40–49cm Dolls Xagadoll-Mini Lucas 2.0

Oct 10, 2024

    1. My third doll has arrived.

      I ordered the Mini Lucas 2.0 with their 47cm star boy body, with faceup, normal skin, from Xagadoll in June 2024. He arrived on October 7.

      I originally ordered him to shell a character. One of the reasons I chose this sculpt was because of the height -- his companion (who has not arrived yet) is also a 1/4 body, and I wanted them to have a height difference but still be in the same scale. I now have concerns that I have chosen the wrong shell, but I'll get into that later.

      The box was in good condition and well wrapped. There were several layers of paper, plastic, bubble wrap, and cardboard.

      The doll's box itself is a very fun color! The pop of brightness surprised me and made me happy, I've never seen a Xagadoll box before.

      Everything inside was well wrapped, too. Several layers of bubble wrap and some foam too, well secured with tape. The contents of the box included the doll's body, his head (eyes already installed), COA, and a small bag with a little flexible loop inside, which I believe is for padding between the neck of the body and the head.

      I unwrapped the body first. It was in good condition. There were a few things I loved about it and a few things I'm iffy about. I'll start with the negative so we can end on a good note!

      First, I think there were a few seams that weren't quite sanded down all the way. Not a huge issue to me as long as they aren't cracks.

      Second -- I knew this going in, but I HATE the shoulder blades on this body. I don't know why Xagadoll chose to sculpt them the way they did, but they are odd and mildly unpleasant to look at, imo. I didn't picture them here myself. Because I knew about this going in, I'm not too bothered by it. The main character outfit I have planned has those covered up.

      His legs are SO LONG. I'm not sure why I didn't seem to get a good look at the proportions in the doll's promo pictures. It's not the end of the world, but it does bother me a little bit!

      Finally, there's no waist/hip seam. Again, something I probably should have confirmed before buying (maybe I did and just forgot?) but the lack of this seam is a pet peeve to me. It limits the kind of poseability that I enjoy.

      Now on to the positive:
      Xagadoll has created a very clever system on the internal joints that I have yet to see in a doll (maybe others do this as well, as this is only my third doll): there are progressive notches on most of the inner joints that let things click into place and hold a pose more easily. The notches are also spaced quite closely together, so it's not like you only get three options with staying power -- more like 10! It's possible that I could get annoyed if I can't get a pose exactly right due to the notches, but as of right now I have faith in the very small amount of space between each setting.

      Discussion of the NSFW bits under the spoiler (no pictures)
      I didn't know what the crotch area would be like on this doll, and now I know. It's different from my first male doll, which is a 1/4 Migidoll, and has a pretty simple little dick. I was surprised to learn that this Xagadoll not only had a dick, but also balls. Yep. And then, as I was handling the body, my thumb landed in the wrong place and I accidentally discovered that the bits were magnetically attached. Was not expecting it at all. Gave me a good laugh.

      The bits are currently removed and stored and will probably stay there unless I have a good reason to put them back on. The magnet isn't ridiculously strong and I don't want them to get lost in the house while I'm crafting clothes for this guy.

      Now on to the head.

      [IMG]

      I'm worried that the head is too small for the body. I knew that the head required a 1/6 sized wig instead of a 1/4 one, but I don't think I understood the reality of that until I saw the whole thing put together.

      I am hopeful that getting the proper wig for him will help the head look less small. But my biggest worry is about his companion. She will have a typical 1/4 size head, and I'm worried that they won't actually look good together in the way I wanted them too.

      Also - the eyes that Xagadoll included with the head were WAY TOO BIG! I'm talking HUGE! Both the eye itself and the iris/pupil were ginormous. I ended up swapping them out with the eyes of my 1/6 doll, because I'm planning on replacing her eyes soon anyways (now she temporarily has too big eyes in her head, but it's not quite as bad). And her eyes, while much better for the Xagadoll, still might not be quite small enough.

      That's okay though, because I was probably going to have to order custom eyes for the Xagadoll character anyways, so I'll just make sure to get them the right size.

      As far as the faceup itself... I'm mostly satisfied with it. The mouth is my least favorite part. I think that the lip color isn't quite dark enough for my taste, especially with how they've done the lip lines. And I want him to be slightly more smirky, at least on one side of the mouth. But those are things that I could possibly fix someday.

      OVERALL THOUGHTS

      I'm a little concerned about the longevity of my relationship with this doll. I think the make or break point will be when my fourth doll arrives, and I can check out their chemistry.

      I think that with time my feelings about this doll could definitely improve, but right now I'm a little crushed that he isn't perfect from the start. It's hard not to compare to my last doll that arrived, because she WAS perfect. The feelings are very much not the same.

      Wish me luck! I'll hopefully be posting more about this doll as I get him some clothes, a wig, and some proper eyes.

      Thanks for looking :)

    2. Proportions can be tough when wanting dolls to go together. And the more realistic head proportions aren't my favorite I've learned after ordering a couple that looked great in photos but weren't right for me irl.
      Like you say, see how it goes when the other doll arrives. I've slowly put together a family with children of different ages from different companies through careful consideration of facial details & proportions. They aren't all exactly the same but the aesthetic is pleasing to me so I totally get needing to see how your dolls work out together.
      For one thing, this dilemma has taught me to notice in real life people do have different size heads & faces. ;}
      And, in the future, of your not happy with the head but like the body you do have the option to start watching for just a head to fit the body. ;)

      Good luck!

    3. As someone who considered this doll specifically because of the smaller than usual head size -- thank you so much for posting here! He is beautiful, but I am totally with you in the headsize dilemma...most of my dolls are not with me yet and I tried to look at them next to each other via bad photoshop just to get an idea of what it'd be like. But I think I will also have to wait until they are all here to see whether they mesh well or not. Fingers crossed for both of us!

      If you don't mind, would you consider sharing the pictures of him and the one you are still waiting on once they arive as well? I am very curious to see a "smaller" head MSD next to a more traditional one ;U;

      In any case, I wish you good luck with him & your doll family plans! I really hope it works out with the full wig oufit and everything cx

    4. Sure thing! I made a post for you in the photo reference forum section. Thanks, good luck to you too <3
