Wig styling?

There's a youtube video I watched for styling wigs that helped me. The video is a two-parter. It was super helpful to me in understanding what needs to be done to get a wig to not look poofy. Basically, if the thickness of the wig is contributing to the width and poofiness, you'll need to thin out the wig little by little to get it to fall right. If the wig itself isn't sitting right, (like it's pulling away from the head) you might need to modify the wig and shape it to the head better. You can do this by essentially putting a pleat where it's lifting away from the head to get the wig to lay flat. That bit is not in the video I linked, but there should be tutorials on it.
