Winter jacket (project on hold)

Apr 24, 2008

    1. EDIT- I'm sorry to say that I've had to put the project on a hold. I'm having some issues at home and probably moving (where to I'm not sure) So I'd like to say I'm sorry and if I do settle and stuff I will come back and send you all the jackets and such. I'm REALLY sorry. This just sort of came up and I wasn't expecting it then again nothing bad ever is expected.

OK here's my deal I've been looking around at winder jacket patterns. Now I'd LOVE to make a few but I have no doll to make measurements with and to check if they fit. (meaning I'm asking if YOU would be willing to do a "toss back and forth" thing with a jacket while I work out the kinks for each winter jacket. If you would I will give you a finished version of the jacket. I ask that you take good notes on how it DOESN'T or does fit -where it is tight, maybe where it is loose- I'm not asking for you to mail me your doll I'm asking to let me mail you doll clothes! once I finish at least three types of jackets I'll open up "shop" I also make loli accessories and those will be in the shop as well. yes, this is so I can earn money for my own doll so any help is REALLY appreciated.)

Now I have looked over the general body measurements for the larger dolls (at least I think they are general and yes I'm willing to work smaller, just not TOO small. if you'd like to measure your dolls and tell me their measurements I would appreciate the help.)

I've moved measurements to my second post.

(on the side question for anyone that knows on ebay the "Angel of Dream" seller aoddolls, anyone know if they are safe to work with? I plan on getting the body from them.)

well I want to make one in about every size. (I've got cute material everywhere and I really love making the larger doll clothes. anything OVER Barbie size ~sorry I can't work smaller I used to but I recently lost sight in one eye doctor says it will come back but for now..... well no sewing little things.) and start selling them, but before I can do that I need to go through that whole trial and error thing. I'll post a drawing of the jacket in a few. ALSO while I'm working I'd like to ask if any of you would be willing help help make sure things fit? I would be willing to mail you the clothes "on good will" to get your feedback. As a tester you would get one free jacket. (My husband wont let me actually buy a doll though *horribly saddened*~he thinks it's a waste of money so the only way I can get one is if I earn enough money to pay bills AND save. So this is the only way I can not only earn that little extra but also express my love for dollfies.)
If anyone is interested go ahead and post I work from home so I am always paying attention to this thread. (I'll update as soon as I get this new scanner working!)

      [EDIT]-
      [IMG]
In case you can't read it here is what I said- "the red is to show where the inside lining shows when the collar is folded down, the purple is the main whatever color or pattern that it is, and the yellow is to show where the border is. Those aren't the colors I'd be using, they are just an example!" .....yeah well that's the gist of what I meant anyhow.... not exact words.

I'm not sure whether to make the back one piece or two. .....XD uhm who likes a seem down the back?

      [[EDIT]]-
----Does anyone have a preference on how long the coat is? I like it knee length. But what is your opinion on that? I've drawn up a pattern (minus arms right now.) from Pheonix's 70cm boy's measurements. (height wise, thank you very much Pheonix, ^^ if you'd like note me and I will mail you a jacket for one of your boys to try. ) I'm just guessing right now on shoulder width. I have the feeling that it might be a little short in the shoulder. I'm going with the seamless back for now (unless someone decided to ask for one with seams) I'm getting camera batteries this evening so when I finish there will be pictures.
edit again- ok, I wont have pictures tonight (I have an excuse for this treason! lol there are 5 stray kittens living under my apartment balcony, I went and spent the money I was going to buy batteries with on kitten food. -yes this is a habit, I look after and feed the stray cats that live near my apt. building- My husband is going to buy batteries before he goes to work :D so I don't spend the money on something else again. *sad eyes* forgive!) there will be pictures tomorrow morning.

Found a place to convert cm to inches incase anyone needs- here

      Thank you~

    2. I would be very interested in Buying a winter jacket, as I live in Canada, and it only makes sense for my dolls to have Jackets. :D I've got two 70 cm boys, so the measurements you have probably wouldn't fit my boys, but even still, eventually if nothing else, I would LOVE to see your designs. :D

    3. I've put up one design (I'd like to start with that to get a feel before going to the more difficult styles. plus I like the feel of this one and it looks funnest out of the ones I've drawn)
unfortunately I can't get my scanner working so it's all tablet drawn right now. (sprained wrist doth protest.... so does the paint program lol ^^; I need to reinstall my photoshop silly me!)
I'm glad you are interested! and wow that is QUITE tall.... silly question but I figure asking and knowing is better than being ignorant. do you perchance know ABOUT how many inches that is? (I'm doing something silly and I'm attempting to get a Lifesized drawing out to tape to my wall so I have the scale around to look at. numbers don't help me too much. I'm to hands on.)

I enjoy the Winter jacket idea, I think they are elegant and I love how regal dollfies look posing in long winter jackets. (Add on that I despise shorts and summer lol)

    4. Asking is definitely good. :D 70 cm seems to be about 27.5 inches. (I'm sitting next to measuring tapes) And the drawing thing is a FANTASTIC idea. :D
BTW, I love your jacket design. :D

    5. .......wicked. (sorry I think I needed a moment to let the size sink in. ...... OMG...... I don't think I've SEEN them that size before.) I have it measured out on the paper. *laughs* I can see already that my original jacket that I made needs..... to be made bigger. Much.
^^ well I'm glad you like it. XD heeeeey since you ARE sitting by a measuring tape would you mind answering a few more measurement questions? don't have to if you don't want to, any ANYONE else around if you are interested I beg of you for the same measurements. (ex- from tip of fingers on one hand to the other what is his arm span? about how "long" is his face/head? neck is about an inch right? torso? leg(I know the legs are longer on the bigger models, and I've heard that a lot of people get pants and the pants are too short)?
......I should REALLY slow down on the coffee I do believe I'm at my fifth cup this morning. Yay for productivity though.

    6. hmmmm anyone have a preference on how long the coat is? I like it knee length. But what is your opinion on that? I've drawn up a pattern (minus arms right now.) from Pheonix's 70cm boy's measurements. (height wise, thank you very much Pheonix, ^^ if you'd like note me and I will mail you a jacket for you to try. ) I'm just guessing right now on shoulder width. I have the feeling that it might be a little short in the shoulder. I'm going with the seamless back for now (unless someone decided to ask for one with seams) I'm getting camera batteries this evening so when I finish there will be pictures.

    7. Such a wonderful idea and i love your design ^^ I havent put much thought into a winter coat since well its just now hitting spring and i just got my girl, but if youd like i can give you measurements for 60cm female(obitsu), i have her normal bust as well as the bigger bust.

    8. Actually that would be great. Once I have measurements I WILL be making other things. I have a spring dress planned. I just need to make some money to get more material and stuff. SO I'm starting with a jacket because that can be used for both sexes. (and both busts would be nice)

    9. That is an awesome design!

If you're looking for other sizes, I have a 61.5 cm tall boy, so in the same type of range as Pheonix', but obviously shorter. And also - knee length! Eee! So delightfully early 1900s Russian Military! I love the idea!

Edit: I'm adding my doll's measurements too, for the most part, because I noticed that your "standard" size are not quite the same as mine - my boy is slightly shorter, slightly thinner, and has longer arms and legs. :sweat

      Height: 61.5 cm - 24.2 inches
      Neck: 9.5 cm - 3.7 inches
      Shoulder Width: 13 cm - 5.1 inches
      Arm Length: 18.5 cm - 7.3 inches
      Chest: 22 cm - 8.7 inches
      Waist: 20 cm - 7.9 inches
Length of Waist to Foot: 36 cm - 14.2 inches
      Hips: 25 cm - 9.8 inches
      Foot Length: 7.5 cm - 3 inches

    10. Knee length it shall BE then. And I would LOVE your boy's measurements.

(lol maybe it's Russian styled because I am married to a Russian and I enjoy a lot of their designs, and I like playing with them. XD I also get to use my husband as a model for a lot of my clothing ideas -yes even dresses- so when I have pattern troubles I make him stand still while I use newspaper to make a pattern. This works really well for the dolls too because his body structure is almost exactly the same.)

    11. lol, awesome! Added his measurements to my last post... cause I'm weird like that.

I need to get myself a model like that... *considers* I normally stick them on my friends. And usually stick them with pins. :sweat But I love the Russian designs - especially the military uniforms and the fifteenth century dresses.... *sighs* Can you tell that I specialize in military and medieval history?

    12. *laughs* I can now. If you like them that much I'll do a little digging and playing around and see if I can make some special designs once I finish these jacket pattern if you would like, I love making uniforms and such anyhow.

    13. Ooh... that would be absolutely awesome. I adore uniforms! Adore them!

Also, I just noticed something, wanted to check - my boy is 61.5 cm with his head. Wasn't sure if you knew that, or not... wanted to just make sure. :D

    14. I'll get her measured either tonight or sometime tomorrow morning (its 8:30pm right now lol) plus covered in glue from doing crafty stuff, so i'll be sure to get them once im all cleaned up ^^

    15. Thank you.

    16. Gah! Sorry, I was at work yesterday, and didn't get home till this morning. These are the official measurements from their site, I've verified them
      Height; 70cm (28inch)
Girth of Neck; 10.3cm (about 4.2inch)
      Girth of Chest : 27.5cm (about 11inch)
Shoulder Width :15.5cm (about 6.2 inch)
      Girth of Waist : 20.5cm (about8.2inch)
The length from shoulder to wrist : 22.5cm (about 8.8 inch)
The length from neck point to waist (back length): 14cm (about 5.5inch)
Girth of Heap : 27cm (about 10.8 inch)
The length from heap to knee : 21cm (about 8.4 inch)
The length from knee to ankle :20cm ( about 8 inch)

    17. Ok heres the measurements for her Normal bust, i havent gotten around to changing the bust (not very easy without a hairdryer to warm her up a bit lol)

      Height: 58.5cm
      Neck: 8cm
      Shoulder Width: 10cm
      Arm Length: 16cm
      Chest:
      top circumference: 24.5cm
      bottom circumference: 20.5cm
      Waist: 15cm
Length of Waist to Foot: 31cm
      Hips: 24cm
      Foot Length: 6cm

    18. ok ^^ thank you both. I've got your measurements down. I'm readjusting the jacket to see if I can make it fit both, I will have a "finished" version pictured and up in a few hours.

    19. Hm, well, would you be willing to do anything in mini size? You mentioned nothing smaller than Barbie size, but minis are quite a bit bigger than that. Just thought I'd double check since you've been getting quite a bit of measurements for bigger dolls, but I actually have a little Russian boy at home who just happens to be mini size and he was wondering if I could send in his measurements to be another one of your 'testing models'?

      Sorry if you mentioned elsewhere that you don't want to do minis and I just overlooked it ^_^;;

    20. If you give me his measurements I can certainly try. I actually think I started at a mini size. ^^; my original stuff was well... much smaller than the other measurements so I have patterns in a smaller size already drawn. It would be a pleasure to see if they would work for your boy.

    21. Oh yay! That's so exciting! :D I'll get to measuring him right now and then I'll post up the numbers. <3

Edit: Here they are <3 They're for a Dream of Doll DOC btw, if that's important.

      Height: 43 cm-17 in.
Shoulder to Foot: 33 cm-13 in.
      Neck girth: 7.5 cm-3 in.
      Shoulder width: 10.5 cm-4.25 in.
Shoulder to Wrist: 12 cm-4.75 in.
      Chest girth: 19 cm-7.5 in.
      Waist girth: 15 cm-6 in.
      Hips girth: 19 cm-7.5 in.
Waist to Foot: 27 cm-10.75 in.
Waist to Knee: 14 cm-5.5 in.
Knee to Foot: 13 cm-5 in

The inches might not be as exact as the cm, but I tried to put them both down for you to make it a little easier. :)

    22. ok a slight problem I've run into. I didn't realize it before because usually I'm following pieces of patterns or I can call my mom for advice (no phone at the moment) well.... I've completely forgotten how to make it generally reversible (which is what I'm aiming for.) I only realized that the lining wasn't acting properly once I finished the first one (I'm also working with the cheapest materials I could grab from my "pile" - I have several large boxes stuffed with materials.-) I have pictures but I seem to have lost the cord SO Stan went out to a friends to see if he could borrow one of theirs. it's going to be a bit of a long night.

I'm going to slow the project down a little. I JUST caught a cold and I realized that I'm falling behind on my actual work and I have a deadline coming up.

I will have jackets for everyone (who wants to participate) ready to be mailed out by next Friday, if you want a jacket please private message me with your mailing address before then.

Edit- also thank you Inkybear I'll start seeing if I can adjust the original pattern for him sometime tonight.

I have a slight question for everyone. I know I plan on opening a store with these jackets but would anyone like the pattern for it? I hate it when I want to make something and I'm low on money and all I can find is "oh hey I'm making this to sell r it ok?" and not a pattern. So if anyone would like, I can toss a pattern up as I work until I open shop- at least.

    23. I would love a pattern. I love sewing, and I love designing, but I'm not always great at drawing up the patterns.

    24. Would you like more patterns than just the jacket? I have a few others. It would just be up to you to get the sizing right.

And I shall try and toss up the pattern as I go along, along with a picture of the finished project. XD How it gets the the finished product I'm afraid you may have to figure that out on your own. I tend to resew a lot and I don't write anything down as I go. (though I probably should.)

I will scan stuff sometime over the weekend I think.

    25. I don't know if you're still looking for different sized dolls, but I have a DoT if you're looking for one in the 64cm (approx 25 inches) range?

Either way, you rock for doing this :D

And I hope you feel better soon!

    26. All sorts of patterns are excellent! I modify patterns a lot, because I like taking something as a base, and making dozens of different things from one basic structure, so lots of patterns - even ones that I need to play with - are amazing!

    27. Any measurements are great. the more info I have the more I can work with (not to mention I hope to get enough measurements so that that sticky post can be updated for everyone, it's very useful stuff to know and it makes me sad that interesting things are not current usually. )
And thank you XD I'm glad I rock, thank you XD I hope I feel better soon too *sighs* probably my fault for liking to sleep with the window open.*laughs* but now I have an excuse to be lazy and plead for soup. (though hopefully soup I don't have to cook cause I've so bad at cooking I burn WATER. *sighs and facepalms* though I CAN cook French toast. but that it pretty much it.)

alright, I'll dig through my files and see if I can get you some interesting things. I know I have a folder of my old patterns that I've been unhappy with but they had some interesting results. (I own a dressshop, we are offline right now -taxes were evil and took all my time- but after Fanime May 23-26 we are going to be back online I think. T.T unfortunately it means I still have 100 or so collars and bonnets to make before then and I need to have at least four dresses for examples in the shop XD so most likely we will be a month late on putting stuff online. I still need to remake the site)

    28. DoT measurments:

      HEIGHT: 64 cm - 25.2 inches
      NECK: 9.5 cm - 3.7 inches
      SHOULDER WIDTH: 13.5 cm - 5.3 inches
      ARM LENGTH: 19 cm - 7.5 inches
      CHEST: 24 cm - 9.4 inches
NECK TO WAIST: 13 cm - 5.1 inches (length of his back)
      WAIST: 20 cm - 7.9 inches
      HIP GIRTH: 26 cm - 10.2 inches
HIP TO KNEE: 17.5 cm - 6.9 inches
      KNEE TO ANKLE: 19 cm - 7.5

Mmm. Soup. I love soup. Although I HAVE been craving french toast lately, it's the oddest thing. I haven't had it for years. Still, soup is invariably better when you're sick and when you're sick, other people should be cooking it for you! ;)

    29. aww id love patterns, i love to sew (not much at the moment since need to change the needle on my machine lol) and i get an extra body to sew for now (once my friend gets her 70cm guy in lol)

    30. I'm sorry to say that I've had to put the project on a hold.
