I am expecting an OLD FCS white resin boy who has gone quite yellow. I'd love to see your yellowed dolls in different color wigs. All posts MOST welcome! Thanks
Here's my banana boy, Shirabe. He's a yellowed NS Iplehouse Barron from around '09. Eventually he'll have a grey wig, but he's been rocking this white fur one for a while. Kitty ears are because he's cute with them. xD
Cap'n, your guy really does rock those ears. I adore him in white, but I can see grey on him, too. Thanks!
I have two VERY yellowed old Alice in Labyrinth heads and dark red or pure red wigs makes the yellowing look much worse! Blonde looks pretty good on either of them but I love brunettes, so I have a medium neutral brown wig on one and an auburn-brown wig on the other Oops forgot to link pictures: AiL Alice AiL Chloe Somehow the neutral brown wig on the AiL Alice "fixed" the colorbalance issues on my iphone camera so it makes her look not-yellow in some pics, but believe me she's darker than the 10+ year old Volks body she's on
Such beautiful dolls. But compared to my jaundiced daffodil, they only look a bit sallow. I do like the brown wig look very much. It may be the idea worth running up the budget. Thanks
My yellowed Aurora Elf Sooah is a nice ivory color and she makes an excellent blonde. I think the eyes really make yellowed dolls too c:
ABSOLUTELY gorgeous! But still not yellow enough. Here is my darling boy, so you can see what I'm shooting for.
I would definitely stay in the natural/neutral zone for hair on him. Browns, blondes, whites. I would go to match his eyebrows. That will help balance him out c: He looks adorable by the way! Congrats!
I think the lighting of the photos makes a big difference in how yellow a doll appears so some of the previous dolls may be much yellower than you realize. My most yellowed doll is my 12 year old delf Soony. The picture doesn't look too bad because of the bright lighting where it was taken but she's essentially the color of a banana in real life. You can get a better idea of how yellow she actually is by taking a look at this comparison: http://strawberryreverie.com/shoots/comparisons.jpg
Frozen Sunset, thank you so much He is the head I would FCS if I ever got the chance to FCS again. I felt so happy to find him Malvinas, you make a very good point. I have several dolls from 2002, but they are a lovely, ivory, shade, like the dolls above. I'm fully prepared for this incoming boy to be a lemon yellow, but it really does depend on the photos. I think he must have lived on a sun porch for most of his life.
Seconding lighting as something that affects a huge amount. 4 out of 6 of my NS dolls are very yellow, but it doesn't show much in images since I make sure to take photos in natural light whenever possible. Wig-wise, I've really liked the blondes and reds, but in general any "warm" shades should work. "Cool" tones feel like they bring out the yellow in a way that warm ones don't.
Absolutely, Ronnie92. The boy arrived and he is a blonde. And he is not such a banana as his Mandarake photos implied. I adore the socks off him. Thanks to everyone for all the wonderful advice and help
Seconding no cool colors. I avoid blues and purples for my old dolls. I bought them once for a yellowed doll and they did not stay in my house very long. I don't mind browns, blondes, whites, or pinks.
Adding some of my yellowed white skin dolls for reference! First up is Gabby who's a white skin Delf and his usual wig is a pale lilac. I think his faceup being more pink helps it look okay together with the pale lilac wig. I used to have him with a dark chocolate brown wig as well. His body has yellowed more and if not for his faceup his skintone may not work super well with the wig. The other white skin doll I have that is yellowed is my Unoa, Pebbles. She's the right most girl in the photo below, and she has a pale green wig. The photo below is from my phone and only resized so it might be a bit better to see the yellowing. The other two dolls on the left are not as old as the two on the right, but in putting them together I just realise I might have a thing for pale wig colours on my white skin dolls??
Leona is 12 years old so she's definitely yellowed from her original "Cream White" which I understand to be an ivory color. I've been warned to avoid white wigs and cool colors, but I think she looks great. Maybe the color issues have more to do with the tone of the yellowing if there's such a thing? The color is pretty true to life in this one after correction (levels). Forgive the potato phone quality. I've got a couple pictures of her with ill-fitting wigs while I was waiting for the white one. Some kind of mahogany brown, and red. These are straight from the camera but the second one is lit with a warm light, which is why she looks more pink. It's not very useful. Spoiler These are straight with no balancing, just cropped. Spoiler
I've found warm-toned wigs and faceups flattering for my older dolls (I have a lot of old Volks) Pictured: Sylvie (2003), Diligent Scholar Williams (WS, 2023), Cyndy (2004)
