your wishlist then vs. your collection now - how has it changed?

Aug 1, 2017

    1. recently i was cleaning out my old google drive files/gmail chat logs, and i stumbled across a veeery old bjd wishlist from 08-09 and just beginning to cultivate an interest in BJDs! i thought it was super interesting because back then i was 16 and without a source of income, so i was just building a list of dolls that i wanted at the time. when i look at my collection now, it's interesting to see how my tastes have changed!

for example, the only doll that made it through is tristen, my cd yeonho. cassidy was originally supposed to be a cd lance, but now he is a md miho! and everyone else that i have now was definitely not on the wishlist back then!

do you ever look back on the dolls you used to want? does your current collection match your old wishlist, or has it done a complete 180 degree turn around? i would love to hear some stories~

    2. I don't think I made a 180, but there are some things that are surpsing.
I originally wanted a CP Delf Chiwoo in teh worst way. I was a Sophomore in highschool and I knew it was going ot be hard saving up for. Still, I tried--- failed ,but tried! Fast forward to 2008, I graduated highschool in 07 and had my grad money sititng there for nearly a year. I got a jjob to replace what I wanted to spend, and in February of 2008 ordered a CP Yder insted.

3 years later, the Delf line was discontiued from luts and moved along to fairyland. Instead of sticking with the molds I prefered (The delf line-- I wanted so many of htem!) I stuck wiht Luts. So the aesthetic is some what different, but still very similar.
      I prefered chubby faced and wide eyed, but some how my crew is amix of diffrent looks {though aesthetically, all very similar~}

I'd still love a delf chiwoo, just because I've always wanted one. But It's not something I'm really chasing after because it's not the same anymore.
Name wise, I've changed! My first three dolls are Ren, Kouji, and Kai. Relatively obvious Japanese names.
After them, I started going into... I guess my own style of names? Granted, it probably won't stop me from naming aChiwoo Kaji when given the chance

    3. My wishlist has definitely changed! There are some dolls I knew about before, but I tried to avoid the hobby for a long time, so when I came back to it recently, I had a lot of sculpts to discover and I was much older. I used to be in love with Fairyland and their sculpts but my tastes have changed away from that. I also used to like Volks BJD, including the Dollfie Dreams but my tastes shifted away from that too. I also remember I liked Bluefairy at one point. Not my taste anymore either.

Right now, I find that the things I like are just bits and pieces from artists/companies. A head sculpt from artist x, a body from Y artist... Probably the only artist whose work I enjoy almost all of right now is Bimong. The heads are a little too big for the new bodies though, I think.
Basically nothing from my old list matches my new one.

I actually think I'm still in the process of finding out what my taste is. When I got back to the hobby last year, my first doll was a very cute BJD; but all of the ideas I had for her character matched a more mature sculpt. I've been slowly gravitating towards more and more mature sculpts (which also demands a bigger size range), but I've also looked back at that BJD and realized how nice it was to just appreciate her for her cuteness.

    4. My wishlist when I was young and first finding out about the hobby was mostly iplehouse sds (and two msds).

Now, 8 years later when Ive finally been able to purchase dolls my collection doesn't contain a single iplehouse doll and probably never will!

My collection is mostly Dollzone and Doll Chateau msds and my wishlist is pretty much the same, with the addition of some others like fairyland's fantasy dolls. :P

      • x 1
    5. The only real difference is that so many new doll companies have come into existence so my wishlist has only expanded! Lol.

The other difference is that I've been able to cross off my grail doll from my younger self's wishlist. :D

    6. It's definitely changed a lot. My list back then included dolls like Dollzone Brant, Annie, Soom Heliot, Beyla, Minifee Chloe and Pukipuki Sugar. (I think everyone at one point or another had fairyland on their list at one point). Resinsoul Mei, Bobobie Isabella and Resinsoul Bei were also on this list.

The only ones from the initial list to make it home were Bei and Isabella. I got a Resinsoul Song as my first MSD, then I got an OT MSD hybrid girl, I got a Neo-Angelregion Ren on Dollzone body hybrid and no Fairyland has ever entered my home.

I still want Mei, she's like my ultimate grail still just can't think of a character or even a name for her hence why she hasn't come home yet. Minifee's and Pukipuki's are gorgeous and uniquely designed. I'd still like to own one, one day if funds permit (Karsh is my dream Minifee now versus Chloe. I think she's a sweet sculpt and I can see why she's their most popular minifee but she's not my style)

    7. It did change, but I think is was because my priorities changed. Before I would place any dolls that I found pretty/cute and would get in love from company photos and the aesthetic they showed, I also would avoid tinies because I didn't think I would have use for them.

Now I love tinies, specially withdoll my tinies list is 95% them XD I also care more to see blank sculpts than get attached to the aesthetic/face-up of the company photos. I focus in dolls that I find more than cute, the ones that really grip me and inspire me, to see if after a time I will still like them so much. I also focused in 1/4 for my main size and only want very specific 1/3 with non-human traits.

    8. When I first started the hobby seven years ago, I wanted Soom. All the awesome monthly fantasy sculpts! I just never actually bought one, even secondhand. I also had CP Lu Wen on the list. Fast forward to this year and I finally bought my first Soom (mini Puss & Boots). Took me seven years, but I got one, lol.

    9. Hmm... I'd say it's amazing at how much I've stuck to it, in a way.
When I was first eye balling bjd's my absolute favorites were all doll chateau or the dearmine sheep. That pretty much describes my collection except for my artist cast dolls! What changed was getting an appreciation for the artist cast dolls, otherwise I'm pretty sure younger me would approve of my collection :XD:

    10. This is an interesting question. My kneejerk reaction was "my tastes have totally changed since there's so much more on the market and I sold 3/4 of my old dolls," but when I think about it, the 3 dolls I have on my immediate radar right now tie back to my old wants.
      1. Fashion-size Saint - Didn't (still kinda doesn't) exist, but I always loooved Saint. I just didn't want a doll that big. (Still don't! Had a regular SD and he was too big.)
      2. A Resinsoul mini - I liked these when they first came out and just got one. Maybe a lot more modded than I had planned but still. Resinsoul is still the premier provider of cute big-nosed minis at a reasonable price.
      3. A Soulkid - I always liked Souldolls (and had a Soul-Sweet) but didn't like the look of the Soulkids as much as the bigger dolls. Now I do, newer Soulkids are lovely!

I think my previous wishlist had a lot of angst about wanting SD-looking molds in MSD size and that is much less of a problem now. (2/3 of my sold dolls were compromising the size I liked or looking for small sculpts similar to big ones.) I also have a thing about big noses and there are so many more big-nosed dolls now.
Some of my old wishlist dolls that I've lost all interest in are Leeke Edgar (SD head with a bigger-than-average nose) and Bluefairy Pocket Fairy Jimmy (I just don't enjoy tiny or child dolls as much).

Dolls I used to covet (with a magic shrink-ray) but am pretty ambivalent to now are CP Delf Soony and Volks F16/Lucas/Chris/Irvin/Kaelin/School A/all those similar SD molds. I still think the original Soony is gorgeous, and Minifee Soony does exist now, but the Fairyland Soony sculpts just... lack some of Soony's je ne sais quois? Still very pretty, but I think the cheeks are thinner.
For the Volks sculpt-family, the MSD equivalent sculpt just doesn't grab me the same way either and even the big ones feel less special - like I've seen that aesthetic pushed farther in more sculpts now. I've even seen particular dolls that I remember (with particular faceups/mods) up for sale and not felt a particular draw to them other than nostalgia.

    11. When I first was researching dolls as a young teen I really only wanted mature and pretty boys. Ringdoll Misha and Crobidoll Lance were the two I really wanted. I also loved Soom Breccia and Iplehouse Carina, but I kinda convinced myself that all of these SDs were just too expensive to ever save up for and too big to own. Semi-realism was also important to me and I HATED the idea of owning a tiny (I was really against anything that looked like a baby because it reminded me of the reborn/silicone baby communities which I find pretty off-putting) but now I'm totally open to anything. I definitely prefer that any dolls I pair or photograph together look good proportion and style-wise but other than that I'm just ~listening to my heart~ and getting whatever I end up liking. I currently have a realistic mature tiny Limhwa Mari and a Unoa Sist with a Souldoll Bonnie/Gana (Gana's a free event gift lol they'll share a body for a while) and a Sio2 Aoandon on the way.

    12. When I was new to the hobby, I was all about goth/scene dolls, so everything on my wishlist looked like something from Final Fantasy or Hot Topic or a mix of the two. Now, most of my crew is more casual, grunge, punk or hiphop. I also wanted a lot of MSD sized dolls from DollZone and AoD. Now I prefer more realistic SD sizes. And every one of my dolls had black or white hair for a long time! Now most have natural shades from blond to dark brown, but I do have one with purple/black.

    13. Well, my wishlist has gotten smaller LOL (this is because I GOT most of the dolls on it)
The list of characters I wanted to shell got somewhat larger than what I had envisioned at first, but not changed otherwise. Dolls - the sculpts I wanted to get to shell some of the characters changed depending on availability & new dolls coming on the market. I've only made one total flip - where I had shelled one character w/a sculpt but decided I should make that doll another character (this because suddenly a doll that would shell my first character PERFECTLY appeared on the market).

    14. Hmm, my wishlist in the old days was pretty small, because there was a definite lack of what I really loved and wanted in dolls, particularly the men. Now though, Granado and DollClans are at the top of my dream list, because good gracious, that's what I've been wanting from the start!

So, my wishlist has changed quite a bit because the doll companies have finally caught up to what I've wanted! XD

    15. It would kind of depend, for me, which list you looked at (red = miss; yellow = part right; green = mostly right):

When I first discovered BJDs (grade school and middle school):
      - DOT Tender Shall (not my aesthetic at all anymore)

      - Unoa Lusis (I quickly realized I only liked this doll for her teeth)

      - DomaDoll Jado (Now I don't really enjoy fantasy dolls, but it does have an unconventional beauty, so eh)

      - DomaDoll Cookie (This doll doesn't match my aesthetic, but along with Anderl--who's mentioned later because this head was meant to shell a character--is probably the only doll I regreted not being able to buy, but I had no income and no money)

      - LatiDoll Cookie (Her face is a bit too conventionally cute for me now, and I know I'd hate the poseability)

      - PlanetDoll Mini Riz (I got the MSD version instead once I realized that fashion dolls had tired me of 1/6th scale)

Right before I started purchasing BJDs (Late Middle and Highschool):
      "Eurydice" (Arial Underwood):
She was supposed to be a 5th Motif Venitu (lol, like I would do a MtF mod on that), but then I decided a wanted more defined hips and larger lips. So total miss on the character now, although I still like the Venitu aesthetic (but not for her). Her body has been modded to have an extra arm joint, a bit like Doll Chateau, so the awkwardness of the 5th Motif body is preserved at least.

"Orpheus" (Anu): She was supposed to have a muscular body (Nobility Doll Female), but I kind of switched the end role for her and Arial. Now she's a science nerd, so I kind of like that her body isn't muscular now. I had no idea what to use for a head (I only knew of Twigling with a distinctly African-featured doll), so when Amanda Beauty came out, I snatched the head. So 50/50 correct.

"Kore" (Mneme Mori): She was supposed to be an OrDoll Anderl, and she's an Or-Doll Anderl. Originally I was planning a BlossomDoll body for her, but decided on SupiaDoll because they offered a small bust too (and a smaller body, because she's meant to be slight). Now I know the BlossomDoll wouldn't have worked because I dislike the legs and knees, so I stayed pretty on track with this one.

"Hades" (Eldritch Aidoneus): This guy was supposed to be a Granado Mads on a Dollstown 18 body. Check and Check.

"Charon" (Nivian Loreley): Nivian was supposed to be a girl, so miss, even though I didn't get very far trying to shell the character as a female (no sculpt ideas whatsoever, probably because the character is more interesting and contradictory to me if he'd been socialized as a guy). I only briefly considered shelling him as a LumeDoll Blaze (totally the wrong scale).

"Prometheus" (Suri Stein)/"Athena" (Petra): This gal was supposed to have pretty masculine features, and an aquiline nose (so I'd need a boy sculpt). She was also supposed to be something which was a combination of my "Athena" (Petra) and Suri, but (if you're sensing a common theme) that character had too much going on in too many directions, so she split in two. I originally planned an AngelsDoll Massive body (stocky) with a Dollshe Saint head. I think the LLT Roderich (and for Petra, the UniverseDoll De'Ath head) match the masculine aesthetics of Saint, while adding more realism and detail that I like (Saint is a little bit less realistic than I like). The AngelsDoll massive was no longer available once I had the money to buy BJDs, so I went in favor of the Granado Female Nuevo body (and FantasiaDoll Muscular for Petra). So I was able to have my female muscle body (originally intended for Arial) and a super poseable stockier (in the BJD hobby) for Suri. I think I did a pretty good job with this one.

"Hermes" (Holi'sse Meriwether): This was really my only flat, underdeveloped character (I tend to cram too much, not make my characters seem one-dimensional). I intended this guy to be a Dollshe Hound, back when the character was a fairy, not an angel-like creature. He's much more interesting now, and with his shell of a Dollclans Vezeto/Dollzone 71cm boy body. I would have hated the Dollshe Pure Body--very unrealistic proportions.

I didn't fully develop my Dollshe Arsene/Dollstown 17 Boy hybrid's (Secernere) character until college--the character was originally merged with Eurydice and Orpheus (I was trying to do too much with one character), so they're not included on the list. I never planned to shell Dolos, so I didn't include him here, along with my Impldoll Nicolas, who originally existed as a character, was discarded, and then I needed him again once I had a younger main character (Secernere) again--he's sort of a parental figure.

    16. My collection now is pretty similar to how my wishlist was when I started, but the main difference was that I started leaning more towards mature sculpts (20-30ish looking in age vs. high school age). I also weeded out most of the non-fantasy dolls from my "must have" list. One thing that hasn't changed is that I still like dark eyeliner/eyeshadow in faceups for my dolls, even the boys :whee:

    17. I've stuck with my preference for mature tinies and other dolls in scale with them, but exactly what I like has changed. I originally wanted a bunch of anthros, and except for Fairyland's Pukisha, I've lost interest in them.

    18. I eventually ended up with most of the dolls that were on my list "back in the day" in my collection... and I still like them. I have added more recent sculpts, and sculpts with different styles to the crew, but my heart is still with the Old School look of the classic Delfs and Volks sculpts I've loved from the start.

    19. Luts 13s(Diez) has been on my wishlist and i missed it in last summer event...I'm still struggling because I saw others' pictures which are 13s, Diez should be the same sculpture but some others said it's a little bit different from the original ones in 2013 event. I was considering and missed the time. I'm still thinking about it now....

    20. Whoo boy. My original wishlist, from when I was an over-zealous newbie, was every single doll I liked from every BJD company that existed in 2010. Every. Single. Doll. My list was somewhere akin to 200 dolls, and a lot of the companies that exist today weren't even around back then.

Now my collection and wishlist are capped at 14 max. I only add dolls to my wishlist if there's a character I want them to fulfill. My wishlist is currently at 6 dolls and I think that's plenty for me.

    21. My character list has expanded & the characters have become more 'fleshed out' so to speak, but that's all that's different. Same concept, same core group of characters.
The dolls? I originally, when I started, had some Dolfie Dreams on that list. I figured out very quickly (first doll meet where I SAW one) that they would look totally out of place. Also, some of the dolls on the list were discontinued, some were replaced by sculpts (either new or ones I hadn't seen previously) that I thought fit the character better. The additions to the character list came about whenever I found a new or previously unknown to me sculpt that I loved LOL Also sometimes I'd see a doll on the MP that would work just as well as another sculpt I had on my list (only cheaper, w/FU, shipping NOW :d) so I'd get that doll instead of the new one on the list.

    22. When I first started getting into BJDs I remember liking tinies/yo-sd sized dolls. But honestly, looking back, it may have only been appealing due to the fact that they were less expensive and being a 14 year old with no income...it had a better chance of happening than some $600 dolls, hahaha. There's ONE msd I'm still pretty into but sadly the store seems to make their doll sales seasonal now or something. I also think my taste in dolls is more unique compared to what I liked years ago. I currently have an elf, a super skinny boy, and a girl with huge hips. XD

    23. Funnily enough, it hasn't changed at all. I'm still hunting those old-school sculpts that I loved when I started, some twelve years ago. Two times, I did try one of the more modern sculpts (I had a IH Kamau for a time), but they are just not for me. I just love the old-school look.

    24. When I first got into BJDs I liked large dolls, the bigger the better! But nowadays I like the YO-SD size best.

      • x 1
    25. When I first started to search the hobby few years ago I didn't like VOLKS at all, but recently just started getting into them a lot

    26. When I started back in 2004 there were many fewer options than now. I've always liked Volks and now I have more than a few. I discovered fairly quickly that I didn't care for 1/4 scale so I sold my MSD sized dolls and swore I'd never get another.

That changed when Unoas became more affordable. I now have a Sist, Lusis, Zest and a Bimong Meronica in the same scale.

I've also added some more realistic sculpts like Iple EID to my family. I have 3.

    27. definetely changed ^^ but I can put more restraint because of my budget (lol)
but usually I changed because seeing new dolls or someone selling his/her limited edition cutie sculpt :')

    28. I've definitely changed over the years. I got my first BJD in 2013, both from Luts. I've definitely changed in terms of what aesthetic I prefer. I'm going to be selling all my resins soon because I'm just not attracted to them anymore. I prefer Dollfie Dreams and Smart Dolls now.

    29. When I first joined this hobby, I thought MSDs were the size for me! I didn't want ANY yo-SDs, no-siree! And I didn't want anything bigger than 60cm either. Too big! Nope, no can do!

My collection is now evenly split between YoSDs and 70cm dolls, with nary an MSD in sight.

    30. Well... first of all, I'm expeting my 29th and 30th doll right now... and thinking of coming back to my very first OC with helpf of another sculpt... so it's been a long way and I'm coming back to my roots xD

1.From less expensive (Resinsoul, Doll leaves) to more expensive and Korean (Soom, IOS, Crobi, Migi) to just any... Now I have anything from Akagi to Volks.

2.From SDs to MSDs to YoSDs to MSDs to SDs being my fav... I started big, went into tiny, fell ouf of love and came back to loving the BIG dolls <3 sd17 is the thing ;)

3.From boys-only to girls only to, now, girls mostly but some boys too <3

4.From gothy into light& cute to gothy again.

I guess the dolls reflect my personal struggle to find my own identity (artistic, sexual etc). IThey travel with me in this stylistic way... And I like it. I don't always like the things I did in the past just as the money I spent on some dolls I later disliked, but I also look back and see how far I went and I love it ;)

    31. I liked sad dolls like Dollstown's Seola in the age 7 size. Vampires and Gothy dolls too. As time went on I ended up going for the older girls. Still love a pensive looking doll.

    32. My wish list then (2008) and now is not different. I got what I wanted. Isao & Reisner were my first love. The other dolls are the "in between dolls". I am happy with F38 Christian, a Sato FCS. Can't complain about SD16 Yukinojou (Joe). Ryoma Sakamoto needs a new faceup, otherwise, he's perfect. Olivia Morgan is Yukinojou's choice, I've got to love her like Joe, Olivia and SD16 Yukinojou have similar sculpts, they look like a couple together. The 2 small dolls Yo-Midi Reisner and Y0-SD Isao are smaller versions of the 2 big boys.

In between, I sold Howl from Luts and Sphaler from Soom. I miss them, especially Sphaler but his Soom white skin could not blend in with the rest of my doll family in normal skin.

    33. My doll preferences have widened moreso than changed. I started out liking cute/pretty/handsome sculpts and an anime aesthetic. I still like these features a lot, but now I particularly appreciate older-looking sculpts and the sort of faces that one wouldn't necessarily expect to see in doll form. :)

    34. You gave me such a shriek of laughter, it startled my cat! :kitty1 I was exactly the same as a newbie - same year as you too! Yeah - every single doll! :3nodding:

Seven years on I'm only interested in dolls from two manufacturers. I have a bunch to sell. I've figured out what I really love and my wishlist is now only two or three more. Wish I'd known back then how my tastes would change!

    35. When I first began (well over a decade ago) my intention was to create an "urban fairytale" as a way of expressing my own life experiences in a creative, fantasy-based way. I've never strayed from that initial goal which is why I've pretty much stuck to my wishlist of basic characters, displays and core companies. The slightly anime styles of Luts and Volks have continued of course, but I became enamored with new companies that popped up along the way too (like Doll Chateau.) My world was always designed to be very Tim Burton-esque in its eclecticism anyway, so it was very easy to incorporate the new and odd into my original aesthetic as my story grew. Not that there wasn't the occasional miss step along the way of course, with size issues and a bit of reshelling as better representations came along with time. And natually the numbers grew well beyond what I initially thought they would. But looking back on it all, I think the "old beginner me" would look at my collection now and give it a big thumbs up.;)

    36. I've had quite a lot of changes, starting with moving from 1/3s to 1/4s. When I first got in to the hobby back in 2008, I was very much into anime and my tastes reflected that. I liked dolls with soft features and huge eyes. My first doll was Luts SDF Blanchet and I adored DoDs. Nowadays I prefer more realistic ones - okay, I have several minifees, but most of my crew are about as realistic as you can get in 1/4 size.

    37. There are definitely some changes, I've had removed some dolls in my general wishlist that I used to adore but have since moved on from because they no longer captured me the way it once did. Mind you, these are the dolls that I'll just throw into the wishlist if I like them just a tiny bit, whether or not I will buy them LOL. I also have a priority wishlist (these are the dolls I need to have) and the dolls on that list have been on it for like forever LOL. Looking back though, I don't think there have been much change in my doll preference or taste for a certain aesthetic, I still go for the same kind of dolls as I did back then. Once I was deciding between two sculpts and a friend suggested one of the sculpt and said it was because he looks like my "kind of doll" LOL. (Apparently my boys all gave out the same vibes lmao). I didn't even realize it until she pointed it out LOL. So I guess any changes is likely due more to the "chemistry" or affection I feel for a certain sculpt than a drastic change in taste.... I guess?? :aeyepop:

    38. Wishlists just never stop renewing. More and more added to wishlist.

    39. At first all I wanted was one dollfie dream(which I got) but one thing led to another and I ended up with 4 bjds.

    40. I'm not going to post my whole wishlist - it would take up too much space! : >
there's surely been a huge change, and by huge I mean size. when I first started the hobby I swore to myself I would not be getting a larger doll, but like all things you say no to in this hobby, your willpower eventually breaks. I've got several sds now looking for bodies, and more that I'd like to purchase in the future. I've practically sold all the dolls that were on my original wishlist when I joined the hobby, though. I've either completely said goodbye to the character or reshelled them into something entirely different.

    41. Yes. Ive bought unplanned dolls because of the sculpts :XD: i usually buy the dolls that i dont really like because of the price and the was like a few mos ago i was thinking about the number rather than getting what i would like but now ive sold some and im buying the ones on my real wishlist slowly :3nodding:

    42. I have always been somewhat of a "revolving door" collector, I like to buy dolls to see them in person, get them face-upped, eyes and wigs, then I tend to lose interest, so my wishlist has always been in flux. Originally, in the first days of getting into the hobby I was into Elfdoll in a big way, then Limhwa, then Supia. I had a bit of a fantasy doll phase, then just an "any doll that takes my fancy" phase. These days, I love dolls that look like dolls, and super early Volks are really keeping me very happy. I don't have a wishlist, I just keep an eye out for the old discontinued FCS heads on the marketplace, and bring them home as and when I can. Some stay, some move on, I don't think that aspect of my collecting habits will ever change, but I feel a lot more settled in terms of style now. I only collect Volks, and only older sculpts, that stops my collection from getting out of hand. There are so many companies producing lovely dolls now, I know if I go looking I will find more that I like, so I just don't look!

    43. I started out very strict--Bluefairy Tiny Fairy (MSD-sized) dolls, and those still form a large part of my collection. However, the company changed the bodies to double-jointed, and I dislike the new bodies a lot, but I treasure the ones I bought before. I have a few Luts Kid Delfs, which are charming, but again, the company messing with the bodies changed my mind!

Volks caught my attention, and I tend to collect mostly those dolls now. I have a few others from extinct companies (Angel Region, Dream of Doll) because they were older, inexpensive, and tugged at my heart (repair projects!), so I adopted them and play with fixing them up.

I ventured into Dollfie Dreams a few year back as my husband finds them amusing--they are his favorites of my collection. As far as he is concerned, I could sell off the lot, but keep the Dollfie Dreams (men!). This year I did finally get a couple of resin Volks SDs (older ones, SD10), and wow, they are so beautiful, but it will take some time to get used to the size.

    44. I started out collecting SDs, but now my collection is more geared towards MSDs.

I also thought I'd never buy any minifee (I'd only seen Celine & Chloe and thought they were overrated), but now I have 6 (both current and incoming) - no Celine or Chloe, though (yet)

    45. i reeeeeally wanted my first doll to be vilitunes lamoony chan, but a week before the pre order i saw secretdoll ming and she won my heart T____T so i ordered her instead

    46. Well I've only been the hobby a few months but already there' been wishlist changes vs. the dolls I have. I started out wanting £400/£500 Luts and DollZone SD's but they're just not financially possible for me and I don't know if I want the sculpts anymore. Now my collection consists of three floating heads, two of which are elves and the other an MSD which I never thought was a size I would have. Now I like the idea of finding heads I like/want and building them up with a body and it's cheaper that way too which is better for me!
Edit: I'm back to looking at Luts for bodies for a floating head :XD:

    47. My wishlist has been fairly stable, based on what's on it. I was able to get two of the sculpts who'd been on it for a long time, and I'm still largely happy with them; I'm still fairly solid with the ones who are still on the list, too. The biggest change is who's been added since; there's a company I didn't care for at all when I started that now has a solid representation in my collection, there's a lot more humans on the list, and a lot of companies that have sprung up since I originally wrote it.

    48. I started my collection with original Delfs and a pair of Elfdoll Catsy. On my wish list at various points were Luts, Bambicrony, and Iplehouse dolls and Puki Pukishas as well as plethora of other random dolls from SleepingElf to Elfdoll and Volks FCS elves. The only ones that really stuck were the original Luts dolls.

My collection in recent years has deviated from its normal aesthetic with a dash of Doll Cheateau.... never thought I would own one... did not like them, but now I have two!

    49. I love pretty much all style of dolls, so as the hobby has grown, my wishlist has just gotten longer. I really only buy older discontinued sculpts at the moment due to my budget. Interestingly, a lot of them are dolls that were just being released as I was getting into the hobby and didn't look too closely at then; I can now see them for the diamonds in the rough they are now. Doesn't mean I don't love current releases as well though! So I guess in a way I went backwards...not only do I still want all the dolls on my wishlist from 2005, I've just added about a mile's worth of other dolls to it too. :doh

    50. When I first looked into this hobby when I was 13, I loved Luts dolls, specifically Junior Delf Terra. He was the doll I wanted so much, but I felt like I would never be able to afford him, and I had no character for him, I just liked his sculpt. Now that I'm older and have a better grasp on money, I realize I just want MSD and smaller, so he wouldn't fit at all. I've got two dolls on order, a Resinsoul and an Akagi Doll, and I'm beyond pumped for when they get here!

    51. My wishlist is mostly the same, or at least very similar. I removed some dolls that are discontinued and that I am not going to actively look for - although I'd probably buy them second-hand if I had the chance, and I've added some new dolls, but the core of it is still the same as it was in 2011.
A lot of other dolls have snuck in through the side door, though. Including a few from companies that weren't on my radar until I accidentally came across their dolls in the second-hand market. :)

I never planned to have Soom dolls, not even tinies. But I now have three, and although there are none on my wishlist I wouldn't be surprised if one or two jump out at me in the next year or two... LOL!!

    52. I started out liking really realistic sculpts. I tend to browse Iplehouse and Supiadolls. I also was looking at owning Little Monica dolls when I started. Now I'm really into unusual sculpts, so it changed completely from liking realistic to overly stylized. In my opinion, Dollzone still has realism to their sculpts, but it's more unique. I also have two Doll Chateau sculpts on my wish list as well.

    53. I've been collecting bjds since 2004... Things have changed, but also remained the same. They TYPE of dolls have changed a lot. At first there were only Volks SD-13 sized dolls and some Volks MSD sized-- and other companies made dolls in similar styles and sizes.

I happen to like a wide variety of dolls, so of course things changed as so many sizes and styles of dolls were more and more available.

But, my Wish List is usually exactly what I end up buying... so I have most of the dolls I wished for. And I still have my dolls from the very early days--I still like them all... I think my dolls would be different if I started buying at a different time-- but it's not because my wishes changed, more that dolls being sold have changed.

And WIsh Lists will always be different from a collection that includes dolls that haven't been made when the Wish List was created, I'd think... I mean, unless you JUST made the WIsh List. But over 5 or 10 or more years...

    54. I went from wanting a lot of minifees and random dolls I found pretty to dolls that fit my characters that I also happen to like. I still like minifees, but I wouldn’t own one as none fit any of my characters. Now my doll taste is more stylized but somewhat realistic dolls. So semi realistic? Not sure but I know what I like.

    55. It's only been a year, but my wishlist has started to skew heavily towards larger dolls. My early wishlists were full of tinies, like REALLY small ones, and now I kind of avoid them generally. My preference is larger MSDs now, usually around 50cm. I still have some wishlist tinies, but most of them are more pipe dreams than anything.

Who knows? Maybe by this time next year I'll be into SDs even though I find them unappealing now.

    56. Since I haven't been in the hobby for long, I can't say that my taste changed... There are few dolls on my wishlist that I'm no longer interested in buying. BUT, I was able to get the 2 dolls that I wanted for so long and were the first on my list. I am very happy with my current collection, and I don't feel like getting a new doll in the meantime.

    57. With the exception of Crobidoll's Dante I actually managed to buy all of my original wishlist dolls. These days I'm not looking to grow my collection, so I no longer have a wishlist (although of course something new could always catch my eye). What's been interesting for me is that while I enjoyed all of those wishlist dolls that I brought home, they didn't all necessarily end up as my favourites, so that's changed the way I approach my dolls a little bit.

    58. My wishlist used to only consist of Fairyland dolls - since then I've discovered some beautiful artist dolls!
I have lost count how many times my grail changed since being in the hobby. But I'd still love my first grail. Migidoll Jina. He will always have a place in my heart.

    59. When I first started, my wishlist was just a large list of sculpts of various sizes that I thought I liked, mostly influenced by company pictures.
It changed shortly after I received my first doll and realized what I felt towards her, her character, her size and her style in terms of facial features.
So after that experience my wishlist got really small and it has changed a bit from time to time as I buy new dolls or decide that I have a new character I want to see in resin or another one doesn't feel the same.

    60. I’m a sucker for a good fantasy fullset so back in the day I was very fond of the fairyland dolls. They seemed so out of reach at the time I tried to just pretend they didn’t exist haha... There was one crobidoll SD boy that I really was sure I wanted but for some reason I never wrote down the name? I’ve since looked around for him but I can’t find him?? It was years back so I wouldn’t be surprised if I just remember what he looked like wrong. Overall I managed to basically not make a wishlist. I wanted all dolls but I couldn’t afford any on my own. I was gifted both my dolls which I am deeply grateful for.

My collection now is beyond my wildest dreams! I have a Fairyline Altis fullset on the way and am circling a handsome ringdoll. My tastes haven’t changed drastically but now that I have my own income I can make a wishlist without feeling bad about it. I think the only major changes in my taste are that more mature male dolls are appealing to me now and I’m more open to anime styled dolls. Still love fantasy dolls and their fullsets <3
