oriscany: Honey-boy will probably arrive at the PO right on the holiday, but I'll be stalking the mailman day after. I promise to take pics immediately showing the light on that resin to help you decide. this guy will be earthy to balance Ariel's watery-airy nature.

I'm very excited, but a bit nervous. that resin cost a lot!

I'm really confused on how to apply for layaway. I've written it down that I want to use layaway, but when I go to pay, paypal asks me to pay for the full order.

 

Just ignore the auto-direct to Paypal after you submit your order, and go to the Paypal website and pay the first payment amount manually to DollShe craft's Paypal address. Make sure you add in the comments/notes on Paypal the order number you were given (on DollShe craft's website; My Account section) and are paying for, and I personally added the product details, too, so there was zero confusion. After, when I paid, I also emailed DollShe to tell them what I had done, the date of the month I will pay, and asked them to confirm that they received my payment. Ultimately I went with one order for pureskin oriental Venitu today. I'm super excited, though also have that giddy-queasy feeling too, eep! - I have not spent so much money in this hobby for a very, very long time, and it's also been a few years since I last purchased a doll, period. But I'm glad I got up the nerve to do it. I'm sure I would regret missing out on him, otherwise. Can't wait til I get to experience one of these dolls in person!

Yikes!! I love that color resin and your guy looks great. I was thinking about the honey Caramel Brown and I ordered it yesterday before the price hike. I'm so glad that I did!! I love it. Congrats on your guy, and thank you for showing him.

 

For some reason, the price change hasn't happened yet... the page says "The price will increase on beginning of 2014, November 28th." but it's already around noon the 29th in Korea and the price is still $700 (for basic pureskin). Just a heads up in case anyone wanted to sneak in under the wire!

I admit I totally only remembered around afternoon today and was like #$@! I FORGOT TO ORDER HIM, but then it was alright after all. Phew.

It's really cool that Dollshe and 5th Motif are letting the old prices to continue all this weekend, so people who had been busy during the week have an opportunity to think and make their orders carefully.

5th Motif just announced that Venitu's price increase has been postponed until after December 15th!

I'm seriously considering of ordering another Venitu in either Pale Tan or Caramel Brown. Does anyone have owner pictures, or knows someone that does, of Honey Caramel Brown?

 

I might order an other one too if my Venitu arrives before the 15th, which I´m sure is a dream v.v........

Hi Noltaire. I couldn't help but laugh 'cuz I've been talking about him constantly. I took some box opening pics which I'll get up in the arrival thread sometime soon - late tonight most likely. (USA EST)

The honey caramel brown looks lovely too~ I debated for a while because the strawberry was tempting for my character's skin tone, and I do like the way the honey resin looks with light behind it, but at the same time there's something I really like about how the more opaque resins look under faceups. So I decided not to spend the extra money for my own guy. I'll just enjoy seeing all the pics of the new skin colours coming in.

One more week and I should be able to unbox my boy. I can only move three suitcases and a backpack's worth of stuff to Canada with me right now, but his wigs, eyes and clothes are part of that. Two wigs, one from Iplehouse and one from Volks, because his hairstyle as I draw it is hard for me to translate to 3D and I'm not sure which will look best, so I bought both just in case the colours I wanted sold out before I have a chance to try them on him. His eyes just arrived from Makoeyes today and they look perfect. I haven't been this excited over a new doll in a while, and I think he's going to be a bit spoiled. I'll be sad to send his head away, but I don't trust my work enough yet so it must be done.

The recaster's blatant advertising is still up on Aliexpress with 1 unit already ordered. Just despicable! Isn't there a way to report this as illegal or something? Needs to be taken down :/
They got a whole bunch of other companies' dolls there too...

Btw congrats everyone who've has their 5th Motifs delivered! Lots of shipment happening this week I see!

 

That´s really sad... I hope creators won´t give up and continue to produce amazing sculpt.
There might be a way to take the advertising down. I think Lilycat did take her Constantine recast advertising down.

I think that people that steal other people's creativity/ efforts are sad in and of themselves. helene, I was hoping that maybe this was not going to happen to the 5th Motif dolls. The little card that came with my first boy does have a beautiful signature on it and a number (78).

Sjota, I got my second Venitu shipped out in just about a month, so I do hope that you get your shipping notice real quickly.

 

There is no way that a 200$ recast could reproduce the exquisite beauty of a real Venitu. No matter if the exterior looks the same shape, the resin would be crap compared to the Dollshe resin and the engineering would be inferior. Not sure why anyone would buy that unless they just are completely unaware that it was a fake. I think the best way to combat the problem is to make sure the consumer is aware by exposing those recast sellers publicly as soon as they advertise what they are selling so no one thinks they are getting the real thing.

 

I feel like buying high quality, legit dolls is one of the main qualities of this hobby. When people used to wonder what would happen to this hobby if it were popularized, no one probably imagined it would be popularized through recasts. Sadly, there are people who knowingly buy recasts and don't care about who/what they're hurting as long as they can get what they want when they want it. I do feel like broadcasting the illegals would be a good step, though if there isn't a way we can shut them down, it would make it easier for recast lovers...

 

The website has clear rules about not allowing counterfeit or bootlegged goods to be sold on there.
It also has some contact form which could be filled out to instigate investigation into unlawful sellers.
I could only point out to Dollshe, 5th Motif and perhaps some other doll companies that have their stuff listed there about the existence of this avenue.
It will be up to them on how to proceed.

 

Finally!!! I got my boys.
Now, I'm going to paint them and make some outfit for them.

I got my shipping notice in the wee hours of the morning today -- I may have been up all night with a migraine/insomnia, but I was thrilled to bits to see that my Dollshe and 5th Motif boys are shipping, which gave me a burst of much-needed squee!!

(Migraine is thankfully doing a lot better this morning -- today's plan is "mail some packages, work on a doll wig, GET A NAP AT SOME POINT.")

But I am sad (and disgusted) to hear the unhappy news about that recast situation - I empathize with Mr. Cho, and hope that he will be able to get the recaster to cease and desist, and the sooner, the better.

Just thought I would share my 2 boys in case anyone has any color questions about the honeyskin. Believe it or not they are actually 2 different skintones but very close. (Left to right): Raspberry Flesh Honeyskin, Strawberry Flesh Honeyskin

 

Interesting comparison also i agree with you seems that colors are pretty close, just a difference in shading...

 

The recast situation is nauseating. The one thing to be glad of is that it was discovered quickly, so hopefully it can be addressed and stopped ASAP... but it's a sad truth that there are entirely too many people who just don't care about the rights of artists and who just want to make money or get cheap dolls to pass off as the real thing.

The move I'm going through has been *extremely* stressful (selling my old place, renting a new one, changing countries... so much has had to be done and still remains to be done) but arriving at my new place and having Venitu to unpack will be a delight. If all goes according to plan, Sunday is the day...

 

I swear I must be seeing things...Haruko006, but your guys look to be a bit different in height, and the heads look different sizes. I really do need a caffeene fix in the morning. The resin colors are quite close.

i would say it's close to impossible that those bootlegs will turn out close to the original to pass off as real
since the original sculpt seems hard to cast,
there's no way that recasters will shell out money for extra molds just to keep up with the quality.
(cho mentioned molds are only good for 4 casts and the sculpt have lines so deep that will tore up the mold )
also the honey skin series are so darn delicate that i doubt that others can copy that translucent touch

 

My Venitu arrived yesterday. He's lovely but huge! I've owned an EID before, but somehow, I was still not prepared for how big he was. I don't know why, just had him down my head as being slightly smaller then EID, despite seeing he was pretty much the same size in photos. I'm a little disapointed that he came in a plain shipper and not a fancy box, cosindering the price paid. It's been awhile since i've had a doll new from a company and I was kind of looking forward to some pretty packaging. But overall i'm very pleased with him. Now I have to decide what faceup artist i'm going to have paint him.

 

Oh, I'm certainly not saying they'll be anywhere close in quality. I just don't have enough faith in people to say that no one's going to TRY to pass them off (on other sites.)

Yeah, shading is about it. But I believe Dollshe said that the colors "mellow" to the colors as they appear on their site. So maybe the difference will be more noticeable in time? I'm not complaining either way as I love them both to bits whether they change or not, but yeah I thought it might be useful to see if someone is deciding between the 2 colors.

It's funny you should say that but I think the Strawberry boy is just a teensy bit taller than the Raspberry boy. But I think that could also be the way they were standing in the photo and the angle of my pic. Not a super quality pic I assure you as it was just with my iphone 6 plus but the pic makes the boy on the right look a little warped. Like the lens had a bit of a fish eye quality to it? But their heads are the same I assure you, I looked them over pretty closely. Raspberry boy is #57 and the Strawberry boy is #84. I'll post some head shots when I get a chance. Another personal observation, Honeyskin really does an awesome job of picking up all the fine details of the mold, I love the detail on these boys, but I think that's just the Venitu sculpt in general. I really really really hope Cho decides to make some more heads for this body some day. I would be broke but I'd have a 5th motif army, lol.

Btw, a lovely girl here from Melbourne brought her Honeyskin Peach Flesh Venitu to my home yesterday so I was able to take some comparison photos between two of mine if any of you are interested.

Actually the honeyskin isn't that orange, it just tends to look like that when next to an Oriental. But by itself with some faceup it can look quite well... PEACHY!
