That. I Am Scared To Sand him So I Didn't Mess With Him. Today I Saw Him & I Felt Really Bad For Him So I Boiled His Lower Torso & Rubbed Him Down. Now He Fits The Horse Body. He Doesn't Fit 100% But I Am Happy With How He Is.

Exactly what do you mean by boiled him? At what temperature and how long. What kind of pot did you use? Any other details you care to share?

When The Water Started To Boil I Would Dip The Lower Part Of The Torso For A 1 Minute & With A Rag Start Rubbing It From Side To Side. I Did This Over & Over For A Hour. I Saw Videos On Youtube Of People Doing This To There Dolls Hands To Re Mold The Fingers & Thought It Would Work On My Dolls Torso & It Did.

 

Wow, That is really cool? I have heard of people boiling resin to get dents out but didn't know it could shrink? resin a little. Thanks for sharing!! I have the Soom Yosd Catataur, I didn't notice any problems with fit, though she likes to sit back on her haunches.

 

Thank you for posting your Marl Malaryush, what do you mean, she is not very good, she is gorgeous! I love that sculpt so much, especially the dreamy eyes and I think it suits the white skin very well. Too bad that this combination can't be ordered in the FCS, but I think normal skin or even bronze would look super pretty aswell. I just cannot seem to be able to mix and match Soom sculpts in the FC events, as fun as that looks, the perfect combination for me always ends up as the default head + body combinations. For example, I love Marl/Borol's head and body together so much, I could never seperate the two with other sculpts' parts (to be able to order white skin). The only exception would be North/Iceland, but I would prefer that sculpt on the human body I think, to be a mini version of my Abies. Unfortunately they seem to be very rare, has anyone actually got a North/Iceland to spam, pretty please?

 

Completely new to soom here! I love love LOVE the fantasy parts. Particularly the centaurs which is what I'm here asking about! How often if at all do soom re-release limited dolls? Is it particularly rare, or does it happen occasionally? Love seeing all of your soomtaur pics! Here's hoping they either re-release a few or bring out new ones in the near future.

They do occasionally re-release dolls, but the when and how is kind of random. For example, they originally released Shale and Adamelli as Cream White hooved human dolls. A few years later, they re-released them as centaurs, also in Cream White. Then, a few months after that, they re-released Shale as a Grey Skin, winged centaur. They also did a re-release of Grey and Ace recently, but with romantic (= half-lidded) eyes and hooves instead of their original open eyes and fox parts.
So, basically they do re-release some dolls, but they usually change a few things about them. They also don't offer the same outfits for them during re-releases.

BUT, Soom does Post MD Events twice a year. In these events, they sell dolls and outfits that were produced during the original ordering period, but were cancelled for some reason (e.g. layaway was never fully paid). You aren't guaranteed to get one, though, since they do a lottery to determine who gets to buy a doll during the event. I got lucky three times already, and got Borol, Shale and Ace from Post MD Events^_^
If you like the Little Gem centaurs in particular, there is a chance they'll be offered in a Post MD Event someday, since they were released fairly recently and haven's shown up in any events yet

Also, they sometimes do Free Choice Events of sold out dolls. During these events, they let you choose the head and body of the doll you want from a list of about 6 previously released dolls. You also get to pick a skin color, but you can't recreate an existing doll. Meaning you could get an Ace head on an Ace body, but not in Cream White since that was her original color. You can, however, buy two Cream White dolls (e.g. CW Ace head on CW Dune body, and CW Dune head on CW Ace body) and swap the heads later
The next Little Gem Free Choice Event is going to be in April, and most likely the dolls offered will be Nor/Dune, Borol/Marl, North/Iceland, Lig/Nodia, Goss/Thera and Grey/Ace. FCE skin colors are usually Cream White, Normal Skin and Bronze Skin, but they sometimes offer Grey Skin as well if enough people ask for it^^

Anyway, if you're interested in centaurs, IMO it's likely Soom will release some new ones sometime this year, since they're usually pretty popular. Also, I hope they'll do a centaur FCE someday. Since there's only very few LG centaurs so far, I guess a TG centaur FCE is more likely right now, though.

And thank you, Zomboid! I absolutely love my girl - the problem is my terrible photography, not her! Unfortunately, I've always found it difficult to get good outdoor shots of her. (In most of the pictures from that shoot, she's so washed out that you can't even tell she has a nose. *sweat*) Those dreamy eyes are exactly what won me over, too.

I do get what you mean about the mixing and matching, though. I've done a bit in the past events, but I do think a lot of them look the best in their original combinations. In the last LG FCE, I ended up getting a pair so I could swap their parts back together (Aphan-Sueve and Sueve-Aphan, so I could swap them back into full Aphan and Sueve).

I do hope someone can fulfill the request for North/Iceland. They're so adorable, I'm surprised there don't seem to be many around.

Yeesh, anyone else surprised when they realize it's been two years since the last Little Gem event? Doesn't feel like it should have been that long ago! The older you get the faster time goes. I just looked and that was the last time I ordered anything directly from Soom!

 

Thats strange... They took it down. Grey/ace, goss/thera, ior/komat, the polar bear ones were on there and lig/nodia were definitely on the
list that i remember. Oh yeah and marl and his/her other were on there.

Wait, what?! Komat and Ior can't be on the list, that'd totally screw up my plans! If this is true, then...OMG, what am I gonna do? I was totally set on a bronze Goss body and the only hard part would have been choosing between the Goss and Nor heads...but if Komat/Ior are offered, this will be really tough. I love that sculpt, and since I didn't get Ior in the Post MD, this might be my only chance to get her.

Im planning on getting komat/ior head on thera/goss body!

does anyone know how they do the monthly outfit for fce? is it a brand new outfit or a reissue from a previous LG release?

 

IF they offer one, it'll be a brand new one. There have been FCEs without outfits being offered, though. I think they didn't offer any for the last TG FCE, for example.

That's definitely the previous one. I got Mylo/Adamelli and Shale/Tuff (then swapped the legs to give me a human Mylo and a full Shale with Tuff winged torso) in that FCE.

BTW, about Komat/Ior: I wonder if getting a bronze one will be allowed. I mean, technically bronze and tawny aren't exactly the same, but they are very similar...

Also, I really hope they add grey skin now that Komat/Ior is on the list. I would love a grey Ior:3

 

Ah, dang, I was also really hoping that grey resin would be one of the options. I'd love a grey Thera. With any luck, they may consider it if they get enough requests. If not, I'm still excited to get a chance at Nodia!

And bronze Komat/Ior should be fine. They allowed bronze Phonolus in the Megagem event, and he was originally released in tawny.

 

Soom has added resin colors in the past because enough people requested it. It wouldn't hut to ask them to add grey.

 

That's what I was hoping for, thanks^^ If I decide to order a bronze Ior, I will ask on the Q&A just to be sure, though. They do sometimes change the rules for these things (e.g. you can't win more than one doll during Post MD Events anymore).

Anyway, let's all start asking for Grey Skin as soon as the list is up
I hope they'll post it again today, but since they just released a new MD and posted a notice about Dolltopia, I guess it's more likely to happen later in the week:/

 

Yeah, I expect it's always safest to confirm. :3 (And I hadn't realized that about the Post MD events! I was lucky enough to win two dolls during one event. At the time, I was surprised that it worked out that way, but I suppose it must have happened often enough if they changed the rule.)

I am definitely on-board for making the request!

Because I'm eager, and I like poking around, I looked back at some of the more recent Free Choice events to get an idea what to expect:
The TG FCE teaser was announced October 1, the full announcement went up October 6, and the order period started October 10.
The Faery teaser went up June 23, the full announcement was June 26, and the order period was opened immediately.
The most recent male SG event teaser went up February 18, full announcement February 20, order period opened February 21.
The most recent female SG event teaser was posted October 31, full announcement November 4, opened November 6.
The previous LG FCE teaser was posted February 13, full announcement February 18, opened February 21.

So, from those most recent events, it looks like the time between the first teaser and the full list has been 2-5 days, with the event opening 0-4 days later. All of the above events were open for 2 weeks, except the female SG event, which got extended to 3 weeks after they added options.

I had really been hoping for the tail end of April, but it looks like we should expect it to hit next week, if not the end of this week.
