[Adopted] Mirodoll Discussion - Part V !

Mar 3, 2016

    1. @chalyss sometimes you just have to let it out. ;)

    2. *LOLOL* Thanks for understanding. I want it so I can place a new one. :doh

Well, and I just WANT IT!! ARG!

    3. @Blankqueen Wow, she is gorgeous! Love her outfit and wig.
@TsukimoriKahoko They are amazing! Love them!

    4. Now that I've finally got my January order, I'm plotting a new one. How do you go about asking them for a custom color? I want to get the 66cm guy in Elfdoll Homme Skin. A couple of years ago someone had Miro do that color. I wonder if they'd still have it on "file".

    5. @Darren can't believe I have not commented on how stunning your wind is! *__*

@chalyss I know how you feel.... I went past the 10-12 day final eta..... and still no word T_T Monday will be 2 weeks.... I should not be counting this much. lololol! =hugs hugs hugs= Hang in there!!!!!

    6. When I had to have a custom colour done, I emailed Mirodoll using the email listed on the site. They still had the listing for that purple-grey EID-compatible body at the time, and I wanted a 62cm and 72cm body in that colour. It was recommended that I ship the colour sample though.

I recommend just emailing the team and ask. :)

    7. I also emailed them with my orders with custom colors. The first time, I sent a color swatch through email and got a color that wasn't much of a match. I guess I could have asked them to redo it, but as the character is a modest dresser, I decided it didn't really matter that much. The second time, I sent them a spare hand that I wanted to match to, and the match was much closer. Still not 100%, but close enough that just a little blushing takes care of it. I definitely recommend sending them a part of what you're trying to match to rather than relying on monitor colors being the same.

    8. Yes, they do!

    9. Cool, thanks! My dolls don't have any parts they can afford to lose.

    10. Oh I need to do that, too ... Elfdoll Real and Ringdoll tan. But I'm such a chicken about sending potentially irreplaceable resin parts out, and getting stuff from China into Germany is a major pain .... I've been hunting for a GO for ages. :sigh

    11. I do recommend a Group order, for sure... when I sent my Rain head back as a colour sample, it cost me $125 CAD to get it there. But it did indeed get sent back again. :)

    12. Maybe we need to organize our own GO. I'm not sure how Mirodoll works it-- I assume they'd all have to be the same color, but how about the same sculpt? Has anyone tried this before?

    13. Hey you guys! I was wondering, does mirodoll actually ship through DHL? Their shipping price estimate says DHL, but I'm hoping it's a mistake :sweat
If they do, do they declare the full worth of the doll?

    14. The last/Only Mirodoll GO I participated in, had all the samples sent to the Host, then sent all at once to China. The host received the samples back with the bodies and then sent back to their respective owners with the bodies.

    15. All the experiences, I have had are with DHL, and I always had to pay the customs/brokerage fee.

    16. I know that. They're super unforgiving with fees. :/ That's why I wanted to know if miro really ships through them. I will probably have to look to buy secondhand instead.

    17. I recommend to always expect to pay customs/duty with this hobby if you are buying from outside your country. That way you will never be caught unprepared...

    18. Mind you, with Mirodoll, the most I ever had to pay for those fees are about $16CAD...

    19. been ordering dolls for the past 8 years and the only time I've had to pay custom fees was when I ordered through DDE, because they declared the full value. Canada post doesn't charge fees if the parcel is worth $100 or under, and pretty much all companies on asia underdeclare.
DHL is just a bit crap to deal with in general.

That's not too bad. What was the order?

    20. Yea, I know what you mean. Some one in my local doll group recently placed an order, and DHL, not Mirodoll, accidentally delivered the parcel to Las Vegas... Wrong country, for sure.

But as a general rule, I just make sure I have extra cash on hand, just in case. With me, I just wanna make sure I get the dolly with as least wait time as possible... I am just stubborn and foolish that way...

    21. @sahoma maybe they'd be willing to ship EMS instead, if you asked?

@NeeP haha, Las Vegas. That's close to Alberta, isn't it? ;)

      • x 1
    22. @Alewife Eh, close enough. Same continent at least...

    23. Sure, could be worse! There were a few times when EMS sent packages to Austria instead of Australia.

    24. Erg... Well, I haven't had much problems myself, fortunately... I never had a Mirodoll parcel lost anyhoo.
(Sorry, but I thought I better get this thread back on track...) :)

    25. I've been lucky too. I just put a note on my door and DHL leaves the package at the apartment complex office.

    26. DHL is a pain to deal with, but in Germany there's a special club from hell called the GDSK. I know and expect fees, as customs generally won't hand over packages unless you show them what they call "proof of payment", but GDSK makes you fill in an extra bunch of pages of paperwork, print that, and pay postage to send it to them so they can send it on along with an invoice for the ransom. Instead of, you know, just sending it on to the local customs office which hands it over soon as they get the extra paperwork the club from hell demands on top of the whole shebang. Not fun. I'd own a dozen more Miros (and other Chinese dolls) if it wasn't for this hassle.
The last GO I took part in was organized by a DoA member from the Netherlands, as far as I understand they have less extra stuff to deal with. I'd organize one in a heartbeat but Germany is the worst country for doing GOs from if parts of it leave the country again, as everything that enters here gets slapped with a 20% import fee whether it goes back out or not. :doh

      • x 1
    27. That seems like an extra cheapskate thing, to make you pay for the privilege of being billed! Sounds like the US healthcare system. ;) Do you also have an import fee if it's something you buy from the US?

    28. Yes. Everything from outside the EU gets slapped with it. Doesn't matter if the group-ordered stuff stays in Germany, but is a royal pain for anyone outside Germany because their stuff is suddenly 20% more expensive just for the privilege of having passed through Germany :ablah:

    29. That's bad. :( It would make you think twice about buying any doll.

      • x 1
    30. I love the new mirodoll body :)

How long is the waiting time for mirodoll to USA Now? When I order a few years ago from them I remember I only had to wait about 2 weeks?

Also I know that mirodoll white skin is a good match for migidoll white. Do you know is mirodoll normal matches migidoll normal?

Thanks you so much in advance for the help :)

    31. Has anyone been having problems accessing the Mirodoll website? I've been getting an error of "this page isn't working" for three days now. D:

    32. Yeah, it's been some what down. It just never loads. Probably something like the server is down.

    33. When I ordered from Mirodoll, they did under-declare the packages, but with DHL, there are always fees.

And in the Montreal area, their office is, ugh... I never want to deal with them again. It took me two extra days to convince them there were only two boxes. A bunch of idiots working there.

I do believe you can order from Mirodoll through email and request that they send by EMS. I plan to do so with my next order from them.

    34. There is some problem with the website. It will be open again soon. Sorry for the inconvenience. The orders are under making. If you have questions, you can contact us, we will answer you very soon. [email protected]

    35. I noticed that with my orders-- not the idiot part, fortunately. ;) But the tracking showed sometimes 2 boxes, sometimes 4, for the same shipment. By the time it delivered, it said 4 boxes, so the delivery showed as a partial delivery. But I got everything in 2 boxes. Weird!

    36. I had that once. Said two boxes, but only had one... Trippy.

    37. I'm planning on getting a hector head on a 60cm boy body. Does anyone have any photos on him on this body? And has anyone had any experience with doing a custom face up for him?

    38. Oops, so I found another thread that might be more likely to get me answers to my hybriding question. On a different note... Does Miro's custom resin color go all the way through? I remember reading a while back how some companies only surface-color their resin, so if you sand it, the original color shows through.
      I am pretty sure that Miro's resin is solid through, but I wanted to double-check before I order the body and mod it ^.^;

    39. Does anyone know if mirodoll has a good color match for spirit doll normal skin or if I should get a custom color?

    40. I don't know if you know, but they actually make a 60cm version of the heads so that they will fit the bodies better. At least they do with Apollo. That's what I ordered anyway, he's not here yet. I also ordered a custom face up for my Apollo. (I know you're asking about Hector, but I figured they are pretty similar) I'll have to post pics when I get him.

So here's a question: the 70cm Iris girl comes with the smaller chest by default, right? If I wanted the big chest I would have to ask for it? (I don't want it, I'm hoping she comes with the smaller one!!)

    41. @Dark Angel : I thought I remembered two separate listings? But I bet that was just for the body, lol. Yeah, just comment that you want the small chest. I actually ordered both when I ordered my dark choco Iris so I could be sure which size I wanted for her and so that they came from the same resin batches~

Now that I'm thinking about it... I usually have multiple requests so end up just ordering via email, Lolol!

    42. I want to buy an IOS jade head and the neck is 12cm and the shoulders are 15.5cm.
Which 60cm body would work better for him. The normal or the thicker neck?

    43. Quick question for you guys who know Miro colors better than I do...

After a nearly three-month wait, I finally got my summer "project doll" in yesterday. He's supposed to be a black resin Rain. Well, I definitely got a Rain. That part's as it should be. But he isn't black. He's a dark, slightly blueish grey... almost a gun-metal grey.

Looking at other people's owner pictures of Miro black resin, it *looks* actual black... But I know company colors change and photos aren't always accurate to Real Life. So, my question is, I guess, is this one of those cases? Is Miro "black" actually supposed to be dark blue-grey these days, or did I get someone's custom color (He does look darker than the pics of the grey Rain on their site-) or what?

In any case, if he really is "my" doll, dark grey's not going to work for making a shadow-person, so there's probably a full-body air-brushing in this guy's future. (There might have been regardless, honestly, as awful as the discoloration and patchiness from where they sanded him is. It's... really bad. O_o I mean, I know he's an inexpensive doll from a budget company, so I didn't expect perfection, but... yikes. ) But that'll be after I mod his face off.

    44. Not sure about the true black color aspect (since I don't have one) but if he is already very dark you could dye him with idye poly. The possibility of streaking would be minimal and it would even out the sanding marks. Air brushing would work but would eventually rub off around the joints. I've heard that using dark brown dye over black works the best. Black idye gets you to that dark gunmetal gray you are talking about.

    45. Gun-metal grey is the color he is now... I need black. And frankly, given the level of discoloration that's already present from sanding, I'd be pretty shocked if dying him didn't result in a black and grey zebra. (It really is bad, all joking aside. Air-brush, dye or all-over resending, I'm going to have to do something to even out his color.)

    46. That's really strange, @Brightfires. I would contact Mirodoll and ask if they got it mixed up. Their black should actually be black, not dark grey.

    47. That's really what I needed to know most...
Having not ordered from Miro before, I wasn't sure about the color.

This is the dude in question...
(Excuse my drone and other weirdness in the background. I just plopped him on the printer table to take a couple of photos-)

Knowing he really is a misdirected orphan, I emailed Miro about him. In the meantime, I gave him a good cleaning to get the dust and mold-release off of him. Not that being dust-free really helped the situation with his sanding marks. If anything, they're worse when he's clean. :horror: Yikes.

    48. Anyone have any Luts Event head in NS on a Mirodoll new boy body? :)

    49. @Brightfires : omgoodness, he is definitely gray! Yes, good that you emailed them about it. As for the patchiness, with the dark chocolate it's recommended to take some soft wool cloth and buff the resin.... You can try that on this guy and see how much it helps. Hope Miro gets back to you soon!

@Penguin-chan : Do you have a specific head in mind? I have several Luts CP sculpts as well as current Luts heads (Annette and Howl).

    50. I have !
My Lance is a 2013 Winter Event head, on a new 61cm boy body.

    51. @Brightfires wow, he is definitely un-black and patchy. Kind of a neat color, but not what you wanted!

    52. Well... So much for that.
They claim he really is what passes for black, so it seems like I'm stuck with him as-is. <_<

      Thank you for your mail.

Your Rain is really BLACK, not grey. Grey doll is like the attached photo. This material can not be pure black, when the doll is sanded, there is some white sand marks or a layer of sand powders, it makes the doll look like grey. And it is summer, we can not add too much black color to resin, if too much black is added, it is very easy to get bubbles. We will try cast transparent material in black, maybe this material can be real black. Thank you very much for your understanding. We suggest you to use a little vaseline to wipe over the doll, the color will be better. The doll is very well sanded and very smooth actually. We have considered to remove black and dark chocolate from the color options, but many people ask us to keep them. Many people like them. But the dark color dolls are very hard to make, and really very easy to get sand marks, and get issues.

      Thanks and Best Wishes!
      Miro Doll

... And if something that looks like a grey zebra is their idea of "well sanded", I'm frankly boggled. A little Vaseline is NOT going to fix the level of color problems this doll has. True, he doesn't have seam lines. He's very smooth. But he's also a flipping mess.

Oh well. All-over paint-job it is.

    53. Needless to say, I'm not impressed.

I doubt I was going to order anything else from Miro anyway, but the combination of "Oh, that's what our black is SUPPOSED to look like" (When I know that's not previously been the case based on owner pictures, and then getting confirmation from you guys-) and "He's just uneven because he's dusty" (Nope. He was unstrung and cleaned before I took the pictures.) has pretty much landed them squarely on my personal No Way/Not Gonna list.

I went with this guy over my original choice (I'd initially thought about starting with a black resin Dollshe Orijean as a base-) because I was wary of modding the heck out of something that pricey, and didn't want to wait a year to get him... But in retrospect? It probably would have been less face-palm inducing.

    54. O___o That really is strange.... Only thing I can think of is that he should be an even darker gray but for the sanding....

I do have a dark chocolate doll and she does have sanding patches. I've even observed an almost white color from where resin bubble pieces popped off and where her finger is broken. I do wonder if offering no sanding for those who want dark colors would be a better option? Dunno...

Probably should post pics later, lol.

    55. @TasiaChiba - I got myself two Luts Summer 2016 heads, but don't know how the proportions look with so many choices for Mirodoll. lol..

@kulukala - Ohhh! Do you have any naked pictures of Lance on that body? :)

    56. That questions sounds rather fishy, and made me laugh. Not a normal request you would see anywhere but on a doll forum (at least I hope);)

    57. It matches really good I have a Migidoll head on a 60cm Mirodoll boy looks perfect!
