Would taking a photo under Blacklight damage the doll?

Jan 11, 2012

    1. I personally love the look of Blacklight, and the glow it gives. I've practiced, and can get still-life photos exposed with said light by using a long shutter speed and a tripod. My question though, will the blacklight damage the doll? I mean will it cause yellowing, or fading or anything like that?

    2. I can has bump?

    3. Warning: Scientific content, the short answer is found at the bottom.

Here we have a light spectrum, ROYGBIV represents the visible light spectrum (this is not a full spectrum) After visible light spectrum we have all the stuff we can't see (I only went over UV lights since that's all we're talking about) and defined them below my picture

      ROYGBIV-----UVA-----UVB-----UVC-----
      (etc.)

UVA: Short waves, closest to visible light spectrum LEAST harmful. This is what "black light" falls under. It's not terribly harmful. This is "good light".

UVB: Medium waves, medium distance from the visible light spectrum out of the UV lights. These are the ones that give us sunburn and skin damage. These are harmful and have been blamed for cancer. These are bad for your doll too.

UVC: Long waves, the longest UV waves and furthest from the visible light spectrum. Natural ones are killed in the atmosphere. These lights (artificially made ones) are used to kill pathogens, mold, viruses etc. These are bad if you were to go lay under them/put your doll under them. But unless you work in killing food/air/water contamination and decide to take your doll with you (idk why, I know people bring their dolls to work xD) you'll be cool from these waves.

Also I believe the government has all of their mail go through this light wave (to save workers from biological attack) so if you work for the government and decided to have your doll delivered to the CIA/FBI or something like that your doll probably got a healthy dosage of this light. But that's completely hypothetical.

SO IN SHORT...your doll is safe....photograph away
