    4. While I don't have specific voices for most of my dolls, I do know who would play two of them if they ever had voice actors. My character/doll Prodigy would be voiced by Laura Bailey with her Saints Row-like voice (apologizes for language!) and then my character Brink I'd want Matthew Mercer to play. :)

    7. My dolls are an interesting bunch vocally, as all of them have accents of some sort. My five shelled/half-shelled characters are as follows:

*Johnny is a shy teenager from London's East End. He has a high, soft speaking voice with a thick Cockney accent, while his singing voice is similar to a young Elton John's. I throw this in because singing is a big part of Johnny's character.
*Alistair is close to Johnny in age but has a lower, fairly loud voice. He grew up in southern Wales and has an accent to match.
*Chloe, being a leprechaun, has a childlike voice with an Irish accent.
*Johanna grew up in the U.S.'s deep south and speaks with a bit of a drawl. Her vocal range is medium-high, somewhere between an alto and a mezzo-soprano.
*Guinevere is Johanna's half-sister but grew up in a separate part of the U.S. Her speech has a bit of a northern whine to it, and her range is a little lower than Johanna's.

This is a VERY interesting question, by the way.

    8. I'm trying so hard to answer this seriously but I imagined Bob, my trickster god, sounding like 4Kids YuGiOh Mokuba and I just can't stop imagining it.
So Bob is a god who works at Wendy's and loves messing with people.
In all seriousness I think Bob would sound like
Drew is my other doll and he's just supposed to be a kind of social introvert dude in his late teens/early twenties.
I feel like Drew would probably sound like either
Jason is the taller one who doesn't have glasses and he's wearing a pendant
George is the shorter one with glasses and a striped shirt
I'm leaning a bit more towards the idea of him sounding like Jason currently.

I love this kind of stuff so much but I've never thought of it for my dolls before, this was a really fun question!

    10. Oooh, I've always had vague ideas about all of my dolls' voices floating around in my head, but I never thought to put it into words! :D
I think I'll stick to some of my Fallout-themed dolls, since I kinda have a lot. :sweat I do have some that I haven't really attached voices to in my head, so I'll just do the ones that I have. :P

Warning that my YouTube links may end up spoiling random stuff, so listen at your own peril! :XD:

Declan: kind of a mid-tone, slightly husky voice, I had created his character before Fallout 4 was released, but now that I've played Fallout 4, the male Sole Survivor's voice fits him to a T. :) (sorry the timestamp isn't working, he's the second line in the video :sweat)

Jericho: He's a little conceited, so I've always had the feeling like he's got a mid-toned voice, but with a really snooty/haughty kind of affect, so it would sound a little higher pitched. Probably like some of Crispin Freeman's haughtier-sounding roles.

Aaron: another kind of mid-tone voice, a little rough, but with a lazy lilt. Probably a bit like Matther Mercer.

Asher: he doesn't talk much, so he has a super-light, quiet, delicate voice. I feel like the timbre of his voice is the same as Yuri Lowenthal, but he would speak in an overly-measured, controlled kind of way.
John: Like Steve Blum; but his actual speaking voice, not necessarily one of his roles. :3 When he's not doing a role that drastically changes what he sounds like, I think Steve Blum has a really great velvety voice, and sounds so charming, and that's exactly how I see John's character.
Mathis: Charlton Heston; pretty much exactly. Like for real, his voice was so incredible.
My other Fallout-themed dolls (Amelie, Cyrus, Hannibal, Hunter, Kaiden, Morrissey, and Thursday) aren't quite at that point yet; maybe I'll add them in someday if I figure them out. :XD:

    19. One of the great advantages of being lazy and having pre-made characters is that you know pretty much exactly how your dolls would sound like. Nevertheless, here is a little chart of how my crew would sound like if the dolls had voices:

Loki - Tom Hiddleston (who else)
Tony - Robert Downey Junion (of course)
Captain America - Chris Evans (obviously)
Hawkeye - Jeremy Renner (never misses his target)
Captain Rex - Dee Breadley Parker (run out of funny remarks)
      Pepper Potts - Gwyneth Paltrow
      Ahsoka Tano - Ashley Drane
Emilia - my daughter Julia (really love her voice)
T'Gai Spock - Leonard Nimoy (logical)
and the most glorious of them all: Raphael Strange - Benedict Cumberbatch (who else?)

Well and that's it. And I swear that are all - until the nex brilliant character idea (who else said "One. Just one.").

    20. Hmmhmmm I never thought about my dolls' characters' voices until I came across this thread.

Guórén will probably end up sounding like a combo of Zac Efron (in the below video, he's singing a duet with Zendaya) and Josh Groban (love that guy's mournful songs).

Adhara is more difficult. I'm in between Heather Dale and Nightwish's current vocalist Floor Jansen where she's concerned.

Kokiden/Cookie went through various revisions before I decided she sounded best like Satou Akemi.

Okaasan-hime would sound like Hidaka Noriko, specifically during her work as Kikyo's seiyuu in the Inuyasha anime.

    22. Mattie's five, so the voice I've been hearing in my head for him is pretty childish. I guess the closest match would have to be a mix between Louise Belcher from Bob's Burgers and Tommy Pickles from Rugrats.

Andy... doesn't talk much. At least not to me, so I can't really pinpoint what his voice sounds like yet.

Ilari has a deep voice, akin to Ville Valo from HIM, but with a heavy Russian accent.

    23. Lucien has a soft, lazy voice that tends to end in a slight drawl or long pause. It's not deep, but it's not very high either- more like your standard young adult guy who doesn't talk much and prefers to listen.

Verm has a mismash of voices since he can't quite decide what kind of human voice or accent he wants to emulate yet. One minute he can have a reedy voice with a cockney accent, the next he's got a deep voice with a southern accent and so on. His favorites tend to be a tranquil, high pitched voice with a french accent and a middle range Boston accent.

Now my Hanazawa boys have distinct Japanese accents when they speak English. Aoi-Oni has a gritty, faded voice that sounds like he's recovering from bronchitis while smoking 4 packs a day. It tends to just fall off volume wise at the ends of his sentences, and he will often hiss in place of various 's' sounds. Akaoni has a cheerful, bubbly, energetic voice that has a slight lisp and might be just a wee bit grating on the ears when he gets excited.

    27. I can hear the characters voice sometimes, a lot of the time their voice(s) were just my voice in my head until I would begin to write their story, as I would write I could hear them and their accents and the like. I would never have a personal character with a voice that annoyed me like the voice of Lois Griffin (Family Guy) or Fran Drescher (Actress)
I had a handsome Iplehouse superhero body and he always sounded like Sam Elliot (Actor) to me
The female voices would often have a sort of techno echo to them :)
Can't wait to get another BJD and see what her voice shows up to be!

I love Japanese voice actors! ^^ So naturally I gave my dolls voice actors also when I was coming up with their character. ^^ A couple of them are character dolls, so they just have the same VA as their characters. The others sometimes change a little, depending on the anime I watch, but so far the fixed ones are as follows:
      Kivanos: Sakurai Takahiro
      Kiyt: Kugimiya Rie
      Hadar: Mizuki Nana
      Sakuya: Kobayashi Yuu

    31. My Lusis sounds like Carol Kane playing Lupi in Transylvania 6-5000...except without the romance. She is maniacally devoted to her brother Bellwether. He loves her too...but she annoys him completely most of the time.
Tishalulé sounds like a cross between Rihanna (when she’s high) and Naomie Harris playing Tia Dalma/Calypso in Pirates of the Caribbean. Quirky AND dangerous...with a powerful Second Sight that she doesn’t control very well. No leash on her tongue at all, she says what she thinks directly.

Edit: diagraming scenes from their story caused some voices to manifest before their dialogue is even written but 2 of my dolls are ‘silent’ as the grave even after years of being here. No voice, no communication, almost like a pleasant slumber, that is the vibe I get from those 2.

    32. Hey all! Forgive me if this seems like a weird topic, it's just something I've been thinking about.

Do you ever think of your dolls as... having a particular voice?

I'm talking, like, an actual speaking voice. I never really thought about it until I started trying to draw my doll characters and thinking about them more as cartoon characters. What type of voice actors would I cast? For some of my dolls, I legitimately cannot imagine a voice that would actually fit. It's kind of unsettling to even envision.

So how about you? I know a lot of peoples' dolls are actually supposed to be singers or musicians, so I imagine you must have imagined a particular sound, right? Do you base it on a musical artist you like? Maybe an actor or character?

Are you like me and can't imagine your doll ever having a voice?

    33. I don't think of my doll's characters as having specific voices, but imagine some of them being quieter or more confident. I write stories about them so I have an idea of what they sound like in my head, but its not something I could explain. I think my Real Puki duo would speak sort of like young kids. In the dialogue snippet I've written with them, they leave out words, and are sometimes louder than necessary. And one of my characters is deaf, so he speaks with a pen and paper or his hands.

There's also two who will switch to speaking in "Cat" or "Dolphin" when upset.

    34. The ones who were shelled had voices before they even became dolls - I also like to toy with the idea of accents :P Especially if the dolls clearly have a different ethnicity. But the guys who haven't been shelled don't really have a voice. Dialogue, yes, but I can't see them with a voice...not yet at least.

    37. i think it's still a different enough question from the game!

I can't say i have specific voice "actors" for my dolls but i know what they ought to sound like. I write a bunch of characters, and sensory information from them is all very important to me - how they sound, their body language, sometimes how their clothes smell - you know. i treat my dolls just like any of my other characters, so of course i do the same for them!

Caspian usually speaks softly, but has a clear tone at a medium pitch. He sounds a little tired sometimes. Rowe has a bright voice and a wide range of tone and volume, with a tiny bit of the stereotypical "flamboyantly gay" lilt. Medium pitch as well, and he laughs a lot. I dont own the third doll in their story yet, but he has a brassier tone, a slightly deeper voice than the other two, and always sounds annoyed.

Mordecai whispers almost exclusively, and otherwise sounds like he's about to cry. His words tend to wander in pitch as if he's not quite all with it, and sometimes he stutters.

Zechariah sounds a bit like an anime protagonist, lmao. Upbeat, higher-pitched voice, with a bit of rasp, and he sounds like an annoying brat lol. Charley has a deep but clear voice that doesn't match his baby face and speaks very formally.

maybe im just using some words that don't make sense but uh, hopefully that's parseable lol

    38. In terms of "voice", I mostly have rather vague thoughts on them. Like one being androgynous with a whispery/raspy quality, another having a rather warm mid-tone voice. So-and-so has a sweet, soft, voice. But they're vague even in my own head.
I do give my doll characters speaking quirks, though. Like one never uses contractions and tends to teeter a line between formal and trying to fit in, while another tries a little too hard to be as informal and rude as he can, dropping as many letters as he possibly can. Even things like a repeated phrase or the words they choose becomes part of a characters "voice" per se.

    39. I love questions like this. I always have my characters’ voices and manner of speaking in mind when I write dialogue so they are well fixed in my mind along with many other unnecessary and in some cases creepily personal details about each of them...

Uriah speaks in short, abrupt sentences. His normal voice is low and raspy, with minimal effort given so most things come out in a breathy mutter. Throw in some obscure slang and grunts and he can be hard to understand. However, when he is annoyed/trying to be intimidating he can be startlingly loud... and you realize he does have lungs, he just doesn’t use them much offstage.

Gailan takes care to speak with clear pronunciation. He can come across as stuck-up and nerdy because of it. He tends to stutter when startled or trying to speak more rapidly than he’s used to.

Gunther’s voice is deeply masculine and velvety. As part of his carefully crafted public facade, he speaks with an oily charm that will hypnotize you in the moment... and leave you feeling both flattered and inexplicably queasy when he’s gone.

Lysander’s voice is loud, shrill, and gushing with emotion. He whines, he growls, he preens and wails, and he’s constantly spouting off ridiculous non-phrases like “This is just the tip of the icing on my shipwreck of a lifecake!”

Gladys’ voice is naturally high and syrupy, but unless she’s playing sweet to get something, her voice is grating, dripping with sass and peppered with teenage-girl slang. She’s never been allowed to swear and is not very creative, so her go-to insults sound like they were made up by a 6-year-old, like “stupidbutt”, but she screeches them with enough conviction you would not dare laugh.

Dean communicates mostly in Looks and grabby hands (She might be mute, or might just not like talking).
Carrie has a softer voice. Her "no" is more, maybe, "I'm not so sure about it".

    44. I love this question!
So all my dolls have a voice, because most of them are either characters I RP (and therefore they definitely have a "voice") or characters I write about, so I imagine what they sound like - their cadences and rhythms and tones - in minute detail. For example, Roscoe speaks quickly and loudly, with a very Brooklynesque/Nuyorican accent while Mo lilts and hisses in over-precise, affected RP (with an Italian accent). Fia is as nasal and raspy as a woman can get without losing her voice but Kandyx is a singer so her voice is high and musical and she speaks with her full voice. The only characters who don't have voices yet are the dolls I've newly-purchased.

    45. Ffffff-- So I have to play because I know these kinds of details too well but it's an indictment of me and my compulsiveness:

Annix: Still boyish but cracking with puberty, soft and naturally lilting (he's Welsh) but as he ages he's flattening that out. Speaks slow and precisely (pedantic even)

Pike: Very very fast talker, hit puberty early and so sounds deep for his age, upspeaks like whoa (especially for a boy) and swears like a sailor. Can be raspy when he wants

Robbie: Purrs and speaks in slow, short sentences, artificially lowers his tone to sound sexy and mature. Manages to retain a Trans-Atlantic rhotic

Ramona: High and loud and a modest amount of upspeaking of the Canadian rising variant

Kandyx: Speaks with her full voice, very musical in tone and hyper-feminine (lots of "like"s and "ohmygod"s) something of a SoCal accent

Fia: Vocal fry in human form, she's raspy and cigarette-whisky-smoked, with an old-fashioned Hasidic-Brooklyn accent

Roscoe: Loud! Nasal! Light-speed fast! Brooklyn-Nuyorican inspired (for a guy from Faerun he's doin' ok). Never met a consonant he couldn't bludgeon into submission

Gilbert: Girlish and trilling, plays up an affectation to sound feminine and cute but xer natural speaking voice is similar to Kandyx's (full, musical, like a woodwind)

JoJo: Nasal and a bit lilting, he speaks quickly and upspeaks a lot for a boy, but without the affectation

Mo: When he speaks at all he hisses his sibilants and trills his Rs. Uses over-precise RP with an Italian cadence (English is not his first, second or third language)

Chanterelle: Childish but melancholy, not too much giggling or hemming and like-umming

Fuschia: Giggly and high-pitched like a child, speaks in bursts and has motor-mouth syndrome

Ramsey: High and sweet, childish in tone but steady and mature in rhythm

      Charlie- Evan Peters
      Lakin- Daniel Johns
      Tate- Kodi Smit-McPhee as Nightcrawler

The others have voices I can imagine, but I haven’t found their perfect ‘voice actor’ yet. Some of them are really specific, like Parker has a soft Swedish accent, is 17 years old masculine voice who sings baritone and typically has a sarcastic or smirky tone to his speaking voice. Others are more generic, like Meghan is a typical loud teenage girl with a decent singing voice.

    47. Already posted in the aforementioned Games thread, but I suppose I can expand on it!

Scarlet: Taylor Swift, obviously. That is who she is based off of.
Faye: Bingbing Fan, but a little more playful, and coy.
Carina: she is aphonic. Prior to the injury that caused this, she would have sounded like Isabel Lucas.
Foxglove: Meiko Kaji at her most subtly contemplative.
      Sage: A moody Jena Malone.

    48. Did anyone else ever watch the movie version of The Neverending Story? I'm pretty sure Hyacinth talks just like the Childlike Empress.

    50. Niccolo: like Patrick E McLean narrating How to Succeed in Evil. A little quiet and dripping with a constant state of disdain for everyone.
      Az: a nervous baritone.
Hyacinth: Slightly effeminate version of Bertie Wooster
Kanoa: Kuvira from Legend of Korra
Nick: a little like Sokka from ATLA

    51. Avalon, the closest I can compare to now, is Matt Mercer from Critical Role. That same inflection when he's up to something.

    52. My head-cannon voice for my doll Sonora is something like the singer P!nk. Maybe a little deeper, but a similar sort of rasp.

    53. I can imagine Odom sounding like Lucifer, especially when he is snarky.

    56. Thank you for this thread. This was the same thought I had months ago. I've already fished for real-life references for some of my BJD boys because I plan to form a BJD band soon.

For Kisaragi Shin (my Ringdoll Sol) the closest singing voice that came into mind was former Slaves vocalist Jonny Craig.

    57. I feel like the doll I'm sculpting would sound like Blue Diamond! Mature, but also light hearted.

    58. I've always imagined Flora with a light British accent like Lunafreya's from Final Fantasy XV, voiced by Amy Shiels, but Flora's voice would be slightly higher pitched. Her voice as a child would be Liliana Chomsky, who does the voice for young Lunafreya.

I imagine Jace's voice is similar to Quinton Flynn's, who voices Axel in Kingdom Hearts, although Jace doesn't talk in a sarcastic way like Axel does.

I think Lucy would sound like Sam Manson from the cartoon Danny Phantom, who Grey DeLisle-Griffin voices.

I'm not sure what Damen would sound like, and my other two dolls are toddlers.

    59. Crow's the only one who has a set voice. His default is the American male Inquisitor for dragon age inquisition, because the contrast is hilarious.
