5th Motif Discussion - part 4

Dec 3, 2017

    1. Those were the only spares I had...and most of them are pretty low dome, or too big iris. The 14mms I have are handmade resin, yes. Maybe I just need a higher dome. I just hope the iris isn't too big with regular 14mms. I'll have to steal another dolls eyes to try out, so I know what to get.

I have 14mm Makos in my boy and I like the way they look, though they may be just a bit on the large side.

    3. Thanks @demonunicorn but I just heard from SartoriaJ on Etsy they will be making a leather sneaker in EID size. I figure it will cost more but will be at least a higher end looking sneaker and so will consider a pair from them and a pair from Iplehouse for the other. But after I have paid my boy's off.

    4. I received my 5th Motif guys a couple of weeks ago but have been busy with life. But now I'm finally getting a chance to play with them and try on old clothing that I have around here. I had some very old Hound clothing (Cheerydoll, Dollmore) from the days when the fit of clothing wasn't that great but some of it seems to work out for 5th Motif guys. Also, I have been finding the old SOOM Mecha Angel dress shirts have fit quite nicely on them too. As for shoes, some of the really old Volks SD13/SD17 and some new Volks SD17/SDGou shoes have fit them quite well also. Hope this helps!

    5. Do you guys recall any torso stand that would fit a Venitu head? I order an extra head and I'd like to have it displayed, but the stands I know of all have a smaller neck and I'm not sure whether it would look good.

      • x 1
    6. @Mysha try Etsy, I saw a maker of male and female busts for heads, but you may need to modify it as I heard these heads are very unique.

Thanks @pris84 for the info on old Dollmore clothes and such. I have a few items I saved from the big guys who have moved on because of the one big guy I am getting in March. If these Fifth Motif guys are close to his size we can share quite a bit here. I also purchased two suits and shoes from Blue Blood Doll so they have fancy outfits, and they will have everyday ones too.

    7. @Mysha
I might end up using a dollshe chest piece as a display stand. They sell the parts for the 28M individually if you ask and they have the same neck size.

Otherwise I might end up sculpting my own bust stand. It seems like it would be a logical next step for me since my own sculpt fits on a 5th motif body so I can swap them around.

    8. Oh my I just checked her store out, it's so pretty maybe I'll get a sneaker form there too @_@ Thankkks haha :3

    9. It's two guys who run it and create all those lovely things.

    10. @Teseya - Aww, what a neat little box opening! He's gorgeous!
I've got some 12 mm Mako eyes in my Venitu. The iris is a touch bigger than you'd want for realism, but when he's not wearing those eyes, he's wearing custom eyes I made using Adelkawalka irises.

    11. I have added the thread to my watch as I will no doubt have fun finding clothes for mine. Thank you for starting it @MacaronTea. When I find things I will share them on there.

Great video @Teseya and congrats on his arrival!

I was lucky with eyes as my friend @Quiet and Insane had made some for their Venitu and gave me a pair. They have a small iris and work really well.

      • x 1
    12. @Teseya I'm a little late to the discussion but have you looked at Dollyplanet (formally Kokdoll)? I have not tried them myself but have drooled over their small iris/low dome beetle glass eyes.

      • x 2
    13. Went to check them out...and oh my! I likes! Thank you so much! I'll let you know if they work out...though it may take a while b/c I just sent his head out for faceup.

    14. Ok here's a quandary. Where does one find socks for these guys. I don't mind if my guys go commando but socks prevent staining from shoes. I thought I could get some from this one tailor who has made me socks for big footed guys before, but he is no longer taking custom orders. So where can I find socks that at least will cover feet and ankles?

Thanks for any help or links.

    15. Thanks @BoneLace , they don't mention the size, but guessing I can write and ask.

    16. Lmao the size is listed under “color” bizarrely enough. They have SID and EID size

      • x 1
    17. Saw that after I posted. Thanks again @BoneLace

    18. wahhhh! this is making me so excited for mine; i hope u love him

      • x 2
    19. Well big bummer. Went to buy socks, and see shipping is $30! So might have to try making socks.

    20. @animemom Socks are a great simple project! I've modded Undead Threads pattern for other sized dolls before. Hardest part is hemming the top of the socks.

      • x 1
    21. Thanks. I appreciate the link but my sewing machine is over 35 years old and I don't trust it to do stretchy stuff. Working on a GO.

    22. Ah I get you. It's a challenge even one my newer machine. I'd offer to make you a pair but I don't have my boy yet to check fit. Closest I have is SDGr to compare.:sweat

      • x 1
    23. Thanks. I need several pairs so better going with group.

    24. Soooo I kinda lost track of the thread, but-! My Venitu is here :D Took me a bit to string him (ordered him unassembled because customs are meh) and now I'm- ... well, a tad bit disappointed?

First of all, his cast is awesome. I ordered him in oriental, and the colors fits him perfectly. I adore his hands and his sculpting in overall, but not... his joints. :|
His knees sit extremely tight in his upper and lower legs, but they still work fine - whats giving me nightmares are his elbows. They look awesome, yes, but they always want to buckle in, especially the lower arm. While its nice that he can touch his face, he shouldn't do that all the time... the sueding Mr. Cho send with him doesn't help at all.
I've sueded his ellbow joints for now, but I'm not sure if thats really a permanent solution (since hot glue suede tends to rub off after some time). I have no idea if thats a regular problem with Venitus, of if its just mine.

      • x 1
    25. @meanae
Yeah that sounds like just a venitu problem
Want me to show you how I have mine set up? I can give photos when I get home since if you stick something like a padded cloth in just the right spot where it buckles then it holds (even better than before tbh)

I’ve been just meaning to get a stronger adhesive later.

      • x 1
    26. Pictures would be great!
The hot glue sueding helps fo now but I'd love to know what others came up with.

      • x 1
    27. @meanae To help with the arm snap, I like to turn the elbow joint slightly in the socket so the arm can't snap back into the bent position. It's a little fiddly, but works for me anyway.

      • x 1
    28. I use the brown stretchy medical tape for sueding joints. It doesn't wear off, isn't thick and really helps. Just a thin strip or even a c shape one helps. Of course when my guys get body work I am hoping the MSC will make it slide less. Or I might hodgepodge the areas before I restring them.

      Good luck @meanae

      • x 1
    29. Good to know for when my guy gets here. If the sueding doesn't help, some wiring might be another option.

      • x 1
    30. Alright so hopefully this helps y'all.

If you pull on the joint and look inside, there's a slight ridge where the bottom of the elbow peanut rests on the arm joint.
If you glue a fabric or a cloth or anything that can really stick to the resin then it tightens the joint and makes his elbow hold
      [IMG]
It has to go across the ridge though or else the joint doesn't properly tighten.
My venitu holds a lot better afterwards and can even hold the in between angles.

The moleskin padding i'm currently using doesn't have strong enough adhesive though so I might try gluing on some gauze with elmer's glue and seeing if it sticks better.

    31. @animemom
      @BoneLace

Maybe that’s why mine came today straight from 5th Motif with cut pieces of fabric band-aids inside the outer edge of the knees and elbows? (I’ve compared them to my fabric bandaids, and they look similar, and the end of the tape is cut as a semicircle, which makes me think it’s from that.)

      @BoneLace

They look pretty much like the photos you’ve shown, but you’re saying you added your sueding?

      • x 1
    32. @americanseamstress
Nah mine came with sueding as well and it is the texture that you are describing (dont use bandaid though the glue is real tough to get off later on) but the elbows buckle on mine anyways so I've had to remove the original sueding on one side and add the moleskin to help tighten the joint up instead

      • x 2
    33. I didn’t use bandaids—I just wouldn’t be surprised if that’s what the company used because it looks so similar. I’m very puzzled as well, and I may remove it and try to replace it with something more inert like a slice of a silicone kip. Virtually none of my dolls are sueded or wired. I’m not really a fan. (Although I may be forced to suede the hips of my Artifex Kindred body.)

      • x 1
    34. Huh weird I'll have to have a look inside my guy's elbows - I don't remember seeing anything like that, but mine is from the tail-end of the Dollshe era (he even came in one of those giant beige coffin-like Dollshe boxes rather than the Fifth Motif brown box)

Oh quick shout out - I found a decent fit eye-wise with Eyeco 11mms and.. Some, but not all, Dollmore Glamour Model stuff fits, mostly tops rather than bottoms - he's got quite a large bum!

      • x 2
    35. Yeah mine came with those band-aid like forms too... in addition to the silicone bars. I think I'll test out BoneLace's methode once the hot glue sueding wears off.

@Vetinari - their acrylic eyes or their silicones? Masterpiece silicone eyes fit great too I noticed. I have the feeling eyes will be rather complicated, ut of the 30 piars I have lying around only 3 fit him halfway okay, lol.

      • x 2
    36. Oh sorry - yeah the squishy silicones. I suspect that the hard plastics would be a little gappy with their less flattened shape.

      • x 1
    37. Yeah i have tested some 'normal' acrylics in 10 and 12mm they looked, uh... lets say weird.

      • x 1
    38. I went ahead and ordered some glass small iris 14mms from Kokdoll. But I already sent the head to Red Iris Atelier for a faceup...so I won't know if they fit when they arrive...but I'll try them in my dollshe boys. I also found an etsy artist that makes small iris eyes too called BlueberryStyle, who I may get a wig from, as she has a Venitu model as well so I can be sure.

      • x 1
    39. I have a pair of KoKs 12mm small iris eyes, they're a tad bit gappy at the sides, so you should be safe with 14mm :)
I also have the same acrylic base that Blueberry is using; I personally think that their 14mm eyes have an iris that's a tad too small.
      Iris sizes:
      KoK 12mm = 5mm
      KoK 14mm = 6,5mm
      Blueberry 14mm = 4,5mm

I'm currently using for my Venitu a pair if Kanis glass eyes with a small iris (14mm/6,5mm). I'd love to have some 14mm with 5mm iris, the smaller Kok size works perfetly in my opinion x.x
Left Kok 12mm, right acrylics 14mm
      [IMG]

left Kok 12m, right Kanis 14mm:

    40. @animemom Freedom Teller socks do fit and you might ask someone on the thread who will be placing an order to let you know - you can share that shipping charge.
I have about 8 outfits from SartoriaJ and have been pleased with the quality, the service and the communication. If something is going to take longer to get they are very good about letting you know and even asking if you wish to cancel because of the wait.
Not a great photo but 4 outfits from SatoriaJ

    42. He looks great! <3
      Very stylish.

That suit jacket looks like a really nice fit too. Would you be willing to share where it's from? (Sorry if you already said...I was sick for about a month and now I'm trying to catch up on the flurry I missed! :sweat)

    43. Everyone looks fantastic @jo1961
I am working on the socks issue.

    44. Jacket and shirt are from the Ringdoll RGM03 Norman fullset :) I'm pretty sure the pants would fit too, but I don't have them anymore. The jeans are from Miyabjd on taobao and are meant for EID/Idealian; they're a tad loose in the hip and way too wide in the legs, but they fit overall.

    45. such a soft expression could make me felt kyaaa~ XD

      • x 2
    46. @meanae Oh no, I did not need to know that. Ringdoll has a uniform set that I've drooling over for a bit and knowing it might fit is tempting. Though I'll still stare the sizing a bit more due to the four different sizes. :?

I'd still rather get (or make something like) Sadol's Green Beret set for boys. Is it fortunate I don't think any of their sizes will fit these boys?

    47. I just got some items from Iplehouse and I am surprised by the difference in the white sneakers and the blue ones. I only bought the two different colors as that is all they had left. I will measure the bottoms and share photo later. But I am hoping the blue ones are the right size and the white could go to another guy with bigger feet. If not will figure out what to do.

    48. [IMG]IP-Shoes-26 copy by Marie, on Flickr
Here are the shoes. Only 1 cm longer for the white ones, but being white makes them seem so much bigger.

    49. I saw on Facebook that 5th Motif is getting ready to (or already has) shipped the first patch of head-only orders. I'm so excited, but I don't think mine is going to be part of the order. I ordered Goohwa during the last days the ordering period was open.

    50. He looks awesome @Quiet and Insane Excited about getting my guys but their long wait time means I can when I find items make it easier to show them when they arrive so thank you all for the help in finding clothes and shoes. Wigs are the one item I want to be extra careful with. I have wasted so much on wigs by buying wrong size or style. I am hoping they arrive in time for Fall meet up so I can try wigs from sale tables.

    51. Thank you!
Ooooh, Ringdoll stuff fits and the arm length looks really good too... uh oh. Haha. :chomp:

    52. Hey guys so before anyone rushes off and buys RD clothes, I think it might just be the Norman/Jack the ripper sets that fit venitu since they were made a bit larger than the RD bodies.

I have the Lucifer style C/Red king sets and the clothes do not fit

Here’s a quick visual comparison between the boys
      [IMG]

      • x 2
    53. Ah, that's good to know @BoneLace
      Thanks!

      • x 1
    54. @animemom - Thank you! :)

The thing is with the Ringdoll clothes, they're made to fit four types of bodies. The body in @BoneLace's photo is the RGM-03 which is the bulkiest and is similar in size to an EID or Dollshe 28M guy (the classic style). The 01 and 02 bodies are tall and thin, with the 02 being slightly shorter and broader than the 01. Then there's the RGM-04 body which is the shortest by a good 4-5 cm, and is quite small over all.

      • x 1
    55. @Quiet and Insane
I think it’s a little misleading to say that the body is comparable to EID/28M size.
In terms of visual build it might be but in terms of things like chest girth and hip size, they don’t match up unless RD happened to just make the clothes loose for whatever reason so it’s a bit of a gamble if you don’t know for sure that the clothes are big on the RD boys.

Just making sure people are aware that anything fitted for RD might not fit haha

      • x 1
    56. @BoneLace - It's closer in bulk to the EID and 28M bodies than the Timeless. The Timeless is wide like an EID, but skinnier than the three of them, butt excepted. The clothes you bought may have just been an anomaly. It's not the first time a company has made clothes that don't fit their dolls. You certainly can't put regular 70 cm stuff on the RGM-03.

      • x 1
    57. @Quiet and Insane
But that’s exactly my original point. If two of the full sets that I have won’t fit my venitu then not all sets will and people should be conscious of that before buying.

I won’t argue the EID/28M sizes vs RD sizes because it’s obvious from measurements that RD is a significant step down from those two (I remeasured this morning to check too)

But definitely if anyone wants to buy RD clothes for their 5th motif then it’s somethig to watch out for since more fitted clothes for the RGM03 probably will not fit. If I only had one set that didn’t fit then maybe it would be an outlier but since neither of my sets fit i think people should be aware before they buy

    58. So, I was wondering if anyone can help me. Please just tell me if this is the wrong place to ask and I'll delete it.

I have a beautiful Goohwa head. I adore him, but he is a nightmare to hybrid with that massive neck hole. I'd like him to be skinny. I'd take slightly toned and want him 70-75cm. His neck is the problem though. I have a 5th motif body for a Venitu of mine, which also works for Goohwa. But, I'd like Goohwa to be taller. Any suggestions?

      Thank you!
