Anthro WIP Full-Body Paint of DollZone Dragon Chaun! (1/?)

Apr 5, 2021

    1. Hello! It's been a long time since I've been on here, with the way COVID has been, I've been mostly focusing on graduating. However, I did make progress on my dragon baby! I started back in Summer of 2020 and have been adding pastels and acrylic on top since.

Photos had to be taken with all flash on so they'd be crisp, unfortunately.

Here was the doll disassembled before the dye bath!

And here it was after the dye bath was finished. I followed the recommended tutorial posted on Den Of Angels, and used iDye Poly Golden Yellow outside. I also used a P100 3M household respirator, which I also found on the forums.

The dyeing turned it VERY yellow, which is what I wanted. A friend told me yellow fades to green "ish" after time, so we shall see what that looks like! I plan on keeping it in it's box for a while since I don't have a proper set-up for it and I don't even have it restrung yet.

After a couple of stages of pastels and acrylic, it started to have a cheeto-like color....which I enjoy. Since I was going for more of a stereotypical goldfish that's more orange. When I was dyeing it I ended up not having a deep enough pot so there were some discolorations/marbling from where the resin hit the bottom. I'm upset I made such an obvious mistake, but I think it will add to the marbled/more natural designs I'm going for.

I'm also using brush on sealant even though it's a little less effective and leaves a more textured seal. This is mostly because I just feel safer using it and don't have proper indoor facilities, and the textured seal actually helps give a "feel" to the scales. (Applying lots of really thin layers)

I plan on doing the face last, when I've gotten the most practice.

I probably won't be able to finish this baby for a while yet, but since my other naga doll came in I wanted to finally post these! If anyone has suggestions or experiences restringing mermaid/tailed dolls, or knows how to restring Dollzone Chaun/Po, I'd love some advice!
