[Adopted] Immortality of Soul: Discussion Part II!

Sep 27, 2011

1. I was really wondering what was being discussed in that point, thank you so much for translating it. I hope she is able to get her thoughts down, artist block is the worst. >_<

I am sure mileage varies by person, but I have to say yes! For me with was my lone doll wanted a friend, and then a story for them was thought up and thus more dolls were needed for the other characters. Truly it just rolls down hill from there. XD

Wait a minute, only four?? I think you may be loosing that battle there. ;-)

2. I only wanted ONE doll and maybe one really nice outfit... but I lost that battle about 30 days after my first and it's been STEEPLY downhill since then! *_*

My artificial constraints have fallen one by one... But I still try to have them. Right now it's: NO 80cm Dolls. But these IOS boys have me yearning big-time. So far, I'm resisting and will love seeing what you and everyone else does with them... (but knowing me, I'm sure resistance is futile...)

3. Yeah, by about twenty dolls.....*hangs head*

I wonder, regarding the artist's block problem, if we could translate feedback back into Korean?

4. Macaron Tea - You are welcome!

St. James - They speak English fairly well so I don't think you'd have to do that. Also, I haven't looked at their Korean blog page beyond what I translated for you guys so far, but in Korea you can't sign up for a website unless you give them your Korean social security number. You can't have so much as an email address without it, so foreigners have a hard time signing up for Korean websites unless they have an international version of their page. It's pretty frustrating for people who speak Korean but aren't Korean nationals. x_X;

Ok, I will have a look at their skull post soon and let you guys know what's up~ If you have any other requests, let me know. It's good practice for me. ^^

5. Ok~ I've got the correct translation ready for you guys. Really, this just seems to be a blog. Not truly a company work blog, but just a blog-blog. XD They don't appear to be posting any serious information about their products on this page, so don't get too excited...

anatomy—? | Artist R

보통 촬영 소픔은 간략하게 만들어서 사용하는 편인데,
Usually photographing a sculpt is a piece of cake because the subject is already there;

이번 소픔은 해부학 공부도 할겸,,,,<절대 거창한 것이 아닙니다!!!
but this time around I’m studying anatomy at the same time...and it’s actually nothing major!

점토로 만들어 보았습니다!!
As you can see, I’ve made a model out of clay!!

우후후... 작게 만드니 귀엽네요~
Heeheehee! I made it tiny! Isn’t it cute~

손바닥 크기만합니다~
It’s small enough to fit in the palm of my hand~

80금 헤드와 같은 크기로 제작했고요~
I made it about the size of an 80cm doll’s head~

이제 명암만 주면 끝!!
Now if I just do some shading, it’ll be all finished!!

해골도 잘생긴 해골, 귀여운 해골, 못생긴 해곤....
It’s a skull, and a good-looking skull, a cute skull, an ugly skull...

동생이 구박하며 잘생기게 만들라고.... 잔소리 좀 들었습니다...
My little sister* beat the hell out of me** for doing this, though, and after I made him so good-looking, too... I got a bit of a scolding...

힝~
Sigh~

우씨!!! 장난이나 치자!
Damn!!! Make a little mischief around here, and you get your ass kicked!**

‘I’m s-sorry...โ€™

{Translation Notes:

*As you may know, in some Asian languages—such as Korean or Japanese—people often refer to one another by familial terms, even if they are not blood-related. In this case "동생" (dongsaeng) is a term that literally means "younger sibling." I assume this is actually Artist R referring to Artist M, and not literally to her younger brother or sister. (This term can be used for a male or female; in this case the gender isn’t specified. A younger sister is "여동생"/yeodongsaeng, literally "female younger sibling," and younger brother is "남동생"/namdongsaeng, literally "male younger sibling.")

**Artist R is not literally saying her sister/coworker beat her up for playing around with the sculpting clay; she's just trying to be cute and joke about the way she got snapped at. Unless IOS is actually running a sweat shop. >_> She did use a very formal term for an apology at the end... lol}

6. Fin Raziel Thank you for the translation ^ ^ But I do believe, if I remember corrently, that Artist R and M are indeed real sisters ;D I remember when Ios used to be one-person company and said that her sister would come work with her ^ ^~

7. Now that you mention it, I remember someone saying that when I first found out about IOS! I'm guessing that's who she's talking about, then. ^^ And you are very welcome!

8. thank you so much Fin! really appreciate the translation!
Wow I wish I could do a small business with my sister like that too. Would be so cool!

I wish they were doing something with that skull, but ah well... It does look good.

9. You're welcome. ^^ Yeah, seems she's just playing around. She did a really good job, though. It's kinda freaky.

10. I'm head over heels in love with Anarmonia :aheartbea, but i'm quite new to IOS. Never really paid too much attention to them until just recently after seeing people getting their Lacrimosa. Does anyone know though if the "new normal" and "new white" are different skin colors than the older or class 70 dolls? I'm trying to get a good feel on how their white skin is like.

11. :D Isn't he amazing?

I only have second hand knowledge, but the new skin colours seem to be quite different. IOS colour information is here. You can find a lot of information about new and old skin colours in the IOS resin matches thread, and in the body comparison IOS Lacrimosa thread you'll see the new class 80 bodies (new skin colours) in comparison with a lot of skin tones from other companies.

@ St. James, Fin Raziel, Macaron Tea and april

.... at least now I'm prepared ...
I am pretty sure the same thing will happen to me. Still three months to go until I can order my "S" in January, and I am already planning for another doll. Poor boy would be lonely all by himself, so he'll need a friend.

12. Thank you so much for the links! I don't know how I missed the IOS color information when I was like stalking their page like crazy last night haha. I'm an overall sucker for white skin lately and couldn't stop thinking about him all night that this morning I just had to place an order for him already :XD:. I don't know how I'll handle such a large boy, but I guess it won't be too bad since my Dollshe Saint is about 76cm tall. Anarmonia will officially just be...half my height lol.

13. That was my excuse!!! I got my first doll as part of a couple. A year later I found his match. And every doll I've bought since then just makes me wonder who I can pair them up with. Right now I actually have a bunch of single guys (and girl), but I'm on the lookout for partners for all of them. XD

S is such a beauty, he needs someone perfect to match. ^^ Ah, I just leave that doll~

14. I just checked their website and Osiris and Chaos will be released again this coming December, I plan on getting Osiris then and in January they will release G and M. They release dolls quarterly so this will work out for me. I hope they can do layaway as well if I can't get Osiris head only, don't know where I would put another 70cm doll.

15. I just had a moment of nervousness - Fin Raziel and me are already celebrating the re-release of "S" in January, and I wondered if the re-release plans have been changed. :nowords:

But no: "S" and "M" will be back in January, and "Osiris" and "Chaos" in December.
I'm glad you'll be able to get your Osiris! IOS offers layaway. You can pay half right away and the rest within 30 days.

16. I'd love an Osiris as well. I am broke and there are currently two in the MP, as well as a Sezz. That's how it happens though.

17. So I just discovered that the resin match for spirit white is spot on but.... BUT the new site has no listing for neck size. Does anyone know if their 70 class dolls all have the same neck circumference as far as the head seating on the body. I saw a Sezz on the spirit and the head size is great... but I would need to taper the neck and such. No big but still. Now work at all would be preferable :). Now I am happy and will just wait for Shadow to come back next year!

18. Does anyone know IOS's paypal address? i'm having trouble with it since I want to do layaway but don't have their address to do it. It's also the weekend for them now so I'm not getting a response on their Q&A either.

edit: Nevermind! I found it! Sent my first payment for my Anarmonia. I'm quite excited yet completely bewildered since he'll be so huge! I sort of wish that IOS offered faceups though. Really love their style.

19. Yes!!!! If they change plans now, I will cyber-harass them with infinite whining of DOOM!!!

20. A bit of a shock in the morning, but it was only a typo in derilan85's post.
I would be devastated - I'm in love :aheartbea

21. Yes, indeed~ He's just so beautiful. After Soom burglarized my funds, though, I think I may only be able to get one instead of two. >_< If I can only get one I'm going with the whiter of the two. I got a normal skin doll from another company lately, and against all my others he is freaking yellow. I'm disappointed about that. The yellow-looking tone IOS has (can't remember what they call it...'new white'??) is really beautiful, but after seeing a yellow-toned doll next to my others, I don't want another. lol Maybe I'll just get the white one and take extra, extra good care of him...

22. I was sure I would go with the normal skin tone, but the more white dolls I see, the more I like the colour. Three months to go - I might have changed my mind by January...

23. Yeah, there's time to decide. ^^ I've paid off half my first Soom doll and plan to order one more before their event ends. Then I will not look at any other limited dolls or any doll-selling sites until IOS releases S, I swear it!!!!

24. I am a little worried about the special event season that's coming up. Don't a lot of companies offer special prices and free event heads at the end of the year? I already saw the first christmas event announced in the News Forum. ... I won't be tempted - I want my "S". I definitely won't be tempted - I want my "S", ..... :XD:

25. The fourth quarter is always hell on the dolly wallet! I cannot let myself be swayed by any newcomers this year though! >_____< At least, our house rule about only one character is massively huge and needs an 80cm body will keep me slightly safer from the upcoming Class80s.

26. I'm not sure how far back the new resin colors go, but I know that Jaguar was only available in "new white" so if you want to see more examples of new white, Jaguars are safe (to look at for resin color, I make no guarantees of personal safety when ogling a Jaguar ;))

Here's Mackie back when he was blank. Now he's so covered in freckles you can't tell what color his underlying resin is, but it's a very nice pinky-white.

27. Oo thank you for sharing Cowpewter! This is what I was kind of looking for. I couldn't tell if the new white was like paper white or had a pinky undertone to it.I'm liking how it's a pinky white. Gives it a more...fleshy tone lol.

On a sidenote I've officially paid off half of my Anarmonia! Ios confirmed my payment. Thank you Macarontea for answering me too for their paypal address :).

28. Would be nice if there's a holiday deal for the new 80 guy! I've finally decided that I'm skipping Chaos and just waiting on Jaguar after that. C'mon IOS! give me Jaguar pleaaaaase!

29. Sezz and the other "head only" guys are actually smaller than the class 70's that come with a body and IMO fit better on the 65-68cm body ranges like SD17. You should be fine putting Shadow on the Spiritdoll body since he's made for a larger body and neck than they are.

30. Yeah, I'm not too worried about other companies' sales and stuff. I'm doing the Soom free choice event because the two dolls I'm getting from them have been on my wish list for a long time, but after I pay them off I am so done until I get an S! Then I'm done until I get myself out of debt. lol

31. oh guys... u-u I'm the same way with my Chaos! xD; there are so many things coming out and so many offers, so many events... and I'm like... HNNNNGH. But no... I must persevere.

I also second Reshana... my Sezz is definitely going on a slightly shorter than 70cm body... I think his head looks a tad tiny on the SSDF body (although that might be because I'm used to my other boy's big head by now)

32. I'm not too worried about other companies but I'm worried about my spouse... she already eyeballing an event and I'm like noooooo! I must get my dolly!!:...(

I can't wait for december! but I.O.S. needs to quit making such pretty 80 cm boys! my wallet can't take it! lol

33. I hope your split goes ahead. That might make things a bit more affordable. Did you order one of the class 80 boys? I like them a lot, but my lotto ticket wasn't a winning one...
In the mean time I have been researching wigs and eyes for "S". At the moment I have my eyes on a pair of green urethanes from Makoeyes, but I am not sure if they would fit. IoS gives 12 - 14mm as the right size, but I wonder which material would be best.

34. thanks batch, I should be able to get chaos either way and nope, I havn't ordered any of the class 80, just like 'em. If I have to I will layaway chaos!

I bet urethanes would work great you can really get them squished in the eyewell. I plan on getting soft eyes for my chaos. I'll be modding the eyes open but what size eyes do you guys think I should order? I'm not going to open them too much just enough so you can see his eyes a bit better...

35. Thank you for the info on urethanes! Squishy sounds great - I'd like to achieve a gapless fit ;)

I am completely inexperienced when it comes to dolls eyes, but I think opening the eyes a tiny bit would look great in Chaos without changing his expression (love it!).
Dal has slightly larger eyes and IoS recommends 14-16mm for him. I wonder if you can get away using 14mm for Chaos (instead of the recommended 12mm).

36. well xD I've been planning my Chaos in advance for the longest while and from what research I've done 12mm should be juuuust right. You can -probably- get away with 13mm and 14mm as well (most eyewells fit one size up eyes.) You can also get 14mm in silicone just to be safe since its squishy and all~

37. Urethanes aren't squishy, btw, so if you want squishy, make sure you buy silicon eyes, like Soom eyes or Eyeco "soft glass"

Urethane eyes are made from a hard urethane resin (just like our dolls!)

38. whoops my bad... I suck guys lol

39. I believe my Chaos is wearing 12mm glass, and they fit just fine. ^__^
Edit, adding image...

40. Thank's for the info on eyes guys! I am glad I asked :daisy

To the lucky "S" owners: What kind of eyes do you use?
Any recommendations would be very appreciated.

41. XD A new new picture of the new guy up on the blog now!
Fin, if you have time to translate I'd be grateful again! Not much info there, but anything would be nice to know.

I wish they'd post more pics of him from different angles showing the face clearly.

42. He looks GOOD with the face-up!

43. XD He looks great!!! So nice to see him in color/with a faceup finally~~~ I hope they put more pics soon too. I want to see a profile shot before I make my final decision.

44. [IMG]

:aheartbea:aheartbea:aheartbea

45. Looks like Anarmonia's finally sold out now too. XD We can haz more pics nao plz, IOS? Love that smile~~~<3

46. Squishies are fun to...squish, but they seem to be a little sticky, too. So they pick up cat fur and lint and stuff. I only have one pair of squishy eyes and probably wouldn't buy more because of that, but they're neat. Just hard to clean when it's dusting time.

I have mostly 16mm eyes, I think... I'm not a genius with the numbers, either. I just know that 18mm is freaking huge. I have one pair and can't use them on anyone, and most of my dolls are in the 70cm range. I've got a pair of 14mm that show a lot of whites so they look really natural and realistic, but I think I prefer 16mm, because the iris color will pretty much fill the eye cavity and show off whatever color you chose for your doll's eyes.

I have some glass eyes that are nice and reflective, but I have really cheap plastic eyes that are actually very pretty too. I don't like huge domes because they fit funny sometimes on smaller eyeholes, so the iris is pushed back into the head and the color doesn't show very well. I prefer a flatter surface, I think.

I'm really not an eye expert. .-. I'd like to know what people use for S or other IOS 60cms, too...

47. I aorw the new doll <3 I'm so upset that I don't think I can afford him. He's EXACTLY what I've been looking for. My DOI Luke, Salem is desperate to have IOS' new 80cm hunk as his partner and Captain, Cole. Hopefully even though I can't get him now, he'll be rotatated again at some point in 2013 and I'll get the chance to snatch hm up!

48. Squishy AND sticky? Oh no - that won't work! I have two cats and Larry is very fluffy. There's always cat hair floating in my house. :sweat
I am a bit confused about dome sizes. Some eyes seem to have very high domes, and I am woried those might not fit very well, if the eyes are narrow or small. I think IOS recommends 12-14mm for 'S'. Looking at the pictures on the IOS homepage, wonder if the eyes in the upper pics (brownish eyes, long wig) is 14mm, and in the lower ones (blues eyes) is 12mm. Or is the size of the pupil the only difference?

49. Yeah, I definitely couldn't tell you by looking... High domes have never worked out well for me personally among my collection, that's all I know. I'm sure they'd tell you what they've got in him if you ask, though. They seem to be pretty helpful. Some places refuse, though. @_@ I'm like, 'Uh, if you don't sell eyes, why would you care who I bought them from?' lol

50. My "S" is wearing 14mm acrylics which I understand to be regular/low dome. I'll try and grab a new photo of him in the morning as he is completely over due to be in front of the camera.

51. I also had the impression that IOS is very friendly and helpful. Strange that some companies won't tell us. I thought customer service is important, and an e-mail doesn't cost much...
I am still having fun browsing eyes and wigs. And while I see more and more amazing eyes, wig hunting is a little more difficult. There are quite a few wigs that I like, but those are often too large or I just can't imagine them on 'S'. At the moment I'm eyeballing this one, but I am not sure if it would work for 'S'.

Thank you so much - that would be great!
:)... it might be a little early for all these questions, but it's all part of celebrating my first doll

52. It's never too early! XD The last thing you want is for a doll to arrive without hair, makeup, eyes, or clothes. eek! I've gone through that one too many times. You can't play properly without all the essentials! hahaha

53. The Soom eyes don't seem to pick up a whole lot of dust, but I've heard that the other brands of squishy eyes are way squishier than Soom's. Soom eyes are quite firm, they just have a little bit of give. I feel like the Soom eyes don't have as rich a color as you can get with glass or decent acrylics though. They always seem weirdly desaturated at certain angles. Not sure if I have any pics to show what I mean though. I guess you can kinda see it here (linked cause doll offtopic for this thread: http://www.flickr.com/photos/cowpewter/6826439960) - near the center of the iris it almost looks white, not blue.

That said, nearly all my dolls wear either 14mm or 16mm, no matter what they're made of. My only dolls that can wear 18mms are my 70cm-range Dollzone boys, and my SID Claude wears 12mms. My Jaguar wears 14mm glass from Alice Collection.

And I've not spammed this photo yet, so here's Macavity in a sweater ^_^

54. Good point - thank you! I'll keep browsing then without feeling bad about it.
... hmmm maybe this wig would look great on him ...

55. The squishies I have came from Soom and they're quite squishy and sticky.

I love that wig, batch! I've looked at it quite a bit. Very nice~

56. Haha, this so much! Since it takes a few months on average for a doll to arrive, I always try to have at least a wig, eyes and some underclothes. Then at least I can add them to my display while I either wait on clothes to arrive or sew some. ^_^

57. Thank you! It's great to get a second opinion. What are your thoughts about the other one?

@ Cowpewter, thanks for the info about silicone and other squishy eyes. I had a look at the picture and see what you mean. I also went over to the Soom page again. They make lovely eyes. Wonderful colors and patterns, but the eyes seem to be less reflective than glass and other materials. Your Jaguar looks a little like me actually, strawberry blonde and covered in freckles. I love the green eyes! Macavity looks great in his sweater.

58. Thanks ^_^ that sweater was an extra included with another doll I bought on the MP and I stuck it on Macavity just for kicks and he rocked it, so I think it's his now. And yeah, Mackie is just a freckly ginger all over <3

He wore green Soom cat eyes (these, in 14mm http://dollsoom.com/eng/shop/item.php?it_id=1249033405) for a while, but I went back to the green glass ones again cause of that weird color loss with the silicon eyes. Also the cat pupils seem to interact differently than a normal pupil with the refraction caused by the dome. It makes the pupil look off center? It's harder to see on him because his eyes are more slitted, but you can kinda see both those issues happening here:

The green looks so vibrant in the sales pic, but really faded in the doll.

And I really like the grey wig you linked to.

59. These eyes look almost grey in the picture and the pupil seems off centre from this angle. How disappointing! Although I like the idea of cat eyes for Jaguar, the glass ones look so much better.

Thanx for your opinion on the wig. I went ahead and ordered it! I kept going back to this one for weeks now and couldn't make up my mind. I had a different style and colour in mind, but whenever I looked at pictures of wigs that were close to that style, they seemed wrong for 'S'.
