[Adopted] Zaoll Discussion Thread (Part I closed)

Nov 29, 2007

    1. I'm thinking of getting a zaoll luv but I'd like to no more about them, does nyone know anything on these breathtaking bueaties?

    2. I know they are made by the same company as Narsha, I have had two of those, they are incredibly beautiful and well made. I have often looked longingly at these larger girls, they are quite pretty.

    3. Anything special you'd like to know?^^

I have a Zaoll Luv with me and I do love her.
There is also an older thread for them around here somewhere, should be easy to find if you search for "Zaoll"...

    4. they are indeed gorgeous! and I used the search option for them on this forum many times, but many of the pictures I found of them are no longer visible.. :(

@Mandagore: she's made of french resin right? could I ask if she has yellowed much? (like the beautifull limhwa girls sometimes did?) and did you buy her from dollmore.com?
      thanks!

    5. yeah, I'm not sure what kind of clothes they fit :p such an unusual size o.O

    6. AnnekeKarel, she is made of french resin! She hasn't yellowed yet, but since my Narin turned butter yellow only after 1 1/2 years and I do not have my Zaoll that long, it can still happen I'm afraid. I think people should be aware of that in their decision making... anyway, it doesn't bother me much!^^

Unoa_im_afreak, yep, she is very petite. She isn't much slimmer than average, but a little shorter, so the worst thing that can happen is you have to take in long skirts or pants a little. It makes her look more in proportion than a lot of other 1/3 girls too. I was lucky with Dollmore fashions though.
and yes, I got her from Dollmore!^^

    7. I'm not sure if its apropriate to ask, but do you have any pictures of her body from the side, font and back? i'm curious about how it looks
anyway thank you very much for answering our questions! it helps out alot! <3

    8. Zaolls are good posers and hold them well.Better than most of my dolls really and certainly better than my CP girl. We've had her here for a year and she hasnt really yellowed. If anything, she's mellowing to a nice creamy color.
I've never had any problem getting my mother's Zaoll Muse into clothes from quite a few different companies.I've had her in Luts dresses(Sophia set,Na Rea dress),itty bitty short shorts from Dream of Doll, and even the Volks cream Mille Feuille(was a little large but can be adjusted to fit with the from lacing).Shoes are a little bit trickier though. We've have her in the t-strap heels from Luts with not problem but the SD13 Framboise heels dont fit because of her darn big toe! It juts upward much higher than the rest of her toes. She fits the Dollmore converses really well though.

I'll TRY to get some pics of the body for you but I may not be able to do it till Monday or Tuesday.

    9. thank you! what you told me is of great help! knowing that certain shoes and clothes will fit is nice. thanks! I'll keep an eye on this thread!

    10. how they with minis? they look short enough to be "grownups" for mature minis who are teens.

    11. I bet they would be nice with Minis but I don't know from experience just conjecture.
The thing that impresses me about Narsha is the incredible detail of her hands and feet. I'm a sucker for that kind of stuff.
Zaoll has amazing faces, so lovely.

    12. I'm looking into getting a zaoll muse soon [ish, I'm about half saved up lol], and I was wondering what wig size do they wear? I haven't been able to find that information.

    13. I'm pretty sure they have eight inch heads, so 7"-8" might be small. . .ans 8"-9" might be a tad big. . .dollmore.com has some wigs specifically made for zaoll dols, plus Tinybear could probaly make you a custom wig ;)

    14. Oh crap!!I forgot to take those pics everyone needed!!!! I'll try to get them done this time I swear!!

      SeanRayne,she wears a 7-8 or full 8 inch wig.

StellaMaris, they really do look good with minies. They look more in scale to minies than other SD sized dolls do, however, the chunkier minies like Volks, will likely look odd next to them .I'll try to get a pic of my mom's Muse with her DoC BeeA for comparison.

    15. aoyuki, it's okay, i forgot about the pictures too (what were they about again?)

    16. side, front and back pics of her body:sweat plus comparisons with an msd that I just now promised.

Any other pics people need of her? I'll try to get all pics done at the same time so if there are any other requests,I'll do them at the same time.

    17. you pretty much covered it with the mini thing, ive got mature minis who are "teenagers" so i was think of getting a zaoll as a "grown-up."

    18. My husband had a Zaoll Luv. And my review of her will be totally contrary to what everyone else here has said. (I would also like to note that we have owned a lot of dolls from a lot of other companies, including other french resin dolls in this type of style.)

Her posing was not very impressive AT ALL. There was no 'life' to her body and we were never able to find a pose that looked at all natural or relaxed. Everything looked forced or stiff. I was equally unimpressed by her sculpting. Her body didn't strike me as being particularly sophisticated on any level and her face has very little sculptural detailing to it. It was really very basic, flat, and bland. I felt that her hands were equally lifeless and just not at all expressive. We were really disappointed with her, which is a very sad thing because she looks so cute on the Dollmore website!

At any rate, I can't say I would ever recommend this doll, especially not as somebody's first doll. However, I do look forward to seeing what the sculptor produces in the future.

    19. I have problems with the hands too. They're just so stiff looking and completely unnatural looking no matter how you try to pose them. I've never had an issue getting pretty natural poses out of her though. Might be the difference of how tight/loose the stringing is though.Faceups help alot too since I thought she looked awful in the Dollmore pics but she can be really pretty if painted right.

    20. Ok,I took those pics that everyone wanted so far plus a few pics of the posing.Unfortunately, her stringing has gotten a bit too loose so her posing isnt as good as it used to be when she was new. I have to wait till the other computer isnt in use so I can get the pics edited to a decent size though.

Notes on her poseability(keep in mind her stringing is quite loose and my opinions on her range of motion arent quite what they would have been when she was new): upper thigh joints tend to roll inward towards eachother;limited range of motion in the wrists; limited range of neck mobility(not much up-tilting but pretty good with side to side tilt and downward glance);elbow and knee joints are shallow,so they can twist alot but as far as knees go,she seems to able to hold a greater range standing poses because of it;french resin has more grip than standard urethane resin,so doesnt seem to require sueding to hold her poses;her feet are a bit too rounded on the bottom and can be a bit hard to deal with at times;her torso joint allows her to hunch foward and tilt nicely and pretty realistically;she doesnt have snappy legs like a CP which is a huge plus for me;she is a solid stander for the most part(can overbalance like any other doll)

All in all,not the greatest poser, but not bad at all.I have more posing issues with my CP girls than I do with her. Most issues with posing can be fixed with clever photography and just simply getting used to the body's quirks just like any other doll. She can look a bit flat faced at times but I find that thats becase she has thin lips and single fold(Asian) eyelids rather than the double fold(caucasian) eyelids and fuller lips that most dolls seem to have. She does have nice realistic shaping to her body(nice hip bones, back and belly are pretty realistic, small realistic breasts for a change) With the right wig and head tilt,I find she can look freakishly like Cate Blancett at times.

    21. good, cant wait to see the piccies ^^; :aheartbea

    22. those were very helpful :] I use Photo bucket but im pretty sure all you have to do is highlight the bar under the desired picture that says [IMG]

    23. aoyuki_kitsune: thank you very much for the pictures! Justine is a beautifull girl! It helps out alot!

    24. Just wondering, but does the regular Zaoll resin (not french resin) match with bodies from other companies?

    25. I bought my Muse the day Dollmore had them available so I've had her over a year and a half. Her French resin is very pale paler than either my Limhwa or my Narae when she was new. So far she's had no visible yellowing. She is short but proportional to SD's. Here she is with my M.

    26. That can only be a plus!

    27. Sorry if I'm asking a question that has already been asked, but since we're talking about zaoll... I notice that they are being offered in urethane as well as french resin now. The pictures of the regular urethane look somehow different than the french resin, but I'm assuming they are the same mold right? I'm a big fan of the french resin and I too was planning on getting a Luv, but somehow the urethane Luv looks better to me.

    28. I'm sure they are the same mold but the faceups are different.

    29. Yup, that would do it alright :)

    30. Zaoll's are one of those dolls that can look incredibly different depending on faceup. If you look at each Zaoll girl,Luv or Muse,on the board, some of them almost dont even look like Zaolls(whereas a Woosoo looks like a Woosoo no matter the faceup on him). But yes,the Urethane and the French resin molds are the same.

    31. Would anyone be able to tell me if the urethane resin is the same as the resin used for Dollmore's own line of dolls?

    32. I'm pretty sure urethane resin is a different type of resin than most compagnies use. It has more texture :3

And I can tell you, Zaolls pose very natural and they are quite easy to pose once you get to know the body a bit. My Zaoll Muse came very loosely strung, but she was standing very sturdy right out of the box :B I haven't even felt the need to restring her, since it isn't neccesary ^^

    33. Any more info on shoes that will fit OK?

    34. bump! anyone have comparison photos of regular/french/urethane??

      or any other info?

      :)

    35. bumpbump!...and bump!

    36. bump bump!

    37. Has anyone tried an elasticated 8-9 size wig on their zaoll? I just saw a wig that size on a zaoll and it looked fine, but I can't really tell since I don't have a zaoll yet. I'm also wondering if the head is a true size 8, I want to be really sure of the measurements since I like having a wig waiting for the doll when it gets here. Thanks to anyone who answers. :)

    38. 8-9 wigs swim on my Zaoll. She has a tiny head. I prefer 7-8 wigs from monique for her (they have enough stretch to fit 8.5 inch heads as well).

    39. Thank you! :) I rather suspected that 8-9 would be huge, it's just hard to tell from pictures. I'm glad to know monique works.

    40. No problem. As far as I know, CoolCat also makes wigs that should fit as does CanCan J-series. I haven't tried other wigs as of yet though. :)

    41. I received my new Zaoll last week. I must say she is just beautiful and the service from Dollmore is excellent! This time I really went all out and ordered her sanded and blushed, plus a custom face-up. I did get the urethane resin as I have to hide all my Naraes in boxes because they are out of French resin.

I find the 7-8 inch wigs fit just great. She does have big hands and feet. Most of my SD shoes fit fine. I did try on some Dollheart boots and thought I would never get them off! So far my girl is unnamed and still in her underwear that she arrived in.

I do sew and knit so I will have to get busy. I think taking any of my patterns for the 16 inch fashion dolls (Tonner type) and increasing them by 38% will work for the bottoms like pants and skirts. Or just use an American model bottom would be fine too, since she does fit an AM skirt I have on hand. Tops will be a challenge since my Volks and Narae stuff is too big. So I need to re-chart my knitting patterns and draft up sewing patterns for tops.

But she is so beautiful. She poses quite well too. I love the blush job Dollmore did. I love their resin color anyway but the blushing is so life-like. I just wish this doll had more of a following. This was the only thread that looked like one I could post this information on. I hope more discover her and we can really chat and share photos!

    42. Dollswest -- Congrats!! I really enjoy playing with my Zaoll Luv and I'm saving for a Zaoll Muse to be her sibling. Gu Mi-Jung's work is so realistic and she went to Bimong's school, so Zaolls, Narsha, and Banjis fit in really nicely with Narin dolls! I also just got a 43cm Narae to be a sibling to my Zaoll Luv. :)

    43. Thank you Masala_Chai_Tea for the information - no wonder I love Zaoll Luv's face. She reminds me of my Ava, my large Narae standard in pinky white. I keep looking at Muse and wondering if I should get her too. I do love my Narsha. I absolutely love Dollmore's urethane resin color. And the fact they are about the only ones offering sanding and blushing services, makes me only want to order from them.

    44. I noticed that Luv shares a resemblance with the 60cm Naraes! I had an immediate liking for Luv and Muse sort of grew on me. I like how different they can look. :)

    45. I got a Zaoll body with a bleu citron head on it since 2 weeks and she fits sd16 heels very well, I only have one pair of them but my other doll (souldoll ) cant stand in them at all but she does very well :D I'm very happy about it becous I looove those shoes XD

    46. Hasel, I'd love to see pics of your Bleu Citron hybrid! I really think the SD16 shoes are quite pretty. XD

    47. Hasel - how do the SD 16 heels work? If they do, I must get some. I figured with a flat foot that heels were off limits? Any photos? Thank you!

My poor girl is still nude. So many dolls to dress!!

    48. I've only sewed a few outfits for my Zaoll Luv. She is really versatile though as she looks lovely in the lacy things I've sewn her as well as the more modern casual looks I've made.

    49. There you go, she likes to stand with her toes pointed inward with this shoes but I managed to make her stand up normal to, I'm still getting used to posing her ^^

As you can see in the back is a bit of room, but it isnt much and only at the top of the leather, her heel makes sure the shoe wont fall off ^^ I walked her around an event and she didnt even lost one of them once! I was so happy! Also does the part between her toes show a bit, but with some wiggling you almost dont see that.

All in all she has very, very well designed ankles, she stands very sturdy in these shoes while the heels are very high.

edit: just thought of it, her pants are Souldoll, I hear often Zaolls have big butts from other dutch doll owners but she fits these pants pretty well ^^ they are slightly tight but they were that to on my Souldoll. Only they are a bit long, but I personally like that look with high heels.

    50. Thank you Hasel! Yes, the shoes look great on her. I need to get a sweater pattern done for 16 inch fashion dolls and then I can dress my "Camille". That is what I have named her. She wears dark wigs so well. I have so many "blondies" that it is nice to have the change.

I think I will just draft up some sewing patterns. I have tried some things on her that I have around and have an idea what needs to be taken in or let out. These are definitely an odd size doll but oh so pretty!

      Thank you again for sharing!

    51. ive always wanted to know whta they felt like?

    52. Your welcome Dollwest.

Holiday, they have a resin that isn't totally smooth, it has a little grain to it with makes it very nice to the touch and makes them very nice matte. My other dolls are totally smooth and shiny (latidoll, souldoll and leekeworld) I like the resin this matte way much better. Altho downer is that she seems to attract dirt faster then totally smooth resin *grabs magic block*

    53. I agree with you Hasel. I LOVE the resin from Dollmore! The color, the sheen, the feel, just beautiful. To me, it is much better than my French resin dolls. I don't worry quite as much about yellowing, although I know all resin will yellow over time.

Just wish Dollmore made a 57cm doll I would like. Just have not found one that has a face I really like. That is why I got Zaoll Luv. The face is so pretty and mature looking. She is an odd size and that means her own wardrobe. But I think she will like that!

    54. Hasel -- your Bleu Citron head looks great on the body! I think Bleu suits a more mature taller body! :)

Dollswest -- Most of my gals have darker hair, so my Zaoll Luv has a cinnamon blonde wig. XD

    55. Masala - I just saw your girl on the database for Zaoll. Wow, she is so pretty. She looks so beautiful in the wig color. It makes me get so excited to get something on my poor Camille so I can take her photo. Thank you for posting the photo!

    56. Oh thank you, Dollswest! :) I think Zaoll can pull off cinnamons and reds really nicely. It works well with her pale skintone. I have more pictures of her up on my Flickr account. She has a pink-white wig as well that I've yet to take pictures of her in. I'd love to see Camille when she's out and about. :)

Hasel -- You've made me a fan of Bleu Citron! I'd love to do up a more mature version of her. :)

    57. Oh Masala, I really enjoyed your photos on flicker. All of your dolls are beautiful and you take such nice photos!

This month I am busy designing for 16 inch fashion dolls. Not my favorite but I have so many requests that I want to get out a few sweater designs. Then I can get back to Camille and the others that are yelling at me for more clothes!

I keep thinking about Zaoll Muse. I just love Dollmore's resin!

    58. Aww! Thanks, Dollswest! I know what you mean about clothes though. I've been trying to sew up a storm and make outfits that can fit more than one body type for my girls. Mix and match stuff. XD

Zaoll Muse is so pretty! I used to only like Luv, but Muse has grown to be a favourite of mine too!

    59. Ive been reading some things about bad posing?

And i don't really understand where this is coming from.
      Because their posing is incredible.
No they don't have double joints, but their joints are very well made and they look very natural.
Which is something i really dislike about double joints.
They can still move their arms very well and touch their heads.

Both the Zaolls i have had in my house could stand perfectly on high heels.
My first even better on high heels then flat shoes.

Jip, my current Zaoll ,her strings are very lose,
but she still holds poses so well i usually dress her while she stands.

You do need to get used to their posing, and their balance.
Because of their shorter legs and longer bodies, they balance different then other dolls.
But now i'm used to it,
i am quite sure the more realistic body/leg measurements work better for me,
then the long legs and short bodies dolls usually have.

      Some strange poses ~
