I thought it might be both interesting and useful to compile a list that shows which companies are being used by which independent artists to manufacture their bjds. It could be helpful to people who might be considering using a professional casting company and want to compare the final products (colour, resin type, additional services etc.) as well as other considerations such as turnaround time and feedback. Please let me know if you spot any mistakes or know of any other examples that can be added to the list! Who's cast by who? Weiju: Anasthasia's Workshop (Anasthasia) Batchix (SarahM) BJTales CircusKane Daisy Dayes FreakStyle (silk) Jphobia Kaye Wiggs Noble Dolls (Asella) Victorian Winter (cheshirepanda) Whispering Grass (ira_scargeear) Woodolls Dollshe: Insomnia Doll aka Little Rebel Irrealdoll Merry Doll Round NimphaeryTales Twigling Fantasy Doll: Arabidopsis Bobobie: Sleeping Elf
Thanks for this- it's something I've been wondering myself. I'm still unsure who Lillycat or Twigling uses...
Ah, Twigling! She uses Dollshe: http://www.twigling.com/shop/. Added to the list. Lillycat, I'm not sure about either. Or Dust of Dolls.
Yes, you're right - she does still cast some of her own dolls, but not all, I think... She says: I have a feeling it's Weiju, just because I've read that they use 'Environmental Resin' which Lillycat was very enthusiastic about.
yea...also her post on facebook made me eat my own words XD "Ellana is taking her silicone bath ^^, if everything goes well, I will be able to cast the first resin head tomorrow and to send the prototype to my manufacturer soon." and if its Weiju I think Dust of Dolls does the same thing? Blurb from their site: "The resin used to make the prints being particularly allergenic Dust of Dolls turned to the services of an Asian subcontractor who is responsible for the reproduction part. This association allows among others to produce small series, something that would not be possible otherwise." Except the small series part...I don't know how small their runs are. I'm not being too stalkerish am I? XD
I just wanted to add that my next doll, Drazen, is being produced by Dollshe. I love the environmental resin Weiju uses, and they were a pleasure to deal with, but a minimum batch of 50 is a bit too much for me right now. Armeleia (Seed Dolls Inkling among others) does her own casting, I believe, as it says on her website these dolls are made to order. The first batch was done by a professional caster, but I'm not sure anymore which company it was.
