Youtube videos - Do you watch them and what are your favorites?

Jan 20, 2018

    1. Hello everyone :)

I had this topic quite a few times the last few years, since I also have a doll related Youtube channel and I was wondering, if and what kind of videos you guys like and watch the most? :3 Do you watch videos? And what do you prefere? If the person is talking or are you ok with subtitels or even without and showing only?

Since I offer commisions now I hope I can bring my viewers some face-up and body blushing videos more regulary, but I also want to start with some DIYs for furniture :3 Would that be something you guys are interested in watching? And if yes, what kind of furniture would be the most interesting ones for you? :3

I hope we can talk a little bit about this topic, since I really want to improve my channel so I'ld be happy for some suggestions and ideas :)
Also here's the link, just in case anyone want to have a look on my YouTube channel :3

Thank you and hope to hear from you soon

    2. I do watch YouTube videos, my favorites are ones that focus on character development and building dioramas or sewing. That kind of stuff is always interesting to me. Faceup videos are relaxing and informative too, though, I just am less likely to watch them.

    3. I've been watching wig making tutorials a lot lately, I like any process videos like that or faceups or dyeing dolls, I enjoy seeing how people customise their dolls and it's peaceful to watch faceup videos especially. Sometimes I watch box openings too cuz it gives you a better all round view of the doll opposed to photos

    4. I love miniature tutorials like SugarCharmShop and AkameruKawaii,
and I actually love ASMR videos. It's videos of soft sounds that some people find super relaxing, like soft talking or rustling papers or little craft videos.

    5. I watch a lot of YouTube videos about BJDs. I set aside a time almost every day to catch up on my faves.

Libacious 1 (aka Wino and Dollies), ShelBea, Swandzz, Kohaku Creations, WennieBJD, Sight Hound Lady, Lady T, SiyayaBJD, Anne Pecaro, Joshua Nichols, MikeyBJD, Oscilating Wildly, and many more.

I LOVE staying in touch with the BJD community, and I learn a lot from videos. I also like to check out box openings or reviews when considering a certain doll to buy.

    6. I watch a lot of the channels that ParlourGoddess mentioned above. I like channels that focus on their doll stories, love box openings, and just general chat about the hobby and about what projects are currently being worked on.
I just started my channel too. :)

    7. I'm a bit of a YouTube-aholic. I love streaming many different videos from various channels in my spare time.

I follow a couple of BJD channels, and keep up with Swandzz regularly. However, my percentage of bjd-themed videos that I actually watch overall is kind of small compared to the rest of the content I stream on there. I love cartoon/anime/movie/TV show reviewers (longest one I've followed being the Nostalgia Critic), and some interesting content like writing tips, Ask a Mortician (very interest and cool channel), crafting, storytelling, historical tales, coverage of mythology, and documentaries, with the occasional DIY tutorials sprinkled in there somewhere. I also love watching animated shorts on occasion when I come across some good ones, and sometimes some really random stuff.

      Yeah, I know I didn't mention a lot of bjd/doll themed stuff. I've just got a variety of interests;):kitty2

    8. I love watching bjd videos! I watch them more than TV... I’ll add three not mentioned, Lomi’s Playground, Nicolle’s Dreams, and Dollightfull.

    9. YouTube is pretty much my cable! I enjoy watching alot of the Bjd addict prompt videos. Here lately I've been interested in the introductions prompt considering I'm in the process of creating my own YouTube channel. I follow 3 of my favorite bjd YouTubers which are Swandzz, Sight hound lady, and Wino and dollies! I aspire to have a successful channel like them and hope to be as personable in the community. Their dolls are all so very unique but I love all of their characters!

    10. Oh I love YouTube and I tend to watch more videos than I should. Anything from UFO's to 80's music videos that used to be shown on Mtv. I have seen some BJD box openings there along with reborn's and silicone baby dolls( yeah I have some). Even the Black Friday video's are crazy in itself to see.

    11. @derilan85 oh no! You’ve given me ideas! Not that I need anymore things to watch, but humm, Black Friday videos....:evilplot:

@Cindilou02 I’m interested in watching your channel once you have it up. More dolly themed videos! Yay!:celebrate

    12. Yes hon those folks act like pure t fools fighting over items that are limited in stock and then they snatch stuff out of other people's carts, it is pure madness, but I love it just as much as reality shows on tv.

    13. Lately I watching a lot of videos about repainting, face-up, character design, custom dolls, etc. For me is much better when the person is talking about the subject of the day and give us some useful tips.

    14. When watching bjd videos I enjoy to watch the box openings.

    15. I don't watch BJD videos on YouTube but I do watch a lot of westerners living in Asian countries, particularly in Japan.
My favorites are Rachel and Jun and their 2nd channel, but there are a few others that I enjoy watching. I don't watch every single channel of the same theme,
because I'm vegan and the ones focused on cooking or recipes are a bit hard for me to watch, but I enjoy the ones that show how life in Japan is for forefingers.
I also love watching Japanesestuffchannel and a few crafting related ones like The Square To Spare.

    16. I watch dollightful, I think she is my favorite. She talks but does so with purpose, not hust mindless ummm and uhhhh like other bjd youtubers. I like seeing doll posing and comparison videos, faceup, clothing, mods. I don’t care much for people just sitting and talking while holding a doll. I want the visual to be as interesting as what is being said.

    17. i love watching face-up and doll customising videos, though so far it's mainly been for monster high dolls, though one creator i follow also does bjd face-up videos! I find them quite relaxing to have on and watch, plus I learn a lot about how people chose to do face-ups and what techniques or materials they use ^_^

    18. I love watching body reviews and box openings. There are very few you tubers with interesting wine and dollies talk (at least in my opinion) but ill watch it either way if I'm hella bored

    19. I'm a total YouTube addict! About 5% of my viewing is doll stuff, mostly body reviews and crafting tutorials. A lot of the general doll chat stuff doesn't hold my interest beyond background noise while I'm working. The rest is focused on my other interests. I like fish-focused channels like Aquarium Co-op and PeckTech, game reviews/historians like LGR and Pushing Up Roses (she's so nice, and I've found really unique adventure games through her recommendations). I also try to keep up with Lindsay Ellis (formerly the Nostalgia Chick). Other than that, I find myself burning time on makeup reviews and music. XD I think I find most of my music through YouTube these days.

    20. I don't really follow any particular BJD channels, though I do like to watch box openings and body reviews (and youtube tutorials have definitely been a lifesaver). Most of my Youtube watching isn't BJD-related, though. I got super into the ant-keeping channels, actually, especially Ants Canada. I used to think ants were kind of gross but now I adore them. Ant love forever!

I also like to watch terrarium builders and channels that explain about animals and prehistoric creatures. I guess I primarily use Youtube for my nature video fix?

    21. Ants! That sounds interesting, actually. I had no idea ant-keeping was a whole "thing," lol.

    22. I don't know if this video has been posted on YouTube before or on DoA, but I found it incredibly awe-inspiring to watch.
The artist that makes the Pygmalion sculpts is also featured in it. The title is a bit sad, but the video and information in it are great.

    23. I love watching faceup videos, most of the ones I have seen are MH. I really want to try it, even though I can't draw!! I'm also very intrigued by the people that make a doll into some type of mythical being.

I watch a lot of wig making and sewing videos.

Favorites are Swandzz- 180 degrees from my style, but she is really fun to watch. I like Dollightful a lot too, and I get a huge kick out of Hextian. I've been watching Sugar Charm Shop for years. Also like Lomi's Playground, Moonlight Jewel and Poppen Atelier. But most of these are more MH and miniatures than BJD.

    24. I would definitely watch more YouTube videos if I had better internet at home. I like Denali Wind although I don't know if she has made any doll videos recently, but she has documented her progress of learning the cello and now ukulele which is cool too. Somewhat I wish she had better lighting, but also admire that she didn't let that stop her lol. I love Myliex and her fantasy world and I like the dogmen story too (bonus cute puppies sometimes.) I guess there was some drama or something about a go fund me but I don't know for sure what that was about. I haven't really found anyone else I like as much. But I would watch more channels if possible because it is always interesting to see what kind of thought process and crafting process people have for styling their dolls.

    25. I watch videos, mostly when I am looking for a particular thing, like if I want to know about a specific doll or need a tutorial on restringing or something. I do not always enjoy when someone drones on and on about things I don't care about. I'm sure that there are plenty of people who are interested in what they are talking about, and maybe it is an age gap thing, but I just want info sometimes. I do enjoy Swandzz, even when she talks and talks. She is entertaining, and some I just don't find entertaining.

So far I haven't found any really good faceup videos where you can actually see the process well. I should probably look harder. I think it would be great if those sped up videos were slowed down every so often, so you could get a better idea of what exactly is going on. I don't want to see every single time someone dabs blush on in slow motion, but showing a short snippet of how it is done, as well as some of the other details would be really helpful. And more discussion about the process would be good.

    26. I like wig tutorials and poseability reviews. What kinda annoys me though, is that many women in the hobby go out of their way to make a squeaky voice to sound like, what, an anime girl? A doll? I can totally stop watching an otherwise good tutorial when that happens. It's not cute, it's asinine.

    27. Just stumbled upon this video featuring an amazingly talented BJD-hobbyist, who designs and sews traditional-inspired Korean clothes for her dolls . Her work is amazingly beautiful and detailed, I wish I had half the talent for sewing that she has developed by owning BJD. It's a wonderfully inspirational piece, I wish there was more information about her, but there are no links to her website/social-media. I'm sure this video could yield more views if posted within the main forum, but I am not sure if there is a thread for such topics and I'm too lazy to go look. I need to go to sleep now... (4:41AM) ^ ^;;

    28. Pretty much all the channels I could suggest have been already. I love watching YouTube for doll related stuff. Personally I'd like to see more doll reviews, character stories, and of course customization. I love dollightful because she doesn't do only one piece (JUST faceups or JUST sewing) per video. She goes through the planning, then the preparation, then the faceup, hair/wig, sewing, crafting and sometimes she has a story for the doll too. It's very satisfying to see that.
