Great news! I asked 5Star if they were planning to do any new dolls in the Star 15 size. They replied to me in an email yesterday that they plan to introduce more dolls in that size in December.


I'm really looking forward to this. I want the next doll I buy to be a 1/4 boy to go with my girl, and I was hoping he could be from 5Star.

 

Quick question for 5Star owners: What is 5Star resin like? Is it opaque?

I have a Chuu in white, a Tong Tong in yellow, and a Ria in pink. None of them are opaque. In fact they have really nice resin. They're all from 2012 though, so I can't speak for today.

I cannot tell about their current resin 'cause I have only a second hand doll, but my Ji in grey skin and her resin is heavy and a nice, solid tone. A little shiny but nothing you cannot solve with a layer of MSC.

5Star has two new dolls on their site, they are listing them as teens - Cindy and Henry. I really like both of them.

Does anyone know how often 5stardoll has events for stuff like free shipping, free faceups, etc? I heard they have them though I'm not sure how common they are. I've been thinking about getting an Alyssa and a elf Elaine, so getting either free shipping and/or free faceups would be really nice.

 

Can anyone confirm, if the 5stardoll already had new msd size body w/c is double jointed? Since a saw some videos that they already have double jointed body although it was an sd size. Hope someone can enlightened me with this.

 

Hey! I'm looking to hybrid my lillycat head, and I love the new 5stardoll girl body. Does anyone have experience with this body? I'd like to know more about posability, and any pictures anyone had of their poses would be greatly appreciated! They are so beautiful in terms of aesthetics, but the official pictures don't show much in terms of posing.

I am due to get my 5sd mad girl body anytime soon (waiting for shipping confirmation to come any day now). But I do have a msd boy and I can tell you few things:
They’re single jointed.
Resin has nice feel and kind of glowy pinkish.
Poseseabilty is pretty good but not like mini fee posesability. 5stardoll strings the dolls very well that the body holds the poses decently.
For the price they offer for the doll, you get real good deal out of it.

That's promising that you felt like you didn't need to suede him, I think I will take the plunge and order myself a girl body! How long have you been waiting for yours?

 

I ordered on August 25 and they said it would be shipped around October 15th. Still waiting on that.

 

To answer your question about posing, I think that this body poses very good in my opinion. I will say that it's strung very tightly so you might want to restring the body, that's if you want to.

I took some photos of my Elaine doll, sorry about the quality of these pictures. I was in a rush, so I'm sorry if you see stuff in the background.


This is her kneeling down, she doesn't need any support whatsoever, the only problem is her feet. So make sure her feet isn't in the way!

If you're talking about her hands, it depends. I took some pictures and this is her hand right in front of her face.


If you pose it around a bit, like put her hand on top of her head, it pretty much stays.

Sad to hear this body is single jointed :с I was interested in this body and I still don't reject it. Can somebody share any comparison photos with other different companies MSDs please? I am searching for comparison photos but all of them show only very old 5stardoll's msd body, not this new.

 

So I know I want to get this body, but now the website has added another skin color, and has breast size options. Should I hold out on ordering until they are fully done updating their site? It's seems like every time I check something new has changed on the website. It's hard to get information on a company that is constantly changing!

Are their MSDs (specifically, well, girls) considered slim msd or standard msd?

Hey everyone! I am interested in getting a 5stardoll, but I have been having a hard time figuring out if they're slim or standard? I have seen photos of the old body, and it looks like it would probably be 'slim,' but I haven't seen any of the new body so I don't know where they fall anymore. Here are the measurements per the website:

Elaine - Ball Jointed Doll ♔ 5STARDOLL

"Height 41cm
Circumference of Head 7/8inch
Circumference of Chest 18 cm(big Chest), 16.5 cm(default small chest)
Circumference of Waist 14cm
Circumference of Hip 20cm
Width of Shoulders 8cm
Length of Leg 22.5cm
Length of Arm 12.5cm
Foot length 5.4cm"

It doesn't seem too different from my Withdolls, but I have heard someone say they aren't slim msds but I'm not sure how accurate that is?
And, for future reference - when just going off of measurements - when would be the point a doll isn't slim but standard?

(also, if anyone has a 5stardoll Elaine or Alyssa and can give me the exact head circumference and eye size in cm I'd appreciate it, I've been having a harder time than I care to admit figuring out it, since it seems 14mm and 16mm are thrown around but 16mm seems awfully big for a msd...)

 

Slim MSD shirts should fit pretty well, the arms are a little bit longer on the 5stardoll though.

Biggest difference is the waist is thicker, the legs being longer too, pants might not fit so well.



Just for comparison, here's against an Iplehouse JID, which is a non-slim doll. While the 5stardoll doesn't match the A-line exactly, I'd say it's definitely closer to slim than to non-slim.

 

I dont think that Elaines body is slim. The torso is a thicker and the body is just longer in general. Some slim clothes might fit (skirts, socks, maybe some loose shirts) but most wont. The bighest problems are probably the hands and feet (unless you plan to take them of when you dress her)

the quality isnt very good, it' s super dark here and my hands are shakey! Hope this helps anyway.

And btw, I' d go for 12 or 14mm eyes. Both fit pretty well! My Elaine normally wears 12mm.

I have a 30cm boy body, and with a minor mod on the peanuts, it was a wonderful bet. Are they still offering fantasy colors for dolls other than Aiden? They were pretty cryptic last time I tried asking them

And they said they can make most bodies in tan/gray (although when I tried ordering through a taobao agent they wouldn't cast the 30cm body in gray

This thread seems like it's gone quiet for some time now. I just wanted to post that I ordered a Cindy not that long ago and I'm currently waiting for her to come in! I was just wondering what eye size is suggested? The website says 14mm but I like slightly smaller irises in my dolls to make them look more realistic. Has anyone tried a 12mm eye in any of their minis?

Seems the thread has gone quiet for awhile now, as @Justjordy0 said. However, I thought I'd mention it seems that 5stardoll seems to have discontinued many of their dolls - all msds (besides Henry, for some reason), as well as many dolls in other sizes. I'm not entirely sure what's going on 5stardoll's side... I had sent them an email in late October asking if they'll be sold again eventually, and 5stardoll told me the following:

"Those sold out dolls will not be online again. Thank you for your support. Have a good day."

So... yeah. No idea what's going on. :'D DDE dropped them as a company they carry awhile ago, and 5stardoll doesn't have any announcements on their website about the discontinuations.
I wish they announced the discontinuation beforehand - I would have loved to get an elf Elaine. Luckily DDE had one Alyssa left in stock though! They do mention "factory equipment upgrade" (not sure when they posted it on their website), so hopefully that's a good sign they aren't closing down, though.

 

Yes, I had noticed that they had discontinued some of thier dolls last time I visited their site. It's a bit of a shame as Cindy had been on my wishlist for a while. It would have been nice to have had an warning of the discontinuation to have a last chance to buy. But i'm aware that a lot of BJD 'companies' are individuals or a very small team and life stuff happens and they have to suddenly stop.
Thanks for asking them if it's a temporary break and sharing the reply, it's useful to know that it's a permanent discontinuation.

 

That's such a bummer, I really do like all their MSDs. I almost wonder if they'll make a new msd body that's double jointed? Like the old ones were.

I ordered a Cindy back in August but they messed up my order and I'm currently waiting for my new doll from them. Luckily they caught the issue before they sent my doll out so I don't mind waiting for the new one, but then they announced that everything would be delayed for 40 days so I'm still waiting I have to say that I'm excited for any new sculpts they might release in the future.

 

My first thought was that possibly they were making a new body, but I don't know why they'd discontinue so many sculpts in doing so. :c For some reason Henry is still available so I don't know if he was missed or if 5stardoll has so many that were already made and they're just waiting for them to sell out. I hope you get your doll soon, though!

No. They’re out of business. The website is up but whatever is not sold out is what they have left.

Are you sure they're out of business? Last I heard they were just discontinuing their old bodies and upgrading them. They had posted a new 1/6 body on their instagram earlier this year.

So I recently bought an Elaine (elf ver) secondhand so I decided to take a peak at 5stardoll's website, which I haven't done in a long while... Seems like since they've discontinued a lot of their dolls, they've at least added a few new things onto their website. Not much, but something - so they're definitely still around, but I still wonder what caused them to retire so many of their dolls.

 

According to the den of angels wiki, as of like… mid 2022 5stardoll is now out of business.

Their website has now been bought by a coffee mug company which is bizarre. Why make coffee mugs with the with the company name of 5stardoll…? Such a shame… 5stardoll had some really lovely dolls, too.

 

They’ve long been going out of business for the past 3-4 years with decline and not putting out newer dolls. I really liked their dolls and have few of them. I started into the hobby with their dolls. Let’s hold our glasses up for them.

 

Yeah... It was so peculiar they abruptly discontinued so many of their dolls... in March of 2021, they made this new yosd, and I think that was the last doll update.

They definitely went out with a whimper I remember being so charmed by them when I first found out about them when I was new, their Eric sculpted definitely tempted me as far as SDs go, and I loved Cindy, Alyssa/Muran, and Elaine as far as their msds went.

 

I loved their earlier dolls, there were few MSD around the time Edmund and Tumnus was out that I wanted but no longer available. I have both Edmund, Tumnus, and Emma, as well Elaine and Muran. Also Miss S. Seeing how the company just vanished, I am hanging onto them tightly now.

 

I just bought an Alyssa! I’m excited to get her and I got her for a good price cuz of the sale ($132 with shipping including) I always wanted a 5stardoll but I took a break from the hobby for a few years and was sad to see they might not be in business after this. So I didn’t want to have any regrets so thankfully I had a little bit of bday money
