Jointing wrist/ankle joint help

Sep 2, 2006

Okay, first off, I'm pretty sure I've got this right. This is how Luts and a lot of other dolls have their wrists and ankles, right? With a metal s-hook? Now, I'm trying to figure out the best way to put an s-hook on there. Is using a braizing torch to heat up a piece of steel rod going to be the best bet for something that won't loosten and loosten and snap? Would bailing wire be strong enough? It's bendy, but it takes a lot to bend. I still think I should probably heat it to get that small a curve without risking breaking the resin... Resin does stand up to heat all right, doesn't it? It's not like I'm going to be putting the torch on the resin, but the steel would be pretty hot when I'm bending it around that shaft... Anyway, if anyone has done this type of joint before, I would really appreciate some pointers.

    2. Really resin doesn't stand up to heat very well, it actually gets soft and sometimes discolored. I think the best bet would be just to use a regular 'ol S-hook. Just hook it around the said bar, I would say that there's no use in over complicating things when it doesn't improve function of the doll itself. I hope this helps! I am no expert but that is my opinion any way.

    3. Hound doesn't use hooks in the wrists at all, if I reall.the elastic is threaded through the joint itself. Can't remember, don't have it here with me at the moment..

    4. DoD uses a piece of string to tie the elastic to the joint instead of a S-hook. It works pretty well, makes for more bendable joints (at least in the guardians).

I did make my own S-hooks for my doll out of a piece of wire. It's not too hard, and if you use thin enough wire, it don't have to be heated to bend it, and at the same time won't bend back for nothing (at least as long as you're making a doll not bigger than a mini)
