Wig Staining: Prevention, Cleanup and Feedback on Various Mfrs.

Jan 3, 2005

    1. I noticed that a well-known laundry or stain-fighting brand has some sort of color 'magnet' that soaks up bleeding in the wash. I saw it a few weeks ago, so I don't remember what it was called

    2. Hello~

Ok so I'm sorry if this is in the wrong place...I wasn't really sure where else to post this :sweat

So I just bought this wig at the DDE and the leather inside left blue stains on my XI's head after just TRYING it on!!! :doh I took it off with a magic eraser.... Its one of the "Persian" black wigs by Shaggies. Its made of wool and the inside is like a hide. So...I was wondering if I could soak it to get the extra dye out...or if that would ruin the inside of the wig, making the hide all hard and crunchy. D: Similar things have happened to me with rabbit skins.

      Thanks for your time!!! :aheartbea

    3. Everything you want to know is in the Customizing index waiting for you: http://www.denofangels.com/forums/showthread.php?173416-Customizing-Thread-Index Just scroll down to Wig Staining or Stain Removal.
      Cheers!
Also, rabbit hides sold for craft are often untanned or veg- tanned. A hide made into a wig goes through a much more vigorous tanning process, and you should be safe soaking the hide in a white vinegar solution to help "fix" the dye, rinse it well, and then hang it up to dry like a piece of very delicate clothing. It'll only be a little stiff when it dries and you just work it out with your fingers. Just don't agitate the hair while it's wet, as this can make it felt. (Stick to itself)

    4. Thanks so much!!!! I just didn't want to ruin the wig :)

    5. My MSD girl has a dark brown wig which she always wears, and when I took it off a while ago, I noticed some blue-ish, brown-ish stains on her head (so I quickly put her into a blonde wig) and the stains are kind of near her face. Are there any ways I can remove the stains with out damaging her face-up? Also, is there a way to prevent stains from even happening? I heard that you should wash clothes to prevent it, but what about wigs?

    6. You can buy silicone wig caps now to prevent staining to the doll.
Stains are difficult to deal with - it depends how deep it goes in to the resin.
You should try gently removing it with a magic eraser sponge first but if that doesn't work you may be forced to do some careful sanding.

    7. Use some water and dish soap first, my guy had black stains all over his face a while ago when I pulled his black shirt over his face :B And water and dish soap removed them! If that didnt work, try the method above, but be gentle with the magic eraser! You dont wanna erase her face-up XD

As for wigs, I wash mine all the time, fiber, fur, mohair, I wash 'em all!

    8. I second the wig cap. Most places I read on highly recommended them.

    9. alright, thank you all! ^^ The stains are pretty faint, so hopefully they will come off nicely :)

    10. Thank you Rosslyn,
This was a great help - since I most likely will need it for removing clothing Stain from my Volks DD SABER^_^

    11. My doll seems to have a black line around her head. I think it is from the wig cap maybe? I used volks magic eraser but so far nothing has changed it. What should I do? Would it be okay if I soak the head in water and then try to use the magic eraser?
Can a wig stain a doll?
How can i keep this from staining again?
      :doh
Sorry if this has been posted already.

    12. Yes, a wig can stain a doll, especially if the wig is dark! I would suggest magic eraser, but since you said that didn't work, I don't know what else to suggest. Not sure about soaking the head in water, it might affect the face up. :o

You can prevent staining by investing in a silicone wig cap, or lining the inside of the wig with masking tape. :D

    13. Use some dish soap and water! It did the trick for me when my boy had black stains ALL OVER his face >.> And yes, some black/dark-colored wigs can stain dolls. Even dark clothing. You can wash them though with vinegar/regular water to get the excess dyes out.

    14. Thank you both!

    15. i had a similar problem with my girl, what i did is used a toothbrush (i bought just for doll cleaning!) with some dish soap and scrubbed it a good while, it's mostly gone and i'll touch it up with magic erasers later.
to prevent further damage i took a light colored ribbon and tied it around her head where i noticed staining (so mostly over the ears)

    16. I was wondering...can you also soak a wig in a vinegar/water solution to get excess dye out? Or will the vinegar damage the wig?

    17. *Bump* Still wanting to know about vinegar.

    18. Just curious about golden blonde color. I got some Leeke wigs in Goldenrod. I think the wig caps are like normal skin color. Anyone ever heard of that color staining? I have not put them on my doll yet, because I am waiting for her to be shipped out. Also I plan to get a Luts wig in a gold color... I am alittle worried, but am thinking about making a homemade thing to put under for protection anyway.
