Wig making - tutorials and books

Sep 7, 2010

    1. Hi!
Do you know any serious tutorials or books about wig making? I'm searching amazon for books and still nothing! Where can I learn to do this? Maybe human wig-making?
      thanks!!

    2. Much of the information available for BJDs specifically is only available on the internet (if at all) and often in Korean or Japanese. For more generic doll making stuff books are often an option, and human type stuff you will definitely find in books. However, the methods for making a wefted BJD wig are not truly so complex that you need a whole book for it. By looking at manufactured wigs you get a pretty good idea of how they are put together.

Here is a link for making wig wefts that you can sew onto a headcap as is often done for BJD size wigs: http://www.nonidolls.com/weft.html

and here is a link that explains how wigs for humans are knotted: http://www.makeup-fx.com/Perukeng.html

You may wish to combine both methods or take a little from column A and a little from column B.

You can buy loose hair, ready-made wefts and wig caps from http://pupapa.com/shop/

You can also use tibetan mohair on-the-skin by making a saranwrap-and-tape pattern of your dolls head, cutting it from the leather and sewing it into a headcap where the hair is already attached. Same thing can be done with fake fur which is usually attached to knitted backing.
