Props Wings out of Metal

Aug 14, 2014

    1. At first I wanted to compete with these wings in The Great Triathlon Challenge, but I didn't have enough time :pout: Unfortunately my drilling machine is broken as well, so I can't do the attachement for one of my boys. There will be a magnetic coin in the middle of the wings and a magnet on my doll. May you have other ideas how to attach the wings or what I can do better next time.

I didn't used glue. Every piece is screwed on and can be removed or modified.

      This are my materials:

    2. Wow those are absolutely gorgeous. I love the design and you obviously worked really hard on them!

    3. It is a beautiful design and well made.
It looks like it might weight too much for magnets. If so, I'd make a leather harness that is in keeping with your design. Maybe have something that looks like a controller on a chest piece connected to the harness?

    4. I'd LOVE a pair of these...

    5. Oh wow.. that looks so awesome! How did you cut the metal? Because it looks so precise…

    6. Those are stunning an you have som serious talent being able to make them out of those materials!!! I'm sorry you ran out of time for the competition :(

    7. Love to see these on the doll you made them for!

    8. Omygod this idea is awesome. Really have nothing much to say but just if you added more details, it would definitely be much more eye capturing

    9. They are brilliant and will great on the doll. Please post photos when the doll is finished.

    10. I would suggest using two magnets, placed at least one cm away from one another, to help stop the wings from spinning. Other than that, if you're using neodymium magnets and they're large enough, I see no reason this wouldn't work. Are you going to polish the wings, or give them a brushed finish, or leave the brass and copper sheet as-is? I think a mix of brushed and polished finishing would give some really nice contrast.

    11. Being a super fan of steampunk fashion/look I'm soooo loving the design! And oh my god, knowing that everything is just screwed on... wow! It makes the piece more special I think! I hope we can see soon these beautiful wings on a doll! :D Can't wait!

    12. Props for getting the metal cut out so nicely and the wings being so perfect, the design is clean and very beautiful!:dance

    13. :o They are gorgeous!!!! You are amazing! *_*

    14. Those are stunning! They have a very nice steam punk look uvu.

    15. They are absolutely beautiful!!~ :D

    16. Amazing work. Is it heavy? I would think the metal would be too heavy for just magnets to keep it in place. I'd love to see it on a doll too.

    17. These are so beautiful! Simple, yet elegant :D I love that everything is held together using screws, it makes it look very professional.

    18. These are beautiful! I love how you used screws so you can change things if you want to. Steampunk is always a good look as well.

    19. It reminded me of a Rolex watch. It is amazing work!

    20. Woah! It looks really, really well done, in ever detail. I like the Steam Punk ethetics, I am positive your doll will look amazing!

    21. Ohh they are so beautiful they remind me of a book series I read called The Clockwork Angel.

    22. The craftsmanship on these is just awe-inspiring! I mean, not only is the design absolutely fantastic, but these look like they're really well made. I'm so jealous of your skill!

    23. I love this! These wings just look so sturdy and well made! Your craftsmanship certainly shows!
I can't wait to see these on a doll. c:

    24. The design is so beautiful! <3 I would love to see the wings later on the doll. <3

    25. I second SteamWitch's suggestion. A leather harness might provide better support, depending on how heavy the wings are. One magnet would just cause the wings to unsettle easily.

    26. Such nice steam punk wings~! Amazing skills you got there, I want a pair of these wings for my dolly too~! > w<

    27. I love steampunk and think those are really beautiful. Some leather straps to hold them on would be cool.

    28. Wow.. that's an amazing design.. I love how you can dismantle it and put it together however you want!

    29. Absolutely cool. it's stunning work.

    30. Amazing!! I've seen wings like that on a human once and she had burned (?) dark spots on places where you'd normally add shadow and that looked really awesome. It already looks awesome like this too! ^^

    31. wow so amazing! It looks so clean and professional well done!

    32. I just adore steampunk so naturally I find your wings to be stunning :aheartbea

    33. That looks super professional! Clean stable lines, balanced composition, I like the idea of a brushed finish to give it more contrast and texture. It's such a beautiful piece of work! Can't wait to see pictures of it on the doll!

    34. Oh my gosh! You're all so sweet! :love I thought there won't be so much comments for my wings so I don't checked this thread for a while... What a huge fault!

I promise to make some real nice pictures with a doll wearing these wings soon! And I will post a link to the gallery here.
Since the wings are a little bit too small for my MSDs I have to sew a nice steamy outfit for my Leeke B girl before I can make photos.

Nice news: There are two new wings in the making! I hope you will like them too :whee:

    35. These wings are INCREDIBLE! & so creative!!!! I think they're perfect!!!! :love

    36. So beautiful!

    37. Wow those are so cool!! You did a fantastic job!

    38. I totally agree, that would look awesome for anyone making their dolls into characters from the book! Amazing so clean looking

    39. As everyone has said, these are just lovely. You did a very neat job and I really like the simplicity of their design. They remind me very much of the manga Clover. ^__^

    40. Amazing work! This is so cool and beautifu!!!

    41. Wow!!! These are so unique and well-made!! Wonderful job :)

    42. First of all awesome job. These wings are stunning and I really like how all the gears look like they have a function and could actually help the wings move. Sometimes when people make steampunk art they get a bit carried away with all the gears and a lot of pieces look stationary and are just sitting there without a function.

If you are still looking for ways to attached them to the dolls. you could consider making a harness for them. It could easily slip on and off the doll without altering the doll's body. It would also match the steampunk theme you're working with.

    43. I do love how you went more for function also, but i believe that a couple mor gears together and maybe a small pully for the wings would make it a touch more realistic in how it would open and close. other then that it is a very nice set of wings.

    44. Wow O_O It's so... so... magnificent! Amazing job:love

    45. Those look great! I wonder how they will attatch to the dolls?? Or maybe to the outfit??

    46. Wow - really lovely and unique! Are you making a steampunk character?

    47. These remind me of the manga Clover by Clamp!!
      Awesome concept!

    48. The wings look amazing. I love anything steampunk. I hope you post pictures of your doll wearing the wings when you are done.

    49. Metallic simple sense is good, if the number of metal feathers can more may look better?

    50. That is really beautiful, the certain look that hand-made products have really amazes me. Those are nothing like the mass-produced, shabby and seam lined replicas that cost three times as much. I wonder what your skills could do on a little bigger and a super detailed project... ;)

    51. You should definitely open up commissions, a steampunk style with durability and legit metal? people would love that! Magnets would work I think, but there are strong and weak ones, so get the strong! Do they bend/turn/idk what to call it, move? If not, that would be a neat idea for another model!

    52. These are really nice! Hope to see more of what you make

    53. These wings are fantastic. I would make a brown-leather harness to attach them to my doll because he would be an inventor rather than have them permanently attached. But no matter how your doll wears them, they are beautiful!

    54. Just like everyone else said before, these are beautiful!

    55. Wow. They are absolutely gorgeous. Well done. And looking forward for your new piece!!

    56. Wow just wow!!!

    57. Wow! Very impressive!

    58. Very well done and impressive! I really adore the attention to detail. These are really impressive!

    59. Woah, they're absolutely beautiful! You had such a great and creative idea, I'm in awe!

    60. they look great ! awesome job :) I want to see more
