Hello, this is a WIP of Daemon, my first serious try at BJD making. He's made from Premier stone clay. I'm a little stumped on his torso joints at the moment. Any advice would be greatly appreciated. : ) View attachment 382 View attachment 383 View attachment 384
Nice! I like his lips especially. Have you started sculpting the torso yet? How many joints are you planning for the torso? It might be easier for you if you sculpted the whole torso as one, and then cut it up. Here is a thread that might help you: http://www.denofangels.com/joints/showthread.php?5367-Flexible-1-4-girl-body. It shows the joints in a doll's torso being made very roughly at first, but eventually worked into great shape. It just goes to show you that you can be very rough in the initial stages, kind of like sketching in clay. You may already be familiar with this, but Batchix has made a very helpful video tutorial that covers the first stages of doll making. She uses air dry clay. Here is the first video in the series: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Qo2FONBapNU&noredirect=1. The first video covers armature making. She has a very simple, very effective way of creating the cores for her dolls. I say that having tried it myself, and I recommend checking it out. The only thing I would advise would be to use a lot of tape. The armature can warp easily. I hope I could help. Really all you need to know is that you don't need to sweat it. Air dry clay is very forgiving.
Thank you for the links! I actually did sculpt his whole torso as one piece and cut it into three. I became stumped after that on the joints though lol I'm really enjoying working on him- its very soothing I'll shore up my courage and try tackling those torso joints Thankies
