I hope I'm posting this in the right spot. I've come back to the land of BJDs after 15 years and a lot of things have changed and I'm kind of lost when it comes to where to buy nice wigs. I LOVE all of these beautiful anime looking ones I see on etsy, but I don't know who is a real artist and who is just an ali express drop shipper that has a nice photo then you are sent trash. Back in the day I'd get monique/JPopDolls wigs, but I found out last week that Grace passed away five years ago (rest in peace, you glorious force of nature) so not sure what's going on these days. So I was wondering what wig makers or brands you all like the most. I have a Volks Mika MSD and I want to get her something cute and anime-like.
Well I love kakaplanet, they have decent quality for decent prices, and generally a lot of options, anime or otherwise. Almost half of my wigs are from them. KAKA PlANET_WIG_BJD,Legenddoll,bjd,BJD DOLL,bjd doll,Ball jointed doll,BJD accessories
Etsy has become quite useless as it's mostly Taobao resellers, Aliexpress is pretty much the same - I think Jusuns/Fjusuns is pretty much the only actual wigmaker you can find on Aliexpress these days - their wigs are quite nice and soft, a bit on the poofy side, though. For other nice wigs you see, I'd recommend saving the images of what you like and using image search on a Taobao proxy like Superbuy to find the original seller. I also just stumbled upon this TB store that has very very cute styles. For more easily accessible stores: MSire wigs are quite nice, they have many shorter styles, ACBJD and Legenddoll sell theirs. Hannasu makes cute stuff and also sells Leekeworld wigs now. Dollyplanet makes nice long and curly styles (also sold by ACBJD and Legenddoll) Formydoll has lots of options, and also anime-like styles like Miku pigtails Mandarake carries Himekazura wigs Luts, Migidoll and Switch make dolls but their wigs also seem very popular!
I would recommend taking a look at Dollce wigs. They used to have an international webshop, but that seems to be gone. But you could always browse their Japanese website with google translate turned on: WIG - Dollウィッグと洋服のお店---DOLLCE---ドルチェ And if you find one you like, you could have a shopping deputy order for you. (My preferred deputy service is Neokyo if you don’t already have one you use.)
You can find a lot of really cute anime wigs on Booth.pm! and sometimes YJA. Pengin Workshop also sells on Etsy. As for my personal favorites I like himekazura, pengin, some volks (but quality can vary by styles... look for owner pics) and chicabi's wigs. And I don't own one yet sadly but +1 for migidoll, the wigs are so pretty especially the preorder ones they do every couple of months.
Is Formydoll still around? I’m not convinced they are. I got really excited about one of their pre-order styles and bought it, but I don’t see anything on the website which postdates 2023. The PayPal transaction didn’t go through so I’m not out any money, but I’m bummed about the wig not being obtainable.
I've only had their wig second hand so I'm not sure... they do note PayPal address change on the site so maybe that had something to do with it?
I've also come back to the hobby after a very long time, welcome back! I am going to creep on your thread, since I'm still doing catch-up myself. Nine9 Style also carries the ForMyDoll wigs, I'd thought about buying some from their site but also was worried maybe it wasn't still active. Maybe buying through Nine9 would be better? They have Hannasu wigs as well. Nine9 makes a handful of their own wigs, too, the one I got of theirs is lovely quality, unique and cute. Though I'd note if you've been out of the hobby for a while, make sure you don't have big-headed dolls by modern standards (e.g., I've had some issues with dolls who wear a Volks 8-9 not being able to wear it in modern wigs). Leeke is still around, if you recall them, as well; but they've just been folded into Hannasu. I've not ordered direct from Hannasu, but I hear good things. Leeke still has the issue they used to with being less stretchy and having the wig cap show on light-colored wigs... but they're still fine. Not sure if they'll continue their faux mohair line, but it's comparable to the Jpopdolls ones, just in natural colors.
Ah cool! Good to know. I sent them an email today and one to Ninestyle too just to in case they could help me out.
I heard back from Formydoll in less than 24 hours! It seems they have been setting up a new factory and that’s why there has been a lack of updates to their website but they confirmed they are still making and selling doll wigs and asked me to give them the details of what I want and will see if it’s possible. I am definitely feeling more hopeful now. Update: Yes! They let me order the wig style they introduced as a preorder back in 2023!
