I was taking some pictures of this project to show a friend and thought I might post them here as well? I use my own jointing method since I do direct sculpt most of the time and the clay can be iffy and a bit more fussy then resin. She's 13" tall, Cernit clay. I used Tibetan Lamb for the hair. She has cat's eyes, but the heavy lids make it hard to tell in the pictures, I figure it will be a nice surprise for anyone who get a good look at her in real life. A lot of my dolls are made for a shop in NYC, and she will end up there as well I suppose. I'm working on her costume now and thinking of making her some baby dragons or even a horse for the front window display. Usually I do sculpt a more womanly body, but for the dress design small breasts were the way to go... http://members.aol.com/angeldevildolls/catseye.jpg
Glad you like it! I was thrilled to find a place that sold pre-dyed Tibetan Lamb in fantasy colors. I used to dye it myself in the sink, what a chore! Hmm, she does look a little fierce, doesn't she?
I was able to get your second image tag to work ^_^ (Some sites, like PhotoBucket and, apparently, AOL, are tricksy and don't especially like DoA for some reason.) I just love her -- Catseye is a wonderful name, I think -- and I can't wait to see her all together with her dress and pets! -- A
THANK YOU for all your help, and yes, I'll post the dress when I finish it, hopefully today, but I'm going to make cookies first. Hungry! I have to say, I've been a little burned out on dolls the last few moths, this project really got me going again. Nothing like a nice sculpt to get a girl back on track.
Finished doll with costume hand sewn by me (even though I own two sewing machines I do it by hand :P). The crown and butterfly clasp are made by the fabulous Cathy Cara (http://www.cathycara.com/). The file managment thing isn't working for me (again). I'm really sorry. You can view the pic here:
Fixed!! ^_^ I think you're trying to use HTML (<img src=") tags, and the forum only uses vBCode -- to post a photo, do this: [ img ]http://www.angeldevilland.com/catseyefull.jpg[ /img ] but without the spaces in the brackets. Please let me know if this works -- it's how I fixed the photo. You may have to go in and edit your post if it doesn't show up the first time -- there were [ url ] tags around it when I went in to edit. Hope this helps -- and, as you know, I think the dress is adorable! -- A
The dress is a good example of my freeform approach... I can't be bothered with a pattern so I just cut the shapes out of fabric and start making darts and pleats. I can never make the same outfit twice. It also prevents me from sewing people clothes. Thanks for your help with the code, my browser hates this forum for some reason. Must switch again I guess. Oh, waiting to hear back from the other two artists on my team, but it looks like I'll be doing a resin L.E. Doll later this year with any luck... sorry, with my ball joint system, not the more refined ABJ type. Maybe next time if all goes well. Off to sew Catseye some pets now.
Thank you so much Silver Wing. I'm really happy with her hair. Actually, her lips came out well also. It will be good if I get my face painting techniques really consistent for the next move into resin later this year.
