I haven't used liquid frisket for so long time and i remember it drying in my brush... so i ended making a mess XD

 

Darn, I missed the entry deadline. Well, good luck to everyone!

 

lol here i was thinking i was special for using watercolors because i had this firm thought in my head that everyone else was going to use colored pencils or markers xD oh well. i'm excited to see how everyone else used the paint 8]
i almost never use watercolor, so it was a challenge for me [i'm so use to acrylic] especially since i also printed/painted onto regular white computer paper.

I considered watercolor, but the paper I have would have wrinkled terribly as it dried and I just can't stand that for some reason, it really bugs me. And my watercolor paper is currently in a box on its way to my college in the mail, so I just used my good old standby.

Guys, please don't talk about the materials used on your piece here in the thread. Remember that the pieces will be posted anonymously, so no there should be no identifying information. You can discuss the materials used after the contest is over, and then compare notes. Thanks!

Wowsa! I loved seeing all of the different interpretations of the same image! There are some really talented artists on this forum.

 

Oh man, I don't stand a chance XD But I'm loving the variety! These are some awesome coloring jobs! I've narrowed it down to about... 6. No way I'll be able to choose before I crash, though (It's after 2am here!) Sleep first, decisions later...

Congrats to the winners! Those entries were really stunning.

I used paper and water colors for mine (it's #66 for those who want to look). I made the clothes entirely with cut pieces of origami paper, including the ruffles which I made by hand. I added on these awesome paper roses I found, and some seed beads and golden chains (which are barely visible in the pic T_T) to accent the details. I decoupaged the whole thing on a box, which you can't tell at all from the pic X3 I did the whole box from scratch though, haha, I even painted it

I'm glad I went to so much work though, it's nice to have something to keep after the fact, even if I didn't win. Now I just have to keep my eye out to see when those journals come out (might have to get me one of those ^.~)

 

Wow, I can't believe I actually won something! *blushes* I've tried and entered so many contest lately (not just on DoA) and its amazing to finally win something.

GrowlyGal That's absolutely amazing! I love how you did the clothes and those ruffles are amazing!!

 

Oh my gosh, I just checked out the thread! I seriously can't believe I won! Everyone did really fantastic work for this contest. I loved how many interpretations there were; I made a little "oooooooh" every time I looked at the next entry in the voting list. Wonderful work, everyone!

This was also an extra special surprise for me because today is my birthday. XD

Aw, I can't believe I didn't even know this contest was going on! O.o I may not be good at drawing, but if you give me a crayon? lol

Congrats to the winners though! I didn't see one entry I didn't like! I hope you'll have more concerts like these in the future, I love coloring! (I'm still gonna print one out for myself though!)

 

*blushes* Thank you so much for the compliments ^.^ The only thing I worked harder on than the ruffles was the roses, which I eventually caved and bought X3 (guess who can't make an origami rose? haha)

Keelerleah, the wings on yours are phenomenal! The second I saw yours and realized you had somehow done all that by hand I knew yours would be in the top three ^.^;;;

I adore angelivy's entry too, such a creative idea! I wouldn't mind having an actual doll based off her take on the mad hatter

I'll prolly end up getting journals of all three if they aren't too pricey X3 I'm not surprised at all that these three won, although I have to say there were so many beautiful entries there's probably about 10 that easily could have won!

 

Oh no, I didn't get my vote in! But seriously, those who won were 3 of my 6 top choices, lol! Congrats, you guys!

As for mine, I went crazy with cutting & pasting. I wanted them to seem to be floating over a swirl of flowers from all 4 seasons. I colored them with the same chalk pastels & watercolor pencils I use for practicing faceups! I was going for soft, muted tones to contrast the vividly-colored background. The final result was actually rather more 3D than the photographed finish, but I couldn't quite capture it on my camera. Still, I had a lot of fun putting it together ^_^ Thanks for the inspiration!

(I can definitely see the winning entry on a notebook!) :3 I really enjoyed looking at the entries because it reminded my very much about BJDS: everyone starts with the same base ( a very beautiful one at that in both cases!) and it ends up totally unique!!

I wonder what's going into that lovely box, GrowlyGal! That seems like a fun project. I have a few boxes I put junk in & it'd be great to decorate them instead of advertising the shoe company lol. Ooh, Purgatori, it's fun to hear what your process/thinking was; ^o^ there is a very dream-like quality in your entry.

Thanks so much for the compliments ^.^ I intend to add a few touches to the box I wasn't able to finish in time for the contest, like a latch for the front, and lining on the inside. Once it's lined I plan of using it for doll clothes and accessories

I got the idea to do it from a project my mom and I did a while back where we took boxes and decoupaged pictures of angels on them, with a poem on the back. I did this one with my favorite song lyrics on the back just as something special ^.^;;

 

That is so cool Growlygal. Makes me want to use my image and make my own clothes box. You've might have started something here. lol

 

Actually the one posted as "mine" wasn't mine. I was supposed to be #9 There was a mix up. It happens so I hold no hard feelings. None what so ever. Anyway I still wanted to show it off so here it is.


Anyway I used Prismacolor pencil and the background was a combination of prismacolor and marker. The stars were added in via white gel pen. I had a lot of fun coloring this and looking at all the other entries.

I was going to ask, since Armeleia and Aimee created the original image and have the rights to the linework, but would it be alright for us to use our own submission if we wanted to have a journal made for ourselves separate from the forums?

I don't mean in a mass-produced sort of way, I just thought it'd be nice to have my image on a journal for me and my girlfriend since I colored it in a way that was significant to us, so it would only be one or two.

I just didn't want to go out and use the image without asking first, since Armeleia and Aimee may not like the thought of us using their image without their permission.

 

Ooh, I love your pic, Moon Lightning ^.^ That would look lovely on a box! Maybe you could do the decoupaged part with cool pictures of stars and moons or something! That would look really neat

I'm flattered so many people like my idea! Maybe I'll open up a shop X3
