I'm trying to make my own doll.. but I'm horrible at anatomy. @_@ But I'm also curious too~ Can you post the drawings/ blueprints you use while making your doll(s)?
Oh wow! I didn't even think to do that with my doll XD I'm making her up as I go! ( mine can be seen here ) :P I didn't know people do that. So of course I too would be interested in seeing this!
I used Noah's doll instructions to make the dolls that I've made. For reference for anatomy I've had several life drawing classes, but I also used classical sculpture as a reference. I used this book for the sculpture references. I also grab a bunch of photos of my favorite actors... >:3 which is why bastian ended up looking a bit like christian bale. ._.;; once I got the anatomy looking realistic, I started pushing and pulling till I got a stylization that I liked. Like... the bodies have much longer legs than a real erson... stuff like that. If you want to find something more stylized, you might use a turn around sheet for animation. Fineart.sk also has a ton of anatomy references and anime and cartoon turn around sheets- where the measurements are already done so that they are the same size no matter which way they face. Maybe that'll help. :3 http://www.denofangels.com/forums/showthread.php?t=29301 this is the thread with the full dolls I'm working on...
here's mine for the doll I'm making it's about 17" tall, and I'm starting the profile tonight...it'll be difficult cos i'll have to tape more graph paper to this piece..might go off bonk not really helpful to you because it's VERY stylized, but if you're just curious ^-^ I also tried making one using my real proportions...but it looked really dumpy scaled down ;_;
oops sorry I clicked post reply by mistake and i tried to click stop but it didn't work! I edited it should work now ^-^
I taught myself anatomy mostly from looking at my own body (and like 2 classes in highschool) and closely examining the drawings of my CLAMP manga and other comics I have lying around (I'm good at looking at things and then drawing them). Since I've drawn Powerpuff Girls fanart for a few years I was already used to simplified chibi proportions, which could then be easily translated to somewhat more natural looking proportions (and for my little one I chose to use the proportions found in the superdeformed angels and devils found in CLAMP's manga Wish). There's a preliminary sketch and a character concept in the first post of my thread here: http://www.denofangels.com/forums/showthread.php?t=92087
