Adopt a Newbie! In the spirit of good will and fellowship, we would like to invite our forum old-timers to once again participate in our "Adopt a Newbie" regifting event! Many of us who have been in this hobby for a good long while have accumulated far more than we need, or sometimes want, to have. Surely, we all have things in new or like-new condition that we'd be happy to pass along to someone just starting out in the hobby! Volunteer old-timers will be matched up with a Newbie (or more!) of similar doll interests. Once you have the information about your Newbie, you will assemble a nice little gift for them. Do your best to include something that will suit their dolly wishes or needs! Criteria for being a volunteer: member for more than 3 years be in good forum and MP standing indicate to what kind of newbie you are prepared to re-gift (large boys, mini girls, tiny anthros, etc.) indicate how many newbies you can handle! make sure that you're able to carry through on your commitment to your assigned Newbie – no flaking once you've signed up! can send your gift by September 10th There will be no dollar minimum or maximum on the worth of your gift. We will send you information about your newbie(s) so you can find out what they are interested in or what they need. Do your best to make their wishes come true, and, most importantly - have fun! OLDIE SIGNUPS Are you a Newbie? With a welcoming spirit, we would like to invite our Newbies to benefit from the hoarding collecting habits of their forum elders. When you buy your first doll, the first thing you think of is the creation of the special or unique look you will give your doll. It's a labor of love to pull it all together. It takes a lot of time, some patience and in most cases money. Having a basic piece of clothing, the right wig or eyes, takes that new piece of resin one step closer to your vision. We would like you to reap a small reward from our years of collecting and we hope that it helps you along just a wee bit. If you are new to the forum, and new to doll ownership, please join us for this event. Criteria for being a Newbie: member for 6 months or less in good forum and MP (if applicable) standing have at least one doll or have a doll on the way (On layaway counts! But please make sure that your doll is actually in production/going to be produced, not something like a Kickstarter that is not yet fully funded.) Now, if you have been collecting BJDs for five years but are new to DoA, please be honest, as you are not a hobby Newbie, and should refrain from signing up. NEWBIE SIGNUPS ARE NOW CLOSED *We will do our very best to match up like-minded old-timers and newbies. Matches will be handled on a first-come, first-serve basis, and we may have more Old-Timers sign up, or more Newbies. Because of this, not everyone may be able to participate! Sign-ups for this event end on August 30th, 11:59PM EDT (UTC -4:00).
Oh no! I've missed the requirements by 2 months (still a noob, since January, just not active). OTL In any case, I wish everyone who participates the very best, and hopefully everyone has a fun time of giving and receiving!
Ah, I remember this. The clothes I got are still the only ones my doll has, so thanks again to my Oldie! Unfortunately, now i am caught in that weird zone where I can't be either. Oh well, good luck to everyone!
@Zardi thank you for joining! We will have to wait until all (or at least most of) the entries are in, so that we can make the best matches possible. Assignments will be sent to oldies after signups are closed, so it would be August 30 at the very earliest, though most likely a few days after.
@Ruby Red Lollipop It looks like you are technically right on the line - your 7-month account birthday isn't technically until the 4th, so you can still enter if you want to!
I hope by this time next year I can adopt a Newbie! Especially if my new possible job works out! Heck I might be able to adopt 2!
This is such an awesome event! Thank you to all the "Oldies" that sign up to take us "youngsters" under your gracious wings! May I be able to "pay it forward" this time next year!
Does joining on February 28th count as newbie enough? Or is it 6 months by the end of signups in which case I would miss it by just a couple days.
((rolls around)) hooray, glad it's back this year, I missed out on the fun last year! Hope i get a newb to adopt @KlanceKlanceRevolutn @FlightyRainbow i believe it's 6mos as of the opening of the signups; upthread, mod AirimirOfGondor clarified that a user who joined DoA on February 4th was still newbie enough to join, and since you guys signed up after that user did it should be fine (:
Pretty much as old as they get around here -- having been a member of the original email group. When Den of Angels changed formats, I went on strike for a year or two, then hopped on board (both figuratively and literally). I'll adopt three of you new whippersnappers.
And now I dig through the bins to see what I can handle! So excited! I wanted to participate last time round!
I felt so bad for the newbies who didn't get a gift last year, I regretted not participating. But I am this year! Hopefully I'll be able to move on the last of my unused things to someone who could definitely use them.
ah dont qualify as a newbie even though ive only been collecting for a little over a year now good luck to all you newbies!
What kind of gift are we allowed to give or not give? E.g. Does it have to be a clothing/wig or are props acceptable?
@thorneless We will do our best to match up everyone, as long as there are enough oldies to go around. @Galileo We will try to match up newbies and oldies based on what the oldie is offering, and what kinds of things the newbie would like. If you would like to offer just props, we will try to match you up with a newbie who may have specified a preference for props. And yes, the official cutoff date is February 1. But, if you are a few months over, and have only just recently got a doll, or have a doll but no accessories, please feel free to sign up! If there are enough oldies to go around, we will try to match up everyone!
This is so cute and such a good idea!!! I can't wait to meet my elder!!! Who will probably know everything that I don't xD
I can't wait until I can volunteer. I can understand though, why you want to limit it to accounts 3 years and up !
I was a newbie for this last year! My "oldbie" was really kind and generous, and sent a very fun package of delights! The gifties came in quite handy for my first doll, and now are being shared with #2, and an off-topic pal. I look forward to being able to pay it forward in a few years!
I signed up last year as a newbie and although it didn't go as plan it was fun getting to be part of the celebration and to talk to someone with such experience. To all the newbies that are joining its a lot of fun talking and planning with your oldie and getting to learn from them. Even if you don't actually get anything, the knowledge you gain is still great to have for the future. And as being a newbie last year I cant wait to shower my own with goodies and life lessons should they continue this in a few years as an oldie!
Will oldies be anonymous to their newbies like a secret santa, or will newbies be able to contact their oldie to give more information and whatnot?
Oops, earlier my device glitched up on me and didn't send my message...instead...it just sent the reply. o_O (lol) Anyways, I don't have a doll yet...sadly. This is a neat idea though! ^^
@cyberspacegirl That's good! I remember reading one post at the very end about a newbie not hearing from their oldbie or getting a gift and it broke my heart! I'm glad there were angel gifters available to help out!
Oldies will be given their newbie's information - some of them may prefer to stay anonymous, but if any of them choose to reach out, they will be the ones to contact you!
On that note, I'd like to ask how we will know if we've been assigned a partner? I've been combing the rules posted and cant seem to see that info.
@PennyForTheGuy For this event, the mod team will usually only alert newbies if they are /not/ matched up. But if we don't report back about a non-match, then you'll be good to go!
Hey! Is there a way to verify that we signed up properly? I had Internet issues while confirming my answers, and I had no confirmation message or anything, I just don't want to bother the admins by signing up twice
@Kisuke there should be a little pop-up that says "your thread was created successfully" or something to that effect -- and I can verify that we safely have your entry! If anyone else is worried whether or not their entry went through, you can always create a new Ask the Mods thread to check (or post in this thread!) and we will let you know!
@AirimirOfGondor I'm so sorry to bother you, but could you also check to make sure mine went through? I was trying to put my young son to bed, so it took me a while, and now I'm paranoid it didn't go through because I took too long. Thank you so much. I'm sorry for my spazzy-ness.
you can use the ask the moderators under the HELP section. They would be able to give you a more exact answer faster
Yeah, good call! Didn't realize this wasn't really the best thread for that until after I posted here. Thanks!
I kno' this may be weird to ask, but could you share the mods position on this once you get an answer? I'm pretty much in a similar situation as you (I joined over last year, April 10, but been most of a lurker and got my first -and only- doll in November of the same year), and would like to not end up having the mods feel spammed with the same/similar question.
