There are a lot of farms in the area with lots of flowers. It'd be awesome to get my girl between rows of bright flowers, but there's a really deep ditch between the road and the farms so that you can't park on the side of the road. Speaking of flowers, there's a shopping mall with a very big hill covered in flowers that would look so good with my girl laying in them. But how funny and embarrassing would that be if I was standing in the median, butt in the air, photographing a doll? lol!
I think one of these days I'd love to take my dolls to the grocery store and make it look like they're playing hide-and-seek in the apples. I might actually do that the next time I take my 5 year-old niece shopping with me. She'll get really into it, and then I won't feel so silly.
Nearby where I live is a small, slightly impoverished town where everything is fairly old and grungy, somewhat 'ghetto'; in the town, there's this old music store, and it's amazing. The brickwork on the outside of the building, the windows, and the pianos and instruments inside would be so fantastic to photograph my lovelies on...whats more is that I'm sure they'd let me use the store for my photos, so long as I didn't freak out the customers ^^'
there is this alleyway in my town, its all rustic and busted, i love the rustic look! once me and my friends tried to take a photo down one of them but a woman came out yelling about how they alley way was private property and we should stay out. that would make such a nice location for a doll shoot. Dx
I live in a very interesting place: the scenery is dramatic, interesting old towns filled with rustic remnants of bygone days. A perfect place for steampunk shots. Shame I pine for places far removed from my own.
Oh, plenty! I live next to an abbey and it's an amazing building. Father Co is a very gentle man and of course I could ask him if I could do a shoot here, but I'm not comfortable taking pictures when the abbey is still in use. And a few yards from my house there's a castle. Taking pictures of my dolls outside is one of the things I still want to do, but mostly I want to go inside. Each wall is completely decorated with murals dating from the Renaissance. The colours are amazing and it would be perfect for a photoshoot. Unfortunately it is forbidden to bring your camera in.
There's a house across from me that was built in the 40's and is now falling sideways into the trees that surround it. It's old, and covered in moss. I'd LOVE to go inside and take pictures in the sunbeams, but I'd be afraid of falling through the floor!
I live only like two blocks away from the park and like 5 from a HUGE shopping center but neither of those are very good picture places(the park it dry and full of druggies half the time >.<) I wish there was a pretty pond or something in walking distance, but alas, there's not T.T
There is a beautiful mosque near where I live. I would love to do a tasteful photo shoot there but I feel like it would be inappropriate to do so.
I live some... 500 m away from the sea, and there's a forest and tiny lakes and brooks everywhere. Plus, the center is a Medieval town. I wouldn't like to shoot in the center though, because it's always crowded with people ^_^;
We used to live in the countryside, near the sea. And then we moved to a rather noisy, very uninteresting town... Anyway, if there's a place I'd like to take my doll for some photos, that'd be, er, the cemetery. The oldest tomb I've seen dates back to 1890 and there are some mausoleums, and in general the old architecture catches my attention. I don't know if others would find it to be too disrespectful to take photos at the cemetery for leisure, though.
On a major street, there is a space between the lanes. And it has trees, with pretty pink flowers in 'em! And every time I see them, which is like everyday. I just think about how awesome it would be to take pics with the trees in the background. They're so pretty! It would be awesome! :'D
I live in an industrial little town where it rains a lot, so anywhere leafy or dry would be great for me. My aunt and uncle have a wonderful little garden, but I'm too shy to ask them xD As for public places...just down the town would be great. Quite often there're convention things where people come and set up stalls and stands with merchandise from other countries - that would be wonderful to photograph with my girl
I'd really like to take a few pictures of Judas in the "Dom" in Aachen, or in front of it, but...well, it's usually full with tourists D: And I'd also like to take Dok and Hans with me to the old hospital. Would be creepy and amazing at the same time
I live right on a lake and even befor I got my boy I have wanted to take him to the beach for a photoshoot.
You all have great ideas and I think as long as public, or you have permission and it's safe as top priority for both humans and dolls is to be safe you should do it. I myself have a place that sells all types of bricks, rocks and such for walls would love to take pics, but need permission as on Sundays when closed gate is locked. One nice day will ask. Great pics are only as great as your willing to make. Also want to add if people have towns that are great locations for pics please mention as who knows maybe someone reading this will go there. I myself love Padukah KY. The old downtown section which is being restored as well as made condos and such, but the lower section of the buildings as well, as the river area and gazebo and so much more is available for great backgrounds for pics. I will also tell you Sunday is best day to go as few stores are open so public parking which is in center near river is free so you can go and take pics near river, in alley ways in front of stores and such great buildings. Just make sure lighting is ideal for pics, if not wait an hour it can be better.
There really isn't anywhere near my house thats interesting for doll photography... there's a lot of "nature", but its rather... umm... dead? and most of the undergrowth is cleared for fire hazard purposes. "Down town" is crowded and full of pot smoking hippies. they scare me. >_>;;
I'm lucky that near me (well, a 40 minute ride) is a National Park, and my Mom has no problem driving me the hour and a half it would take us to go to the shore. But where I really wanted to take photos was the Harry Potter Exhibition in Chicago. I brought my Harry and Severus all the way from NJ to Chicago, schlepped them into the museum, only to be told that I wasn't allowed to take photos. And they had Alan Rickman's robe and everything......
I have 3 places that my sister just showed me today that I fell in love with. 1.) A bluff that looks over a huge river, fields and trees and all of God's other wonderful creations ^_^ 2.)This really creepy broken-down abandoned house in the woods. It looks like something out of a horror movie yet it has something really beautiful about it. 3.)Underneath a bridge that goes over the river, the walls are covered with grafitti and contrasts so well against the water I don't have my doll yet, but once I get her I will definately take some pics at these places
It's a shame more people haven't made suggestions of where they would love to take pics. I am looking for mention of area as well as I travel and would hate to miss a good location. One of my favs in travels is Zion National Park, love the rocks, water ways and so on.
ooh theres so many not all near me and mostly historic in the uk! lol theres leeds castle which also have wonderful gardens, warwick castle would also make a great back drop. in leamington spa there is a park, i im sorry i dont know what its called, its just outside the twon centre its so pretty and has so many places that would make a great photo back drop!
Where I love there is a 1/3 scale model of Stonehenge. Unfortunately it is on front of a building on a relatively busy street. I'd never have guts to go there for a shoot myself.
I find myself sometimes looking at places and thinking 'that would be awesome to take pictures in' usually they're in people's back or front lawns though. D: there's also this one bridge, it's beautiful in a steam punk industrial kind of way. but still kind of natury. it's in a quiet park near my old highschool. unfortunately a lot of drug deals and stuff go on there. so I wouldn't want some hardcore gangster drug dealer walking by while I (a guy who is scrawny and nerdy) am taking pictures of dolls and have him beat the crap outa me D:
There's a tearoom near Warwick Castle called Thomas Oken Tearoom, they use English Rose crockery which goes perfect with Yuki's new outfit, hopefully in the summer i'll take Yuki (and possibly her sister Haru ) and get her to pose for some pictures (Yuki can be very stubborn and will not pose for me , she can be such a little drama queen, but I would not change her for the world).
There's this building near me, some kind of church I believe. But I'm not sure if I'd really be allowed to take dolly pictures with it. >>;
Okay i know it's absolutely no where near me but i have always wanted to photograph dolls in japan ,_, Other than that there really isn't much where i live :c The closest city to me is 4 hours away, and i'd love to take pictures at the beach :3 The river here is disgusting ><
I can think of a lot of different amazing places that would be great for pictures all around my town. They are very populated tho so its the factor of fear playing into it. I am definitely going to try tho once my tan adela arrives. Hopefully the drought hasnt taken its final toll on all the beauty until she does come tho!!
That is unbelievably awesome. @_@ I would so travel there, just to do photoshoots!! If I am ever even kind of near Utah, I'm totally going to have to take a detour.
I have traveled and been lucky for at least the past 4 years to take one doll or other on trip. Sadly I figure once I sell a doll not to bother keeping pics because of location. So now I do. So although some trips have a doll I no longer own, I did love it enough to take on trip. Here are some of my flicker albums where I take pics near & far with dolls. http://www.flickr.com/photos/31019480@N02/sets/72157631007749796/ This is most recent & was with my #1 guy Shigure a Dollstown Hue I have had now for over 4 years. http://www.flickr.com/photos/31019480@N02/sets/72157629241720938/ This is my tinies. Most are gone, but Zoey the PKF Zoe is still here and most of these are all around my home. http://www.flickr.com/photos/31019480@N02/sets/72157624448347307/ Due to being so worried that something would happen to Shigure's body, he borrowed another DT boy body for this trip. This was part for hubby's hobby 3D photography and then a getaway part in lower OH near Hocking Hills. http://www.flickr.com/photos/31019480@N02/sets/72157619992150285/ My boy in Canada on the eastern part. http://www.flickr.com/photos/31019480@N02/sets/72157627146984007/ My #1 guy and a tiny I no longer have. I think because she was easier to get out of bag then him. He didn't get photographed as much. Which created my rule one doll only as never wanted to not take pics of the doll I brought again. Look or don't look but you will see at times I really strive for size, but most times it's the whole adventure of the photos and not weather doll looks right size.
at my college, there's a huge pond with fake swans. it's sort of scummy-looking, but really pretty, too!
I hope it is all right to bring this thread back from the abyss. I enjoyed reading it and wanted to add my part. I live in a rural area. On a hill near here is a strangely-shaped barn that was once used for cattle and has lots of long corridors and lofts with gates and barricades between, with peeling paint and a lush overgrown courtyard area; somewhat dungeon-like on the inside and like a pretty jigsaw puzzle from out. It is unused, and over the years I have ridden up there countless times. But, the land it is on was recently purchased as a large parcel by a vineyard company who is planning some drastic changes to the area (300-foot diameter pond smack in the middle of the hayfield across from us, anyone?) and I am hoping so much that it doesn't get torn down. Bit of my childhood, right there. ;_; I suppose just in case, I need to get up there soon to take doll pictures. The only thing that has stopped me so far is that it's a real jaunt on foot and I am SO not comfortable riding a horse with a bag of dolls and camera + tripod in tow! I think I just need to suck it up and hike! My friend also has a creeptastic three-story dairy barn where we shot an intentionally pathetic horror movie. It seems to have been partially torn down and rebuilt and added onto several times over the course of many decades, so it's like a labyrinth. There's a door that goes into a storage room with another hole in the back of it, and then ANOTHER gaping square chasm in the back that actually goes down to the foundation. -shiver- It's like the gate to hell. It would be perfect for some sort of crypt photoshoot, but you'd have to bring in a lot of special lighting because it is absolutely black in there, as well as be careful for your dolly, because it's filled with crumbling concrete, dirt and rusty stuff. I can just imagine some sort of zombie or mummy doll crawling out of that place. If someone were to do jerky stopmotion there it would literally be nightmare fuel. I tend to be attracted to ruined buildings and nature settings more than anything. I'm sure there are plenty of other locations around here that aren't coming to mind at the moment. Certainly once you get into Portland (one-hour drive from here) you have old churches, parks, interesting statues and monuments, bridges... but then you have to deal with people in your shots or not being able to focus because you're being watched.
@Havra Wow that is nice to hear!! ^^ I really wish to visit places like that one day~ ( I really like rural areas!! Seems adventurous~) and wow I love ruins and old buildings .. for me , my place is in the city, the city sucks so bad. Almost no more parks, only malls.. so the only place I can take picture without getting my dolls full of pollution smoke is in the bathroom window (it's really big), and on the bed -.-"
Not near me anymore, but when I was a kid I went on a trip to the U.P. of Michigan (I lived in the lower peninsula) and we went waterfall-hopping. I have photos from back then that would make for absolutely, positively stunning backdrops for my doll kiddos. The Great Lakes also have some seriously amazing areas around them that would be great places for doll photos. I'm going home to visit in October, so maybe I will bundle up and seize the opportunity!
A railroad track near my home. It is actually not an active railroad. But did you know that it is illegal to take photos on it? It is indeed trespassing. There are signs that said so, so I've never done it and never will. I can take photos of it as backdrop with my doll from a distance but dolls are small so it wouldn't really show up as a railroad that way. ^^
I got this landscape near my house that is just beautiful Well it's the place when I take pictures as a backdrop, they are just filled with green grass and a couple of wooden fence here and there but the best thing was that you can't really see any cityscape there which would make excellent background for fantasy photoshoot or natural photoshoot
I work for a hotel built in 1901 and it's sister hotel 1902, the west baden hotel has this great garden and huge free standing dome! We are always so busy I wouldn't get a human free area for long enough to pose dolls without getting odd looks.
; m ; It's great how everyone take your doll to a nice location.... I often take her picture on my computer desk or in the front yard. orz I feel uneasy taking her outside my house, especially when people look at my doll like I'm a creep.
Ugh not at all. I live in a scrub desert and to be honest, it is not for me or my dolls. The setting doesn't suit their stories at all and I usually have to take pictures so close so you can't tell what is happening in the background. Also the sun here is up very early and sets very late especially in the summer and is very harsh. And it's always windy here. I've experienced this problem recently. As soon as the sun comes up, the wind starts and as soon as the sun goes down, the air pressure changes and the wind stops. It's like no one is allowed to take pictures here.
In the nearest city there are lots of old houses with big gardens, some completely abandoned... That would be really cool I believe
There is a very beautiful waking trail behind my apartment complex that has a perfect woodsy nook for doll pictures. There are just so many people I've never had the guts. Maybe on a cloudy day before a storm, it would make the pictures look more intense and there won't be as many people
I live somewhere in between two very photogenic yards. One has a handmade fireplace and the remains of a hut built from tarp and wood in it. (I did get one photoshoot there, because we help out the woman who lives there with everyday things like yardwork, and occasionally sit her dogs for her. The grunge style photos I've posted in the Games thread belong to this set) The other has a very well-kept garden with lots of artistic landscaping. Gothic-esque metal gates, SD-sized benches, bricks and red stone inlays... Sadly, the people living there, while nice enough humans, I suppose, are very protective of their property, and I highly doubt that they would take well to my photographing a bunch of strange little resin creatures on or with their ornaments, permission or none. That being said, while nothing to compare to the majesty of a place like Colorado, Montana, or a wonderful moor, slope, or seaside/beach/waterfall, I do think that there are a relatively large amount of places in my home area that would make good BJD photo habitats, at least for fully clothed dolls. Most of them are simply limited by the location of the sun. For example, one of the local libraries has a striking front stoop with sculpted flower vases and a fenced-off garden, both of which they utilize every year. I do have shots of Thaévyn and some smaller friends in one pose there, but timing them was difficult, as I took them on a sunny day when the clouds kept moving conveniently and inconveniently. Then there are other places, like a large number of allies, or a house that burned that is technically off-limits, that would be more difficult to procure access to, at least without drawing unwanted attention. Fortunately, I'm quirky enough that, whether true or not, I'd like to think that carrying large anatomically correct dolls around and taking their pictures is perhaps the least of my problems.
I will soon be moving to a small village in the south-east of England, think country lanes, picture perfect cottages, every stereotype of a quintessential English village, I can't wait to get some good photos out of this.
A nursery not far from us is situated on an old farm. The original buildings remain along with enhancements such as a large fishpond, various garden ornaments and paths through the plants being sold. There is a gift shop in an old barn, with resident cats, and there are chicken coops with chickens plus several farm animals. It's all very rustic and hodgepodge and reminds me of my grandparents' farm. My youngest daughter had her senior portraits taken there so I don't think they would object to my bringing my dolls for photos, I've just never gotten around to it.
There is a really interesting serpentarium in downtown Wilmington NC that resembles an ancient tomb or pyramid like from the Indiana Jones movies on the inside. The exhibits of living cobras, mambas, boas, Gaboon vipers and so on are in lighted glass habitats while the rest of the interior is dark and cool and very quiet. I would LOVE to take my Soom Ignim and photograph her with this as a backdrop. I think she'd be fabulous as an ancient cat headed goddess amongst the live serpents. My sister is old school chums with the explorer naturalist who owns the exhibit. I hope he will giver her permission as long as we use the right lighting as to not disturb the snakes. This is a goal for the next few months. Another place is this wonderfully old (over 200 years) and very historic cemetery in Wilmington NC. It is filled with huge angels and other statues and mausoleums and has a huge history of haunting. The television program "Sleepy Hollow" is filmed in Wilmington and often uses this graveyard for its creepy horseman scenes. I did a vampiric photo shoot there last year with my sister that can be found in the photo stories of DoA under "Daywalker". Would love to do that again with another theme...maybe the Horseman. It is in several parts. It starts herehttp://www.denofangels.com/forums/showthread.php?539022-Daywalker-Vampire-Theme-PG13-Part-1-(Minimee-Brad-Pitt-and-Luna-Tamer)&highlight=daywalker
There is a Poppy Reserve near where I live. When the poppies are in season, it's an amazing place for doll pics.
I really want to take pictures at this really old opera house that's downtown, but they have small business using it during the days so I don't want to get in anyways way. But those sprawling staircases and old wooden carvings...
Well, there is a park near where I live, it is soo pretty around Autumn, with all of the maple leaves. And there is a forest just a walk away (mainly consists of pine trees and spruce trees and a few birch trees here and there) . Also, there is an old castle (palace?) which is actually quite close (~20min drive away). The palace itself is beautiful, and there is a rose garden , it just looks amazing when the roses are blooming (but that palace & garden are usually filled with visitors, especially around the time when roses bloom, which can make things awkward).
Out where I live there are some really cool old cemeteries from the 1800s. They have really unusual tombstones and some pretty elaborate mausoleums. They're really old and way out in the country, I could probably go and take pictures without anyone caring, but I still don't really feel comfortable doing it.
There's a house a few blocks away that has a lovely large dollhouse beneath a shade tree on the front lawn. I'd love to ask permission to use it for a shoot someday!
There's a property in the city where I work (not where I live ) that used to be the home of an old couple. They collected all sorts of pieces of history from the city's past: old rail cars, the first (outdoor!) jail cell, old electrical and utility equipment, old signs, and more. There are dozens of huge old azalea bushes on the property, beautiful trees, and best of all it's open to the public. An amazing spot, to be sure!
I would love to take my dolls to an aquarium. It has such a cool atmosphere and it would make for interesting lighting. I told my friends that next time we go, we'll have to take our dolls with us. Another place that would be fun for photography would be Hearst Castle. Even if I can't get pictures of the inside with my dolls, it would still be amazing to take pictures out in the garden and by the pools.
I live by a large lake with really gorgeous birch trees and lakeside plants. I would definitely love to take my dollies there for photos when I get them in.
There is a forest in the middle of my university with a heritage bridge over a really cool pond and it looks magical I'd love to take my dolls there and pop 'em on the bridge or near the trees or anything. ;u;
Sorelliena that is such a beautiful photo . As for where I'm located that can be used as backdrop photos, there are allot of parks near my place. One has a nice lake, but I'm too worried about all the birds that live there. They are quite messy and well bird poop : / . South Australia does have a wonderful Botanic Gardens and Japanese gardens in the city that I'm planning to do some bjd photo shoots at . Another place I'd love to take the bjd flock for photos is the state wine country areas (Clair and Barossa). Early Autumn/Fall in those areas is magical for photography . Here are some photos of the Adelaide Botanic Gardens in South Australia ^^. 20150912_115305 by Isabelle Rue, on Flickr 20141223_133619 by Isabelle Rue, on Flickr 20141223_133518 by Isabelle Rue, on Flickr 20141223_132855 by Isabelle Rue, on Flickr
I'd like to take some photos at Casa Loma in downtown Toronto. It might be a great place for medieval or fantasy characters. Then there's also the McLaughlin Estate in Oshawa, and Dundurn Castle in Hamilton. They'd both be great for dolls in Rococo fashions.
There is an office building that is located close to my mothers house and I think it would make an awesome back drop. I am going to try to take my Sionna down there for a photo shoot in the next week or 2...
There is a really beautiful park near me with nice trees and flowers. Unfortunately it is right next to a University so there are always so many people there, and considering most of my doll's outfits are just lingerie sets that might be a bit awkward! I'm also hoping to take some pictures when the cherry blossoms bloom in Spring because there are so many of those trees around me.
Considering how both my workplace and my current place of residence has a shortage of good public gardens, it's pretty difficult for me to think up of a place I'd like to photograph an oriental-themed doll in. Although there's a waterfall park nearby it hasn't always been so clean and who knows what stuff will attach to the doll if I'm not careful.
There are countless places I'd love to go once my girl has an outfit I'm truly proud of showing off... There's a park that used to be the grounds of a private mansion, now free and open to the public, which has a Japanese garden and waterfall, and this GORGEOUS huge cemetery. It's got so many wrought iron fences all over the place, it's absolutely lovely! We've even got an authentic Tudor mansion... I'd love to take photos there...
