Wearables Wolf/ Werewolf Headdress

Jun 27, 2014

    1. I've always been fascinated with native cultures, specially where they cross over or influence and inspire fantasy. I'd love to know everyone's opinion on this white wolf headdress. any constructive critique will be appreciate

    2. Wow!!! This is awesome!! You have an amazing talent MaryamDN :love

    3. That's really cool! I'd love to make something similar for a couple of my future dolls.

    4. Wow! Seriously impressed with that. How did you make it?

    5. Very impressive! I can't see one thing on it that you would need to improve on, it's perfect! :)

    6. wonderful! This is just incredible :) Thanks for sharing!

    7. i love it! ♥ you did a fabulous job. thank you for sharing it.

    8. Quick and Insane: Thank you, i highly recommend you try. i had lots of fun making it! i'd love to see yours if you ever make one. i'm making one in brown now, and would totally love to find time to make a couple different animals.

MadamMauMau: :) thank you, it's 95% hot glue and plush, just wrap your doll head in a few layers of paper towel to avoid damaging it...other than that it's really just a matter of molding the plush onto your form with hot glue. I'm planing on making a clay or wooden figure in the approximate shape of a wolf head so i wont have to constantly use my doll's heads...i'm worried about the heat from the hot

Absynthe, TheCraftyLlama, ellipses, Cat: you're all too kind, thank you :) i'm glad you like it.

    9. it's just excellent! the congratulation!)))

    10. Amazing. My husband was very impressed at the workmanship.

    11. Wow that's impressive :ablink:
I especially love the details with the teeth and nose

    12. What a great way to follow your interest in native cultures. I love the idea as much as the wolf head itself. The detail in the mouth area is amazing. Are you going to make Indian inspired clothing to go with it? It's impressive!

    13. Garlan,, Zoo Lady, rebelsheepy: thank you for your compliments.

Pony: thank you, i haven't really decided whether i'll make outfits too or not yet, i'm more interested in accessories right now, but who knows ^.^

    14. I'll make a couple eventually...I need to save up for the two dolls in question first! Though playing around and trying to make some for my current dolls couldn't hurt.

    15. that's true, plush can get really pricey, this whole hobby is expensive >.< . I'm working on one right now with genuine mink fur and genuine fox teeth and its been so much fun but jeez the price !!!!! and i'm the kind of person who loves to use real fur and real teeth/ skulls/ antlers/ etc... i find it ironic how people tend to love the finished product but think it's creepy when i tell them i'm working on a project that makes use of real animal products <.< anyyyyway, they're fun to make on small scale too if you have plush scraps lying around. if you use hot glue to stick one piece of plush on another it's seamless from the plushy side!

    16. I really like this, it feels very primal to me. It exudes power, and I can see how it could tie over into fantasy :)

    17. It is rather expensive. But real fur and teeth? Wow! I've got a fox skull lying around here somewhere...you've given me an idea...

    18. oh wow, it looks fantastic. well done.

    19. It looks absolutely amazing! So realistic with the mouth and teeth.

    20. It looks amazing! Excellent workmanship!

    21. That is beautiful :D fantastic workmanship!

    22. This is wonderful craftsmanship, and I love the idea of using hot glue to avoid seams! The painting is really excellent- it doesn't look overly mechanical or methodical. A real wolf wouldn't have had a perfectly straight muzzle or identical eye markings. And the eyes, nose, and particularly the ears are splendid. I think I love the ears because of their shape- it's amazing that you started with just a skull.

Also, just for the record, recycling the remains of unfortunate animals isn't creepy. :pout: It's neat to see them go to such a fabulous work of art! In a small way, it's almost like appreciating their beauty all over again.

    23. this is lovely!! i think the fur needs more shading and the eyes could do with a lower placement. if you're not sure how you can shade fur, you dry brush paint into it apparently! :) i think that'd help a lot to give the fur more tone.

    24. Duuuuude!! That thing rocks!

    25. sorry for the uber late reply...but yeah :) skulls are awesome for art! this is one i started a few months back but haven't got around to finishing yet :/
would love to see yours if you do something BJD related with the skull

    26. you know what i! i agree, i think shading would be a great idea. white fur is very hard to tint without making it jarring. i tried it on a brown one i made and it worked really nicely. i'm making another MSD size one in white now so i might try shading.

just for fun, here's a process pic of the brown one modelled by my dearest Dante:aheartbea

GarblePlz, PinkBear, Bluepita, PChu, Kacha, LuckyDeathStar,
thank you for the complements :) i'm deeply flattered.

Loptr, I agree, using animal parts isn't creepy but you'd be surprised how many people have enough time on their hands to stop and tell you it's cruel and twisted! thanks for the complement.

    27. Wonderful craftsmanship! If you could either pull the headpiece more forward and down or bow the doll's head, we could see the wolf's face better. I thing if its menacing eyes were looking directly at us, it would create an awesome effect.

    28. these are amazing! i love how you include the eyes into the fur cap:) the only thing i would consider doing since your pieces look realistic in the eyes and fur, would be to yellow the teeth just a tad. If you observe wolf or bear teeth, they are stained by the blood of the things they eat. Other than that, keep up the good work and i look forward to seeing more!

    29. thank you :P! the teeth are actually are actually slightly brown/cream, it's my camera, it hates me and chooses to washout a lot of colour, but definitely a good detail to keep in mind :)

    30. Wow! excellent work :D

    31. Thank you for another picture of the eyes! :) And i understand completely about how cameras can wash out the color of some things( my camera likes to do that way too often ).

    32. Very excellent work! My only input would be that to me it has more of a dog shape, wolves lean more towards the sharp edges and long pointed noses. I can see where that would be relatively difficult though working with a round doll head :P I'd love to see what else you spin out!

    33. It looks totally fantastic but in the picture it sort of looks like you can see the raw edges of the fabric around the tassels that hang over the front of the shoulder. It would maybe look more polished if you placed a bead over where the tassel connects to the other beads? I think it looks great though, all the little details in the face are spot on.

    34. that is amazing and beautiful!

    35. This is amazing. Hands down. I absolutely love the fine details on the teeth. Perhaps add a little more yellowing to the fangs to add a more realistic effect?

    36. That is amazing, you're very creative...is it heavy? I mean, does your boy have difficulty balancing in it?...have you made other headresses for him?

    37. It's an incredible job! The best things that really amazes me is how the direction of the fur actually frames really well the doll's face! Good job!!

    38. Wow!!! You are very talented! I absolutely love it! :D

    39. That's amazing! It looks so realistic!

    40. Oh wow! Really, this is just about perfect! It looks very real :) how did you make the nose and teeth?

    41. thanks you to everyone who has commented
here's a white one in a different style. i cant get enough of them!!!

    42. GORGEOUS!!! Grabby hands!!

    43. It is GORGEOUS and PERFECT!! Totally my type of accesories!! I'll try to make one in this holiday (if I found the tools and materials to make it) :(

    44. Those are so beautiful, you're a very talented person. :) May I ask how long they took to make?

    45. thank you Hannard.
if university and life didn't get in my way it's about 2 days worth of work. approximately 15 to 20 hours of work.
as if is, depending on how many i have to make and what other projects i have it takes around 2 months to complete one.

    46. thanks you Kairin

first one ive done with dark eyes :) i really like it!!

    48. I would love one of these or a tutorial on how to make one! I need something like this for my incoming naturepunk/wild child boy. These are seriously amazing!

    49. :( honestly i'd like to tell you that i'll do one, but i have been ridiculously busy with school, life art, everything. i dont foresee a tutorial any time soon :( i dont even remember to take process pictures! i'm slowly loosing my brain.

    50. Its understandable life can be hecktic a lot of the time. I hope things calm down for you though.

      sent through the forests

    51. :hug:thank you
i'll be sure to posts pix if i ever do one though.

    52. OMG this looks crazy good. I wonder what it is made of. It looks really real. If I were to suggest anything, I would say a lower part of the wolf mouth will make it look even more real. Plus, it will make it more stable on the head since you put the doll head inside the mask. Of course this is only my personal opinion. It looks great already!

    53. thanks
it stays on the doll heads pretty well as it is. but synaesthetic i think it would be really cool looking to have the bottom jaw there as well. it has crossed my mind several times but to be honest i'm not really sure how i would make it work without it looking to macabre and too wide open. does that make sense?
i think if it were to look good the bottom jaw would have to come around the dolls jaw just above it's chin and bellow it's upper lip.

    54. wow perfect for doll to be a forest guardian :) amazing work

    55. It's a good style and very well made, although I think the two tail-like things coming over his shoulders take away from the werewolf feel of the headdress. I feel like they make it more shamanistic than werewolf-ish.

    56. :) i agree, but that's really just reliant on the doll's character. they get customised for the doll. My Ira for example is a werewolf, so his is just a plain brown headdress with a long cloak. the two white headdresses with white tails hanging are actually for dolls with Aboriginal/ native American characters, so your interpretation of a shaman works well. I have others with beads and teeth decorations and what not too but for the werewolves, I like to keep them blank.

    57. I can't get over the detail in this piece. The natural look to the teeth is phenomenal.
