Abio Angel Discussion - See 1st post for AA info ^^

Yeah, Fuu has a really loose headcap. e___e Almost every time he takes a dive foreward it comes loose or comes off completely and flies across the room.. >>;;

Magnets are wonderful. ;w; My B&G boy has them and his headcap doesn't go annnnnywhere, no matter how much he yanks backwards or forewards on me. ^-^ Even when I'm really clumsy it stays perfectly in place. : D

Oh, dunno if you guys already asked, but I really liked Shi-san, and since mmsedated is gone now, I wasn't sure how people could get the new molds. : D;;

I asked DivinityDoll when they'd be getting the new molds and this is the reply:

We are working on a full update to the site including the release of the
new molds. We will not be releasing them all at once, but will instead be
doing a gradual release in increments of a couple of new molds every month
or so once the update has taken place along with some special promotions
with each new mold. Please check back for updates.

So eventually DD will have the new molds. ^-^

 

Ah cool. Well not, lol... but it certainly makes me feel better to know Akira's not the only one >.< I actually did find some discussion about using sticky-tak in a thin strip along the rim of the head, so I might try that until I can work up the courage to do any sort of drilling for magnets and whatnot lol.

Congratulations on getting a Yi! I love Abio Angel's dolls, they are all so cute.

About the headcap, yup, my doll's is the same. Since I've only had him for such a short time, and he's my first doll, I really didn't know that some other companies have magnets to keep the headcaps on. Shuichi's headcap was falling off everytime I changed his clothes, and it skittered across the room when he had a tiny little fall. It wasn't really a fall, even. I had him standing on my lap and I was holding his hands when he decided to just crumple, but his wig fell off and his headcap went flying. I've since attached it to his head using four little pieces of tape until I come up with something better.

 

Oh my... they're so gorgeous! I especially love the fourth from the left (with the scarred eye). *flails* lol

Hmm...I'm not familiar with this site, but it looks interesting. Is it an online store or more of an auction site? Either way, I typed in "abio angel" and I was definitely able to find the scarred-eye mold available, which is yay. ^_^

Yeah, last night I used some white sticky-tak along the edge of the head and it seems to be holding all right now. We'll see how it holds up.... I'm going to take him outside for a bit to get some pics of his new face, so I'll let you know if it works in the long run! ^_^

 

Divinity Doll has been saying they're going to update their site for months! When I first saw their site a year ago they said they'd be adding more over the summer, but it hasn't changed at all
Me and my friend both got our dolls from there though. There was a discussion earlier about greasy-looking dolls...I don't think they're all that rare because the first two we ordered (a Ling and a Qi) both showed up kind of greasy looking. The next two we got (both Sans) had a more matte finish. Also, with those two, they were ordered at the same time, and one has the old normal skintone, and the other has the new one!

Oh, and their headcaps are also very loose...moreso with the boys, I haven't had trouble with my Qi's head yet.

Also, anyone else who's ordered from Divinitydoll - How much eye putty did you get? All of ours had only a small bit around the outside of the eye...hardly enough to hold it in place.

 

Yeah... I got Fuu in October last year, they said they'd be updating after visiting a few conventions, but I have yet to see anything new. e___e;

My first head came without eyes (I opted for him that way, because they were having an eye shortage), but the second head also arrived with just a tiny bit. Wasn't a problem though, I hate the eyeputty they used and immediately swapped it for junkyspot eyeputty anyway.

It's cheap, too, and they sent me enough to keep all three boys' eyes in WITH extra left over!

 

Ooh good to know... I wouldn't know the first thing about spotting a fake off hand!

EDIT: Regarding eye putty, my Yi actually had tons of excess putty around his eyes. But then, his were put in for me right at Anime North. O.o

 

Yeah, I saw them selling a couple dolls while I was there, and they gave them so much putty! But both of mine just had a little ring of it around the edge of their eye...if you try to move the eyes at all, it just falls away...hardly reaches off the sides of the eye at all.
It's the same way with my friend's dolls too.

My other friend ordered some eye putty though, so once she gets it all will be well

 

Taobao is the major online auctions website for China. You can find basically anything there. They have a special BJD category. What I want to say is, if you want to look for dolls from Chinese companies it's a good idea because these companies have their official dealers selling on taobao or even the makers themselves. also, you will find that dolls are cheaper. abio angel dolls are selling at around 150-200USD. if you look for luts.. volks and other companies, don't bother. you will even find clothing shops like TATA's (her own taobao shop) selling some at almost half the price listed here.

the only problem is payment. for example, I asked tata if she will accept paypal, she said if i use paypal i have to pay the usd price which is double the rmb price.

 

Yeah, I figured I'd go ahead and let people know 'cause there was a topic about Lolidoll copies that mentions Taobao having a lot of recasts and phonies on it. ^^ Not to say that Taobao is a bad place, just to alert people to being extra careful.
: D I'll have to figure out a good translator sometime so I can check it out. >w<

 

Aw that sucks... but at least it's easily remedied like that! ^_^

 

Does anyone have all of the four boys? I would love to see a in-person shot of all their faces together. The divinitydoll site pictures don't seem to do them justice

When my roommate got her Yi at Anime North in 2007, they actually didn't give her any eyeputty, and we'd never handled a BJD before, so we had no idea what we were doing... we stuck the eyes in, then stuffed the rest of his head with toilet paper to keep them in place.

At least he got eyes... her friend got a Shi while we were there too, and they had run out of eyes, so she made her a blindfold out of a lace stocking from a cosplay...

Took some shots of my San and Yi together. San has blue eyes, Yi has purple (and apologies for the Yi being all walleyed in a couple shots, his wig covers one eye, so I didn't notice the wandering until it was too late ).







My biggest gripe with Abio Angels is that they're SO hard to tell apart from one another. The chin and nose seem to be the best way.

 

Nice! I want to get the Sleeping Shi... SO CUTE! And it may be weird, but I really, really want whatever that head is with the stuck out tonuge. I think it's adorable.

(And also YAY! for more dolls with more bodies!)

I have found the confusion over the faces really annoying too - when Ace, my roommate, first got her Yi, we actually weren't told which model he was, and we had a very hard time figuring out what model he was!

 

I know. Some days, I'm STILL not sure my Yi is a Yi -- but all the others I see are NS, which seems to somehow make a huge difference in how AA dolls look? But at this point, whatever.

 

It is sad that they look so similar. :/ It makes me only want to have the Yi that I have, and not any more from the AA company. I like all of my dolls to look different in larger ways than AA can give me.

 

I would tend to agree with you on that. Although with these kind of similarities they would make great siblings, I think ^_^

 

I don't know... I have the four in my house, and except for the twins, they don't really look related at all. I think it has a lot to do with face-ups, wigs, clothing, etc.

 

You do have a point, Sparrow ^_^ The face up/wig/eyes etc. would of course have a lot of sway over the doll's overall "look", as compared to another by the same company, or even the same sculpt. Now you've really got me thinking...lol.

No really... I love them, so I think it's neat when other people have them, too. I do eventually want to get a San too... but I dunno if I want all the girls. I mean, Shi's on her way, (and I caved... and got a WS, too...) and I love that new sleeping Shi, but I'm not sure I'd want all of them. Do many people even have the girls? I only ever seem to see Shi and Ba around here.

Hi guys! I've got an Abio Angel Yi, but he's still unnamed... I feel kinda bad.

Anyway last week I won the auction on Ebay for the new Abio Angel mold "Shi-wu", that's what the seller told me he's called. I probably overpaid but his faceup was custom and so gorgeous that I went for it on impulse. I think he shipped today and I can't wait to see him. Through the web he was sending me wicked evil overlord vibes xD

I have an abio angel but I bought my girl from a con and its hard to tell exactly what kind she is~ I'll post some pictures as soon as possible, but I would really like to get her a face up

 

i got my Shiori at Youmacon last year and the same exact thing happened to me- no S hook, loos head cap, the works. I may have used a form of stick tape which wont damage the doll and I used velcro to keep the wig on that I managed to purchase.

 

Aww, yeah ... I was a bit alarmed at first, because my DZ Megi has the TIGHTEST headcap (S-hook style) ever, I swear! So when I got my Yi and his headcap was flailing about like that, I was basically like something isn't right here...

Buuut, thanks to some suggestions from the lovely members here, I've fixed him up just fine, using a thin layer of sticky-tak (like the kind used for eye putty) and it keeps it on perfectly, without any mess whatsoever. ^_^ He looks great - and isn't at risk of having a dented head anymore. I was lucky in that his wig is a pretty good fit, and hasn't really shown a need for velcro or anything like that so far.

No info, sadly... well, someone posted on here (a few pages back, I think) about this site Taobao that apparently has the new sculpts available... but then someone else warned about a lot of knock-offs being sold through there or something? :/ Not really sure... but I really like that particular sculpt myself too! He's lovely

 

The only place I knew dealers were selling the new AA was in Singapore or somewhere around there, but the dealer apparently ran off with a bunch of money, so that option is down. : x

I doubt there will be knockoffs of Abio Angels yet, seeing as it's a relatively unheard of company (at least in my experience) so there probably isn't too much to worry about. : D; It's the bigger companies like Luts or Volks that you have to be careful about buying from on sites like Taobao.

 

i dont think theres knock offs but the seller rose romance i found her shop on some foreign ebay style site with a few of the new moulds in! divinitydoll hasnt got any of the new ones and doesnt know about the scar boy but when the singapore girl did the order they moulds were available >.<

i just hope i can find out soon ive emailed rose romance and lenna and will let u know when i hear from them

I don't think they've switched yet, I think they'll be doing that when the new molds become more widely available. -shrug-

And DivinityDoll is the place you'd want to order from, since they're in Canada. ^-^ They discontinued Ba, though, so i wouldn't advise trying to order one. : x

Also, they've been pretty slow lately, from what I've heard. -shrug- but that was awhile back, they might have sped up again. I haven't noticed a lot of people in the AA waiting thread. : p

Is there a thread anywhere with a real list of resin matches to each Abio Angel NS colour?
I have two bodies on the way, one old NS (old cp and volks pureskin matching as far as i know) and one pinky new NS one (matches Souldoll(?) and...?).

I'm going to a meet on the 27th of july and will gladly take some resin comparison shots with both bodies, but can anyone give me some more companies that match new Abio Angel resin?

I bought them from Floyd here on the forums They came from china so I got them at a pretty good price too. They'll make good temp bodies

Demivenom- I don't think it will be. I can't remember the exact date people said they would change. (From what I remember they were supposed to be on break right now, but apparently they aren't) You could always send DivinityDoll an email~ they reply pretty fast and are really nice. ^-^

Apparently my Tan Ling is DONE! D: *is shocked*

They don't know whether that is done as in Face-up, sealed, and ready to ship, or done as in the molding is finished. However, they did mention that there was a shipment sent out to them that they wern't aware of and my doll might be in that. This email was recieved on the 16th of July (my birthday coincidentially), so I have yet to hear any recent news on the phantom shipment.

I'm just a little sad, since the only other order of a tan was cancelled just a little while ago, and she was waiting as long as I had been.

 

Officially month 9 since I paid, still no doll. Though apparently he's coming soon.

 

9 months! I'm sorry but that's insane. I think that's got to be a record for the longest waiting time from any company so far.

On another note, I have one of the new sculpts, mine's a 'secret' unnamed sculpt, with his tongue sticking out.

Oh dear... and your first doll too D: My first doll took a long while as well (DOT Camine, took about 2-3 months) but not anywhere close to yours! Well, hopefully the wait will just make you love him more ^^;;

I just removed his faceup (which was extremely poorly done. AA seems to be weird where some of their faceups are decent and some are awful. I asked for him blank anyway and he still arrived with a faceup soo ) and I need to get his eyes bevelled because the resin is really thick and the eyeball fits funny... I'll be sure to take photos after that though, but I'm quite tempted to turn him into a girl XDD
