Winter break BJD project - Sizzrahtac the scarecrow girl(Updated Pics! 12/20)

Dec 13, 2007

    1. I've seen a good many awesome homemade BJDs on this gallery, but even before I went browsing through all of them like the inspiration-driven lurker that I am, I knew I wanted to make my own. I knew I'd never find a BJD that would fit a certain girl character I've drawn (unless I did some good mods to her). So, since I had time off for Winter break, I threw myself into this and have been working at it since at least the first week of December.

I did a good bit of research on types of clay (needed one I was familiar with) and methods for creating a BJD. This forum has been so great to provide me with those resources, so thanks everyone who's contributed.

Without further ado, this is the beginning of Sizzrahtac, along with some links to the character design I'm going from and a link to the process in full on Photobucket.

Character design can be found at: http://toxicd.deviantart.com/art/She-creeps-like-fog-24044864

      further pics are here.

      My baby's so photogenic!

I'll keep the pics coming as much as I can as I continue this project.

Other info: Her eyes are 14mm black chalcedony beads. I might buy a bigger size later, but they seem to fit alright.

    2. Yaaaay! Finally approved!

    3. Oh~ Looking good! can't wait to see more progress!

    4. Oooh very unique character :D can't wait to see how this turns out ^^

    5. It's a really good start:) , just some tips that might help you.
When you create a mouth the under lip is more full but when you look at it in profile the upper lip sticks out more, otherwise you get the effect what young children do when they don't get their way, i dont know the right english word i think it is "pout" i think.
When i look at the bust you have made i see the muscles that run from the neck to the point of your shoulder are almost in a horizontal line, you would only see this rl if you would raise your shoulders(like when you make the gesture "i dont know")When they are in normal position they are more sloping, i see that in the drawing you made but not in your sculpt.
also i would suggest to lower the placing of the breasts slightly.
I guess you will work on the nose or that it is a choise that it is the way it is.
I don't mean this in a bad way ,it is just to help you.
      Good luck with your sculpting:thumbup

    6. I like the eyes... they are different:)

    7. Shiza: Thanks for the tips. I have changed her bust, since it wasn't done in the images I posted. There are ribs below the breasts now and the breasts are smaller and look less strangely placed. I'll work on her shoulders. I see what you mean.

As for the mouth, it wasn't done and I was going for a pout, yes. Sizz doesn't have full lips. She also has stitched lips and I will post pics soon of her finished face. Heheh. Yes, I am not giving her a nose. It's how she's made.

    8. I love the concept! Definitely subscribing

    9. I've added her stitches, her ears and begun sculpting her second torso piece - also added one arm that is a bit too skinny right now. Here tis!

By the way, the clay I'm using is Prosculpt. Her head was done in Fairy Light (which isn't very pliable) and the body is done in Caucasian. I find the Caucasian seems to mold better and doesn't seem as dry to work with.

    10. yay! good detail! you're doing really good! every time I try to make a doll it comes out looking very... meh......... so i'm really jealous! ^_^

    11. shes so adorable! i love the stitching

    12. i would love to buy her. what skin color would she be?

    13. She's brilliant! I love her face. The details are great and overall her facial shape is so well sculpted - I love her chin, jawline and cheekbones. And her eye shape ;)
You might want to add a little more to the top of her head though, that is if her proportions are to be realistic and she'll be wearing a wig.
Also the breasts seem a bit far apart, which gives the torso a bit of a "stretched" look.
I hope you get to cast her some day. She's beautiful and original.

    14. just a tip, u may want to make the breast more like a ball that u place onto the body instead of mounds. but if u like it that way all the power to u. I LOVE THE HEAD
so origonal i cannot wait till its done!!

    15. YAY, SCARECROWS!

      **Coughs**

Anyhow, nice job thus far! <3 Interesting effect with the face. I've entertained the idea of having a little Scarecrow myself, but they would more likely be a modded tiny than my own sculpt. You've gone all out, on the other hand. XD <3

      Neat work!

    16. I love what you're doing with her! I don't suppose her head is going to be resin-cast, and available for purchase?

    17. Cool, I had an idea like that with my Stitchfacegirl! Awesome work! I love the face! :aheartbea

    18. She's comming out really nice, I hope you keep updating with more pictures. :)

    19. It's a great concept. The arm looks really small compared to the body though. It's cool that you can do that on you winter break. It shows the amount that can be accomplished with no school. I'm eager to see more and hopefully the entire body.

    20. Wow! She is so unique!!! Very intresting! Can't wait to see her finished and painted!

    21. oh gosh. She look so so so marvelous. Is the first time i'm looking at a bjd in the making and I'm so impressed by it.

    22. oh my gosh. This is the first doll-in-making process I'm seeing. And it's the most most amazing one! The details, the mouth, the stitches. Seriously an eyeopener! gosh. i hope i can see the completed product when you are done.
