As someone who is relatively new to the hobby, I'm very curious about this. I've been having some trouble finding wigs that I really like. Which doll company/artist makes your favorite wigs? Do you buy wigs from the same company that makes your dolls, or do you go elsewhere? What kinds of wigs/materials are your favorites?
I've always loved Jpopdolls and Monique Gold Label wigs. They are SUPER soft fiber, come in many styles and colors, and are very excellent quality. Most of my collection consists of these wigs. However, I just got two human hair wigs with the secondhand elf Dahlia I bought, and wow, these things are amazing. I thought they might creep me out, but they don't. And they're so nicely made, and so realistic. Nice and heavy and natural. Also, they seem easy to take care of than fiber. The wigs I got were horribly tangled. The straight one brushed out pretty easily and didn't lose a lot of strands. The curly one, I washed using my own hair conditioner and ran a comb through it to take out the tangles. Worked like a charm, and the curls remained in the wig (and it smells awesome as a bonus). With fiber wigs, loose curls tend to eventually straighten out, and tight curls get tangled very easily and are hard to keep tamed. I will say, though, that human hair wigs are expensive, ranging from around $50 for the smallest sizes to well over $100 for the largest. I'm still considering selling a bunch of the fiber wigs I have for my Trinity and Lusion and investing in a few more of those awesome human hair wigs, though.
I've always been a fur wig kind of person, so I used to buy from Monstro and Echo...BUT! I recently bought For My Doll fiber wigs and I'm an absolute convert, they are so soft and the colours are really nice, they range from realistic to the more alternative ones, they also do them in more sizes than the most popular 3 (8-9,7-8,6-7). I could easily blow a lot of money just FMY wigs x3
I get all of my wigs from Leekeworld. I love the variety of styles and colours that they have! The only issue is that sometimes they can be a hit and miss, like the lighter colours might easily show the wig cap or the style might not look super similar to the sale pictures. But overall, I've been very satisfied each time I've bought from them.
My favorite wig companies are Kaleidoll and SSeiren. I don't care for the Monique Gold wigs. I've bought several and the fly away hair's are unmanagable and won't take a style. I've bought fairyland, Leekeworld, Angell Studio and they're really nice but they don't compare to Kaledoll wigs or SSeiren for my dolls.
I've bought from a few different sources, I do like (and will keep) my Monique Gold wigs, but the rest I'm slowly replacing with For My Doll wigs, which are quite nice and extremely easy to get in nearly any combination I want! My dolls are all characters (fandom or OCs) who have their looks set already, so being able to find the perfect wig has been something of a struggle at times. Having the huge number of options from FMD, along with the excellent quality of their wigs, has really made things easier for me, and I'm never disappointed with what I've gotten from them!
I would have to say Monique Gold Wigs, leekeworld and for mohair- chattybratty on ebay. Though I would say monique gold has the best consistency quality wise, leekeworld it depends on the style and for mohair well it depends on where it is cut lol. My all time favorite is kstarr- they had the most awesome wigs ever. Alas they are no longer in business.
Ironically, the only time I ever actually bought a wig was from an Etsy seller, and she no longer makes any! but I have found that as far as customer service, and quality, a lot of BJD hobbyists who do business on the side seem to do good work making wigs. My next wig purchase will most likely be Mohair, so I'll be commissioning through the forum or Esty.
I really love Licht. The color choices and styles are awesome, and they all look fantastic on my dolls! ^^
Another vote for Monique Gold wigs, especially the ones with the "skin" partline. I'm also a fan of Tibetan lamb wigs.
My go to wig is Monique Gold, they are my favorite and I'll pick a wig from them over anything else, even Leekeworld! I LOVE how soft they are and the colors are amazing (they're synthetic mohair I think which is not as poofy or curly as real mohair)! I have quite a few wigs from this collection. My second favorite wig place is Leekeworld, I have maybe two or three wigs from Leeke (more Monique though).
Monique. For realistic hair, I won't put anything else on my MSD dolls if I can manage it. Most wig fibers look out of scale at MSD size but the fibers in Monique wigs are so nice and fine! I prefer wigs that have a blend in fiber of two or more colors for any middle color tones (not platinum blonde or black but medium shades). It looks more natural.
I only love Leekeworld. I do not know why. I had other brands also mohair wigs but the Leekeworld fiber wigs are the best for me
Which doll company/artist makes your favorite wigs? Leekeworld + Ebay Do you buy wigs from the same company that makes your dolls, or do you go elsewhere? I go elsewhere What kinds of wigs/materials are your favorites? Mohair, Fur and Fibre (Fibre needs to be soft and not plastic looking) I gotta hop on the Monique wig train.
stormlight, i dunno if i just missed the link but where did you find human hair wigs? that would be amazing. i'm so glad you guys gave us all so many good links. i had the hardest time finding a wig for my first doll and i'm still not super, super crazy about it. hopefully one of these links will have the wig i had wanted all alone
I think Angell Doll have some really lovely wigs, and Iplehouse too (if you like more realistic ones!). I've actually got a few off Etsy cos they are often hand made and unique. I'm a bit obsessed with mohair wigs lately too- try LoongSoul!
Most of my favorites brands in no particular order: Volks, Leekeworld, Ndoll, Jpop dolls, Mandrake Himezakura, Zephyr, Crobidoll, Gold Ruchiru I like light soft fiber wigs. I like a mix of natural, fantasy, and two-tone colors. Most my dolls are Volks, and I have purchased a few Volks wigs. I think they have a nice selection of natural colors, but have purchased most my wigs outside of them.
I actually really really like a person who makes fur wigs on etsy her shop name is EchoWigs. she is AMAZING she made a difficult wig for me and it came out perfect
I love For My Doll. Their wigs have wonderful colours, and many many styles available, even really short ones for boys.
I like For My Doll and Dollmore. I haven't experienced it yet, but apparently FMD is good for doing custom wigs (like a style in a non-default colour.) They also have lovely customer service. Dollmore's photos aren't great, but all the wigs I've got from them are beautiful. I got a really long ginger wig that is just the prettiest thing ever.
I love Volks and Crobidolls wigs. They both have very soft synthetic hair fiber that I've had an easy time keeping in good shape, even years after purchase. I particularly like that Volks wigs are parted and have visible parts rooted into a false scalp. It's an extra detail that I appreciate.
I'll have to look up for my doll wigs... i also want to maybe look into natural mohair at some point because of the attractive texture. i've just gotten a monique gold wig and I'm in love with it! So fine and soft! It sheds a bit, but that may be because it's still new, as its mostly stopped doing that. I can't get over that lovely texture! What wigs have a similar feel to monique? Most of my wigs are Leeke because they're nice and also reasonably affordable. I prefer fiber over fur, but the two fur wigs I own are both Spite and Malice (I also had a SOOM one at one point, until I got a puppy and accidentally left it within reach of said puppy, and also I found it shedded a lot and didn't really like it that much). I do have one gorgeously soft wig which I can't remember where I got it from which is a shame because it's literally like running your hands through silk strands when you touch it. It's very flyaway and does require a lot of care, however.
I purchased wigs from For My Doll, Fatiao on eBay, and Licht Bjd. I love all of them but my next purchase will probably be a mohair wig from Iplehouse. So far the For My Doll wig is my favourite, the colour is exactly like on the pictures. *.*
so far I've only purchased VOLKS and LeekeWorld wigs and I'd say those are my favorite. A friend of mine has a 2 Dollmore wigs and while one is really nice the other isn't very good so I'm 50/50 on them. doll-wig wigs are also really nice!
Leekeworld is hands down my favourite supplier of wigs. I love their styles and their limited colours. I've heard their quality can be a bit hit-or-miss, but I love all my wigs from them
I think I would have to say leeke and Volks are my favourite wigs. But when I got a wig from Kaleido... That is something good! The fiber they use is very soft, colors very nice and the wig itself is parfumed! It smells so nice!
Same here... most of my crew are in Monique wigs. I really like the finer texture of their fiber. One warning if you do go with those, though. You have to be careful brushing and styling them, because they're a little more fragile than regular fiber wigs. Also, you'll want to carry one of those anti-static dryer sheets with you when you're out taking pictures or posing the doll at a meet. The fibers are *so* light that if you have any static charge at all, fly-aways will become a serious problem. I'm also fond of fluffy skin mohair wigs (again, because I like the finer texture-), but some people have ethical issues with those since they're an animal product. (They're essentially leather with the fur still attached.) I have to go against the general consensus when it comes to both Volks and Leeke wigs, honestly. I've had very mixed experiences with Volks wigs, and while Leeke *used* to be exceptional across the board, in the last few years their quality control seems to have become very "hit or miss". Some of the wigs that friends and I have purchased from them have still been great, but others have been absolutely unusable. Wigs for smaller dolls have been particularly problematic in my experience. The Luts wigs I've owned have generally been nice, and the best "fake fur" one in my collection is an old 4D "boa" wig.
Which doll company/artist makes your favorite wigs? Monique Do you buy wigs from the same company that makes your dolls, or do you go elsewhere? Sometimes I buy from the same company, sometimes I buy from other companies. What kinds of wigs/materials are your favorites? Soft Fiber Here's what I've experienced. Dollzone: Sell fiber wigs. Their quality varies. You can often see the wig cap under the hair. The fiber is OK, but not very soft, hair may point in all directions sometimes. The ends tend to tangle and after some time of brushing and styling the wig feels like it has split ends. I've had wigs where I could basically see knots of hair through the hair itself. Others are really long, feel fine (even if the fiber is not that soft) and don't lose hair at all. Angell Studio: Sell Fiber and fur wigs. Their fiber wigs basically feel like DZ's wigs but are overall better quality. Monique: Sell fiber wigs. Their wigs feel very soft and the single "hair" is very thin. They use enough hair as well, so you never see the wig cap. Only problems I had with them is that their sizes vary. I bought two similar 6,5 inch wigs and one of them was noticeably smaller. Luts: Sell fur, mohair and fiber wigs (some also with heat resistance). The mohair ones are nice, but the dye doesn't always go through to the base. The fiber ones are softer than the DZ ones but the wig cap often stains the doll's head (they warn you about all their stuff basically doing that, though and also sell you silicone caps to prevent staining and a better fit). Iplehouse: Sell fiber and fur wigs. The one fiber wig I got was awful: loose hair and thread, uneven wig cap and not enough hair to really style the wig at all. Dollmore: Sell all sorts of different wigs. I only have a fake mohair one from them, but it is nicely done and easy to style. Leeke: Sell fiber and Mohair wigs. Their quality is said to vary a lot, and I've seen really bad examples of that, but my fiber wigs are fine. Compared to other companies and their prices, they are great for unique styles and colour choices. Some companies selling wigs are also the ones making them. Often that's not the case, though.
I've bought many kinds of wigs. But my favorite must be Leeke World wig. Their quality is good, have many styles, many colors and the price is affordable! I normally prefer heat resistant fiber over mohairs. But I guess it's up to person and which style of doll you want to have.
I think Nine9 has some lovely wigs. (I think that's the company anyway!) I usually buy wigs that I like, I don't go to specific companies.
I'll buy from anybody that has what I'm looking for and I have several different brands, but many of them are generic ones from ebay. I always start my search with Monique Gold, though. The fiber is soo soft and looks realistic. I just wish they had more fantasy colors. I also love fur wigs and have a whole bunch of them, even though only one of my dolls wears one. XD Other than that, I like Happy Camille, too. I'd love to try out For My Doll.
Nothing new, but I agree with the Monique Gold Label wig thing as well. It's the first wig Ivy has so Ofc I'm biased. But do be warned they kinda tangle easily. Idk if it's just mine or if it's all of them, I'm assume it's because the fibers are soo silky and soft that they wrap around themselves. (Does anyone know how to keep them from tangling up on every movement?)
All my girls have Tibetan mohair wigs from Natrume on Etsy except for Georgie. She has a Tibetan mohair from HaselAesthetics (also on Etsy). I just love the look and texture of the mohair so all my girls wound up with one lol.
I like angel studio wigs and doll heart so far. Not a big dz wig fan. I want to get a Natrume wig for Madeline. She will be my crazy hair girl.
Kim Arnold of The Trinket Box in Canada. She makes the most amazing wigs! All mohair, gorgeous colors, some with removable tails, ribbons, flowers. I mostly purchase them for my two Kaye Wiggs dolls but some I just purchased because they are gorgeous and I wanted them! And Natrume too. I love her long wigs. My avatar is wearing one of hers.
I too am having trouble finding a wig I like for my incoming Enni (Rakeru Sensei). Would it be all right to ask for photos and links in this thread, or is that forbidden? Thanks.
Monique make the best wigs by far. The individual hairs are fine and soft and great to style. They sit really well and don't look like wig hair
I don't really have a favorite wig or company....so far, I like furwigs and they are the cheap furwigs you can find on ebay.
I find myself drawn to mohair wigs and wigs with heat resistant fibers. I like shorter wigs in general. And I love random colors more than 'natural' colors like blonde, black and brown.
I have this old wig from Lichdt(?) that is the nicest shade of dark midnight blue and styled like a Prince-like anime character's. I haven't seen anything like it anywhere else. And also my boy Kaede's wig, it's this really cheap fur wig from Sunnys World and it's not the best quality but I love it because the colors are perfect and it photographs well and people keep asking me where I got it, haha.
Monique synthetic mohair wigs are my favorite and most of my dolls have them, but I also really like Iplehouse for short masculine cuts, and I have a really nice Leekeworld for my Minifee.
My dolls all wear different wig brands but my dream is to replace them all with Alpaca Fiber wigs! I love the natural look they have and the can come in all imaginable colors and styles. Since they're so damn expensive though I'm going to make them myself For the time being my girls wear mostly Volks, Crobidoll, Leeke and Lullaby Poem wigs :3
Most of the wigs I have came from Etsy, though I do have one from Mimiwoo as well. So far my favorite wig is one I got from Astro Bliss Imaginarium on Etsy. It's this big blond Bret Michaels-style wig and it makes Alistair look a little effeminate, but I absolutely love it on him. I do intend to order wigs from both Luts and For My Doll in the future, so my opinions may change. But for now, my vote is for Etsy fur wigs.
As far as wigs go, I really like Monique and Luts though for different reasons. The fibers on Monique wigs are lovely and easily styled. They also do great natural hair colors and they're in the U.S. (And that makes shipping marvelous.) I enjoy Luts though for the sheer amount of styles and wild colors. If I need a fun color, I tend to look at them first. Their fibers (while not as soft or pettable as Monique) do tend to hold up well over time.
I like For My Doll and Crobidoll for wigs. Monique is close behind. Their wigs are so soft! Licht has some very pretty (and unique) colours. I have a few from Iplehouse I really like but their quality doesn't seem to be as consistent as, say, Crobidoll. I've never gotten a bad wig from Crobi.
I don't have many wigs other than what came with my dolls. I really like my Dollfie Dream Asuna's wig, although in my opinion it's too dark for her character.
Chewin Gallapa's wigs for his boys look gorgeous, but pricey..,, I want to buy one so bad but I need to cloth my boys first so I'll continue with that & maybe treat myself, or rather them, to a new hairdo for the holidays....
Most of my wigs are from jpop. They are very nice quality and fast shipping. I have one Dollga wig and it is glorious. As far as Tibetan mohair goes, my Tinybear wig has the thickest fur I have ever seen. I just love it!
I just got a Monique Gold SD wig and, wow! Such quality! The wefts are silky and feel so soft. The style is really nice too. It has a center part and no wig cap shows. The color is called Flame and is a nice red with a golden yellow. By far this is my favorite wig!
I haven't really bought to many wigs... I used to prioritize new resin over wigs so I only ever had default ones.... I am going to buy some this time though so it's cool hearing more about the different companies here! One thing I do know is that I prefer the mohair/fur wigs. I love the other styles for taking photos and such, but my dolls default wigs will all likely end up being fur wigs. I find it easier to keep them neat and they are so soft! I also seem to be drawn to less natural colours lately... just bought my current little a pink fur wig from Alice Collections with the other doll I bought! Can't wait to get it!
