Well now... So lets start off with Kilian, my Saint, on a not banned 66cm body. kilian standing on own by SteamWitch, on Flickr
Well, I guess my plan to replace Mirodoll bodies has been brought forward. Although mine are not on the ban list, they’re pretty much unposeable even with sueding and restringing so I think I’ll just use them for mod practice and buy my guys new bodies when I can. EDIT: I’ve been told by mods that the 68cm boy body is not banned either. To be honest, I still feel kinda bad, like I’m somehow complicit even though I couldn’t have known when I bought them.
I got the same reply about the 68cm boy. I guess it's not on the "allowed" list because it's not listed on the homepage any more ... but wow, that whole thing was unexpected. @Spuggey I don't think there was anything to know about when the old bodies were released. It's only the more recent ones that are dodgy. Don't beat yourself up over something that probably hadn't even happened when you bought your dolls.
You know I bought a secondhand 60cm body the day that the news came out. I got home and was looking around on DOA and saw the banned list! Thank goodness the body i got was not banned but still its sad that thus all came about . Well now I dont feel so bad about modding the neck...
I don't think they are recasts. The aesthetic is really similar, but when they lay the dolls' photos on top of one another, the breasts were different sizes, the shoulders didn't match up, and a bunch of little details like that were different. What i think happened is they rendered a new 3d sculpt based on the photographs from the other company. Because of all the small differences (which the moderators admitted to in their post), it is technically a knockoff, not a counterfeit. Knockoffs are legal. Also, as others have pointed out, there have been dolls from different companies in the past that looked eerily similar to one another, that were proven later to have been sculpted completely independently. I understand their hyper-vigilance given the Luo fiasco, but I think they jumped the gun a little here. I really think things like this ought to be considered innocent until proven guilty, with the burden of proof on the accuser. Otherwise, we could unwittingly hurt legitimate companies.
I've rather liked the Annie mold. Does anyone have pictures of her? I'd like to see her with a custom face up.
Mirodoll runs a page on facebook where they put up WIP pictures of their new designs. Apparently, someone has used existing dolls as a reference which is normal when you're studying art and design. But if you put your own designs for sale, they shouldn't look too similar. This wasn't done on purpose, just a mistake. Glad my Miro kids are still on topic. I trust the ones with the minimee heads on Miro bodies (60 cm boy and 61 cm new boy) are also okay to discuss here .
As far as I know they are a-okay. I wish they would reword the the banner headline because it makes it sound like they are all banned.
For those who are interested, the 68cm boy body was out of listing for some tweaking and now it's back. As for the situation: I'm not sure about how well it's been handled. Miro surely has shown that they want to stay in the community by taking away the listings for the three bodies. I'd be curious to see the comparisons between physical bodies. ALSO, and this is more a of a joke: I have a JID from 2012, it's one of the WORST posing bodies ever (only beaten by the April Story SD13, which is BEAUTIFUL, but HELLISH to posE), if they had to copy, couldn't they at least copy something that posed better? XD In any case, I'm going to order a 60cm girl body with small chest tomorrow (the discount is too tempting and I had been planning on buying that body for a while now!) so I'll be back soon. It'll have a 5stardoll head, I hope the match is not too bad.
Since it was out and now back, is the tweaked version included in the ban or not? Do you think mods will treat it as new or old?
I actually have NO idea O.o... But I seem to remember that it had been put back BEFORE the ban? I need to check.
Nope. I checked when the ban was enacted and the 68cm wasn't there. But it's their second body ever, just been tweaked ... it's not a new release, the ban is about dodgy new stuff that may have come from heaven knows where. This one has been around before, so I guess / hope it's still okay.
I have been looking at some dolls by Miro for a long time. The whole situation is very confusing, so I suppose if I ever get one, share, and get dinged for it, then maybe it will just be a slap on the wrist. From what I can tell, whatever the situation is, it's not recasting, but some sort of surprise new guidelines about 3 D modeled sculpts. I used to really like some dolls that another company did until they started doing 3 D modeled sculpts, now, I just don't like them. I love the handmade sculpts a lot! Does anyone know if the Muscular Girl pairs well with the elf, Lightning? I love how that body looks and the long elf ears would look really great as an elf character inspired by Sebille, from the video game Divinity Original Sin II. I'm not a gamer, but my bf was showing me some artwork. Usually I don't get very excited about game characters but she looks really neat. I tend to ponder, plot and plan for dolls forever. I'd love to add another girl or two to my crew, but I always get put off if the bodies just look boring and meh.... but that muscular girl body is sculpted by Sick Trees I think, and that would make it even more special. What do you guys think?
hi everyone - been away from the forum for a while due to Uni - totally shocked by all this scandal on my return! My mirodoll Mika, Gloria, is my favourite dolly (shhh don't tell the others!) Although I changed her eyes, miro did a lovely faceup for her (or better than I can do anyway) And I've only just seen Sally - she'll be perfect for my 60cm headless mirodoll body which has been freaking visitors out for so long - she's really cute I think UPDATE just ordered Sally's head with faceup (can always wipe it!) AND Jared's head with no faceup - he's awesome I think, and will look good on my Dollmore 70cm body (currently with a Kasi Dan head but I'd like a smaller, more boyish and less muscular body for that head really - probably mirodoll 66 or 61cm - when I can afford it) Gloria by elve, on Flickr
I don't have the Lightning head nor the muscular girl body, but the muscular girl body is a 66cm body and I know the Lightning head is pretty big on the normal 60cm body, so I'd think it would look pretty good on the larger one! Just PM Mirodoll on Facebook and I'm sure if you ask them if it will fit, they will answer you pretty fast (within 12 hours, since their time is different in China) Grats on ordering Sally! Your Mika is also very pretty! I'm waiting for a secondhand Mika myself and I'm super excited! ^_^
thank you @cchenique Mika is very cute but mine really needs a restring she's so floppy - I will put it off for as long as possible though oooh I should add @cchenique - Mika also has a big head - the wig she's wearing is a 9" for an antique-style china doll, from ebay
My Wind is pretty floppy too, haha. I tried tightening her through her head cap without unstringing her, but it wasn't enough. I guess I may need to try again!
yes they seem to use thin elastic for the size of the doll - I'm going to get something a tiny bit thicker (bearing in mind the width inside the limbs isn't much sometimes) from ebay - bungee shock cord it's ususally listed as - it's quicker getting it from a local seller than a doll company, which is why I get eyes from ebay reborn sellers and in stock dolls as a rule (my Mika was in stock thank goodness) I'm so impatient
@cchenique Thanks for that! Yeah.... this thread seemed dead. I am not a fan of Facebook, but, I did some exploring to try to figure out some things.... the community there seems to have a direct relationship to the company, so that was refreshing to learn. Yep, once I am ready to decide if she's the 'next' I'll be more serious to ask. I hate to ask a company a question before I have the funds and my mindset ready. I have too many resin friends in need of faceups/blushings and I'm backed up on sewing while the machine is in the shop.... so after the doll I'm currently planning, I'm going to start to be very serious about this muscular girl body. Most girl bodies and heads look very similar to my eyes, so a different sort of design really catches my attention! I'm thinking a super-fit elf would be very, very cool and fun to style.
Someone in the Mirodoll Facebook group told me Mika's head is 22.7cm. I ended up finding a wig I ordered on Etsy that is for pullip-sized heads, so it should be big enough hehe.
I agree! The muscular girl body is much different from sculpts from other companies. They have also been working on a mermaid tail for the 1/3 sized girls. It's been done before, but it's still something new! I would recommend buying from Mirodoll when they are having a sale, since they do a 40-50% off sale like 3 times a year. :P
I've got a Mirodoll Anne. I think I'm her third or fourth owner. Naughtia - Mirodoll Anne by Kelli, on Flickr She awaits a fresh face up...and wig. Dozen wigs in my wig box and not one of them fits her head.
she looks really fun @Kelli I love a doll which fires my imagination to think of something different to normal - very inspiring Meanwhile I felt less than inspired at 4am last night, having battled for HOURS to restring my miro 1/3 girl body on the floor next to my bed, as I only have a tiny room - so I had to get it done before I could go to bed! I got some 'bungee shock cord elastic' from an ebay seller, and swapped out the 3.5mm they used in her body - put that in her arms instead. The floor bit was a struggle for me as I'm old with a bad hip and can't kneel down - didn't think that through did I but I didn't want to risk getting resin dust on the bed. Hey I now have thighs of steel LOL - think I'll feel it tomorrow! Anyway - the REAL problem with the 1/3 girl I restrung last night, FYI, was the hooks for the feet! Such a small detail, and yet so important! Think I might invest in some jewellery pliers or new hooks or something for the next big restring! Or hope they used different hooks. I had to use tiny scissors and all my strength to open up the hooks in the end as it was impossible to hook them onto correct tension, 4mm elastic - they had used the same hooks for the feet as for the hands, and yet the well inside the foot to the connector was much deeper than on the hands, so it was impossible to hook an unmodified hook onto taught elastic - I even struggled to get the feet OFF initially as I'd tightened the original elastic a lot at the head end. Which does explain why the new doll was floppy! Only way they could attach the feet. Or maybe it's just lil old me? Oh well - it's done, I got a few hours sleep, and now waiting for the Sally head to complete the doll - which I think I will be unimaginatively calling Sally As I've not restrung a doll for years (and always hated the job) I wanted to do this body for practice, before tackling Gloria, my floppy mirodoll Mika I think I might order some black elastic for her anyway, now I know what thickness I need. PHEW
well I bought a set of cheap 'mini pliers' from wilko and set to with Gloria (my Mika) - and yes the pliers were essential several times! I strung her with the 4mm elastic cord again and finally came to put her head on - but the knot was huge and solid thankfully the pliers came in handy again hauling the knot through the neck hole, then I slipped the head-hook through it and breathed a sigh of relief! She is probably strung too tightly now - I used pliers to wind the ribbon pulling the string/elastic down from her knee to her ankle, because my hands weren't strong enough - so that is super-tight - at least she can sit unsupported now though. And I tried a new wig on her, which is a 9" vintage doll's wig from an ebay seller - and I love her even more now Gloria (mirodoll Mika) by elve, on Flickr
When I tightened the strong at the neck of my MiroDolls, it wouldn't fit through the head either lol. I had to take each knot one at a time and pull as hard as I could to get them all through, then pull the hook up separately. I am so scared to remove their heads if I need to change their eyes or something lol.
well I didn't attach the arm elastic to the head hook so that was one less knot to worry about! But someone on the fb miro customer group has just advised me that a lot of bjd companies have the knot inside the body cavity, and just a loop of elastic/string going up to the head hook - which is a great idea! I've not strung enough dolls to realise that but I'll bear it in mind in future - although for now I am going to put off restringing any of my mirodolls for a looooooong time I did try just hauling the elastics up to make both of my mirodoll bodies tighter but the string is just too thin really - they used 3mm for the arms, and 3.5mm for the body, whereas I put the 3.5mm in the arms and used 4mm for the body - but that made the knot even bigger, thicker and more solid, so I wish I'd thought to leave it inside the body cavity!
I made the same mistake when I started to mess with the strings in the doll. When I learned and changed to having the knot for the arm loop inside the chest and doing the same for the bigger loop for the legs, torso and head also go into the same area of the chest, managing the S-hook was soooo much easier and a lot less trouble to remove the head for changing or adjusting the eyes. It's one of those little details that often gets overlooked when you are new, and people forget to tell you. I'm glad y'all sorted your dolls though. It takes a bit of fiddling with them sometimes as each doll is different, even when they are the same sculpt from the same company, there are always tiny differences.
sewed some easy pj's for Gloria, my mirodoll Mika and she stands like a rock I am STILL recovering from my injuries though! All the skin flaked off my knuckles as they swelled up so much from the strain of restringing her - and although the bruises on my thighs (where I had to brace my elbows) have faded, the skin is flaking there too - I'm fragile She's worth it though - love her so much! Awesome! by elve, on Flickr
yay got my mirodoll order through yesterday so had fun with wigs and eyes for hours! I've had this mirodoll body for years but not found a head I loved till I saw mirodoll Sally - and yes she's even cuter in person - I love her Their faceup is certainly better than I could do, although the eyelashes aren't great quality - but at that price I am very happy with it! Body and head are 'normal pink' but the body has mellowed some over the time I've had it. The head is a strange fit though - a bit gappy and could do with glue sueding maybe one day. I had to swap out the head hook which the body came with (nearly 2yrs ago) as it was too big to fit through the neck hole! Thankfully the old big hook fit fine through my Luts Abadon head so phew - crisis averted - I should keep a stock of hooks too I guess. She looks cute in this wig, and there's another - she looks good in most of them TBH Sally came home! by elve, on Flickr
thank you that is another good reason for me to order Island Doll's little sheep, Nuan Nuan! I also got 2 other mirodoll heads; Jared and Iris And can you believe they're all 'normal-pink'? I'm very happy with them anyway, although not sure what to do with Jared (or Hoagie as I've called him) since the wig I bought for him is too small - I think he'll be a red-headed Scottish man eventually....? I like that he's a mature sculpt - he could be anything from 30 to 75 years old! 3 Heads in the box by elve, on Flickr
oh and gorgeous Gloria (mirodoll Mika) changed her wig again - I think this one is my favourite so far (dollzone one) Curtis is now bald as she stole his hair Awesome Gloria! by elve, on Flickr
I just paid off a Mirodoll 60cm girl body and am in the process of buying a 68cm body for Kylo. Any advice, other than restring and suede? I thought about modding the shoulders, they seem really sharp in comparison to the pictures, like they won't pose well at all.
This is pretty random, but does anyone have any ideas as to what heads may work with the Mirodoll 68 cm thick neck body? I have recently received one and it does not fit the head I bought for it.
Hello! This seems random but I am wondering if the mature head would be able to fit a thick-necked body? As I quite like the sculpt.
I had a Dollshe boy head on it (Aramis, for M18 and the other big boy bodies), with no modification required.
Dollshe's site is here: Home - DollShe craft But there are also many available in the secondhand market. You're looking for 28M and 18M size (aka "classic" size). (May also be listed under 1/3 or SD size). You're NOT looking for "fashion" size!
Sorry for bothering you again but do you know if I could, perhaps, purchase the heads individually on the site? Is there an option to do that? Sorry.
Dollshe is going through one of his periodic changes of focus -- right now, there isn't much available in the shop (as you can see when you look at the website). You might check with BJDivas, who is a dealer for Dollshe: https://bjdivas.com/?v=7516fd43adaa Dollshe discussion thread here: Dollshe Discussion - Part Fifteen
Hello everyone! Im debating getting a 68 cm boy body in tan for a hybrid. Anyone have pics of it? The body or color would be great to see owner pics of ^.^
oooh sorry I didn't see this till today! Also sorry I have no idea as I haven't as yet tried the head on the dollmore model body I bought it for - I just feel so guilty removing the default head LOL - So 'Hoagie' is still in a box waiting to be realized one day, when I have more money!
Anybody have Hector? I really enjoy his face for some reason, and I'm considering adding him to the family. Though I am crossing my fingers to find one secondhand since I hate paying international shipping haha.
Hi! Has anyone here done layaway for Mirodoll? I'm having trouble. I followed the instructions on the website and sent them an email requesting to put a white skin 60cm girl body with small chest on layaway, but it's been over a week since I sent it without response. I'm worried she's not going to be on sale soon
Does anyone know the measurements of the neck and shoulders of the 66cm mascular female body. I couldn't find it on the website. Thank you in advance.
hope you sorted this by now but don't worry - mirodoll regularly have sales on their products! (Like more often than not in fact). You can try contacting them on facebook too Mirodoll again I hope you sorted this by now but try the facebook link above if you need more information Meanwhile I'm so pleased I finally got around to swapping the head off my Dollmore Kasi Dan (who I wasn't really that in love with, although kept trying to convince myself he was OK). I had to use 2 pliers to make the head hook smaller but the mirodoll Jared head fits it perfectly now. Great mobility although it sits high being a smaller neck hole than the Dollmore Glamour Model head. He's been called 'Hoagie' ever since I saw his photos online - still needs a faceup though - yikes... Such a great 'mature' looking sculpt though I love him Hooray! 'Hoagie' gets a body! by elve, on Flickr
Thank you, I got it all figured out! It was a syncing issue with my gmail account, I'd turned off sync somehow on my phone and wasn't getting ANY emails, not just Mirodoll's.
The company had a really nice sale that I learned about just in time. I've been thinking about getting Lightning for a LONG time, and finally ordered her. I have no clue about the wait time, but I'll make sure to share a photo of her when she gets home. I think she will get a first wig and eyes from the stash. It's been years that I've been wanting her, so it's about time! I had to take a break for awhile from a lot of things that would normally bring me joy, so I'm very excited to 'catch up' with BJDs and the forum. I ordered her the small bust in addition and heel feet since it wasn't too much to add-on.
I have owned my Lightening for awhile now she is a really lovely sculpt! I want to swap her body out with one that is more ethereal or has exagerated proportions. Perhaps maybe I can switch out her hands & feet. I hope you are enjoying your dolly!
