Paul Andrew Cortez is a brooding young man on the verge of Eighteen.

BackgroundThe Earls of Ravenwood and the Dukes of Claymore were always allies, so their sons usuallly become good friends and it was not an unusal sight to catch the children playing togheter in the garden of Claymore Castle or Ravenwood Manor.
especially so the younger and freer boys: Francis, Gabriel (cecil scar face), and Martin (cecil Ocean of deep black), whose mothers always said must be attached at the hip cause they were inseparable.
those three boys grew up together and had a lot of fun making merriment and playing jokes to siblings and family members.
Like all the Claymore the twins felt the pull of the sea and managed to convince their father to let them go to the Royal Navy Academy (loving the sea himself the duke gave them the chance he felt compelled to deny to his first born); obviously Francis wanted to and being the second son he could follow his best friends.
At the academy without really thinking about it, the three crossed the bridge between friendship and passion and they become lovers.
Impressed with the fame of their older brother (Claymore first born run away from home to become a mariner too) the twins wanted to leave the Royal Navy and taking sea imediately to reach their brother's vessel: the Lady Mathilda.
Francis was against that idea, deeming it to hazardous, irresponsible and dishonorable. he tried to stop them menacing to tell everything to their father. so they fought harshly till Gabriel and Martin resigned and left in the middle of the night without saying a word to Francis.
Francis heart broke upon finding out, and he felt so betrayed he swore he was going to become the greatest admiral ever and capture them.
he worked hard and he become one of the younger Royal Navy commander ever; gaining the fame of the relentless pirate hunter and getting from the Caribbean the nickname of "L'Impitoyable".
Finally the Claymore twins and Francis Williams crossed paths again and they obviously got into a naval fight.
when face to face, while Gabriel and Martin tried to avoid the battle with their old friend and lover, Francis chased them and during a sword duel he injured Gabriel actually blinding his right eye.
the shock of having truly hurt the one he still loved made him cower, he took his corvette and flight.
Realizing he was again defenceless against them and the feelings they always brought up in him, he felt like he failed everything. he went back to England, left the Royal Navy and proceded to seclude himself in his birth home at the greatest dismay of his sister Clara.
but fate striked again when his father and older brother died in an accident making him the next Earl of Ravenwood.
he decided to try and forget all of his past life and become the perfect debauched aristocrat, spending his life partying, playing cards at White's, and changing lovers all the time, caring only for his sister and the family fortune.

Personality: Easily mistaken for surly, though in reality is that he just doesn't like being bothered. Can be found in a dark bar reading nautical books and drinking wine, as he has a deep interest in his family history; an ancestor of his is known for owning a small fleet of ships, and there are rumors of a little bit of piracy here and there that he has yet to confirm. His personal fun aspiration (if he hasn't acquired it already) is to own his own sailing ship, though he hopes it's of a size he could, in theory, navigate himself

I am mildly concerned about his apparently sincere attachment to Lily's collection of zombie literature and his love for unorthodox sciences.
