[Adopted] CP Delf Discussion - Part SEVEN!

Jun 11, 2013

    1. Congrats candy_coated! Lishes are gorgeous (and the first doll that really got me into the hobby!) I hate the pink hands too. I only ever use the other, more relaxed left hand. The pinky hand tends to snag onto knit clothes which can get really annoying.

      To everyone else:

I have a question regarding Type 1 and Type 2 (girl body) differences. Despite aesthetic differences (Type 1 bearing the waist torso joint; Type 2 bearing the hip joint instead), are there any poseability differences? Can the Type 2 hold better poses than the Type 1? I ask this knowing that Delfs aren't the greatest posers, but on a scale of Delf-poseyness: how's the Type 1 fare against the Type 2?

    2. The expression "Type 2" when it comes to girls doesn't necessarily automatically mean the body has a hip joint, although I think that was the way they were first released. I have Type 2s with the torso joint, since it's more about the addition of the neck mechanism and how that affects the size of the neck itself to take the s-hook. (I put a neck mechanism on a Type 1 once... and it didn't end well...)

As for the posing - I can only compare it to the similar B-line MNF (which also has the hip joint only), which tends to fall backwards when sitting, but can be more stable when standing. I find that the hip joint doesn't offer a large range of motion, which is why all my Delf girls have the torso joint :).

    3. Having owned both type one and type two female bodies, I can say that (in my opinion) there's really not a whole lot of difference in poseability, particularly when standing. The dolls with the torso joint do sit up a little bit better, but not by a lot. Mostly the hip joint just kinda helps them a bit when standing, but sometimes it feels like it's more trouble than it's worth xDDD

    4. Agreed.

That said, if you can handle the way the guys pose, a girl with a hip joint is going to feel pretty familiar. They have pretty much the same range of motion.

    5. Only one of my girls has a hip joint. I like the torso one better though as it gives more range of motion. At least they can twist a bit!

Though if you are going to be crazy and have big massive wings on your doll, the hip joint is helpful to support them!

    6. Just had to share Hoshi, my DES. She was my model for my store.

    7. god your girl's face is so adorable tonboko, and those wings are soo BA

      Very pretty DES Rynn :D

    8. Thanks! Hoshi will like that!

I love those wings too, Tonboko!

    9. Those wings are really awesome Tonboko!

Rynn007 your girl is so cute!

    10. Thank you! Her old face up made her look a little mean so I really love this one!

    11. I love your girl so much, I am pretty sure I could just sit and look at photos of her awesomeness all day. Those wigs she's got are such a thing of beauty. <3

    12. Your girl and her wings are SOOO gorgeous, Tonboko! Seriously though, those things are a impressive work of art! I've seen them a few times before, but I'm never any less in awe of the workmanship!

    13. TeaPartyRevolution, Hakari-chan, Brightfires, Tonboko:

Thanks for the useful feedback guys! :) I was asking as I was mulling over the idea of boob-sanding a Type 2 girl (they look far better aesthetically vs. Type 1 boob jobs in my opinion -- something to do with that a smoother, washboard illusion methinks). But seeing as the mobility is comparable to the Delf boys, I might have to rethink it. I do sometimes try to push the boundaries of Delf boy poses and try to get them to 'pop' their hips, but the inner hip-part tube thing can be SO inhibiting. Anyone ever tried sanding that down? :p

    14. CathyM removed the inner tube from a Delf boy but it made him really floppy so she put it back in and just shortened it a bit so he can pose a lot better.

With it shortened it works amazingly well, just be careful not to take out too much.

    15. Clowve - I wouldn't recommend it, personally. Sand too much and it would probably affect the overall stability of the doll and then you'd really be out of luck with posing xD If you're looking for better posing for your delf, I know I'm personally planning on getting a Fairyland F60 body for my girl. Same aesthetic with much better poseability.

I put in an offer on a damanged 05 Elf Juri head today! Hopefully it'll be accepted. Poor little dear has a broken ear, face-up damage, and some staining. I want to to a restoration project on her, along with maybe sanding her eyes open a bit. I love the Elf Juri mold, but I've never been a huge fan of the way she seems to be semi-squinting, lol, so we'll see if I can't change it to my liking!

I really shouldn't browse the master list of new posts on DoA...I always end up buying things since the marketplace posts get mixed in with stuff from the rest of the site, dammit XD

    16. Restoration projects are great fun... That's how I ended up with Muninn (my much-beloved SDF Bliss). He was a summer project "rescue case". ^_^

Re: the boy bods, I'd second the recommendation for trying a Fairyland F60 body. They're relatively pricey compared to the older Delf bods, and resin matching might be more of an issue depending on the shade of your head, Clowve, but over-all they are better posers.

    17. Thanks so much for the compliments, everyone! (though true credit should go to silverfaction for making the wings for me!)

Rynn, I love your DES! It is so rare to see one with a softer look.

So my mom came over on Mother's Day and got to see ALL my dolls (finally have a room for my various hobbies and all my dolls can be out at one!). She mistook one of my boys for a girl (my Juri A). Granted, she is not very familiar with BJDs, and he does have long silver hair... and I did not feel like correcting her or explaining that he was a boy when she said "Oh, I really like her eyes!" However when she added "They seem so mysterious... someone has a secret!" I about lost it as my brain screamed "Yep! It is in his pants!"

Poor boy... I am considering finding him a new wig. As it is, people tend to think I am making a weak attempt at him being Sephiroth half the time when I take him anywhere. :sweat

    18. Since the secondhand boy I ordered goes in the mail today, I'm going to stop lurking in here and actually ask a question. I was hoping to have him with me this weekend for the con I'm attending but would still like to get some stuff for him. Does standard "SD" type stuff generally fit them? And is it 8-9 for wigs? Sorry for the basic questions, but he's essentially going to be my first large doll, so I'm at a bit of a loss on what to get him!

    19. If the body s like type 4 I know dollmore tops are too big. With pants their thunder thighs and big butt makes them a tight fit

    20. Vicemage, wigs depend on the sculpt. Melonheads like El and Chiwoo (they have huge noggins, especially the oldest ones) need a 9/10, smaller heads like Yder and Luwen would take an 8/9. Volks clothes are SD13B generally, SD tends to be short in the leg, but exact fit depends on the body. Bodies depend on type and age and vary considerably. My Nanuri '06, Sheldon, is on an old Type 1, and my Juri '06, Elwyn, is on a much newer Type 3. Ellie can wear and sit in a pair of Nine9 Style pants that Shellie can barely squeeze into - they are so tight on his thighs that the strained stitches in the seams show, the waist took blood, sweat and tears to fasten and he can't bend, let alone sit in them. So even clothes made to fit a Delf body will fit differently from doll to doll.

    21. I'm going to de-lurk as well. :) I have a Dreaming Vampire Shiwoo head on its way. What size eyes/wig do I need for him? I know it will take a while to get a suitable body for him, but I can at least deal with the wig/eye shopping while I wait.

    22. I have a stretchy Monique 8-9 on Fergus, my Type 2 Dreaming Vampire, and a not-as-stretchy Luts 9-10 on Kingfisher, my Type 1. Both are wearing relatively low-dome 18mm eyes.

    23. Thanks, that's a huge help! :D

He's a Type 2 head, from the seller's photos. So maybe a 9-10 wig would be good if it doesn't seem stretchy? I could always add a silicone cap under it, I think.

Your boys are so lovely. :love

    24. The 9-10 may need a silicon cap (Or a thick rubber band-) to keep it in place, especially if it's a long, heavy wig like Kingfisher's, but if the cap isn't very stretchy that's definitely a safer bet than an 8-9 would be.

    25. Grats on the incoming boy, Minerva ^__^ Light Brightfires said, 8/9 or 9/10 should do for wigs, and 18mm is generally a good starting place for eyes I think? It kinda depends on the look you want for him too.

Someone beat me to that Elf Juri 05, unfortunately, so I won't be adding another girl to my collection just yet ;__; Ah well, next time! I'm seriously considering making a Delf Moon my next SD purchase. I love that strong nose!

    26. I have a regular dreaming shiwoo and he can wear 8-9 from luts and 16mm glass

sorry for crap photo, this is my d.shiwoo with 8-9in sdw-10, 18mm grey mako low dome and 16mm captured in glass high dome (some gaping due to the dome size). 8-9 needs a little wrestling with it since there's nothing for the wig to grab hold of and the cap is soo slippery... would probs be better if i could closed the head properly (type 1) XD

    27. Thanks, guys! :) That's such a help.

I'm trying for something a little more mature for him, so I might try to find some eyes with smaller irises.

    28. Thanks for the replies! The one I have coming is a modded Dreaming Shiwoo, so the 8-9 wig I'm looking at would probably fit him... I think I grabbed 16mm eyes for him, too.

    29. De lurking as I just bought a Breakaway 05 and a body.....Hope they match well, they were made a year apart and both never saw much sunlight....

    30. My Juri has finally been shipped, I'm very excited to have her home maybe.. next week if I am lucky. I took my girls out to the park with my hubby, I let him run the camera since he seemed to be enjoying it a lot. Turns it out he's great at perspective, but not getting the dolls to actually look alive on the camera and not just.. like dolls. >.<;

So amazing background check, derp doll stares, also check. But the colors are just so amazing in this photo I had to share anyway!

    31. idk i think they look like two lost girls to me XD

My shiwoo head is here :D
He's a type 2 head tho... that neck hole =_=
also he had the default face-up but it's yellowed... IDK if I should wipe T^T

    32. I have a Delf Soony on layaway, so when she arrives I will be joining the thread!! But until then, lurk mode will be activated! :D

    33. Assuming the Post Office puts him back on the truck today like I asked (I really don't understand why they attempt delivery on packages when there's an active hold in place on all my mail...), my Shiwoo should be showing up later today! :D I managed a temporary wig and eyes for him, so hopefully he'll settle in and fit for me.

Possibly an easily-answered question, but what distinguishes the different types? (For instance, candy_coated's "Type 2" head just a bit above this post.) This was a slightly spontaneous decision for me, so I don't actually know a lot about the older CP Delfs... :sweat

    34. Wahoo!! That's so exciting! I can't wait to see her.

candy_coated - Congratulations! Shiwoo love! :aheartbea

vicemage - Type 2's were made with a neck mech for easy head removal I believe. Joints (and even size) play apart in some of the types as well.

Best of luck! :D I look forward to seeing him. ^_^

    35. Type 2 has a weird neck opening for the Type 2 body's neck mechanism. I think there's some photos back in the thread somewhere. It doesn't attach with a normal S-hook.

    36. Hello, all! In an effort to cease my lurking, I decided to join discussion threads. My first and currently on SD is a Delf Yder. He's in the process of being re-strung, once his elastic gets here (my nearby craft stores have elastic good for MSDs but not SDs). I've got to admit, I love the little (relatively so) guy.
