helena is a single mother to a son named jacob. she has depression, which is hard on her child. her husband ran off with another woman and left jacob and helena alone. helena was out of work when her health first began to decline, so jacob turned to the streets to make some cash. after finding out the truth, helena feels forever guilty. jacob killed himself shortly after he turned 18, sending helena into another whirlwind of depression.

helena is seeing cecil. she is the only person he tells his secrets to. she knows about the english teacher, she knows how he lost a finger, she knows about the drugs and the dealing, she knows about every other woman, she knows about kyle and klaire, she knows about every complication in his life and she tries her best to guide him through. unfortunately, helena dies by suicide before she turns 40 and cecil is once again left alone.
