jake is dead, but sometimes returns to the mortal coil to stop tommy from doing wrong.

he was the son of helena. he stopped attending school and took his life the summer following when he should have graduated. jake died by suicide after a particularly rough night and was found hanging in a motel. his funeral was the talk of the town and attracted huge crowds of people.

cecil often kept tabs on him for his mother's sake. he informed his group of friends when jake died and tommy ended up losing his mind over it because (unbeknownst to everyone) they had an intimate work relationship. though he died early in the story, jake remains an important part of it nonetheless. tommy visits his grave frequently to talk with him.
