2016 PNW BJD EXPO, May 20-22, "A BJD Comicon" Chat Thread

May 16, 2015

    1. hi, does the sales floor open on friday or saturday?

    2. I had a different question, while I'm here! Will private owner sales/trades be permissible aside from vendors with booths/tables? Dollism NY had a swap meet as well as room sales for guests, and I was just wondering if there'd be anything similar for PNW BJDC. :)

    3. Trading and having Room Sales at large conventions tends to get out of hand. To avoid any complications, an alternative is available at the PNW BJD Expo this year.

Shortened hours and discounted rates for Artist Alley at PNW BJD Expo allows owners to have a 6 foot table to sell/trade and still enjoy many of the activities over the weekend. It only costs $15 more than a full weekend registration, and you will be visible to everyone attending the Expo on Saturday. You also get full registration privileges including Friday's activities, goodie bag, ability to enter contests if you wish, door prize entries, admission to Saturday's Awards Banquet and more.

Hope this answers your question designedforsmiles.

    4. Can anyone please tell me if you have to be a registered guest at PNW to take advantage of Crobidoll's prescription doll sale? My guess is yes, but I just wanted to make sure. Thanks!

I won't be able to make it this year but I would really love to meet the people behind Crobidolls. They make such beautiful dolls!

    5. Only a few days left to take advantage of BJD Crobi's prescription doll sale! It ends March 31, 2016. To "take your doll at the event" as stated on BJD Crobi's website, you must be a registered guest attending the Expo. It really is a wonderful experience to have the doll designers hand you your new doll!
Since Asian companies aren't always able to make the long trek to the US, I hope you will find a way to come see BJD Crobi while they are here at the PNW BJD EXPO. They are very excited about meeting all their fans, including you callasdoll.

    6. Thanks so much for the info, jyrus!

    7. Yay I registered! Now then, looking to share a room with someone if anyone is interested. I'll be arriving Friday and leaving Sunday morning (flying in from Boise Idaho). I'm very excited, I've never been to Seattle before (or any kind of convention for that matter!) Anyone interested in sharing a room, please pm me. Thank you!

    8. Bumping up. Still looking for a roommate!

    9. How does one acquire that if we've already bought our regular registration?

    10. Bumping this up!

    11. Bumping up. I'm going to reserve a room for two nights from May 20th -21st on this Wednesday. If anyone is interested on sharing a room with me please let me know!

Also, I don't know the area real well, does anyone know what airport is closest to the resort? Thank you!

    12. @krystina , SEA/Seattle Airport is closest. I bought my flight on Alaska Airlines for half of what I budgeted for :D

@jyrus, question still stands -- how do I purchase artist space if my badge has already been purchased?

      • x 1
    13. @Praesagium to purchase artist space when you've already registered you'll need to email [email protected] and let them know you'd like to add on an artist space to your registration. They'll send you an invoice and get you all set up ;)

    14. Thanks!

    15. Ohh that sounds perfect for me. I make accessories, props, and staging for BJD. Excited about this event as well as the Portland Con next week.

    16. Will Spiritdoll be bringing any dolls for sale?

    17. They brought 4 to display and sell at Dollism and were doing discounts on preorders for the others. I hope they do, but you should definitely write on their Q&A to ask!

    18. Thanks for the info and recommendation! I will do that and report back what they say.

    19. We've been told that they are. But it wouldn't hurt to ask on Spiritdoll's Q&A especially if you're interested in a particular Doll.

    20. W
I will do that! thank you for your reply!

    21. Found- I will no longer be looking for a roommate :)

    22. Congrats, @krystina :D It's gonna be awesome!!

    23. I hope this isn't an odd question, but are there usually some people with Dollfie Dreams that come?

    24. @SeikoKitsune I can't say about "usually" since this will be my first PNW BJD Con, but I could bring along my Dollfie Dream if you would like. :)

    25. Usually there are a few Dollfie Dreams and Smart Dolls that make an appearance each year. :)

    26. Oh, cool!
I hope I can go. I don't have anyone to room with to share the hotel cost at the moment :( that and the logistics of not bringing my car. Greyhound would get me to Seattle at least!

    27. You won't necessarily need a car while you're here. The Resort provides free transportation to and from the ferry dock located at downtown Bainbridge. Downtown Bainbridge has almost anything you might need within an easy walk of the ferry dock. And there are many options for food once you are at the Resort.

    28. That sounds great!
I know it's late notice, but does anyone want to split a room for 2 nights? I really don't want to spend the money on a solo room.

    29. Thinking about going by myself but the only rooms still available are in the "Resort" hotel, which is a 2-minute outdoor walk away from the "Tower" hotel where the convention will be. If I come, I will have to book in the Resort but I will ask to be on a cancellation list for the Tower.

So my question is, will there be some kind of coat check-type area where I could leave an umbrella if need be? Thanks ^^

    30. SeikoKitsune,
There is a covered walkway between the two hotels ;)

    31. LOL yay!

    32. @SeikoKitsune, don't feel bad. I booked outside of the block so I could get a jacuzzi ;) If you want to be near someone at the convention, we could connect outside of DoA and see if we could request rooms near each other.

    33. I'll be PM'ing soon ^^

I decided to go no matter what. I'm going to book a one-bed room, but if anyone wants to join in to split the cost, I should be able to switch to a two-bed room. So, offer still stands for a roomie, but I'm booking tomorrow for sure.

I'm bringing a Dollfie Dream Mariko (or a Dollfie Dream with a custom 07 head, not sure yet) with me. So if you want to bring your vinyl girlie, I'd be glad to see her ^___^

    34. Even better -- @designedforsmiles is my roomie!

    35. Yaaaay~ OMG, the Mariko sculpt is so cute~ I get the impulse to want to hug every one I see. Mine is a 03 (Yukino) head on a DD1 strung body! We're looking forward to meeting you! :)

    36. Ok, so I've read through the whole thread and right now going to this is going to be super impulsive so I want to be certain.

If we purchase tickets to the con, what exactly does that mean? I know some cons have purchase tickets to attend and then separate tickets for panels and such. If I buy just the ticket, will I be able to go into artist alley (which I'm assuming is the shopping floor) or any other thing?

    37. If you register online for the full weekend all panels are included along with access to the sales floor and artist alley. Workshops are extra and require advanced sign up. You'll also have access to the meet and greets that begin Friday evening.

    38. omg, awesome, I get to see a DD1! I'll have to bring Mariko, then ;)

    39. Oh, that's perfect! Thank you for the clarification!

    40. Weekend registration bought and hotel reservation made! :dance

      ETA: I found a roomie!

    41. Time is flying! I'm starting to stress a bit.

    42. Finally finished one of my projects for the expo, now on to the umpteen others that are works in progress. :)

    43. Awesome! Are they for contests? 2 of mine are finished, one will be done today or tomorrow, and the last one I just started.

    44. Yes they are for contests, I'm excited and looking forward to all the fun.

    45. Great! I can't wait to see all the creative entries this year. I have been pushing myself with mine.

    46.
    47. I entered one contest last year, this year I'm doing 4. I never did the mask last year so I'm not doing that one. Plus, the ones I am entering are kicking my behind, so I don't think I could have managed a 5th.

    48. I'm doing 4 also and that is plenty for me too. Last year I did 3, so maybe next year will be 5 or none, ha ha, as this expo tends to come at my busiest time of year with all the weddings and proms, I really don't have time to play with dolls, that is why I try to do more in the end of summer/ fall before I get real busy like now. Plus my studio can't get messy with all the doll crafting supplies with wedding gowns in the works, so my family will not get to eat at the kitchen table till the end of May.

    49. Yeah, my craft room is a huge mess right now trying to wrap everything up. I can't wait for the 20th! I know my husband is equally eager to get this stuff out of the house :D
I'm just keeping my fingers crossed that everything will fit in the car.

ETA: @jhiggi I just realized that you made the Effie costume last year. Good job!

    50. Thanks, fitting everything in the vehicle is always a challenge and this year there will be a suitcase in addition to the rest. See you soon at the expo.

    51. 2 weeks left! The countdown is on!

    55. I will have to miss another one, My new job is on weekends.

    56. I was planning to enter one of the contests, but alas, have no time for crafts right now. Oh well, I'm still planning to attend and have a great time :)

    57. Bummer! Time is always my worst enemy. I'm fighting to get all my stuff done, but I may have to leave something at home.

    58. I bought a 1-day pass for Sunday, but it looks like I could go either Saturday or Sunday now. Is it possible to use my pass either day (or do I have to stick to just Sunday)?
