Xiaomi Mi Monst Vinyl (?) Dolls

Dec 10, 2021

    1. I came across these dolls by Chinese phone/electronics company Xiaomi. I am interested in the 30cm hyper-stylized "baby" dolls. It seems they have released two waves of those so far, as well as mini-sized ones that are also stylized but leaning more towards "traditional" stylized-mini-BJD standards. I haven't been able to find a lot of info on them, but I am hoping that because they are a legit electronics company, that their dolls are also legitimately their own works, sculpts, designs, etct., and not copies from other BJD creators.

If anyone has any reliable information on these dolls, I would be forever grateful. It seems the only store to get them outside of China is on Aliexrpess (their own shop, I'm assuming, it's a pain in gut not being bilingual!). I found their US-based electronics store, but I don't believe they would know about their doll line. I did write to them, but I am not holding my breath that they'll be much help. Thanks for any help, in advance.

Edit: I just learned that Luts has an official dealer status for their other less hyper-stylized Monst dolls that are also 30cm, but I am looking specifically for the 30cm one with the giant heads, and hyper-stylized sculpt, with sculpted eyes. I don't see them on Luts, and I would rather not import from Korea right now. If anyone knows of a legit dealer selling the other dolls, not the ones that Luts has, I would still appreciate the info. Unless, the others are not legitimate dolls by them, and someone is just using the Xiaomi "Mi" logo, or Monst name to produce illegal copies of someone else's work. Then, I am okay without any more info. Thanks for any help, if the stylized dolls are legit, more info is still welcomed! (:

    2. I kind of doubt they have anything to do with the electronics company Xiaomi … :sweat And I’m thinking they just stole the names Xiaomi and Monst… The Monst dolls on Luts probably aren’t connected to the more stylized dolls you’re interested in.

Anyway, had a look at Aliexpress and I was sure I’d seen some of the more stylized dolls somewhere before and finally found it!

Some of the stylized dolls appear to be copies of Bobee doll by Pipitom which are available on both Hobby Search and AmiAmi. Hobby Search and AmiAmi are both legit and well-established sites for figures and off-topic dolls, so I trust that Bobee doll is the legit one.

    3. Thank you so much for your help namika. That's how I actually stumbled across the stylized dolls I was asking about, because I was interested in the Pipitom ones, but would rather purchase a customizable one or a boy one and Google graciously. sent me to Aliexpress pages I have seen the stylized ones with the same logo stamped on the back of the head as the logo that appears on the photos that Luts has, of the Xiaomi Monst dolls they sell. Which could be fake logos stamped on the heads, I have no clue -- I'm referring to the very stylized ones, that I am interested in. I also have no clue if they are the same electronics company as the ones that make phones, but they are called Xiaomi even by Luts' in their description of the Monst dolls they do sell. I am a bit confused due to those things, people on Aliexpress sold the blank head at one point, inside boxes with the fox "Monst" logo, like the one Luts has on their photos of the Monst dolls. So, yes, I wish I knew for sure those stylized dolls are not by them, I would feel like giving up on them or trying harder to find a reliable dealer but so far I haven't found anything conclusive. Other than Xiaomi being the creator of Monst, and a few stylized dolls being listed as theirs, including the Pipitom ones, which I know are not by them. Thanks again, I appreciate the help! (:

    4. Hmm... I looked at the Luts' listings and I've found that the 'Xiaomi Youpin' Luts mentions is actually a shopping platform owned by Xiaomi, the electronics company.

Then I found what appears to be an official Chinese site for the Monst dolls Luts is a dealer for, and they have a link to their shop on Xiaomi Youpin. So I guess that's Monst's link to Xiaomi - they have an official shop on Xiaomi's shopping platform. Or had a shop as their Xiaomi Youpin shop no longer seems to exist.

Edit: And I feel that's what Luts means by 'MONST BJD is the registered product with Xiaomi 有品(YOUPIN)'. That Monst is registered on the shopping platform Xiaomi Youpin, and not that Xiaomi Youpin owns Monst.

    5. Than you for all the New info once again, namika. I tried searching for them on Taobao, but all I got was electronic items. The more confusing part now, is all the packaging for the giant-headed dolls, have the same wording and phrased the website you linked to has. Which could mean nothing, but the counterfeiters trying too hard, or that they are actually legit Monts dolls. Regardless, there seems to be a link there to a Taobao shop, so I'll give that a try, when I am not on my order than dust phone, I don't care to replace. DX Thanks for all the help, once again.

    6. Try searching for 'Monst 小可乐'. That's their full name according to the Weibo for Monst. I was able to find some listings on Bhiner using that.

    7. Lets see if my dumb phone doesn't eat words as I type, again...

Thanks so much! I just watched a video from someone who got one of the giant-headed dolls from their official Taobao, and linked to the same official link you shared before. So, I'm getting ahead of myself and guessing they are legit Monst dolls. I will update if I learn anything new. Now, I have to get going to work, after a fifteen minute nap. T_T;; Thank you for the millionth time, namika!

EDIT: I was able to verify that the giant-headed dolls I am interested in are indeed by Monst, from their posts on their weibo which namika linked to above. I searched for the terms namika suggested, on Superbuy and Bhiner, but I wasn't able to find any shops, let alone Monst official Taobao. The link they have on their official website, also linked some posts above, doesn't seem to work. I have seen some shops disabling their Taobao shops when they don't have anything to sell, I don't know if that's the case with Monst right now, I kind of wish it was easier to find their official shop. I am a bit hesitant to get anything from Aliexpress, I know some Chinese legitimate companies have shops on there, like Pop Mart, but I didn't see any for Monst, and it's hard sometimes to communicate exactly what I am asking, to the sellers. I think legitimate, authentic, and original get used a bit more broadly there, or not used at all, to describe toys. IF anyone has any links to official dealers, preferably not from places with limited shipping options right now, I would appreciate it if they shared those on here. Thanks again to namika, and anyone else who wants to help. (:

2EDIT: After searching through their weibo for hours on end, and typing terms like an idiot, I finally was able to reach their official Taobao by typing "胶皮娃娃 monst," the Chinese characters apparently mean rubber doll, and that was enough to get Google to find their shop for me. If anyone else is interested, just copy paste that on Google search bar, and that should get them to show their Taobao official shop in the first few links. I tried using all terms I could think of, on a few shopping agents, as I mentioned above including that one, but nothing worked for me. Thankfully, Google didn't fail me this time!

    8. I'm double posting to add that I got my package from Monst official Taobao shop. I have seen a few shops on Aliexpress carrying the bodies and heads packaged in these same packages, so it's probable that some do carry legit Monst dolls. I would just rather not risk it, it is also not less expensive to shop from there for these. At least from what I saw, so I rather be a hundred percent certain I am purchasing their stuff, and not pay more for fakes. When the legit ones are at the same price, or less than the ones on other places other than their Taobao.

    9. I have a monst doll! I came across them on instagram and from my understanding AliExpress actually is one of the easier places to buy them outside China and you can expect them to be legit. (Same with Bobee Pipitom, but I've noticed on AE they sell those as "monst" dolls or just generally "rubber baby", which I think is because monst has more name recognition?) Either way, the official Taobao store is probably the best place!

Anyway, I have both of these dolls and I just think they're really adorable :') So, doll photo tax!

    10. Thank you for sharing your Monst Savage Baby doll, Nuwandalice.

After f-ing-up my head sculpt, for not doing a mock up first in Photoshop as I always do (but this time failed to do, like the idiot that I am), I have finally customized mine. I am pretty happy with it, but upset that I didn't do a mock up first, due to the default sculpted eyes being too tall and droopy for my taste -- I should have known, I wasn't going to love it (but I suck!). I had to rebuild the eye-shape with my older than time Aves Apoxie sculpt, which is now clumping before I'm done mixing and I'm not super happy with how not-so-smooth I was able to get the mod, but it will have to do. I might get another head to try again, and mod this one to be a closed eyed version of the same character. He is going to be my baby version of Kadaj (FFVII: AC). I don't own eyes that fit him yet -- that's going to be another challenge in and of itself. The artists I got those he's wearing in the photo, no longer makes full round eyes nor takes commissions, so it's going to be fun looking/figuring out what to do about eyes for him. (:

    11. Hello! I came across Monst dolls recently and wanted to ask if buying them on aliexpress is legit? The packeting and the dolls name Monst seem legit on aliexpress site so i suppose they are not recast?

    12. I personally can't say if the ones sold on Ali are legit Monst products, as I haven't purchased any from there. The above commenter suggests they might be. It's not cheaper to get them from there (in my experience, compared to getting them from their Taobao store, if we don't consider shipping costs).

Probably doesn't help, but maybe this will keep this thread visible for someone that does know for certain, to reply. (:

    13. Would you please share the taobao shop link? :D i want to be sure i get the legit one

    14. I have been having issues posting links on here lately, but I am not sure if they are only the ones that go to imgur, or just to any other address on the internet. In the past, it doesn't really help depending on the browser, if you link to a Taobao shop. However, I will use a spoiler to see if that works. I was able to post photos using that trick yesterday, although, once again I don't know if that's just images that I can't link to. I hope it works for you! (:

Edit: I added the search to Monst Savage Baby on Taobao, instead of their official store before. My bookmarks need to be reorganized soon! I have fixed the link now, to their official Taobao store. I hope it works; it seems to work for me so far.
