Have you ever come up with a doll concept that you fall in love with? Whether or not it worked out I'd love to hear some ideas and concepts you've come up with for your dolls no matter how vague! I'll share a recent vague concept i came up with for my upcoming MNF Alan that i like: he's going to be a pretty werewolf boy that wears pastel (and scene sometimes) clothes and will be kind of a rival to my angel character Zachariah.
I have a concept for some of my dolls. I am making a gumiho family. If i have enough dolls based on foxes maybe I will make different clans of gumiho families hailing from different parts of Korea. I think I will add kitsunes from Japan too. I will dress them all in East Asian traditional clothing and have them based in the past. Once I have enough supernatural/mythical dolls I think i will make a world based on my ideas set mainly in East Asia. Once i feel comfortable enough I will try making some supernatural/mythical doll characters from different countries as well. I think it will take years. This is if I don't lose interest in the world building because I never actaully did anything like this it seems hard. I think I will add an epic battle that last for centuries between clans that started over something stupid. I don't know yet. It will be about I don't know maybe two major families having a war between them for centuries. Edit: I have a werewolf doll and an angel doll. I think I will add them to my story idea, but I guess I am going to have to get more werewolf and angel doll items to make some dolls into a pack of werewolves for my lone wolf. I don't want my angel doll to be lonely, so i guess I am going to have to buy some parts to make more angels overseeing the earthly world.
When I ordered my first doll, he was entirely human and I got him because "I want thayt!" so he didn't have a real story/concept at all. Then I fell in love with my second doll, a Miracle Doll Dio who is an anthro weasel with an ancient monk outfit. And a world concept has built up around that second doll. Chu, the weasel, is an ancient Chinese spirit/lesser godling who's lived for...at least over a thousand years. Enough to have shapeshifting powers. (my best friend is Taiwanese, so I can vet all the Chinese lore through him which helps a lot). These spirits/godlings can either be tricksters (think the Japanese kitsune myth, and others) or protectors. Chu is the protecting type, and the human doll, Leander, is the person he's decided to protect. This also often involves marrying the one being protected, so Chu basically decides he's Leander's wife xD. My cat-taur is what the Chinese view as basically..."wise animals" - they're descendant from ancient animals, and while they're not as powerful as the spirits/godlings they are very smart, do understand human speech and can communicate in a way. Leander brings her home and Duan Duan becomes part of the little family. The being a cat-taur is not part of these myths/beliefs but I'm fudging it a bit and decided Chu teachers her this trick xD Then my Dream Valley Rah, Eagle version, decided to sprinkle a little Egyptian lore in there. I haven't worked out exactly why he seeks out this little family, but he just appears one day and is very intentionally cryptic. His name is Khafra, and no one's quite sure if he's a piece of Ra, an avatar of Ra, or something else altogether. I'm brushing up on my ancient Egyptian lore to get a better idea of what his story is going forward.
When I was younger, I had the idea to get a doll for every character I had in this story I had written. I ended up getting two, but never followed through with getting the last remaining character. I have since outgrown that story, so don't seek to continue it now that I've returned to the hobby, but it would be fun to do it with a different story I may come up with. Sadly, I'm no longer as creative with stuff like that, so I'm not sure if/when this will be the case. Being an adult that works full time in a creative field has ironically sapped a lot of my creativity.
Yes! I had this concept for a doll with a two-personalities situation (girl and boy personalities) due to heavy childhood trauma (early abandonment, body dysmorphia...). In the end, I never found a doll who could express what I wanted and realised maybe a doll wasn't the kind of media I wanted to tell this story through.
Since getting back into the hobby in the last couple months, I've decided to revamp the character ideas for the few dolls I still have! I'm having a lot of fun with it honestly, between slowly building up the character and also sorting out what sort of design elements I want them to have. I actually have pretty extensive plans for their face-ups/possible body modifications and the like! I'm still working on it but my Breakaway Vamp is going to be based around ancient China, and I'm pulling in elements of 'immortals' (Taoist ideas and alchemy) as well as some Jiangshi (stiff corpse) lore. Lol so basically he could vaguely be considered a vampire but really it's a bit more convoluted than that XD The Lu Wen is going to be some sort of snake spirit/lesser deity I think, probably based out of Japan. I've got some ideas but I've been pretty focused on my research for the first character lol, so he's gotta wait. The Woori is probably the loosest idea atm, as I know i want him to be somewhat 'celestial' or star-themed, but honestly I haven't quite decided what to theme him after specifically! I might just make something up at this rate lol.
I like to think of my dolls as adventurers in a fantasy setting. A few are bookish. But I also love the spooky doll concept.
It's not that original but I LOVE vampires. I'd love to have a vampire or jiangshi and I think I might make that happen, teehee
I admit most of my collection were impulse buys; rescues from the second hand market. But - I did try to shell an original character in to two different dolls which were deliberately bought brand new for that reason. I never did finish customizing them. Now that I am older and slowed down, I might actually sit down and finish them. The character is an undead daughter of a raven deity. I think the hardest part will be making her wings. In recent days I've considered shelling another character - but I may be custom sculpting parts for this one. He is from a fantasy/cyberpunk crossover setting; a unicorn satyr with mechanical implants! A little weird but I've been obsessed with this character for a couple of years now.
