5th Motif Discussion - part 2

Nov 25, 2014

1. Littlebirdzoon, Congradulations! Post photos when he arrives. :)

2. It's taken me far too long to share my GooHwa.

He is Honey Caramel Brown, and the photo pretty much is accurate in color. His faceup is by the talented and patient lyn_r.

I really love her work.....but, then she knows that. I've not decided on a name yet, but I'm sure he'll tell me.

3. oriscany: ooooh, handsome man! he looks darker than my caramel Goowha. in either shade, it's makes for a very yummy fellow. :aheartbea

4. Thank you.
Your guy is a lighter color? Hmmm, now I wonder if I got the correct resin. I do love it, and thank heavens lyn_r was able to paint it. So many of the darker colors are lightened by the MSC coats and I wondered about that...... But as you can see there is no color change from the head to the body.

5. @oriscany: very different color. & my Jishin doesn't have any MSC. anywhere. in any case, your Goohwa is utterly wonderful! :aheartbea
I ordered Fresh for my Venitu & got white. that's why I painted him pearly all over. turned out to be right for his character. I think the honey colors vary quite a bit.

here's my caramel - sweet, chewy & delicious. I mean, esthetically appealing:

6. Wow, these darker colors are really intense! Great jobs on both the boys.

7. You do know petiteballerine that part of the reason I wanted the Caramel was because of your guy. I love his color and you didn't use any MSC on it? I love him, you have to know that. And, I really do wish I could have gotten one in that color, too.

It really sounds like they got their colors messed up. I'm happy though, and I need to find a name for him. (Btw, Jishin is a wonderful name for your guy. He really does look like he should be in a regal court.)

8. @oriscany: heheh. I know several people ordered dolls in caramel after I posted that shot by the window. it's just a wonderful color.
I never use MSC & rarely use any sealant unless I paint someone else's doll (because everyone thinks they need it.) faceups from 2004 still look great. even a tattoo covering most of my Hound (painted on hair, jewelry, sea serpent) are vibrant & intact. and I live in SoFla!
some resins, however just won't let paint "stick" without something over the resin. for them I use pastels. rub it into the resin like a stain.

Jishin is the earthquake man. to partner Ariel with his watery nature. Jishin also plays a mean axe. I need to take more pics of him.

thanks a bunch for the kind words.

9. The 5th Motif guys are not very heavy for how large they are. For that I'm glad!! (I looked at The new guy that Mr. Dollshe is producing and he's gorgeous, but he weights a ton.) I'm not sure if they've thought about that or not. (Large SoOm and the EID have the same issue of weight.)

I think that the pure resin is pretty much uniform in color from batch to batch. At least my dolls are. I also think that your white Venitu is wonderful and that your character wouldn't have been the same in another color.

10. @oriscany: I ordered Venitu very early but I asked Cho if he thought the cast doll would be very heavy. he said he wanted to keep the weight down, so I took a chance. (whew!)
the big guys like the new Rey Lewis weigh just under 6lbs. that's a lot of plastic! Mr Kim keeps adding "illegal copy protection" inside. makes them heavier. recasters are going to steal anyway.

yes, I think the pure is stable, but those honeys can be finicky I think.
Ariel thanks you for the comment. he's happy to be pearly, covered in seaweed & scales. :XD:

11. Soooo Cool! :D

12. I love your Gintoki!! So cool :D

13. OMG petiteballerine I just saw the anchor. How cool is that?? He really is etherial. Great shot!!

14. Here is Kami! Just when I was thinking that he would have to be picked up at the post office the next day (they hold here) the mail man came into the apartment and knocked on the door!

Allow me to gush for a moment: I wrote Fifth Motif a long Facebook message about how beautiful his dolls were. I mean, I was on the verge of tears when I opened this box (which has never happened before). I love many companies for their lovely dolls, but I've never seen one that screamed "I'M AN ART PIECE! Put me in a gallery!" before Kami. I mean he has freaking wrinkles on his HEELS. How am I ever supposed to go back to any other doll now? Haha. He even has pits to install silicone and gauze for better posing and rubbing. I mean... my god. This whole time I was looking for a doll that would inspire me and art and it was Kami. I'm so happy. :)

Okay gush over. Did anyone else get pureskin fresh? He looks pale to me, not that I'm complaining since it was a tossup between pale and fresh anyway, but I'm confused. The only thing that scares me on this doll besides his fingres is the fact that the resin on the inside of his ears is so thin I could probably break it with my fingers. :x

[IMG][IMG][IMG]

15. Littlebirdzoom - he is gorgeous and very photogenic. Congrats with your boys arrival. I am very much looking forward to mine arriving too :)

Dollshe paleskin is paperwhite, where freshskin is a white skin with a slight pinkisch undertone if I remember correctly from the freshskin head I had 2 years ago. Is yours paperwhite?

16. Littlebird, I agree, the details on the Venitu sculpt are wonderful. I've had my boy for awhile now, it took me longer than usual to send him out for a face-up. But I should be getting the head back tomorrow and I'm anxious to see how he'll look when he's all put together. Of all the sculpts I have, I think this one may be the most popular and I had a difficult time deciding on a look that wasn't too close to those I've already seen. I hope his final presentation is as unique as his sculpted style!

17. Littlebirdzoom: my Ariel (see previous post with pic) is Fresh. no pinkish undertone at all. just white. that's why he was completely painted over. :o
I think the later castings have thin ears & some minor changes in the mold. they had to modify it a while back. the mouth & eyes are a bit sharper in the early ones. but they're all lovely. Ariel arrived in a bag in a torn-up box with missing hands that had fallen out. everything was recovered intact. resin is stronger than it looks.

18. Congrats Littlebirdzoom!! I think we all feel the way you do about our guys. They are works of art and I really wish they weren't so limited......and I'd be thrilled if they showed up in the mini form. Along with a mini Saint and Bernard.....woot!!

The Fresh reain in the Dollshe dolls that I have is a very light tone and I love it.
What petiteballerine is correct, and she was one of the lucky early buyers. I almost didn't get this guy as I was sure he weighed a ton. He just looks like he'd be a heavy doll, and I think I need strength training for many of the larger dolls. It's not that I'm a weak person, it's just that some of the dolls are heavier than I am....lol.

19. My Honey Caramel Brown guy is the same color. ^__^

20. Love the way Goohwas look! should just order the head :D

21. Well, you might find a Goohwa on the 2nd hand market one day. He is sold out from the maker.

22. Hmm, that caramel brown resin is delicious! ;)

23. My Venitu showed up today, right as I was pulling up to the house in time to see the post man! I instantly went ''LoudOwl's house of doll humiliation" on him with the black wig that's too big. Lol. Sorry dude!

24. lol Ritual Dolly Hazing has a great tradition behind it! ;)

25. LoudOwl: that really shows off his pout! lol. ;)

26. Got my Neddy's face-upped head back today. I'll be trying a lot of different wigs and eyes on him but this is his first look.

27. The Blond And Blue eyes match his coloring well - great face up!

28. Yes, I like this fair look, but the eyes are a bit small for the eye wells. The face-up is by Faint Pulse Aesthetics.

29. Congrats on your doll LoudOwl.
Phanuel: great face up!

30. Congrats LoudOwl. These guys are amazing and I'm so glad that he arrived safely. So, now that you have him, I'd love to see what you do with him. Actually, they are great just as they are. ;)

Phanuel, that is a great faceup and I love his coloring.

31. Artyom (Fifth Motif Venitu) and his pet Mushka (bat by Angelica Holm).

• x 1
32. Artyom is lovely, great hair, and what an amazing pet!

33. soooo pretty!

34. After a lot of inspection I think my Venitu might have the slightest and I mean SLIIIGHTEST pink undertone to him. He's not paper, but he is close. I like it though, I'm such a sucker for white skin dolls it's not even funny. I blame my need of contrast instead of blend hah.

Can anyone do me a HUGE favor? Take a good hard look at your Venitu's elbows from the back, then bend them and look at the bend. Are they the same shape? My Venitu's arm refuses to stay straight, but after looking I noticed they're two different shapes. One is dulled and the other is pointy. I stuck some hot glue in there (dang he's a tight fit too) but it's not helping a ton.

35. Littlebirdzoom: looking at both my Venitu & Goohwa, their R&L elbows (on each doll) aren't 100% matching. the top is rounded, the botton not a point but a slight diagonal to a rounded point. (does that make sense?) they are obviously R & L and not perfect copies on both sides. the left (from the doll's pov) is slightly smaller at the bottom.
one of the many things I love about this body is those marvelous elbows. and they work perfectly.
if you have any questions, ask Cho. he's a very friendly, helpful person. :daisy send him a photo maybe.

36. So many amazing new guys, congrats everyone!:D

37. so is anyone in here on the list of orders that are shipping by mon? it's such a long list I'm curious to see how it effects the timeline of orders going out.

I've been trying to forget about my Venitu since I know I still have a bit of wait until he ships out but I'm kind of excited to try and make come clothes for him. it's so much easier to make clothes the bigger the doll so I'm hoping he'll be the easiest of my crew to sew for once I get past the whole figuring out his style thing (all but one of my other dolls that wear clothes is female :sweat ).

38. August 15th will mark my 3 months wait for my guys! So hopefully I will receive a shipping notice sometime within that time frame! ;)

I'm with you CuriousRaven, I can't wait to figure out my Venitu's character or characters to be honest! Okay, I have a basic idea anyway, so I'll try not to be too overwhelmed with the two incoming boys. I usually prefer time in between doll arrivals, but I could not pass on the opportunity before they were discontinued.

39. Everyone check his Facebook, he just shipped a lot :o

@petiteballerine THANK YOU! That's what's going on with mine too, except it's not quite lining up. I might message him after all. His elbows ARE gorgeous. I've never seen such realism on doll elbows before.. funny enough, it's one of the things that made me decide to get him. Wonky or not haha

40. I received an e-mail from Dollshe craft with my shipping info! Awesome!

41. Hey congrats for your shipping notice, please spam pics whne you will get your doll!:love

42. Sure thing $avage! I'll be able to capture dollshe's pure oriental and copper oriental resin comparison pictures. I chose those resin colors from photo's by helene awhile back. It's going to be exciting to see in person, since I've only owned Dollshe fresh skin dolls.

43. I picked up my Goohwa from the parcel depot on Monday and he's gorgeous! The honey resin is beautiful! I couldn't help but order another Goohwa head and two pairs of hands. I really wish Mr. Cho wasn't discontinuing these boys and would release more in the future, they are wonderful. My Goohwa is number 25, I wonder how many were made in total, I ordered on May 18th when there were 10 sets left.

A few quality points to note for those still waiting for their boys and to compare with those who already have theirs. It's evident that Mr. Cho is sadly feeling rushed. The fabric in my Goohwa's joints is very uneven and in some areas sticks out. Some silicon pieces were missing and others fell out soon after taking him out of the box. There are some scratches to the resin and along with some prominent seam lines the edge of his bum against his thigh joint is uneven and quite sharp. Those issues aside, he is beautiful and I'm smitten with him!

Has anyone tried sanding the honey resin?

44. Honey resin is supposed to be sandable but I have not tried it myself.

45. Same with mine. His silicone fell out immediately and his some of his seam lines are pretty bad. From what I've heard honey resin sands pretty well, but don't take my word for it as I've only heard. I'm really happy that after this rush of orders Mr. Cho can catch a break for himself though. That post he made about his health and his work really hurt me. >_<

46. Sorry guys for the little issues you had with your boys, i hope that is fixable.
As far as i know honey resin should be basically as standard resin just with less urethane in main formula that made honey resin traslucent, i guess is sandable at very least even plastic can be sanded :)

47. I'm so sad he's sold out! He was such a beautiful mold!

48. clearsktstudios Don't worry, there's bound to be lots on the market place! I think there is one or two there now, actually.

Welp, I'm clearly in trouble with myself now. Part of Kami's character? He loves sweaters and cardigans. LOVES. What do I go and do? Order a ton of them. Expect a modeling shoot soon! Haha. Crossing my fingers they they fit.

49. Just discovered some owner photos Venitu sculpt today and wow... they all look so amazing! And the way they're sculpted with those gorgeous hands and feet... and elbows. This is the first time I've ever seen elbows that actually bend at such a nice point. And the timeless body seems to pose so well! *O*

50. OKAY SO I just got some clothes in the mail.

First is a Dollclans S line shirt ( http://www.dollclans.com/shop/step1.php?number=185 ) and the Iplehouse EID Man training pants ( http://iplehouse.com/home/shop/item.php?it_id=1597027570&nhn1=en )

Both are too big. And I mean these pants are ridiculous. The draw string doesn't help, it only makes him look funny. I'm wondering if it's just the EID size in general of if it's the baggy size of the training pants. I saw someone with the white EID drawstring ones and they looked great! Am confused. I want to order EID size from other websites, but I'm scared. Hahah. I'm not sure if I'm just being picky or if they are too big. I have a hard time scaling things down to doll size from people size, but they just look a little too much. Kami isn't one to wear much baggy clothing either so I guess that doesn't help.

The Dollclans shirt fits, but it is also a little big. It's more okay though because I'm going to put a cardigan over it eventually.

51. Can anyone tell me what size wig does Venitu take please? :whee:

52. This is my Venitu with his brand new iplehouse wig in 8/9 size. It fits perfectly.

53. Same wig, different color, different look.

54. farin - that's so cool how his face changes with just the subtle difference between the two wigs. 8/9 from almost any company works for my guys. :daisy

55. Oh wow, yeah those pants are huge!!! His shirt isn't too bad though, looks like a comfy shirt to sleep in! I was gearing up to order some EID clothes from Iplehouse but I gotta say I'm having second thoughts now, I didn't realise they would be that loose, so I'm going to chime in and ask if anyone can let us know if all the EID stuff is similarly sized or if it's just these sweat pants in particular?

56. I agree Ventu changes so much just with a slight difference in wigs color, impressive and nice style!

57. Woh so may new and gorgeous Venitu. Congrats everyone !
I am not surprised that the EID jogging is too big, I find EID clothing (it´s mostly made for Hero I guess ?) too big for the timeless body.
I have to take new pics of my boy, it´s been long time.

58. I guess I'm confused because the measurements were so similar and I have heard *multiple* people say they were fine to fit. Oh well! I think I'll try SSDF size next. If anyone knows if it's just the problem with the jogging pants then let me know :P
