YoSD Kimera

    1. I've put aside the tinie 15 cm one (cos the head is a challenge....)
And started working on her Yo version. I've never worked this big before, but I really like it!

Here are some prints and wip pictures

    2. she is such a cute sketch, I can't wait to see where she goes from here =)

    3. Thank you :) I hope she comes out ok and that I'll be able to finish her

    4. Looking pretty promising! Keep it up.

    5. Thanks! I'm really excited about this one too

    6. I've been working on her again today, the arms are in the form they should be, just a lot of sanding after it's dry. Made the body a lil' more symetric. Made 1 leg, hopefully it will be dry enough tomorow so I can use the one stand I have... the armature for the tail and horns is done, just need another horn part. I'm happy I could do this much today!

    7. I really like all the work you have shown so far.
Please keep posting the wonderful work-in-progress pixies.
I love Paper Dolls, and your cut-out working drawing reminded me of a Paper Doll.
That type of cut-out working drawing is a very good idea !!! You can hold it up to the doll easily.
Well done, and keep up the good work.

      (^_^)

    8. Loving her proportions in the sketch, she's going to look really good when she's in 3D!

    9. I'm so sad/depressed that I couldn't work on her yesterday... a whole day of school and then a training... got home at 23:35, so it was already time to sleep. Well luckily I'm home on time today, but the feeling of having broken a promise with myself is still there.

@Kwmelvin: I love paperdolls too, it gives a feeling as if your really close to the real thing that's comming :)

@Irandom: Yes I'm really excited for when she's finally done! Also one of the reasons I'm sad I couldn't work on her yesterday

    10. I've made the balljoints today! And cut her body/leg open. Still have to make the left leg, but the weekend isn't that far away luckily.

    11. I really like her shape especially the legs!

and I don't think it is like braking a promise when you get home so late that you cannot work on her anymore.

and I'm joining the club of people excited to see her finished :D

how large is she? (if it's a a4 paper behind then she's about 30cm tall or so?)

    12. She's around 26 cm tall :) She'll be around little fee size from fairyland.

      I've made the balljoints in her arms today and sandpapered the leg. I've still got to make the left leg ^^;;

    13. I can't wait to see more!! Love the style of her horns :)

    14. Super adorable XD

    15. I was thinking it would be smart to put the Digital sketch of Kimera on this one too, since officially the sketch was meant for the Yo version

    18. I've been working on her head today. The lips are still quite hard to do, but I'm actually really happy with how it came out.
I've put a joint in the torso and made the tail whole again. The right leg is also cut out and re-atached to eachother. It's the wait for it to dry now :)

    19. I opened the head and made the eyes!
The legs are more symetrical now too and the tail is also in pieces, it's going to be a jointed tail.

    20. awwwww!! Those legs are so cute :3 Her face is coming along very nicely!

    21. I asked my boyfriend to also make her in 3D for me if he would like and he said yes :)
He's going to start tomorow, I'm exited to see what he makes of it :)

    22. wow she is awesome! her big hips are so cute

    23. Here is an update on Kimera!

It's in 3D, I'm still working on her clay version, but it's boring stuff haha

    24. That is amazing to me.

    25. She's looking great!

    26. Thanks Glyndon and Morgan :)

My boyfriend and I both sculpt in 3D even though we both have different programs we love working in. He works in 3DsMax and I work in Maya. He also does it as his work and I dont :)

Here is another update on Kimera:

      She's comming along well :)

    27. I love seeing dolls made using 3d software, even though i have no idea how you do it!! I love her cute proportions :)

    28. She is coming along veeeeery well!! :D
It's interesting to see how other sculpt dolls on computer even if it's a different program from what I use.
I hope there are more updates soon, for example her cute face with more details!

    29. Thanks Aneemal, I'm also anxiously waiting to see your cute tiny be done <3

@Wilga: We want the body to be perfect first since that takes up the most time haha, but how it's going I think it will be soon :)
      You used Zbrush?

    31. No, I used Blender, but now I see it's not the most popular option, most of the people are using Zbrush. Maybe I should try it some day.
How do you (your boyfriend) find 3dmax for doll sculpting? Have you tried sculpting in Maya? (ops, sorry for so many questions)

    32. Zbrush seems like a good software, I would love to use it one day too.

To answer your question; we don't sculpt in maya/3dmax. We model :) Sculpting is what you do in programs like mudbox and zbrush. What me and my boyfriend do is make a very lowpoly model and shape it into the way we want it to be.
Because it's low poly we have a lot of power in the shapes we want. Smooth button and voila we have a very high poly model :)

    33. If you don't mind me jumping in: I also model in Maya, and then bring the model into zBrush to sculpt additional details and use its boolean operations. And I would say for modelling, there's probably no particular advantages to using Maya vs. 3ds Max vs. Blender -- the 'best' program there is going to be the one you're most familiar with.

    34. Nice finish Morgan :) Thanks for adding. And yes, me and my boyfriend always have arguments about our maya vs 3dmax. I can't work in 3dmax to save my life haha

    35. Meet the unexpected twin sister! She's going to have bigger boobies, but I still don't have a name for her yet... Any suggestions are welcomed. The hands and feet are already made, they aren't perfect yet, but they are comming allong

    38. Update~!

She's completely done now and I'm still thinking of letting Shapeways print her or iMaterialise.
Her twin sister also has a name already; Chimea

Here are the pics of her standing and the bounding box:

    39. She's lovely, can't wait to see her stand

    40. Thanks wings_of_a_dream, I'm really excited to get her home myself

    41. Aah, I can't believe I missed this thread. Congrats on getting her done! It is so funny seeing all her parts hovering in a box like that. Are her horns a different texture, and is that why they are a different color to everything else?

    42. Thanks Sailor, yes the are a wooden texture. I wanted to see how the horns looked like with a more woody feeling. Like the rams and such have :) I also thought it would bring out what I wanted more.

On a sidenote; I'm getting her printed at shapeways.

She looks so much better in person than the 3d version

    45. Amazing!! Is she strung?! I really like her proportions and overall shape. You've done a fantastic job so far... What will you do now?

    46. In the last picture she was fully strung :) Now i'm doing the hard work haha, the priming and sanding. Already got the faceplate finished

Then I'm going to see if I can cast her myself. I wanted to start a preorder too and let that be profesionally casted if people are interested
