A little over 2 months ago I started making this Yo-SD girl. She's still nameless. (I think I will come up with a name soon, as her personality is already starting to show) This is my first attempt of making a BJD, and I'm really liking it so far! I looked very closely at my CustomHouse Yo-SD girl, to see how the joints work, so you can see obvious similarities with Ange Ai And of course I also read lots of tutorials and blogs on the internet, and I just started I'm working with Premier Clay (paperclay). I now have a working torso with joint, and her hip-joints are also working already. The knees also work (well one of them as you can see ) but I will need to test them for stability when she gets feet (and a second lower leg would also be needed :P ) I have lower arms, but I still have to make upper arms, and sockets. I started on one hand, but I might start all over (I'm thinking of a cute hand pose ) Her head is still in progress, working on the ears, and the left eye socket has to be opened further, that's why there's no eye in there on the photo And of course it still needs lots of perfectioning and sanding etc. I started this project just for fun, and see how it works. I do also want to research if I can cast her in resin myself, just for the fun of making and practicing. But first let's first finish her! ^^ The full in progress photo set can be found here:http://www.flickr.com/photos/77422253@N02/sets/72157630912242696/with/7851654484 So this is her so far: Ears and opened eyes by sodabeentjes, on Flickr Testing the joints: Posing by sodabeentjes, on Flickr And I already put an eye in, a wig on and a little shirt I made. Next to my Ange Ai Sara, I think they already look cute together ^^ Saar & my BJD WIP project by sodabeentjes, on Flickr Tips are welcome of course^^ Thanks for watching!
@Higgy: Thank you! Yesterday I found the time and inspiration to work on her again, so a few more in progress pics ^^ I started on the feet: feet in progress by sodabeentjes, on Flickr Finally made her a second lower leg, so she'll have 2 full legs :P lower leg drying by sodabeentjes, on Flickr first attempt of a hand, not finished of course! Still needs lots and lots of sanding, and I don't know if I like it enough for her, I might want to try different hand poses. But, I will defenetily try finish this one, cause an extra pair of hands is actually not bad! ^^ hand in progress by sodabeentjes, on Flickr The parts, still a few missing The parts by sodabeentjes, on Flickr
She is just darling sodabeentjes, Im just drawing the paper diagram for my first attempt at sculpting one. You are so far ahead of me. I am also using premier clay. How do you like the premier ? Im going to start the head tomorrow and Ive never used Premier clay or any paper based clay before. So I really want to know what you think of it. Dolly-Hugs patti
@youstolemysoul: Thank you! ^^ Yes, sculpting hands (and probably the toes of the foot too, haven't started yet on those) is quite challenging. I hope to perfect them with lots of sanding and viling ^^ @Amily: Thanks! ^^ I can't either :P @patriciaLangston: Thanks! I like working with premier clay, I had first attempted with La Formo, but I like Premier better. La Formo sticks better, but Premier is easier to form. (Well, I think so :P ) But details are quite hard, because the clay is kind of mushy. But it's workable! After I finish this project I also want to try La Doll Premix, which is a premix of La doll clay and Premier, supposed to be very strong, and also air drying ^^ Good luck with your own project! Hope to see it on here too! ^^ Dolly-Hugs back
Another update Yes she can finally stand ^^ haha, I apologize for her very scary "coming to get you" look, I'm working on making her eyes symmetrical, and then this happens xD Standing! by sodabeentjes, on Flickr Sitting: Relaxing by sodabeentjes, on Flickr working on the toes: Toes by sodabeentjes, on Flickr I made the shoulder joints, by first cutting out some clay, then adding back a thicker layer, and putting these beads in, to get a perfect round shape ^^ Next time, I'll do this when scultping the wole thing Of course I got the beads out for drying Shoulder joints by sodabeentjes, on Flickr Making the second hand, while perfecting the first one. When the clay is dry, I'll play with the handpose ^^ Hands by sodabeentjes, on Flickr Made the upperarms, I made it on a straw, and put some tape around it, to represent the elbow joint. For the shoulder joint I made a ball inside the shoulderjoint (with some plastic foil between it), put it on top of the arm, made a hole to the straw already inside, and twisted the whole thing a couple of times around in the shoulder joint, so hopefully it wil fit perfectly now ^^ upper arms by sodabeentjes, on Flickr
Thanks! I worked a little more on the face, so she doesn;t have that scary look anymore :') And today I have strung her, and as you can see she's almost complete! I mean that I have all the parts, but mostly the joints need some more perfecting almost complete by sodabeentjes, on Flickr Her face in close-up: Her face by sodabeentjes, on Flickr
Update not so much on the working process. But I have dressed her, and taken some pictures. I love her with this hat: Hat on my nameless WIP girl by sodabeentjes, on Flickr And this wig also looks good on her: Nameless WIP girl by sodabeentjes, on Flickr Nameless WIP girl by sodabeentjes, on Flickr I'm still working on the face (perfecting around the eyes, and maybe the nose?) But I like her look so far, so maybe it wouldn't be smart to change too much. I'm making her second hand, and I'm thinking of replacing her first hand with a peace-hand or a clenching hand. I'm also thinking about names, the name Robin and Molly came into my mind. I really need to work on finshing her, I'm just so busy with other projects (sewing, crocheting, customizing, face-upping, etc) Even though this may be the most exciting one (but also the most difficult one I guess!) I'm hesitating wether I will make her arms double jointed, I like my single jointed girls a lot. But the poseability of double jointeds And the knees also need perfectioning (in the standing part) All in all, I'm already quite happy with her, which makes taking her apart even more difficult xD Afraid I might ruïn her or something :P The headcap doesn't stay on yet, so I have to work on that too, and her neck has to go deeper and better in her head, she can't tilt the head very good yet. And the ring inside also doesn't stay in place very good yet. I really hope to post more progress pictures soon!
