Ylisande [Completed]

Apr 24, 2008

    1. You are so very talented. She is absolutely wonderful. I hope you take this as a compliment, but her face reminds me of Angelina Jolie. Wonderful work. I have sculped art dolls before, but never anything near the beauty of this sculpt. Amazing. Congratulations.

    2. I just got around to looking at this thread. She looks like a lovely African model. I know it's a hassle to cast in dark resin, but if I ever saw a sculpt that would look great in it, it's yours! :aheartbea

    3. Very beautiful girl!
      Congratulations

    4. Thank you :D I'm molding the torso today, and I am so excited. The parts so far have come out very smooth, so I have learned a lot since my last set of molds!! I have been taking pictures and writing captions for pretty much every stage of the moldmaking process so far, and I will be posting those up when I'm done:D

Thank you very much:D ~ glad you like her little potbelly! I surely have studied some anatomy (looking at pictures, books and in the mirror), and I also had some help and constructive critique from someone who knows a lot more about anatomy than I do.

Thank you ~ I love Angelina, so I'll take that as a compliment ;)

Glad you stopped by, Bunny!! :D I have been experimenting with darker resin mixes and I will definitely be casting her in several shades of tan to dark ebony if I can make it work.

      Thank you :fangirl

    5. wow she is amazing, i love how posable she is, and her body is so realistic! :D
her face is so serene and so FEMALE, i don't know how to explain but somehow so empowered.
i will definately be watching this thread and look forward to when basic versions will be available. i think it's a good idea to let someone else cast them so you can concentrate on special editions only!

looking at your avatar, and from other times when i saw it, is that your drawing? the character in it would make such a lovely facemold too :3

    6. Thank you for awesome compliments :D I'm glad you like her.

My avatar is "Rootmeg in the Mesquite" by Brian Froud. I agree it would make an awesome doll, but I definitely didn't draw it ~ I don't draw well at all.. haven't got the patience for it.

    7. ooh it's Froud, i have one of his books somewhere, have to go look for it!

your work is really inspiring and makes me want to sculpt something again. i'm not sure if i would have the patience to make a posable doll though, i am the kind of person who starts things and then never finishes them ;)

    8. She's absolutely beautiful. You did such a good job on her. o_o

    9. I love your work. She's going to be really interesting, a lot of varied potential there. Oddly enough while Iw as thinking about learning things from making different regional and historical styles of dress, I was thinking it'd be fun to do some of the West African batik wraps, with lots of beading, and this is the doll who could carry it off proudly.

    10. oh my! howd you do all those joints! now i feel sad for my future dolls, hehe

    11. I look forward to updates!!:)

    12. She so pretty, and her lines are so smooth! You've done an amazing job so far, I can't wait to see her finished!

    13. wow, she looks fantastic!

    14. Some serious attitude on this gal. Particularly liked the poses in the focus on her high heels. She has true presence.

    15. Thank you for all the lovely and encouraging comments!! :D

Molds are finished; here are some pictures of the first cast.

Still need to tweak the stringing and internal workings. This is not a doll for beginners!! She'll take practice to pose, and will definitely require sueding. These parts are all "junk" ~ first pours with grit in them. I have cleaned off the gatemarks, but not sanded the seams. They are not very big She's lovely and smooth, all the priming really paid off. Some small issues that I will clean up in the grey cast that will be the Enchantment Doll master. She's wearing 12mm eyes, but I like her better with 10mm. She's a creamy white resin ~ can't wait to see her with a faceup....

I got her to stand unaided on her high heeled feet at one point. Gonna try cable ties instead of coated wire to hold the knee joints in place. Taking the rest of today and tomorrow off, I'm going to have beer now, I think.

    16. Wow, Twigling, i can only say again and again as everyone: she's gorgeous! And i'm a big white-skin fan, so ...^^ I just adore how you made the double joints in her legs, they can't even be seen when she stands! O_O And I've searched through the bjd companies, i looked for a realistic body with visible muscles-where muscles should be seen naturally...I know this flexi perennial Domuya body, but i just soo not like it ;.; Its just too, too skinny XD But i think, Ylisande is absolute perfect from this viewpoint!...I so like her ^^ And also, its a big thing for me, to finish such a big project...i usually start to make something and then usually lost interest in it and start another one...^^'
So, congrats to you, she's just lovely ^^ <3

    17. Oh my gawd! Is she standing unsupported in high-heel feet WITHOUT SHOES?!?!?!!!! That's incredible!

    18. Kudos to you girl! She really is lovely! Two things that I'm really picky about on these dolls are the boobs and the lower leg/ankle area..and she's perfect in both those areas.
I'm making molds tomorrow...wish me luck!

    19. WOW! She looks fantastic in resin! You've worked so hard on her, and it shows-she's absolutely gorgeous. :) Even if you say she's a little tricky to pose, all the photos look great. I can't even magine trying to balance her on the high-heel feet. I can't balance my new doll on flat feet.

When you get the face-up, I'd love to see it too. Enjoy that break (and the beer)! You've earned it!

    20. She's so lovely! I really love her breasts. :D
Will you be taking commissions in the future,
or was this simply a project you wanted to try?

    21. it indeed very lovely, if i have more time on my hand, i want to make one for myself, but right now, i'm swamp.

    22. She is so gorgeous! I just love her body. Her face is unique and amazing as well. What a wonderful artist you are!

    23. Gawd, she is gorgious! <3
      I love the ankle joint you made so much that I am actually planning on using that type of joint on my own doll! How exactly do you connect the elastic to the feet? I just can't seem to figure it out...^^;

Oh yeah, will you be casting her in a mocha color? I would love to see her in a darker skin-tone! :aheartbea

    24. Thank you ~ yes I looked at the Domuya's Perennial body and felt it was too skinny, and I wanted to make a girl with some meat on. I think that first cast has become beauty green now because of the resin I used;) There are still some things that I am fixing for the professional cast dolls, things that I found that weren't quite working. I'm glad you like her XD

Yes she is!! I was floored myself.. she didn't want to do it when I tried to repeat it in front of my b/f, though.

Thank you, I am pretty particular about those areas too, especially the ankles, they have to look right and function well also.. it's a very important point for stability. I hope you're doing well with the molding of Tatine!!!

Thanks!! Yes I will be taking occasional commissions for custom cast orders in the future, as well as doing OOAKs to auction off.

Yeah I find you need to have a space to work, and the time to sit and do it every day. I don't have a "real" job, I work from home making dolls, and I happen to have a partner who supports me both in spirit and financially.

Thank you :D So excited to hear from people who like what they see, I hope she will become part of many peoples doll families, and I am so looking forward to see what everyone does with theirs in terms of styling and faceups!! :fangirl:

There is a cup-hook screwed into the foot socket, that the elastic hooks onto. Same as Elfdoll feet used to be (except their ankles are a separate piece) also Unon and Unoss have the same type of joint.

I am definitely casting her in some darker skintones!! I have promised to do one in the next few weeks so we'll see how that turns out. I also want to try a very dark brown:D

    25. She is really, *really* stunning! Her face looks so gentle and serene. I definitely agree with everyone who has said that she would look fabulous in a darker/tanned resin. There aren't enough african-looking sculpts out there.
      Love your girl!

    26. Since this sculpt is finished, I really should lock this thread... I have discussed Ylisande with the other Moderators and Admins and they have concluded that she would be on topic for DoA, so once she is released you will be able to post pictures and arrange trades on this forum. In the meantime someone might want to start a discussion thread in Larger Dolls?

Thanks again for all the lovely comments and encouragement ~ I really appreciate every single one :fangirl:
