7 Deadly Sins of BJD Collecting

Let's see if I can do this...

Greed: Probably either of my Dollshe boys (Husky and 2nd-hand Haute Hound), both were in the $600s including shipping.

Wrath: Hmmmm I'd say at the moment it's Ed. Idk if I wanna rework her but something isn't quite right.

Gluttony: I do have a large collection of eyes lol. But it might also be doll boxes? Like, I keep all my company boxes for storage/transport reasons.

Lust: Definitely my Minifee Shiwoo, Shiwoo. He was my first BJD and the one who started my Shiwoo hoard lol.

Pride: Probably Hoozuki. I'm really happy I decided to make a character doll of him.

Sloth: Probably redoing faceups/restringing/cleaning. But it's the middle of winter so faceups are kind of a no-go atm.

Envy: My grail 2.0 would be the Luts Delf Art Smoky Quartz Siwoo (Shiwoo). There are only 5 in the world so it's a helluva long shot that I'll ever find one for sale.

Greed: My Dollshe King Corey, Mundei. Honey skin caramel brown resin, L4 body...he was a pricey boy (although I lucked out getting him during a 30% sale with an additional coupon applied to my order. still my costliest overall).

Wrath: Zelle, or Mako maybe? With Zelle, it more so her character in general (she's a complicated girl). As for Mako...He's just been having a lot of trouble sticking with one body. He's currently on a Doll Leaves Body (previously was on the Popodoll 68cm), but I'm planning on either getting another Popodoll in normal for him, or maybe a Ringdoll body.

Gluttony: Um...I'm amassing a few extra heads after reshelling a couple characters recently. I also have extra urethane eyes just sitting around not being put to use.

Lust: This seems to fluctuate from day to day, but right now I'm infatuated with Tahno's new look (just reshelled him as a Dikadoll Floyer from his previous Loongsoul Pharaur head). He looks even more like the character now, and I'm so happy about that

Pride: Tossup between Tahno's new look and Kismet, my MNF Mika. The faceup and tattoo work on Kismet is amongst some of my better work, and I love how it turned out.

Sloth: Korra needs a new yarn wig, and I'm procrastinating on getting it done. I'm reshelling Tauli, and she'll also need a new wig (and faceup), and I can't get up the motivation to work on her.

Envy: Doll Family-H Bei Lie fullset. It's the only fullset grail I have. I just love that boy's overall look for some reason

 

Greed: Nimune my sapphire blue Dollshe Ausley love.

Wrath: Well probably my soom Beryl head. I am having trouble getting her body and face and everything the way I picture her in my mind. Also I had given her a name, but it got ruined so I'm struggling to give her a proper name too.

Gluttony: Last year I bought a lot of dolls/parts.

Lust: Right now my favorite is Nimune. Dollshe's sculpting is so amazing. Couldn't really recommend ordering because you just don't know how long you will wait, but I love her so much I ordered a Amanda beauty to go with her.

Pride: aside from Nimune my jewel is my Lillian she's the little unicorn version.

Sloth: : I hate shoes. But to make a complete outfit some of these dolls will need shoes.

Envy: I can get a bit envious when folks make it look so easy to pull together a look. But its really not! So I have to remind myself of that. My grail doll right now I doubt I will ever have or even see in person. That is Emilie Steele's (Midnoir) Rini. I'm so in love with that doll, of course she's out of my league so to speak($$$$).

 

Greed: My most expensive doll was $1000 I think. I didn’t keep her though.

Wrath: I’ve actually been thinking about this all weekend. Unoa Rowan. They are too expensive for my taste and on top of that their thigh joint looks like it’s s**t, but they prettyyyy I’ve wanted SD sized unoa for YEARS and now that they are easily available I still can’t get them! So actually yeah, I’m a bit mad xD;
No one *really* pissed me off in my current collection because it’s too small, and I have a tendency to give up on dolls very quickly when things don’t work out *cough*

Gluttony: I don’t make BIG orders at once, but over the years I have accumulated a fair amount of clothes. I have like 3 drawers’ worth (one for tops, one for bottoms, and one for shoes). I am slowly getting through them and trying to part with some though, because a lot of it I never actually used

Lust: I don’t really have a favourite at the moment I only have one doll that is complete so it’s not really fair :P

Pride: My narae60 was a good find (pretty rare), and she did require some restoration on my part and I am so far proud of how far she’s come! But I’ll hold off final judgement until she’s painted :-B

Sloth: I refuse to send my dolls away for faceup, and when I do one well I’m really proud. But I don’t actually like doing faceups I’m excited when the weather is good for painting, but then i grumble and swear while doing it. I want to skip to the finished product!!

Envy: I very recently fell in love with Unoss. She rarely comes up for sale, and when she does she tend to be in the 4 digits. So I’m not actually gonna get her ever, sadly. I am super envious of those who DO have one though! I live vicariously through their pictures :P

 

Greed: Vissarion - Islanddoll Veranoen fullset, somewhere around 600 USD all told. Not awful for this hobby, but pretty expensive nonetheless. Most expensive on my wishlist is a 2DDoll Lan. I know I should go smaller and cheaper... I know this, but...

Wrath: Dagny! My Luts Lemon. She was my first doll and a gift, but it took her years to get a solid character, and even now I tend to ignore her the most... She also has my least favourite body out of the lot. Seam-lines everywhere! Meh jointing! In desperate need of restrining! But I'm not going to part with her. Just keep hacking at her!

Gluttony: I just bought almost 200 USD of mostly clothing for one doll. Nadya (Dikadoll Monica/Doll Leaves hybrid) is going to end up with all the prettiful clothes. I keep having to smack my hand at the fabric store because they have so many patterns that would be perfect on her. But no, Mayhem! Resist! Or at least wait until all those new clothes come in!

Modern girl dolls are the best to shop for, though.

Lust: I..... have to choose? Oh man. Uhhm... No, I can't. Favourite in each size group: Chuolong (Islanddoll Altair); Otakar (Spiritdoll Lemongrass); Nadya (Dikadoll Monica); Vissarion (Islanddoll Veranoen.) Now never tell the others I said any of that!

Pride: Hmm... I'm pretty proud of all my dolls. Even the ones I feel like I could (and will) do better on. I keep being struck by how perfect Nadya is though. I feel like even half-done, she's the realised version of my mental image of the character.

Sloth: Dagny's needed to be restrung since like 2014, so that should tell you something right there! I'm terrible at basic maintenance. People don't get shoes remotely on time. I haven't redone Otakar's unfinished, chipped, six year old faceup because I'm scared of not loving the new one as much. Soujou STILL doesn't have even one set of clothes...

Envy: I don't have a true grail anymore, but man am I envious of those people with large, well-organized collections...!

 

Greed: My two Ringdoll fullsets cost the most in total, but I would say Kestrel is my most expensive because he was over $700 blank.

Wrath: Oh, definitely Aramy. He's gorgeous and he's shelling my favorite OC I've ever created, but he's given me the most pain of all my dolls. I hate his body, had to replace his hands, his wig refuses to stay on, he sucks at posing, his eyelashes keep falling out, etc etc....

Gluttony: When I buy from Taobao, I tend to splurge. There's just so many awesome clothes and accessories (and they seem cheap until it all adds up...lmao).

Lust: Even after several years, my first boy Qinzhe still owns my heart. I mean, I love them all, but he's the one who got me into the hobby, and his body and posing still remain among my favorites in my entire collection. I also feel like he has the most versatile face.

Pride: I'm most proud of Heron right now, because I feel like he's the one who's come together looking the closest to the character in my head.

Sloth: ...everything? Changing outfits definitely ranks up there, though. I keep meaning to but some of my guys have been in the same outfit for more than a year now... And I haven't restrung anyone yet even though several of them need it.

Envy: My grail is Luts French Knight Abadon, whose ordering period I juuuuuuuuuust missed. I also wouldn't object to Commander of Blue Knights Abadon if I got the chance to get him. I guess I just have a thing for Abadon in armor?

 

Greed:



Ollie, my Island Doll/Granado hybrid. Expensive body + dark resin= high price that took forever to save. And the shipping.

Wrath: Hmm, hard to say. Usually my frustrations fade as I figure out handling. For example, Elliot drove me wild until I figured out he can only sit slouched, and Gobbie was a pain until I finally sueded her. Ollie's weird legs remain annoying though.

Gluttony: This hobby in general? The dolls themselves have definitely been the the most expensive part, and after all this time, they still hardly have anything.

Lust:



I don't have a favorite. Really! But for the sake of this question, I'll give the spot to Elliot, because I consider him my first and also because it would be buffer against his insecurity (the others wouldn't care nearly as much).

Pride: Ollie. She used to be the only Sparkle on the forum, and I would not be surprised if there was no other doll with her exact combo in the world. When it comes to people owning the same sculpt I don't mind, but I do have a bit of a hipster in me, I guess.

Sloth: Everything. I have a two year old wig project, a sweater dress I only just finished in about the same time frame, and many, many backburner projects. Some of those are due to money though. Not all, but some.

Envy: I've always liked her, but I put MDR Fang off my list because her head would be too big for what I want. Now her head is smaller and I both dread and anticipate her next order period. If she is available in the color I want... Well, there might be a new doll in the Greed slot. Also, the boypink muscle body. It's so beautiful. I already have a bunch of things waiting for it, but the creator is dealing with a lot of life stuff and doesn't have much free time. That's fine by me, I still need to save for both!

 

Greed: Your most expensive doll. --> Volks Michele. I got him in 2013 with the thought that he would be the most I'd ever pay for a doll and so far I haven't found one I want to pay more for! yay!

Wrath: A doll you have a love-hate relationship with. --> My Migidoll Ryu. By far. The sheer number of bodies this guy has had, the problems I had with him when I first got him (nothing to do with the transaction, it was all my own noobness), the blood that was drawn. My decision to reshell him that fizzled and died when I realized I couldn't do it XD If you look up Love-Hate relationships with inanimate objects there is a picture of me and David.

Gluttony: This could be splurging on a big shopping haul, a picture of your large collection, or picture of your horde of urethane eyes, etc. --> I have pic of my (large) collection, but my flickr is still locked so as soon as I sign up for prime (ugh) I'll post it here

Lust: Your most favorite doll you own & why. --> John. I love everything about him and he's just my favorite (Ringdoll K on a Dollmore model and Soom Jointed hands. He currently has 6 heads)

Pride: A doll you are proud of. It could be a reward for a real life goal, one you crafted the perfect look for, one you scrimped and saved for, a rare doll, a restoration project that turned out well, etc. --> I have two and no one can talk me out of it. John is my first one just because I love him and think he's perfect, but also because I modded several of his heads and I love the results.
My second is a very modded doll I turned into the Death of the Family Joker. I'm pretty proud of all that work.

Sloth: Something you don't like doing, or are lazy about. For example: restringing or other maintenance, brushing wigs, dusting, completing the doll, organization. --> Finishing all my dolls. Seriously none of them are ever finished.

Envy: Your grail, or possibly someone else's doll you particularly admire & why (don't steal their pic but maybe link to one). --> I don't really have one since my Volks Michele was technically my grail....however I was really sad to not get the chance to buy Shecow's fire kit. So I am a little Envious of whoever got it.

Wrath: Chelle (ResinSoul Ya). Some days I live her and think shess adorable, other days I hate how big her head seems, how cartoonish her face is, her single-jointed body, etc.

Gluttony: Online shopping for alllll the pretties!

I just got her, she was second hand, and I can take no credit for anything about her, but I just... Absolutely adore her. The body is ideal, to me, and she perfectly embodies everything I love about dolls while simultaneously seeming so alive and full of character.



Pride: Chelle. I made everything she's wearing- wig, eyes, faceup, dress, jewelry. And as silly as it might sound, I'm proud of myself for sticking with her and not giving up even though I'm not always in love with her. She forces me to be creative.

Sloth: Taking pictures!! I'm working on it but doggone it I'm just not GOOD and I hate that feeling. I want to document my dollies but bleughh.

Envy: So many lovely dollies to ogle!! I think my biggest envy right now though is faceup talent. I love doing faceups and they're the reason I got into this hobby, but I'm not good yet and (as previously mentioned) I hate the part where I'm bad at something haha

 

Greed: Edgar. Not only because his sculpt but the rest of his customisation. I couldn't tell how much I have spent on him to anyone not in the hobby cause they would think I'm crazy.

Wrath: Probably Kerli, I just can't agree with her now. She has had three different bodies and I'm still not comfortable. Now she won't stay in her character. I hope everything changes when she gets a new face-up.

Gluttony: Online shopping is my weak spot.

Lust: Nelliel, she is the most perfect little and sweet dollie in the world.

Sloth: Maintenance! I haven't taken them apart for a good cleaning for... 2 years? Bad mommy!

Envy: An easy one, I secretly stalk each and every pic of a certain doll owner I really admire and envy at the same time. Her collection is just amazing and she is so talented I just can't help it. Would love to meet her for real in a doll convention in the future.

 

Greed: Most expensive would be my Fifth Motif dolls.

Wrath: My SOOM and Ringdoll. I love both their sculpts so much but something still lacks about them, but I love it, but something really lacks, but wow I love, altho theres really something missing, such pretty faces, but I thi-- *EXPLODES*

Lust: It would be my Angell Studio doll. He just looks so soft and handsome, really wholesome! I can just bring him out to anywhere in public without worries, cause he is that much of a pretty doll that people would compliment him and he already received so many of it! Really makes me a proud owner!

Sloth: Definitely stringing my dolls, and organizing their clothes from time to time.

Envy: I already have my grail! But my I would love to have all the handsome sculpts there are to offer!

 

Greed: Adhara (my Fantasia Doll Vivian hybrid), hands' down. She also has a work-in-progress secondary head (an IH Scarlet), which brings up the price tag.

Gluttony: Well, this is an expensive hobby in general, so. ^_^;

Lust: I say I try to avoid playing favorites... but it's obvious Adhara gets far more love than the others.

Pride: While I am quite proud of Adhara (again) because she's the receiving end of my more successful customization attempts (namely her distinctive hair), I am still proud of all my dolls as a whole. Every one of them involved a considerable amount of saving and budgeting.

Sloth: I am guilty of not having restrung any of my dolls ever since I received them. Sure, none of them is past three years old, but I may just be making excuses. <_<

Envy: I already obtained my grail doll, but I am still very much in awe of those with great photography and sewing skills. I'd love to attain that same level of expertise someday.

Wrath: Ummm prolly some of my Tinnies that I forget I even have sometimes couse they just get lost among the other dolls like I love them but they are so small that I don’t feel like I can restring them

Gluttony: I mentioned snipping up cheep dolls right? Lol at the moment I have 4 dolls ordered and have spent more then ever before on dolls so that’s pretty big for me right now. That being said the amount of art supplies I have for them oh boy I have a sewing machine just about dedicated to doll stuff

Lust: my doll chatuea lance just seeing him makes me happy inside he’s my first grail and the one who has a story I have worked so hard on going to Tolkien eel levels of world building.

Pride: my soon ondin beacouse my friends got her for me for my birthday and she is a limited doll from sooo!❤️

Sloth the clothes and wigs I love doing the faces and body blushes and tattoos granted my worst sin here is my sister had a perfect case for them and I just need to clean my room so I can have it which I haven’t gotten around to yet ( I blame life)

Envy: people who are really good at patern making I’m getting better but it’s still a pain oh and people who are killer at eye lashes

 

Greed: For now it is my DS Saint.

Wrath: My RS Gang, hate his body as it is a pain posing around, but I so love his face sculpt.

Gluttony: Have gotten quite the collection being in the hobby for 11 years, plus having build up an awful addiction to resin hasn't really been of any particular help either.

Pride: Aloysious, my FL Chloe/BlueFairy hybrid boy. Worked my ass off making his entire outfit, shoes, wig, jewellery, and faceup.



Sloth: I'm really bad at finishing any one in my collection, perhaps also because I see them as ever evolving and will never truly be finished as such.

Envy: DreamofDoll Elf Ducan and Sleeping Yen, someday one of them will be mine, I hope.

Sloth: It should be restringing as so many of my lot desperately need that, but my hands/arms are just not up to the task, so it is eyelashes.

Envy: I envy those who have the talent to do their own faceups

 

Greed: Still on order, twigling obsidian Elbe and light purple gamine (both €999–I’m not going to convert that into Canadian..)

Wrath: Iplehouse Kamau on the old EID body, he needs so much modding to not be a paperweight, but he’s so pretty!

this isn’t even all the dolls, or all the tall girls, or all the twiglings.

Lust: my top 3 are my Twigling Ingenue (shrike) because she’s my favourite character and my favourite doll sculpt on my favourite body; my tiny resinsoul modded girl, because she’s my favourite D&d character, and the most work I’ve ever put into a doll; and my 73cm buff girl mod, because she took the body of a character from a bad time, got me into modding, and buff girls are life❤️

Pride: Liriel II and Ness’s body: 2 full Twigling dolls i funded while laid off in April, exclusively by sales. I was severely bipolar at the time (mostly depressed) but selling got me up and gave me goals.

Sloth: I hate restringing big dolls. I’m not strong, I get bitten by S hooks all the time, and if it’s not tight enough, I have to start over.

Envy: My grail is a tan Twigling ingenieuse. I follow someone on Insta whose whole collection is a dream, but she has one, and I love even just seeing pics.

 

Greed: My most expensive doll is a Migidoll Yujin (head and body added up to just under $500 USD)

Wrath: Hazuki (Elfdoll Sooah on a Mirodoll body). I love her face and styling so much... but that torso joint is so flipping floppy!

Gluttony: I feel like my first year and a half of collecting BJDs was a huge shopping splurge. I purchased 2 SD dolls, 1 floating head, 1 YoSD doll, 1 rabbit doll, and 2 clothing hauls. I went into shock after adding everything up and didn't buy anything for a couple of years

Lust: Also Hazuki. She's my favorite because of her face up, completeness, style... I just love looking at her.

Pride: Still Hazuki. She has come a long way from when I first got her. I'm still in search of a red/brown wig but otherwise I think her look and style is pretty much where I want it. This might change in the near future since I'm starting to shell some characters which have more complex outfits and hairstyles. BUT...

Sloth: I'm feeling really sloth-y about completing my dolls (or anything crafting related really LOL). I need a lot of motivation to start crafting their props and accessories!

Envy: I don't have a grail haha but I do love Nats' Rasmus and Sa'at

 

Greed: Probably Koyuki (VOLKS DearSD Una fullset) although I can't recall the exact amount at the moment it was definitely over $1k

Wrath: Mafuyu (VOLKS DearSD Megu), she came out of nowhere and is quite demanding.

Gluttony: I think it was a year or two ago that I walked into VOLKS Akihabara to pick up one outfit from a recent release and by the end of it spent 40000円 (and a doll was not included in that, it was all clothes).

She's been with me for nearly 10 years and through many crazy life issues but is still absolutely perfect and always the one doll that handles everything I throw at her with grace. She's also good at stabilizing the other dolls (figuratively and literally, when posed alongside her they stand quite solidly).

Pride: Definitely Nadeko (VOLKS SDG Megu)!
I scrimped and saved for years before I had enough saved up to buy her.

Sloth: After accidentally restringing Hitagi's arms in reverse I really dislike restringing to the point where I'd rather hop the several hour Shinkansen to the other side of the country or wait for Dolpa to be able to leave it to the Dolly Doctor to deal with.

Envy: My grail was always YoSD Megu (and @Alucard521 gifted her to me for Christmas a few years ago).
But currently the want spot is occupied by VOLKS Ian; I had never looked too much into her since she's crazy rare but I put in a bid on a low auction I came across randomly and ever since I lost that auction for her by a mere $20 I realized how much I really loved her so the hunt is on.

 

Greed: Lati Yellow Hana, Kinderlati version. My only full set.

Wrath: All of my YOSD, why are they so cute in person but not in my pictures?

Gluttony: I might have a lot of spare clothes for 16cm size…this is not even all of it


Lust: My Pukifee Ante is my favorite right now, she was pre-loved and still loved so much, her personality comes through so strongly. I had no interest in Pukifee when I started collecting and could have gotten one brand new but I’m glad I found one second hand when I came around.

Pride: My Lati Yellow Nia, she was a good deal for what she is and probably my second favorite.

Sloth: I hate selling things, I have so many extra clothes and wigs I need to sell but dealing with flaky buyers kills me!

Envy: I’m extremely envious of anyone who has a tan Pukifee Ante or a tan Lati Yellow Hana.
