Why is this forum always so empty? I remember when it was a part of den of angels once and had loads of traffic. Why was it separated in the first place? Just curious :pout
This forum has a very different focus than DoA. This is more of a niche forum and as such it is not as dependent on a high post counts and fast moving discussions. But there is one thing you can do to help to keep it active, and that is to post regularly and contribute to discussions, offer critique and post your own projects.
Don't worry, this forum may be a little slow, but there's actually quite a few active doll artists posting their work or helping out. Working on dolls is time consuming, and sometimes it takes forever until there's something new to post. In my experience, if you ask a question or update your progress journal, there's always quick feedback.
Still does anybody know why this forum was separated from doa on the first place? I remember the time when every day there were at least 5 threads with many new posts. I m sure many people started making their own bjds because they saw this subforum. Something they would not consider without this part of the forum being there. Now as time goes by I feel as if less and less people are online here. Two times out of three I am the only person here when I happen to look.
Why not make a post in the Ask the Moderators-forum on DoA? They ought to know, if anyone. All we can do is guess. My guess is that sculpting dolls and collecting dolls are just two different hobbies, even if they are closely related. DoA is a huge forum and they need to keep things focused or they will be completely overrun. But again, I'm just guessing.
I wish I knew, it's honestly one of the things that bugs me about this forum, because otherwise it's perfect and I love it. People are nice and helpful, and it's a great place to post progress and ideas without feeling too insecure.
Another aspect of it might be that a doll during the sculpting process isn’t technically on topic for DoA as it is not yet cast in resin.
They said the sculpting subforum was getting too far from the focus of DoA, so that's why they have this sister forum. It has been quiet here though!
Personally I never would have gotten in on DOA when I needed it due to their membership criteria (I didn't know anyone on the forums or how to contact the doll community- I got into dolls as a hobby because I started making them, not because I already owned any). So for that reason alone, I'm grateful for the separation. Like many small creative forums, this forum should be viewed in a different perspective than how many of us are used to communication- asynchronicity of forums is a benefit, not a defect. It does encourage patience, but if you post and contribute it helps build the activity of the forum and eventually in most cases someone will get back to you within time, typically quite reasonable. Making dolls is often a slow process. And there are only so many of us. We are often restricted at many parts of the pipeline by cost, time, health, design issues, etc.
I haven't been here for a while as I wasn't working on my doll and was quite tired of her and all things connected. But now I log on a couple times a day A couple years back this forum was far more active. I think, artists that become successful often leave such forums and post in their own blogs. Besides, there are so many social media channels that you need to update with your progress to reach more potential buyers that another forum is just too much sometimes.
DoA is for everyone in a hobby and this resource, as far as I can see is made much more for artists of its kind
I suppose it's what oakbottom says... I find it difficult, because I'm very chatty, but at least there is a forum! I'll probably be checking every day or so, and even though it's been a wait, I think it's good that the people on here are mainly serious about what they're doing. Many large, active forums, seem to descend into cliques and bickering, which is the main reason I tend to stick to DoA and Nanowrimo.
hree, i check this place every day, because i also love to talk... and i want to talk about dolls and doll-making! but i still have yet to post on DoA, as i don't have a purchased BJD yet. but it is very nice to come here and share what little i know about the making part. :X
