2024 Doll Goals/Resolutions

Nov 27, 2023

      • The number one thing I would like to do is get Lorcan (delf breakaway) repainted.
      • More props, wigs, accessories, clothes so I can continue having fun making outfits for them (definitely my current favourite thing)
      • Doll stands! And restringing. So they can all safely stand on display. Blue in particular really REALLY needs restringing.
      • Sell or trade the Yder head
      • I really, really want a dreaming vampire shiwoo, so I would like to amass enough funds to put out a wtb post - and cross my fingers!

    1. I've basically been doing nothing with dolls since mid 2020. I started this year by pre-ordering a doll that decided she belonged with me. So, while I won't be doing much until she gets here, once she does I'll need to get back into sewing and perhaps shoe making (at least in cloth) as she's got small feet. I'll also have to find the right eyes and hair for her. I didn't expect to get back into dolls much at all, so this is rather a surprise for me, but the time seems to be right and the doll certainly is.

    2. sigh. i always make doll goals/resolutions but do i get to them?? we don't talk about that
      - figure out how to sew pants/shorts/bloomers in varying sizes/designs
      - get my current collection presentable
      - evaluate what i have and who i should keep/sell (arguably, this before the last mentioned goal)
      - go to/organize doll meets
      - make doll friends in my area
      - knit lots of doll stuff (mostly sweaters + hats)

    3. I'm just getting back into bjds after a year or two off, but here are my 2024 doll goals!
      - SELL DOLLS (I impulse bought so many of my dolls and a lot of them don't really fit my style anymore/I didn't really bond with them)
      - Buy at least one body and/or pick up one of my grail dolls
      - Start doing something creative with my dolls (writing, face-ups, sewing, etc)

Ideally at some point this year I'd love to have a full outfit for each of my dolls, but considering this is the tail end of junior year and start of senior, I'm not quite sure how much time/money I'll have! :sweat

    4. My dolls have been relatively neglected since I moved this summer. I do have a few goals for this year to get back on track with them though.
      1. Downsizing the collection is going to be a must for me. If the doll doesn't fit on the shelf, it doesn't need to be in my collection.
      2. Finishing the faceups on my blank dolls. I have a few Fairyland dolls that have been blank for at least a year now. It would be nice to redo the faceups on a few of my other dolls as well.

    5. Fashionably late to the party, but I needed more time to think about what I actually want to achieve this year.

This year I really want to improve on hobby skills such as:
      - Learning to sew and hopefully sewing at least one outfit by the end of the year
      - Improve faceup techniques (Would hopefully like to purchase an airbrush and more brushes)
      - With my newly acquired camera, I want to experiment with photography and hopefully get a decent lighting setup
      - Get into wigmaking/styling! I'm so particular about wigs that I may as well start learning how to make wigs.
      - Saving more! (because personally I see this as a skill) for any potential grails dropping or unexpected new releases of sculpts I really want.
      - Stop being a scaredy cat and just restring the dolls that need it

Anyways hope everyone has a great new year full of health, wealth, and more dolls! :kitty2

    6. Creative goals:
      • Finish a piece of clothing.
      • Make a wig. Either have to get around to dye some mohair I already have and then make a wig out of that or buy material that’s already in correct color for another doll.
      • Continue writing the story.
      • Work on doll profiles. If a character feels ready to be introduced to the real world, publish a profile for them.
      • Take at least one proper photo of a doll. Proper meaning setting up a photoshoot rather than an off-the-cuff quick pic. Ideally a portrait of a doll that doesn’t have one yet, however I’m not sure if I have anyone that I consider complete enough for one yet.
      • Finish the head shrinking project of my Impldoll Leona, mostly just requires some slight sanding by hand and gluing on magnets.
      • Finish the sculpting phase of the bust stand for my DollLeaves Ida. Oh, and the modification of the head. I’ll probably just add some horns to her forehead but haven’t gotten around to it since I need to wipe her faceup first. Would be nice if I could get this done before summer so I could redo her faceup this year. Which reminds me…
      • Do faceups for everyone needing them. I think on top of possibly the Ida, the only one left is Dahlia. I redid hers last year but it really shows that I hadn’t been at all in the mood to work on faceups, the brows ended up way too dark nor do I even like their shape.
      Maintenance goals:
      • Do at least some restringing, I know there’s at least one doll whose leg is a bit too loose.
      • Hot glue suede the Impldoll(s).
Goals depending on my financial situation, in order of priority:
      • Buy another Impldoll body, as the previously extra head I have now has a character and stole the old body. Trying to do this asap, since the new one is going to have a bigger bust so I don’t feel comfortable sewing anything for that character before I have the new body with me. Sure, I had the character have the old body for like 3 years and didn’t sew a single thing for it, but… what if one day soon I finally get the inspiration to do that?
      • Buy a set or two more filters for my gas mask so I can actually do any faceups. And a box with a hole on the side so I can leave the heads outside after spraying sealant rather than have to keep the mask on inside while the heads dry.
      • Buy wig materials for at least one wig, and color samples for one or two future ones. Priority on a sample for Dahlia’s wig, so I can match her brows to it.
      • Buy more wig caps, another set of protective clothing for SDs, other similar stuff.
      • Buy eyes for at least some of the dolls that don’t yet have their ”own”.
      • Look into whether selling some dolls I feel meh about is worth the hassle for me.
      • Maaaaybe buy some clothing pieces. Perhaps getting to handle new clothing made by someone else could help inspire me enough to sew something myself again. :sweat

    7. Late to the party, but I needed to think on it:
      • I do want to get at least one new resin BJD this year. I have two in mind, so it will depend on which one feels right when I have the money saved up [EDIT: As of a few days later, I've narrowed it down to which one I want to save for. Wish me luck!]
      • I want to focus more on sorting out proper wardrobes for the BJDs I have. Including sewing some new stuff for some of them because I do like sewing
      • Speaking of sewing - I want to work on improving my skills there. I got a new machine relatively recently, so I need to get used to sewing like that again.

    8. New clothes for my boys! Maybe another cheeky boy purchase as well :evilplot:.

      • x 2
    9. Goals include but, as many of my dolls are off-topic for DOA, are not limited to:

Name my MiYou. Just not feeling using his sculpt name as his name, but I haven't quite found the right name for him yet.
      Make more clothes.
ACTUALLY FINISH said clothes and outfits. I have a bad habit of starting garments and not finishing them, or only doing part of the outfit and not the rest of it.
      Get passable at making shoes.
Actually post on my doll Instagram that I started last fall.
Faceups for everyone that needs one (really just waiting on a day warm enough to MSC everybody).
Make the eyes for my Buddha BJD Doggy for when she finally arrives.
Reign in spending; I've been too loose with my wallet lately and the fact that my grail popped up and I had to put him on the credit card this past week didn't help. However, thankfully he's the only one I've done on the credit card so I did keep to my rule for myself from last year on that front. I'm not gonna say "no new dolls" since I also collect off-topic stuff and I'm still actively working on my core collection, but I need to ease up on extraneous things like fabric, props, impulse buys that can wait/I don't really need, etc.
Go out more and take more photos. And actually post photos.
Write down more of my story ideas for the crew I'm forming.
Be more on top of 3d printing replacement parts for dolls that have 3d printed components when needed (like replacement hands for broken fingers, etc).
Start seriously learning 3d sculpting. Maybe do some glove/mitten hands?
Get my documentation of the non-blindbox strung dolls up to date.

    10. -I'd really like to take photos this year and put up a doll profile for my boy
-Come up with a proper name for him as well
-Learning body blushing and attempting a face up
-Actually go to a doll meet up and not be a hermit

      • x 2
      • I have a floating Myou Doll Teresa head which is in urgent need of a face-up. I'll have to learn how to do Face-Ups!
      • After I've practiced Face-Ups, my Souldoll Clodia needs a new one.
      • If I still can't warm up with Clodia even after giving her the styling of which I already did a drawing, I should sell her.
      • Buy a male 1/4 sized doll -> I think I've settled with Huadieshi from Mystic Kids. I think it will also be easier for me to sell Clodia if I have an alternative friend for my other Doll.
      • As always, sew clothes!

    11. To start off, here's a couple goals carried over from 2023:
      • invest in a ring light or LED light (or both) to improve photography lighting
      • continue to learn and improve photography skills
      • invest in simple props or boards/fabric for photo background(s)
      • continue to learn and practice how to (re-)style wigs
      • actually sell your unwanted doll items (bodies, doll, clothes, wigs, etc.)

And here are my current/ongoing goals that will prolly be long-term past 2024:
      • only buy new dolls/props/clothes/etc. when financially able; always keep budget and small space in mind
      • re-organize storage for my doll items and keep improving function vs. aesthetic balance
      • update/post/share more doll content online as you improve your photography
      • update DoA doll profiles with better photos and character info

    12. Downsizing - I’ve been in the hobby nearly six years this year and to be honest I want to focus more on the dolls that I have here rather than by new ones. I want to cut down on the floating heads and project dolls I have and just focus on who I see as my main dolls. That doesn’t mean to say no new dolls this year because I already bought a head for a spare body I have but I’m trying to not do that as much as I have in previous years. Luckily I have 2-3 new hobbies I’ve picked up on in the past 3 years so those have shifted my focus a bit :sweat

    13. Surprisingly accomplished a lot last year
You can check last year's list here

My doll plans for 2024 are:
      ○ get my Ian a kimono
      ○ commission a face-up for my Kumako Ruru/someone to blush her bear parts

and the if the opportunity presents itself at the right time:
      ○ get a MayDoll Lemon Cat in WS
      ○ get a tan MDD through DreamChoice
      ○ get a PUYOODOLL Baby Kumako Egg #1 in milktea

      • x 2
    14. Totally late on this one but hey! XD

      I’m keeping it simple.

Get at least one complete outfit for every doll in my collection, and complete all the faceups and wigs I have left to do for myself and for friends :)

      • x 4
    15. I want to try and really start getting into the hobby! Things like finally painting the dolls I do have, looking at new dolls to buy (with my limited money), and accessorizing my current dolls. They're all a tad bit... naked. But clothing is expensive, and dolls moreso... watch me buy more bjds while ignoring clothing entirely, lol!

      • x 3
    16. A bit late but I'm making the resolution to just do more in the hobby in general. I haven't really done anything for the last 2 years or so. Everyone's collected sooo much dust :sweat

      Specifically I'd like to:
      • Take stock of what I have and clear out anything I won't use
      • Get everyone their proper wigs and eyes, I think there are 3? who don't have their proper wigs yet
      • Get everyone at least partially clothed
      • Finish 2 proper outfits
      • Finally get around to the heads that need modding to fit on their bodies

      • x 3
    17. I got my one and only doll alllll the way back in 2011 when my daughter was still very young and the years have flown by without me having much to show for the time, doll-wise! My daughter is now turning 15 (!!!) and I finally have more time to delve into all the things I want to explore. Here are my 2024 goals…

      1) Photograph and share once a month.
      2) Fully flesh out three of my characters (I use my one doll to play several characters!) including wardrobe.
      3) Make “doll closet” for storage.
      4) Knit 5 doll items.
      5) Sew 8 doll items.

I have been loving reading everyone’s goals!

      • x 2
    18. No more dolls! I’m going to have to resist really, really hard on this one.

I will try to get a new wig for my Soom Jinn and Lati White centaur.

      • x 3
    19. 1. Re-purchasing all my face-up supplies and painting my unpainted dolls
      2. Purchasing nicer wigs and eyes for all my dolls that feel incomplete
      3. Investing in quality outfits or making some
      4. Finding my grail doll :chibi

      • x 1
    20. I’ve been on somewhat of a doll/bjd hiatus and have just recently got back into the hobby. The last bjd I bought was in 2015, and I just bought some new bjds last and this year. My goal in 2024 is to just reacquaint myself with my dolls, maybe do a spring cleaning, and just enjoy them!

      • x 4
    21. Welcome back! It's hard to stay away, isn't it?

We're halfway through February and i'm doing much better than last year. Ordered a couple of wigs, haven't ordered the parts on my list yet, but they'll be next. And no new dolls (yet)! Also no sewing yet, but that'll come. i'm getting back to a couple of creative hobbies while i have a little time, so maybe sewing will come next. (i do have some minor mending and altering to do on my own clothing as well, so it has to come eventually.)

i did however realise that when my plans inevitably impel me to make an order, i should probably just get some heads. Most of my doll plans from here are hybrids anyway, so besides a couple of (unfortunately, expensive, but fairly so) specific dolls which could rerelease... i'm probably just going to be collecting heads this year. (Again, unless my budget drastically changes. Then all bets are off, lmao.)

    22. My main goal/resolution for 2024 is to simply focus more on the dolls I already have at home- instead of constantly buying new ones!
I honestly think I have a resin addiction or something- I LOVE buying new resin! But in 2024 I will be good- or at least try.... :abambi:

      2024 plans/projects/etc.:

      - Get a body for Shinji (my old DIM head)
      - Get a new body for Holden (my old AIL boy)
      - New face up for Kaito (my AIL Aya)
      - Face up/new wig for Naoto (JoyDoll Lai)
      - New wig for Shinji
      - New wig for Holden...maybe?
      - Take more photos
      - Start to sew stuff again

      And that's it- for now.

//Wishing everybody good luck sticking to your goals!! :kitty2

    23. As an update - I found something in my office.
      My FLOOR.
I had this crazy idea before the 'VID that we were going to MOVE! Right now! And I packed up a ton of books and stuck them in boxes in my office.
Then the 'VID happened, and well - all that went straight out of the window.
Four years later, I am finally seeing some real progress on the Wall of Doll (aka the office). The floor is clear. There's so much more room in here now. Tomorrow - we paint!

    24. Thanks, noblescientist! Yes, it’s good to be back and taking a bit of time to reorient myself around the changes in the hobby.

I am very much a beginner in sewing but half of what attracts me to dolls is the clothes, so I always have sewing ambitions. You sound much more advanced if you’re mending your own clothes - I wish you a great dolly year!

    25. .....now. You see. It's kind of funny that you replied when you did because i have JUST broken my doll embargo. oops. Mandarake strikes again (with an apparently rare, discontinued doll who will fit perfectly as one of my OCs... which luckily was not super expensive and cost about as much as the one i had previously settled on, which was the one full doll order i had figured i would make this year... so not a big step back, but it does sort of feel like one because it's only february!) Next will be the correct wig from my last order, which was mistakenly sent in the wrong colour. Maybe i can trim that one for my new arrival.

Anyway, there is still a great deal of sewing in my future. And a bunch of heads, and possibly a single full doll if that rerelease happens, but the remaining bodies can wait for now. And god am i gonna have to get started on faceups soon, sheesh.

    26. Well I got a camera and have a bunch of parts separated to be photographed in the minimising process
I boxed certain dolls and parts I have to find paperwork before sale and stored them safely in poly propylene storage boxes on top of my closet
Boxed and rearranged/stored or gave for sale much of the bulk of my out of theme dolls like fashion dolls etc
Tidied up and yarn and craft suplies
Boxed the 4 msd's and 4 of the 5 sd dolls I am going to keep each with their stuff and clothes in neat storage boxes each in its own box to have them tidy and accessible , on shelf I only display 1 bjd my Veritas and my huge vynil dolls like las reinas which are out of theme
I am happy with the progress as this way I know where everything is where are the ones I want to keep and where the ones I don't the room looks tidy and the situation is manageable still I have to go through a huge box of props which is ugly like a carbuncle in the middle of the room but well thought I'd share my progress.
I decided to not do any actual photography or crafting before completely tidy up everything , first tidy everything , then take photos fof things that have to go so I can sell them , then do any enjoyable stuff otherwise I will just blissfully play and the mess will stay a mess. So that's my update!

    27. These are things I wish I will get done in 2024, but might not finish completely:daisy

-Waiting my Bimong from last preorder, then I definitely need new wig for her, eyes, outfit, shoes..etc.
-Really want to order Harucasting msd boy or boys, this year, if preorder will happen(hope so)
-SoulDoll Boy MSD size, want him so badly in my collection.
-Clothes, wigs, outfits for future msd boys.
      - To paint face ups for my future msd boys and bimong girl.
      - And also want to buy some accessories for a bjd room, some coffee cups, maybe carpet, candles, books..

    28. A bit late to add, but here're ...
      My 2024 Doll Resolution :) :
1 - Adding new doll(s) to my crew
Opening 2 slots now, no more, which... 1doll already certain at February and I'm waiting for a certain company to open pre-order of the other.
2 - Resume my big dolly project.
This is as usual, I have been doing this project for 3years already, it might not finish this year, but I will make it one step closer.
3 - Tidy up my doll storage.
I think I need more space for some dolly stuff, and need to re-organize some prop. Will see if I can get this done.

      And that's it!
Not much changing except for the new doll resolution. I stop buying new doll for 3years (It's around when I start the big project in (2) ) So this will give my self something really new to work with :dance

    29. Updates!!

I'm doing pretty well so far! I miraculously managed to get a Williams basically on my bday in December, and just before the end of the year put my besties's DoD Delphine on layaway (which I just paid off) so I'm counting myself DONE with new dolls for the year. (dear god that Resiner head in the MP is tempting me though..help. :eusa_sile)

Charging ahead with goals, I ordered one of the bodies I need for a floating head along with a bunch of shoes/boots (to get free shipping with AC, but also shoes were a goal of their own xD) Saving can begin once more for 2 Mystic Kids bodies for 2 more floating heads I have.

Still need to get on faceups, modding, and selling heads/faceplates. Motivation and energy has been very low and life has not been kind. Grief is so heavy...I'm so thankful to have this hobby to bring me joy and distractions from sorrow and pain. ♥

    30. My main 2 goals:
      • Complete my Feeple60 Lunnula Moonbeams (1. Mod SP head, 2. Faceup artist, 3. find Feeple60 body, 4. Style her)
      • Complete my 2 Kitty Jolies! (1. Re-faceup both, 2. Style them)
      Some side quests:
      • Set up dioramas
      • Master my resin printer
      • Write more stories for my girls
      • Wire and suede everyone

      • x 2
    31. I keep meaning to post one, but I was waffling hard on my goals because I was trying not to overburden myself for 2024 with tons of ambitious projects I won't finish. But I will try to assemble a small one so I don't feel like I missed out on the chance to do it entirely.
      • Reduce my resin purchases dramatically this year to save money and focus purchases on essentials for at-home dolls.
      • Pay off the 2 MSD bodies on layaway- 2 months left. I'm using this to fend off other temptations. 1 body is a birthday gift for my partner, and the 2nd body is for a doll that's been waiting for a head for... 5 years.
      • The next priority would be eyes, wig, and faceup for above doll; and any other dolls lacking something of that nature. 1 taobao splurge purchase a year is acceptable!!!
      • Pruned my Wishlist down to just dolls I feel I can reasonably afford (not financially regret) and have ideas or intentions for.
      • Working more on my YOSD doll house, which I've already started doing and am happy with the progress! I'd like to have all the walls and floors covered and trimmed at least. The exterior is a stretch goal or for 2025.
      • Dye all (or as many as possible) the dolls waiting on it; full-body dye for Ellie, Quinn, and Aspen- and wing parts for March, Mariposa, & Olive. Tentative dip dye on Pisces. So that's roughly 7 dye projects.
      • Finish the face-ups in my drawer that were paused due to winter! SO many of them are close to finish! Also, do digital face-ups for the ones that don't have them yet.
      • I'm currently percolating if I want to shell 2 OCs, but am trying to wait until the end of the year to actually jump on it, because 1 is fashion model size (which is different from my usual scale of slim MSDs, require special sizing, and they're fairly pricey for msds...) and they both suggest the possibility of wanting other OCs from those stories as dolls too. which is, you know... expensive.
      • Go through my doll items and do that spring cleaning I've been postponing- put up more sales posts for that. I did start this, which I'm supremely proud of because I have terrible anxiety! Woo!
      Exceptions to these limits:
      • Actively looking for the grail head for my partner. Trying to hold out to find one 2ndhand, I really don't want to buy a whole body for just the head again...
      • If it's a doll on my wishlist that is being discontinued, or it appears 2ndhand exactly how I wanted it, and I can comfortably afford to put it on layaway, and my partner gives me their blessing- then... m-maybe? :sweat
So far I've been tempted 4 times by various releases/pre-orders/sales, and it's only March 1st. *_* It'll be a miracle if I can get through 6 months without caving at this rate.

I'll add to this if I get a shiny new idea I can reasonably accomplish.

      • x 3
    32. I need to finish Circe and work on my new Super Senior Delf head (Romance Vino) this month, then find him a body, eyes, wig, clothes. I don't really have space for him, so I need to stop buying more dolls and just create and buy things for the existing ones :aangel:

      • x 2
    33. Wall of Doll: Probably will be scuttled/changed. Turns out, I have way more books I want to keep than I thought. Books are going into the office first, then dolls. It's going to be a little wall of doll, at best. I was totally right about the old desk taking up the entire room. The new desk takes up so much less space, and there's lots of room in here now. Looking forward to having that big old beast of a desk in Craftorama room, because it will be perfect for crafts and sewing. I got an ironing pad to put in a drawer when not in use, so I don't need a separate ironing board. Plus, doll clothes, so it's not like I'm ironing big pieces of fabric here.

The office has been cleaned, and the furniture rearranged. Two work buddies are now in the office with me. My coworkers were freaked out during our on-camera meeting. :wiggle
      [IMG]

A friend provided an amazing suggestion - since my office was a bedroom, I'm removing the closet doors and putting dolls in the closet. Perfect display area: out of the sun.

Spouse and I took a week vacation in... May? I gotta check my calendar. Craftorama room will be done then.
Look at me, getting stuff done this year. Yay!

    34. Because I never really fallow my doll resolutions my 2024 goals are modest:

      Redoing my Doll Chateau Colin.
He's my very first doll and my only not pre-planned character. I have fallen in love with his head sculpt, but I was never entirely comfortable with the wiry body. Back than I was afraid of making a hybrid doll. So, I'll get him a new Doll Leaves body and redo his faceup, buy or make some new clothes and so on. This goal seems modest anough.

I would like to finish my unfinished doll projects. It seems I'm unable to finish anything these days.

No new floating heads. Well, I already know I won't be able to keep this resolution...I tryied at least...

I would like to get into 3D printing

    35. Welp, I’m keeping goals simple because the mister and I are moving to Canada this month due to a job change. Once we’re settled in our permanent place, everyone gets a spa day, restringing, complete default outfit and flesh out their character / backstory. That’s probably plenty.

    36. March update! I've updated my original post above.

Turns out that I'll have less free time this year, and I've been fairly busy with RL in the first quarter and not done as much as I'd wanted. So BJD progress is going to be slower this year.

So far I completed one goal and broke another goal.

The broken goal... Resin no-buy lasted 2 months... I broke it by preordering a doll head at the start of March. I dropped the ball here! :eusa_naug But I'm picking it up again and will keep observing no-buy for this year. One of the preorders I made last year (a doll body) has just shipped, so I'll have a new doll to work on for the next few months and keep me from getting more itchy fingers.

The completed goal... I made a static site for my doll profiles and I'm quite pleased with it! Here's the link to it. :3nodding: I've also given myself a stretch goal to make more webpages for the site this year.

No action on the others yet. I did a huge sewing speedrun in January (pics here and here in the Workshop) but haven't done anything about my actual sewing goals. I also did some aesthetics on my own dolls in Feb/March -- I always love painting dolls, but I might drop my plan to offer faceup commissions since I have less time and I'd rather spend it doing other BJD things.

It's still early in the year, plenty of time yet~

    37. March Update: I really like that I made this decision. I got all of the first season of my story photographed, and the panels set up, and the words added, over 1000 panels ready to go up!!

I am working on writing season two currently The story definitely starts to take a twist near the end of season two and I am excited about that. Notes for season three being scribbled down. I have plans

Also I need more dolls. I now have a new buy dolls goal added because I have to fill character roles for the story. I only need one more new doll for season two. But I will need four for season three... I love this new excuse to buy more dolls!

This years goals are going well, much better then last years!

    38. I would like to learn sewing this year. I want to make a Comtesse Greffulhe's lily dress or a lanvin robe de style for my 1/6 girl.
Wig making. Finish those saran hair and try to deal with mohair.
Doll house or just furniture making? Not sure about that……

    39. I think I'm actually on-track to get these done this year!

      1. It ended up being an even smaller iMda, named Angie, not Angelique (Angie is a clear reference to Angelique being the inspiration sculpt, with similar features), but I thought a 1.7 was even better for my purposes. Luckily I loved the default face-up so that's one less shipping expense to worry about.

      2. All done except for shoes! Also got a few extra pieces for Leonie (or a future Yo-sized doll).

      3. Need to get matching fabric for Leonie's dresses.

    40. I’ve been waffling on setting actual goals since January, so the best thing to do is set a few and adjust from there:

      Purchase goals:
      - Continue my resin low/no-buy, no new resin since February 2023, and this year I have no plans to buy any until it’s time for Christmas shopping. I’ve outlined a couple of specific exceptions, just in case they happen but otherwise it’s firm.
      - Stand up the resin crew. Current count 14/24 standing. (still buying stands)
      - Severely rein in playline doll purchases and stick to a much tightened wishlist for these and for other collectible dolls.
      - Spend doll and hobby budget on infrastructure this year. I’ll be buying the things I need to put my existing collection on display the way I really want them to be.

      Collection goals:
      - get the resin dolls unpacked Completed!
      - set up all the BJD with magnets glued, swap parts swapped, give each some eyes, a wig, clothes and footwear. Then start painting faces and blushing. None of this needs to be a ‘final form’ level of styling, but everyone needs to get to this level of display-ready. It’s time. I’d like to take a collection photo at the end of the year that has everyone at least on their path to looking more finished.
      - identify and confirm the doll lines and companies I currently have interest in & re-follow them.

And the biggest, which I’m doing in steps this year: Set up my doll room. I have a parlour and a concept and the sun protection in place at this point so the ideal will be setting up vignettes for the resin dolls to all be on display, and then making some smaller displays for my other types of doll collections so I can seasonally swap out the dolls and props on display within an area.

      2024 doll room updates:
March 1 - 4 moodboards later and it is still chaos, but most of the dolls are unpacked.
April 1 - Playline low-buy is started, most dolls and their paraphernalia are now moved to the parlour.
April 18 - half of the resins are standing. Some decisions have been made, many cardboard-box mock-ups for display and storage furniture sizes and shapes have been tested. 1 etagere and 1 console for other areas were purchased and set up.
      May 1 - next update

    41. I'm keeping it pretty simple this year.

      1. Finish paying off the layaway for Impldoll Azalea (only two payments left)
      2. Get her a faceup
      3. Get clothes commissioned for her and some of my other dolls

      • x 2
      • Don't spend too much money so I've got enough if my grail doll becomes available (fingers crossed he does!)
      • Learn to sew! I really want to be able to see my own doll clothes!

    42. May update... also updated my OP (quoted above).

The milestone was finishing goal #2. The flight studio was a "failed goal" in that I didn't meet my targets (only managed one incomplete photoshoot), but also not fail because it was an experiment from the beginning, I tried it out and discovered it wasn't viable, and most importantly I wasn't enjoying it at all. I learned a bunch of things and blogged about it on my BJD blog, and I'll call it completed.

I've decided to drop goal #4 of offering faceup commissions. I don't have the energy and mental bandwidth to start a new endeavour this year, I'd rather focus on sewing and playing with the crew.

Two goals left this year... do lots of sewing, do lots of NOT buying dolls :whee: and keep tinkering with my BJD website. I've gotten back into sewing and hope to make some progress.
(edited to add) I'm keeping a project journal here, I hope it'll help me finished unfinished things and start other new things, including sewing.

    43. May update for 2024 Resolution
1 - Adding new doll(s) to my crew : Finish, now my doll family status has turn to CLOSE.
2 - Resume my big dolly project : Under going. Very slowly but 2 picture had done.
3 - Tidy up my doll storage : Still a longggg way to go.

    44. So far,
      1. Find a name for my first doll.
      2. Change her eyes to the fancy ones I ordered.
      3. Get a mohair wig for Mina. Not sure about this... the original vision I had for her was long black straight, but she came with this Merida-esque mahogany red one that I fell in love with, and it's sort of blended into her character now. I'd probably end up getting the exact same wig except in natural fibers. Maybe it's worth it, but I don't feel like I need it, and there's also a chance it might turn out worse.
      4. Save up for the second doll. I set out with the idea of getting 2-3 dolls relatively quickly, and then acting very conservative on new buys. Fewer is better in my book, but this also means tougher choices.
      5. Set up a dolly website on Neocities.
      6. Learn to restring. I want to do this around the end of the year. I don't want to wait until I have a floppy doll on my hands, but I might put this off until Lisette is home (that would still mean a first restring around the year mark, which is OK).
      7. Make a little bit of something. If not clothes, at least props (I think jewelry is accessible enough, but since I know bookbinding I could try sewing tiny books! I would have to buy Bible paper, though.)

    45. Goal: Craftorama room. Craftorama room. I MUST put together Craftorama room. This will involve moving out of Craftorama's planned room (we sleep there now), maybe a little painting, consolidating and moving all my doll/toy/sewing/craft crap into the room, and setting up stations - sewing, airbrush, face-ups/crafting, and photography corner.
Plan: spend a little time every day doing at least one thing towards Craftorama room. Pitching a box, moving a thing, something.
Hopeful completion date: June (?) 2024
May 2024: Hopeful completion date is getting pushed back. Craftorama room is probably going to take longer. Vacation is almost over. We have primer on the walls of the master bedroom, but we're both old and in pain today, so not much getting done. We might be able to move into the master bedroom before I return to work, but Craftorama room will be nowhere near ready.

Goal: Wall of Doll - re-do office so that one full wall is lined with shelves that I can display most of my dolls on. This will involve pulling everything out of the office, moving all the furniture around, repainting, removing the horrible wall border, putting up a mural, putting up curtains or covering the windows in some sort of peel-screen, and installing shelves.
Plan: same as Craftorama room - do one thing every day. It can be big or small, but I want to do one thing towards completion.
Hopeful completion date: Also June 2024, as Spouse and I will likely be doing both at once.

May 2024: Kinda sorta scrapped. I love the idea, but I already have bookshelves. I will retrofit dolls to bookshelves, because I refuse to throw away perfectly good bookshelves.

Goal: no new doll/clothes/wigs/shoes pre-orders/purchases until Black Friday of 2024, with one exception - if Impldoll releases a new 68 cm female body. I'm still spiteful.
Plan: SPITE. It will carry me through.
Editing to add: This may get pushed back to Xmas 2024. The sales that have popped off lately have really fueled the spite. Hooooo boy, am I spiteful right now...

May 2024: Everyone knew this goal was never gonna happen, right? Yeah. Spite was not enough. I have slowed down, but I have not stopped.

      Goal: cataloging my collection.
Plan: Airtable listing of dolls with links to original listings, saving PDF printouts of website sales, and making little charms to put on each doll with numbers to match the listings in my document.
May 2024: I have exactly one doll in Airtable. In good news, I found the perfect template. In bad news, I have a lot of dolls. Also, because I love to hybrid, I have created a lot of extra work for myself:
      • I want to put the full doll together and take a picture
      • Then, I want pictures of the individual head and body separately.
      • Finally, I want to put the doll pieces back in their hybrid position and track who is where (what head is on which body).

    46. I think my dolls resolutions this year (I know it's june.) is to get my first LUTS. also finish the sewing projects I want to do. I have a bunch of patterns now and I really should get working on them.

    47. 6-month updates:

I did sell my 65cm boy body and put a 62cm boy body with jointed hands on order! I also got my Comibaby Misa a body! I got most of my extraneous dolls/bodies sold, too, though I've hit my limit on the tax-free amount of money exchanged for the year, so selling my last 2 is on hold for now.

I haven't had the chance to work on sewing or faceups yet, as we moved interstate at the beginning of April and my dolls have been in storage since the move. I've also been a bit bad RE: not ordering new dolls this year until more of my current crew is complete. A fellow forum member sold me their DDS Anthy for a very reasonable price and I fell in love with an artist head after seeing it on the Impldoll instagram page, so I impulse bought her, too. Whoops!

I've been told in no uncertain terms that I am forbidden from pining for new dolls again until late September at the earliest in the lead-up to my birthday lmao. I'm still aiming to send out at least Phoebe and Marcie for faceups before the end of the year, as Phoebe is blank and Marcie's faceup is completely wrong, and maybe send Aiyu out early next year. I'm also wanting to do some faceups on my anime girls myself this fall once we move into our next house and the humidity here calms down a bit.

Oh, and I still have a mighty craving to make some dolly yukata before the end of the year, also for the aforementioned anime girls.

    48. Six month check:

      1. It's at two purchased this year so far. One incoming from last year, one who will hopefully be ready soon! And an off-topic one I still need to assemble and paint that'll be my desk buddy at work. (Hey, when you work in tech, you need a rubber ducky. Or a robo bunny.) I've been almost entirely un-tempted by other dolls!

      2. I touched up Suha's faceup which was most in need of it. I think I'm going to leave Fiadh's alone for now, the only ding is a spot on her nose and honestly, I think it looks cute and adds a bit of a "shine spot" which fits her wintry vibe. I do need to put eyelashes on Megu, though.

      3. I have a wig for both Cattleya (incoming from last year) and Fang (ordered in Jan)! Well, Fang's wig is here. Cattleya's was delayed, but hopefully it'll ship out soon. They should also both have eyes ready to go. Faceups will happen when they're here.

      4. I went to the queer reader con. Sorry, DCD, but I had a blast hanging with my mom! Can't say no to books and meeting cool authors.

      5. Been doing so! Thalassus can now choose between pants and shorts! I'm trying to do something for the sewing challenge each month.

      6. No luck on the loft bed. I did find a cute fireplace, though? And I've been meaning to upcycle a large prescription bottle into a wastebasket deal.

      7. Still deciding on this one.

      8. They've been hanging in the cabinet a lot, but I do want to take them out and sit with them more. I did some photos early in spring, but I want to get more done. Alas, my hobbies cycle and I've been bit by the quilting bug recently.

    49. there's a queer readercon? I never heard of that! I go to the readercon in boston. also good work on your goals!

    50. It's a tiny one in the south near some relatives of mine, so we did a double con weekend and family visit! I hadn't heard of reader cons before, but it was neat. That's cool that there's one in Boston!

      Thank you!

    51. Bit late in the year, but I'm slowly coming back to the hobby!

My main resolution for a long time was tracking down and saving for the SDGR body I wanted for my floating volks head of many years! But I finally recently did that so now I have no plans to purchase any new dolls and will be trying to focus on the ones I have!

      1. Figure out semi final wig/eye combos for my dolls.
      2. Buy/put together one complete outfit per doll, including shoes. No more barefoot dolls!

(I fell into the trap of buying random pieces here and there and now have pieces that don't match/fit the way I want oops :doh so I'm basically starting over but with a clear focus and goal)

      3. Get bodysuits for my vinyl girls!
(I've been super scared to dress them but haven't gotten around to buying these to avoid staining haha)

Overall, my goals are aimed towards mostly maintaining my current collection and getting it to a place where I'm happy before buying any new dolls! Gotta make sure the ones at home are well taken care of!

      • x 4
    52. I'd like to start dedicating time to sewing. No one is making the type of clothing I'm looking for in doll sizes, so I can either fix that by making it myself or just keep complaining. :P

      • x 3
    53. I feel that way about one of my doll's styles. it's hard to find Gyaru clothing. what kinds of clothing are you looking for?

      • x 2
    54. Oh gosh, that is SO true, too!! Everything I do find is kind of outdated, too. Gyaru style has evolved so much since the 2000s. @_@ I feel like BJD clothing is always a few years behind.

I'm looking for clothing that looks like clothing from brands like Blumarine, For Love and Lemons, and Reformation (so just shamelessly matching my IRL wardrobe :XD:), but I feel like all of the ruffly/girly clothing is more on the lolita side.

      • x 2
    55. my problem with he lolita clothing is I want the old school gothic stuff and not the modern stuff. both my dolls are my oc's from my unpublished comic so they are 2000's styles. but sometimes they were more modern clothing. still I do find it rewarding to make clothing for them. I've never heard of those clothing brands. but I'll have to look them up!

    56. I killed two long time hobby goals with 1 stone: get a volks, and get my grail.

      Current goals are:
-Buy my clothes, wigs, and eyes before more dolls.
-Get new face ups for 3 heads
      -Get body for a head.

      • x 3
    57. - Impldoll Susu is currently in transit here. Goal is to get an outfit for her, and finish her chair (need to assemble, paint and upholster it)

That's about it. I keep my goals low since I get very overwhelmed with everything due to life and disability
