A list of all doll conventions? (ask your, "is there a Doll Con in X?" questions here)

If you see a doll show that's indicated as being sponsored by a local doll club, be sure to contact the club first and ask what kinds of dolls they have at the show, and if it's a show only of complete dolls or with supplies too. I went to a Long Island "show" last weekend by a local, long-time club and it was all sales of vintage dolls, porcelain toddlers and reborns, barbies, female-only Tonners and some AG, Chrissy, etc. Very little in clothing (mostly used Barbie) and 1 wig seller who only had bad quality large wigs. When I mentioned to various vendors that I had ball-jointed dolls, nobody said what are they, and everybody seemed to recognize the term, but there was zero presence there.

Makes doing the trek to the Texas doll show seem attractive!

 

You can check out Doll Show USA, which has a listing of doll shows throughout the country (Ohio has several). You can click on the states that interest you on the home page, and it will show you whatever they have in their database. It's definitely not a complete listing, and some of the shows are not particularly good, to put it nicely...but it's a place to start. A lot of the shows have a linked website, so you can at least get an idea of what you might be looking at if you go there.

Edit: If you want to go to an awesome doll convention and don't mind a long drive, you might want to look into Doll North. I live in Columbus, OH, and I'm thinking about making the trip this year. It's about 6.5 hours away from me, but I'd drag my daughter for company, so not too bad.

 

Hey everyone, so I am pretty new to the BJD community and I was curious is there any conventions near New England or Boston? East coast?

 

As far as I know, there's no dedicated BJD conventions around Boston. The community here generally has an annual meet at Anime Boston (which takes place outside the actual convention center so you don't need to buy a convention badge to participate), and sometimes there are BJD panels at the con itself. I think there might be some smaller local cons that might also have BJD panels/meets?

We do have monthly meetups, however, if you're interested in getting to know local people. The next one's for February 9th.

 

I go to anime Boston every year

 

It’s not a doll convention but we are hoping to have a doll panel and/or doll meetup at Tekko in Pittsburgh, PA this year.

 

There is usually a doll meet at YoumaCon in Detroit every November. If you're in north-east Ohio, you could check out meets in the Michigan BJD Facebook group - MI BJD. There's a meet on Feb. 9th.

We typically have a BJD meetup at Anime Boston. I hosted the meetup last year in the Prudential mall seating area by that new pizza booth. It's really who wants to dedicate themselves to organizing something specific. Anime Boston, in the past, has had various BJD panels and occasional artists/vendors selling dolls/doll related things, but it really varies from year to year.

Does anyone know anything in the Kansas/Missouri area besides nakacon meetups? There is a com group but they only seem to get 4 or so people. All the doll shows here seem to be reborn only,

 

I tried doing a general search, then tried checking the links suggested for convention calendars, but couldn’t find anything specifying if any of the shows in Florida involve BJDs.

Does anyone know if there is any BJD events in Florida?

Nothing formal or an all-bjd/doll event unless you go up to the Toronto area for Doll North. Anime Boston has doll panels, it appears, and a number of anime conventions have begun having a doll presence besides their regular activities/interests.

You can check out local inclusive doll clubs or societies, who often have an annual "day-trip" doll event. But try to find photos first, or ask if they'll have anything related to BJDs. I finally made the annual January event of the society in my region (hadn't been to one for 20 years), and while it filled a full hotel ballroom, it was still only the usual porcelain/Tonner/barbie/antique dolls that were there last time I went. And there was this somewhat dismissive response when I mentioned BJDs (despite vendors/attendees overheard complaining that fewer people seemed interested in dolls these days... Hello...?).

Hello, how I can find local communities of BJD owners in Europe? I'll be in Italy at the end of August, and take my doll) So I would like to meet some locals with dolls, have walks and chat) I'll appreciate if someone can give me any clue how to meets another BJD owners.

 

There are no doll conventions in Germany. There were a few people (including me) who looked into the whole thing of hosting an event/convention, but a) thats way to expensive and b) you need an official permit, which you only get if you're running an actual business (Gewerbeschein) :/ But if you're looking for meetups, there are a few planned over at Dollicted.

 

Those who will be in Edmonton, Alberta, Canada ... Animethon will be having a doll meet up on Sunday, Aug 11. im hoping to get some more details so i can post a thread for it... im moving there and just in time to attend too!!!

 

Do doll conventions normally feature a lot of bjds or is it mostly like.. collectible dolls without moving joints? I went to a Doll & Bear show a while back and there weren't a lot of things for bjds.

 

'Regular' doll conventions mostly feature teddies, baby dolls/reborns, artist figurines and/or porcelain dolls (and maybe repaints like barbie fullsets?); anime conventions have the non-moveable anime figurines. BJDs in itself are a very niche category of dolls, I haven't seen them on any 'normal' doll convention so far.

But I think the 'doll conventions' here mentioned are specifically mean for bjd

I haven't been, but there's a regular event (?) called I Doll, which is held in 7 cities across the country. It seems mostly to be a sort of trade show, for selling clothes, wigs, etc., but there are also workshops and sets for photoshoots. I hope I can go to the one nearby in February.

Dolk Japan also hosts Dollism Tokyo, which again I haven't been to, but it also seems to be mostly about selling things.

There doesn't seem to be any 2020 conventions on the calendar at all...

 

So I stumbled upon this International Doll and Teddy Show being held in Orlando, FL, this year: June 11th through 14th. It's usually other dolls, especially Reborns based on a couple of YouTube videos I found from last year, but they have a page about a BJD fashion show event they seem to plan on holding for the first time ever so I figured maybe that might be worth mentioning. The description is kind of... Interesting, but it's local so hey.

There are 2 doll shows in Naperville and 2 at Kane County Fairgrounds, by Karla Moreland Presents. The Chi Town Dollz BJD club has a table at these shows. Not BJD dolls, but another doll from Asia, there is a Pullip event that has been going on for a few/several years in Elk Grove Village called PUDDLE. I've never attended it. Front Page

i know melbourne has BJD Emporium. i found out late last year, too late to go unfortunately. from what i can tell, it looks to be a smallish event, but it did only just start up again.i don't know of any others though.
i haven't seen any regular old doll shows mention (resin) bjds, but i've found it hard in general to find detailed info about doll shows in the first place. here's a list of 2020 doll shows i found: Australia Doll Show Dates

I don’t remember for sure, but I thought there was one at Dragoncon before.

 

I don't think they have it anymore. I have a faint remembrance of people in my area talking about that.

 

Doll Con near Texas or generally near the south?

 

We are starting a doll convention, DollCon Dallas, in February 2022. There is also ABJDC in Austin. The dates have moved around some because of the pandemic, but I think they may be having one this year.

Yup, sorry, my post was from January of last year, aka "The Before Times". Also prior to that they removed any mention of BJD stuff so I guess it's completely off the table regardless. RIP.
