2014 Korean Ball Jointed Doll Show in Los Angeles, CA - 2014 April 24th ~ 26th

Nov 10, 2013

    1. Good questions, thanks for asking as I had the same question in mind.

I also like the idea of identifying yourself from DoA. Maybe we can do badges with our DoA names? I know that when I went to the Volks Tea Party, I had wished we had done something like this. I would like to put a face to the people I "see" and speak with on the forums :) I am as excisted to meet you all as I am to meet the companies!

    2. nimbusdrake-- Yes, that's a question I hadn't thought of--how many company people at each table?!

ALL of the companies and dolls for both banquets are fantastic... that's why it was so hard to pick! I also don't own any dolls from any of the companies--so I didn't have a preference that way. I do have to say that this con has got me looking more closely at the companies involved and their dolls. I'm definitely getting to know and like more of them, which is the point of it all, I guess. :)

AmoraSeth-- Badges or ribbons with DoA Names would probably be useful. Maybe like those buttons people can make (with one of those machines)... I don't have a button-maker, though. Oh, maybe just those cheap stick-on labels? Hmmm...

But, yeah, something to wear at places like the Volks Tea Party (or Store, in my case--I didn't get into the Tea Party), and for Meetups... That would be useful.

    3. April - I love the idea of the cheap stick on labels! I just think this event would be a good opportunity to make that real-life/DoA connect :) I am going to try to snag some labels and pass them out if people would like to disclose their DoA name.

I was thinking of asking if I could still do a panel myself for Saturday, but I am not sure if it is too late. I was thinking of doing a discussion on modding rare and limited Dolls and peoples thoughts. Not sure if that is something people would be interested in...

    4. Don't know if it's too late... Couldn't hurt to check with people. I think there are some things people will only think about going to when AT the con... if there's time and they are interested, so you never know. Sounds like an interesting subject to me. :)

    5. I'll be running dolly maintenance each morning, which is a good time to socialize with other BJD people, and can be used to do DOA identification.

    6. I figured out which dolls I'm bringing to the convention. Time to pack them up. I also have been gathering the supplies for the Doll Maintenance events.

    7. I still have to do this. @__@; Time is running short. Where did the month go?!

    8. OH! Yes, I still do not know who to bring. I want to bring one of my Crobis. Any requests?

    9. Looked at your profile, you have a bunch of crobis, nice. I don't know Crobi, but I like your 'deadly sins demons' things, and would love to 'Lust'.

    10. Alright! I will bring my Lust for you :)

I can still handle bring one more doll. Any other requests?

    11. Any suggestions for Banquet Gifts? And do we bring just one?

    12. I emailed Crobi directly and they said that two staff members were coming. As for gifts, I think See's candy is always good. Or maybe something related to Easter since everything is cute and it's not a holiday really celebrated in Korea. Even a handmade card would be nice.

    13. Oh my goodness I can't believe it's almost time! I completely forgot to make\get gifts for the banquet... I hope I have time to do something nice...

I've decided to just bring one doll, my favorite, Ian (migidoll Ryu) and I got a ticket to the migidoll dinner event, so I'll be picking up my River head too, eee!

I'm so excited. Oh my god. I have to make Ian a pair of black pants! Ahh so little time left!

    14. nimbusdrake--Thanks for the info!

I'm headed to Wondercon today... Maybe I'll see something interesting there for gifts. Or maybe at Downtown Disney. Other than that--will cruise Michael's or JoAnn's to see if there's anything! *_*

    15. Artist Alleys are the best for good finds at conventions! Ooh, and I love Downtown Disney.

    16. The hotels around the Anaheim Convention Center had some cool souvenir stuff... and lots of cute things at WonderCon. I think I'm set. (Only trying to figure out how many to buy was tough.) :D

I'm glad I don't have to go to Michael's and do something crafty... I always spend too much on stuff there. Plus, I'm not all that crafty. :(

    17. Anyone going have a Doll Chateau Christina or Stacy? or a hybrid with the Y-03 body? I would love to see it in person.

    18. I just registered for the PW table on opening night. I'm not sure what my plans are but it doesn't look like I'm going to be able to make it on Friday. Possible Saturday though probably not for the dinner party. I'll probably bring framed doll photos for a gift. I'll be bringing my PW doll since I'll be at their table.

Sorry, Kouralee, I have DC Christina but I'm bringing so much photo equipment and a huge photo portfolio for a gallery review while I'm down there so my doll space is....limited....Christina is very large....of course if DC were down there I would bring in her in a second but I'm going to defer to my dining experience.

I'm excited to see Little Monica dolls since I've never seen one before. If they have a white skin Chloe for sale I'm going to be in financial trouble!

    19. HI HI HI!

Everybody .. please hurry to catch the favorite opening dinner event table & closing dinner event!

Also, please don't miss the wonderful classes.

We have prepared many of gifts now!!!

      sincerely

    20. Sorry if I missed this information somewhere, but I can't find anything pertaining to it on the site (which is rather confusing to navigate).

A few weeks ago, I purchased a 2-day pass and event ticket for one of the company tea parties. I also submitted the form on the registration page.
After that, I received a Paypal receipt for my payment to "YEOUN JOO LIM", but no other follow-ups.

Is there any other documentation I'll need to pick up my pass and event ticket when I get to the convention?- or would it be sufficient to just bring my ID and a printout of the receipt?

And is there anyone I can contact, or some page I can visit, to confirm my registration for the con and the company event? I'd really hate to miss out because I didn't have all the required info in time.

    21. I'm rather sure having just an ID would be fine for picking up your registration and event ticket.

    22. Someone asked and I'm still fuzzy on whether we should be bringing a single gift or one for each vendor employee and how many that would be?

    23. You would bring one for the table your sitting at for the banquets. And since there will be two reps, having 2 would be nice, but not required. I'm sure they will be able to decide between themselves who gets what, it's the gesture that is appreciated.

    24. Cool, thanks! I was planning to bring two but was worried because I would feel bad if there were three people there!

    25. Oh bummer! I would have loved to see her in person. :\ hopefully someone else will have one there!

Also quick question, can you buy a ticket for the day of at the door or do you have to do it online through the website?

    26. Yes, you'll be able to pay at the door for a ticket. You won't get the registration gift bag by paying at the door.

    27. I'm excited this convention starts in just two days for general public. Anyone going to have a Swap Meet spot?

    28. Join us for a quick meet up in the ORLY room on the 2nd floor. Meet the community staff and show off your dolls to be featured on our Facebook page after the convention! You can also just hang out before the contest voting commences! Hope to see you there!

    29. Well, I'm pretty much close to packed. My doll is beheaded (head in carry-on, body underneath) and ready for travel. I fly out tomorrow and have my place for the dinner on Thursday. I'm excited!

    30. I am so jealous now .....so far away....i wish I could go....maybe if I win the lottery or something!!

    31. Hope to see people there!

    32. I am getting pretty excited! This is going to be such a busy weekend - First Miyavi on Friday and then the Doll
      Party this Saturday.

I will be bring Lust and Anju. But I still need to get Lust dressed and ready. If anyone has any other doll requests, I can bring one more :)

I will bring those sticker name tags on Saturday. vampireanneke, may I bring them to your panel? I think a little ways back, you had suggested that??? I would love to put a name and face to everyone's DoA names and avatars.

    33. Who's going to the opening dinners? That might be the only thing I make.....though I'm hoping for some time on Saturday.....

    34. I am just curious, but does anyone the head counts for Friday and Saturday?

    35. I'll be coming Saturday! Not sure who to bring though. Options are my MNF Celine, Modded MNF Chloe, Bikini Tan MNF Chloe, Dearmine Dorothy. I just can't pick! I'll probably only bring one since I'll be spending the rest of the day at UCLA

    36. I'm planning to attend Saturday. \(◕‿◕✿)/ I won't have any dolls with me as my SD is still on hold but I'm hoping to buy her some stuff!

    37. dollhausen--and everyone else-- Have a Nice, Safe trip!

I'm going to the Opening Banquet.

I signed up for Crobi's table, but I don't see anyone else signed up there! *_*

Will people who work on the con fill out some of the seats?

      ---------------

IDs are always good to have on hand. If you wish to be extra sure, maybe print out the receipts you do have. It can't hurt!

It might be good to have our names listed for certain events on the website, just to make sure we got counted, though???

    38. Yes you can bring the stickers to my 'panel'. Which is doll maintenance in the mornings. Fix up the dolls before running around all day. :)

And yes the 'workers' will be at some of the tables as well. I'll be at both dinners, but due to a BUSY weekend (which I'm rather sure I take the cake on), I may leave the leaving dinner early.

    39. I'll be there on Friday and Saturday. I will bring my 3 Crobidolls with me on Friday, but maybe only the little guys on Saturday since I won't have my friend around that day to help me cart them around. :)

      Looking forward to seeing everyone!

    40. I've just found out that we will be able to buy tickets to the various events/Tea Parties at the Convention. Which it's best to buy ahead of time in case they sell out, but I know for myself I'm going to be busy running the general panel room so wasn't sure how things would fit into my schedule.

    41. I bought my ticket and plan to be there Friday afternoon/evening and part of Saturday.
Still deciding on which of my girls to bring.

    42. I can't wait! I look forward to shopping and mingling on Saturday. I will host the "Small Doll Gathering" at 2pm, so please bring your little ones as I will be preparing a small photo space for them to play in and have their photo taken!

My friend and I will also be attending the closing dinner with Crobi. And I am so happy to get the opportunity to wear my Korean dress (hanbok) again.

    43. Ah, I'm so excited, I'm flying in later today since I'll be picking up my ticket\pass on Thursday and filming during the day...

Also I completely forgot to prepare gifts for the dinner hosts oh god.:eek:Do you think I could get them some nice candy at the airport if there's any? Last time I flew it was almost valentine's day, so there was a REALLY NICE chocolate kiosk... I dunno what'll be available now though. How could I forget about the gifts, aaugh!

I also ended up getting a migidoll River head, so that means (if I sit at migi's table at the welcoming dinner like I had hoped) I'll get to see migi at least twice! That also means a nice dinner every night! I only planned one really nice outfit, which I'll probably wear to the migi dinner on Friday, so hopefully I won't be too underdressed for the other dinners in the dresses I packed...

      See you all there, wooo!

    44. Making me feel under-dressed, I'm wearing pants and a t-shirt for the convention. Oh well.

    45. I hope everyone who attends has lots of fun! It looks like the entire event will be absolutely a joy to attend. If anyone happens to have any spare time and become bored (although I know that's unlikely given how lovely the event looks ;) ) I would be forever in your debts if someone posted a picture on the forums of Crobidoll's brand new Juno M-line girl sculpt, which they've announced they'll have on display there. No one has posted non-studio images of the doll yet anywhere because it only came out last month, so you would be doing a lot of Crobi fans a wonderful favor. I hope everyone has a very enjoyable time!

    46. Woot! People are really gearing up! Nimbusdrake, I cannot wait to see you in the hanbok! I think I am just going to dress in Lolita for the Day and the Dinner.

I have decided to only bring Lust (Modded Crobidoll Lance) and Anju (Choco) so I can somewhat have my hands free to take pictures with my DSLR.

kalhirst - I will try to get some pics. I will be at the Crobi table for the closing dinner.

    47. I have set to bring Tonks (Soom Naru) to thursday Dinner, I made her an amazing dress, mostly hand sewn. Friday I'm bringing Hannah Abbott (Dollga Noella). Saturday I'll have out during the day Nagini (Soom female Euclase) and Silver (Soom Bygg). For Saturday Dinner I have Rebastian (Angel Studio Van) in his traditional Korean men's outfit. Now to just get through work today and tomorrow.

    48. Thank you! I hope you have lots of fun - their dolls for the closing dinner look absolutely gorgeous.

    49. Unfortunately I don't have any of the guest company dolls, so I will be bringing two of my Pipos. If anyone else has Pipos dolls, I would love to see them Saturday!

    50. Here are my plans, in case anyone fancies trotting around with me:
      8:30 hit the sales!!!

(and off topic Paperwhite Doll, Natural Days Momoko, buffdolls custom Monster High Clawdeen)

I will be wearing a test subject outfit from Portal (aperature T shirt, orange skirt) and will have a Christina/Allurose/TinyJewelsShop nametag. I hope to see some of you there!

    51. Hey! Who wants to hang out tomorrow? I'm in L.A. now so if anybody else will be by tomorrow, I'd love to say hi when I'm not busy!

    52. Oooh, a hanbok for the closing dinner sounds fantastic!

And great idea about the photo space for the Small Doll Gathering.

I'm doing the Iplehouse Gathering. I don't think I'll be bringing anything for that--it would be too bulky and bringing the dolls will be heavy enough!!! *_*

I will try and take lots of photos, but I have a terrible memory, so I might forget your specific request. Hopefully, between everyone, someone will get a good photo...!

I don't have any of the guest company dolls, either (and considering how many dolls I do have, that's pretty weird!). I was thinking of bringing a Pipos on Thursday... but maybe not. Saturday is going to be an Iplehouse day for me, I think... but I won't be carrying those big EIDs around! Too heavy!!!! So maybe I could bring along a Pipos, but I'm still not sure (I've got an R. Derek and a Bao).

Oh... I probably won't be up there until sometime before the Banquet. I'm coming in from an hour away, so I probably won't be in early enough to hang out.

GIFTS--I'm sure anything would be OK. Airports usually have some nice stuff, actually. Souvenirs and gifts. I figure something from LA or CA or some candy or something would be nice.

    53. I'm expecting to get to the convention tonight around 4:30pm or earlier...depending on traffic, and when I get off work as well.

    54. April: Thanks for hosting the Iplehouse Gathering. I will definitely be there to look! If you could bring your Derek that would be great! If not, no worries. I think I will bring Pipos Rosie and Llyod.

And for those joining the convention today and tomorrow, have fun! I'm very jealous, since I have to be at work :(

    55. Have fun on the first day of the convention!!

    56. I am here! :D :D :D

Okay, so we are right at the airport...what's here? I now feel like I will have to go next door and rent a car at some point...

BUT I saw them setting up The Room, it's on the second floor, take the escalators in the lobby and go left at the top. I have seen the opening dinner dolls. DYING! :D

Heading back down to find a Denny's. ;)

      .hlp

    57. OH! I cannot wait to start seeing some pictures :)

    58. Ahh, today was fun already! I can't wait to see everyone tomorrow. 8D Is anyone else doing the sculpting workshop?

    59. I'm doing the sculpting workshop--on Saturday, I think?

The Opening Banquet was GREAT! Beautiful one-off dolls as center-pieces. A fair amount of them got sold, too. The company reps--lots of them the actual sculptors and faceup artists--had friendly interpreters... plus they understood some English, most of the time. They were all very friendly and interesting and asked and answered questions.

I was at the Crobi Table, and the folks from Oscar Doll Eyes were there, too. I got a gift a of Victorian-style doll bonnet from Crobi (they had the Gone With the Wind Scarlet and Rhett One-offs that were just beautiful!), and two pairs of urethane eyes by Oscar Doll (they make their eyes with rhinestones and glittery bits in the irises and they are just lovely). I was tempted to buy Scarlet, but I really want to see the Sales Room! It's terrible to have so many beautiful dolls for sale! aaagh.

The food for the banquet was very tasty! It was salad as first course, then chicken on rice with veggies--very moist, tender, tasty chicken, and cheesecake for dessert. The closing Banquet should be great! :)

I'm uploading photos... Sadly, the light wasn't great and my camera is kind of basic... but oh, well... I'll post as soon as I can... in a separate convention photo thread...

    60. Thanks so much for the report, April. It sounds lovely, so now I'm getting really excited for the closing dinner!
